Gurgling stomach normal?
Madam Reverie replied to Domika03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hehe, totally normal. It'll last for a few weeks yet. Mine only does it now when I've eaten something spicy and then it'll chug back into action. As if its saying 'Oi?! What's this?!' Embrace the gurgling. Its just your body getting used to things. As above, if you're not in pain/discomfort/have a fever, its all good. It was a great source of amusement for my partner and I in the early days. Now its stopped, I really kind of miss it! -
Three C-Sections??? Honey this will be like a scraped knee to you. LOL...I too had a c-section and last Nov. I was banded. Piece of cake. Good luck to you!

You'll do great - my surgery was 8 days ago...I only had someone with me for one night and have been alone all week. You'll be truly amazed that it takes up your entire day taking all your meds, vitamins and trying to get in all your protein. I still cannot get all the protein I'm supposed to have. I just still feel too full. I'm making sure to walk at least 5000 steps each day. By the way, I'm 73 so if I can do it I'm sure you will both do great. God Bless You! You've finally made the decision to make your own health 1st priority!

Dear grsha46, What I found is, the less I eat the carbs, slowly the cravings do lessen (but not completely go away) - even before the band, during the pre-op diet - I had a 3 month one. HOWEVER - it is so much easier to skip the sweets when you can only eat small amounts of food AND you are FULL. You do need to stick to the rules, eat Protein first, then veggies and fruit. By this time, you're usually too full for the sweets. When you're not hungry, the sweets loose their appeal. I watch calories - YES, it's like a diet. However, I've never been able to stick to a diet this long - and that's because the band helps me by making my stomach too small to eat large (or even 'normal") portions. Then I get too full, and don't get around to eating the sweets. Even with the band, you really need to be focused on eating healthy and avoiding fat and sugar laden foods. My instructions are to eat 60 - 80 grams of protein a day, and when you do this, it takes up a lot of room in the band. Sure, I still have a sweet treat once and while....but nothin' like before. Now we're talking one cookie maybe once every two weeks, and I fit it into my daily calorie intake. I also eat sugar free treats - they are really good - and don't have lots of carbs. Connecting back to God is a great thing! It helps us find a purpose in life, and supports us along the way. Go fo it! My family and I are Christians, and I pray for continued success and give thanks for the wonderful change that has happened in my life. I believe God sent certain events and people my way so that this would happen for me. I LOVED to eat! It took me a year to decide I was ready to put the food down and take this step to be banded. At first, I didn't think I could do it, and then I realized food wasn't that important -- I wanted to get rid of my diabetes meds (I have!) and my BP meds (I'm down to 1/2 a pill) and my cholesterol med (gone!) and be able to enjoy the activities I've missed out on all these years! And most of all, I want to be here in 20 years to be with my grandkids (If I ever have some). If I can do this, so can you!

I can't handle a chicken breast either unless I grind it up first in the food processor. I take the chicken and shred it, add a can of mushroom Soup and rotel tomatoes. Cook together on top of the stove add pepper to taste. Surgery date 9/4/2013 HW 269 RYN 238, this week 203

Mine does too, but I'm only three weeks post-op. Looks like you're pretty far progressed. Has yours always bothered you? Did you complain about it to your surgeon? I'm just really uncomfortable all the time and can't imagine living with this object sticking out like it does under my skin.

Something nagging me
TijuanaPlication replied to feedyoureye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I've not become intolerant to anything I wasn't already intolerant to. I did take it easy in the first weeks though. Yogurt is recommend because people tend to have less reaction to fermented products. FYI Greek yogurt has double the protein of standard yogurt (9g v 4.5g/100g). In your early days just yogurt or yogurt drink will be easier on you, as Greek yogurt is pretty heavy. Have you tried lactose free milk? I don't recall hearing of anyone becoming intolerant to eggs, so you should be OK with them Don't worry about protein too much at the beginning, just concentrate on getting your fluids. All the best for your op! -
Holy firetruck! Putting it nicely that is! It's a new year obviously and with new years comes changes. Last year we met our deductible and our prescription drugs were very cheap. So, it was time today to fill my prescription for oxