    Hair Loss Question

You didn't make up a word, that's a real word but Versed doesn't do that. When someone is going to have surgery often times the way drugs are given is Versed is first. That puts you to sleep, it's a benzo or in the Valium family. It works hard and fast, but not long. It zonks you out. Then you are given a paralytic so that you can be intubated (assuming intubation is necessary, many docs are using a special face mask that doesn't require a tube going down to your lungs such as my doc for banding procedures), then gas to keep you asleep.

    Newbie--Surgery August 2nd

thanks for the advice, I will definitely throw out the fast food. Surgery is 9 days away omg. The advice and stories told on here helps so much. I will be documenting every bit if my journey. I'm not looking forward to the gas pain, that's the only thing I am worried about, ugh. But this will be a new me, As Frust8 has said, it will be a rebirth in a sense. I'm ready to not get winded walking up my stairs, or walking in a grocery store. I stopped going to the mall because it entails so much walking. I used to enjoy running, but I now even dread walking. This is the tool that I need to help. What issues have you guys developed because of your weight or any connection with weight gain? -I have PCOS -insulin resistance - infertility -anxiety -depression - I've developed a lot of skin allergies - moodiness - chronic back pain - plantar facisitis, I work in a hospital so I'm always on the move and on my feet. This irritates my tendons even more plus all the weight gained. - and all i wear is sweat pants and t shirts. It's the only thing that fits me comfortably. I went dress shopping for an event and I picked 3 dresses to try on, they were 2X and 3X. My husband waited while I tried them on I tried the first one, I couldn't fit my arms through at all, second dress. I could barely pull down past my neck, the third dress I didn't attempt to try on. So I walked out that dressing room feeling defeated and disgusting because I used to be in a 8/10. As I walked out my husband asked what was wrong, they didnt fot or you dont like them? I told him and as we are walking to check out, I began crying, no stop. Defeated, I need this. I'm not myself, I want to enjoy life again.
  3. I have had the infortunate luck of food stuck and I can tell you now I know exactly what to do when the pain is unbearable. I drink pepsi or another carbonated drink lean over the bowl and it comes right out. I am not vomiting as it is not coming from the belly it is only unlodging the food that as an idiot I have not chewed properly...waited too long to eat and I eat too fast or plain try an eat the wrong food. I cannot do bread at all...and if it is something new it is anyone's guess if goes down.....
  4. Zen, I had my surgery on the 26th too. The first two days were uncomfortable, but I did lots of walking. Today, I felt 100% better. Even had a Slim Fast shake, tomato Soup, and a Premeir Protein shake and still no gas or bloating. I think keeping moving really helps. I had one little gas bubble today when I swallowed some air with a gulp (old habits) and I just walked it off in about 10 mins. I know everyone is different, but I bet you'll start feeling better real soon. Clif

    Just beginning. . .

Congratulations on your weight loss so far - that's great! I've only been sleeved for 10 days. For me it's not an issue of putting myself first or not - it's that I HATE exercise. I know I have to change this fast if I want to get healthy. I'm open to suggestions as well!
  6. I have no regrets at all. I am NOT a fast loser, I am coming up on my 6 month anniversary and I have averaged 6 lbs a month. Right now I am looking at 35 lbs of FAT gone. I dont mind it coming off slowly as long as it comes off. It really does work, I love my band!

    Awful PB experience

Update: I went back to the doctor today and I am doing much better. He wants me to have shakes for breakfast and lunch every day and mushies for dinner for as long as I can handle it. He things that I just ate too much too fast at breakfast and that I really need to learn how to eat slowly (I think I learned!!) But honestly, I think my fill is very tight but I did not say that to him. Maybe I'll loose faster.
  8. I had the lapband in 2008 and just had it removed on 2/4 and had the sleeve done at the same time. From all the posts I've been reading, those that have had the "revision" surgery are not losing as fast as those that are having the sleeve. But I also had an easier time adjusting because I had been through it before with the band

2 Months out and 2 Fills

Aimee.. I am 5 7 1/2 . I had no complications. My surgery went really well I had it on a tuesday and went back to work on friday.. Call me crazy everyone else did lol... Did you have any complications? The only time I have pain in my port site is when I had my first fill my doc had a hard time finding my port ( probally to much fat) and stuck me with the needle about 50 times and a 45 mins later he finally found it he did say if he couldnt locate it he would have to do it under floro.. I hurt for a couple of days. From what I understand this is not usual only because a girl that I became friends with who had surgery the same day as me our doc only stuck her once and she was out in 5 mins... So it is not the same for everyone.... Sammee...... Carnation is like chocolate milk and I wouldnt say it is thick thick. This morning when I was drinking my carnation it took me 45 min for 8 oz how much slower can I go I am surprised the milk didnt sour on me lol... Clear Fluid goes down fine.. I didnt have any lunch or dinner because I was full I just hope tommorow this goes away if not I will call the doctor and schedule an unfill Melody.. my doc did not tell me clear liquids he just same liquids I did email him and ask him if I should just be doing clear and he said absolutly no he wanted me to have the carnation because it has the protien that I need he did tell me to try slim fast but that is way to thick yuck.. but every doctor has different requirements.. Now tommorow he has me doing mushies for 1 day and then i move to solids again.... What is your docs requirment (stages) for fills how long on mushies and when can you move to solids? Angela.... My doctor does the first initial fill 6 weeks out but he only put .5 cc in and the standard is 1.5 for the 4cc band that I have but the reason why he only puts that amout in is because he said some people only need 1 fill others need more. I met a girl at the meeting that was onle of his first patients 2 years ago and she has only 1cc in her band mind you it is a 10cc band and she has lost 175 pounds.. she was a size 32 tight and close to 400 pounds now she weighs 210 and wears a size 16 and she looks wonderful she is our inspiration at the meetings. Now my doc wants me to call him when i start to feel hungry in between meals and I can eat more than what I should that signals that it is time for another fill... He does not follow the every 6 week rule.. I am fortunate my doc has 1 day where he schedules all his fill patients and that is Tuesdays. I can walk in evcen if I have to. So i know that I amn always garenteed a fill when I need it. I started feeling hungry on thrusday of last week i called and he told me to come in aftrer work he stays open til 8... He is awesome. Also keeps in touch with his patients via email if not an emergency. We can vent to him and he will even come back with a reply whether a bad day eating or bad day in general... But thank you guys for responding to this and also the congrats on the weight lose it is greatly appreciated... Wish you luck on your journey Vickie
  10. PDX has it right. My own thoughts on the topic, based on info from my surgeon plus my own experience: As your stomach heals, you can't eat much at all - perfect opportunity to lose fast in the early days, so take advantage of it. After 6 months, you are pretty much healed up, so more food is easier to get down (read "easier to screw up"). Your metabolism "reset" that allowed you to lose very fast in the first 6 months may start to slow down. My dr says the "window" closes around 18 months and weight loss stops at that point. I definitely lose at half the rate post-honeymoon than I did early on. One pound a week instead of two (I'm a slow loser to start with). My surgeon's goal was 60% of my excess weight off by 6 months, which I was able to do, even with my slow loss rate. I still have my food issues, but at least I am very aware of them now and I feel like I have more control. I know now that I eat "bad" food for reasons that have nothing to do with hunger. While I am not always successful, I do have some go-to strategies post-6 months to help me get through those times, and they work most of the time. I have the sleeve to thank for that because it never would have worked for me before. The honeymoon was a great period to work through these issues and learn good habits. Bottom line: you can lose after 6 months, however, it will likely be much more difficult than the first 6 months when everything is new. The honeymoon is a wonderful time for loss and not to be wasted. Best of luck to you.

Help, the scale is not moving!

Are you eating Protein first? It's denser and will help fill you up! When I was eating badly I wouldn't feel any restriction either unless I ate too fast. When I ate like I should, then I could feel it. You can get through this! Just examine the rules and look to see if you are following them

    Back at it again.

The 6 months will go by so fast! I felt like I had just started when my surgical coordinator called and gave me a surgery date, I couldn't believe it.
  14. Hi everyone, i am new here and looking for support, friends, and answers . I was just sleeved for the 2nd time on wed. the 14th of Sept. I had my first sleeve done feb.2013. From the beginning I never really felt that much restriction. I went on to loose only about 40 lbs and my previous bulimia eating disorder flare up. When I would make my self throw up I noticed how much it was and thought......wow my stomach should be way smaller then that! So with the eating disorder I shyed away from my surgeon because I didn't want to hear the same old thing about the damage that can be done from an eating disorder and so on. So fast forward to march of this year, I have to little kids and felt that I can't keep up with them at this size. I decided to contact the clinic where I had surgery and they wanted to see me and help. I had a scan done of my stomach which showed there was too much fundus left to my stomach which is why I didn't have good results. So I went through the whole process again and just had surgery. I am excited and scared because I want it to work this time! I can tell a difference when I drink things already so this is a good sign Sent from my SM-N910R4 using the BariatricPal App

    I'm so excited!!!! Whoooweee!!!!

Congratulations! I have a somewhat unrelated question to ask however, brought on by the statement above. Am I on some sort of fast-track with my LapBand, or is six-plus months an unusually long time to go through the process? Reason I ask is that from beginning (first meeting with doctor) to end (surgery) my entire process will be under three months - and that long only because I've drawn it out a little. In reality I could've had my operation perhaps as early as Christmas-time had I not had outside factors intervene. I'm not necessarily wondering why it would take so long to get all the I's dotted and T's crossed, but merely if it's the norm.

    Sick on Protein Drinks

I would not encourage you to go on Water alone. carnation instant Breakfast isn't really considered a 'protein' drink, but it is a great way to get in some Vitamins and Protein. I mix it with High Protein milk and it's a treat to me, but I can see how it would get old fast if it's all the choice I had to drink. Can you add other things like Soups, etc? Keep your chin up!

    Sick on Protein Drinks

My doctor only wants us to drink prepared (liquid) Protein drinks. Specifically lists Carnation instant as a no no. I don't know if this is valid or not but he thinks the powdered drinks clog the band. Anyway, I don't like them either, but I have found Boost to be tolerable and Slim Fast low carb. You might want to try the liquid ones to see if they are richer in taste for you. I pour mine over ice and I can get them down. I wouldn't go with just Water.
  19. I called my group and my psych eval is supposed to be coming in today. So it will be sent to bcbs va today or tomorrow. I have heard that bcbs is fast at getting back to you so when I hear back I will start my testing and schedule my surgery date!!! I am so excited! I am no where near nervous, just ready for it

    Confused - Can you help?

Restriction will make you feel full longer. Eating too fast, not chewing well, or eating non-band friendly foods will make you uncomfortable or have pain. Most people don't feel any restriction after the first fill. I know I didn't and I was still really hungry after a couple of hours. So yes the band does make you eat slower and chew better and once you have restriction it will make you feel full longer. But until you get the proper amount of restriction, it is still will power that gets you from meal to meal.

    Tomorrow is THE day!!! Yikes!!!

Sending my best wishes on a fast and painfree recovery!
  22. I get stomach aches only if I eat too fast... (which for me is a learning tool) We really have to eat as if we have a baby spoon and chew slowly from there. I don't know your case in particular but this is what has happened to me.
  23. Garyb_58

    2 months update

tdriver, Keep up the good work. I know what you mean about the hurting when you eat to much or to fast, I just started making sure I quit eating before I get to that point. Good Luck on your journey.

    Does Lapband= nonfat/lowfat?

I eat what I want... but that doesn't include the things I used to crave. After being banded I have no desire for fast food, pizza, chips, etc. I'm diligent about getting to the gym and I feel like a "normal" person. If I want something, I have it - although I had to swear off the evil halloween candy except for one day a week. I swear, it's EVERYWHERE! As for my meals, I try to eat my protein first but damnit - sometimes I want the potato, or the salad. I'm eating the right foods but know that I still need to get my protein intake up. I'm kind of in a weird place right now because my band is too tight during this time of the month (sory, boys) so it's nearly impossible for me to eat what I normally do and am existing on soup. I think one of the biggest things for me has been the change in my lifestyle. I don't eat if I'm not hungry and just plain old don't care about food anymore.
  25. I was banded a week ago today. From what I had read etc people seemed to be going back to work in a few days. I went to work today. Took express bus with cushy seat. Sat at my desk took intermittent breaks to walk around. Almost fell asleep at work numerous times. Was in such discomfort all day. Came home and spent most of my evening trying to get comfy in bed to fall asleep but not being able to. I'm crying for no reason. I'm pasty white and my lips are chapped. Does everyone feel this awful 7 days after? I'm still sore. Ran out of pain meds days ago. My whole body feels tightened up or tense. I can't get comfy or relax. I just want some sleep! Help please Debbie
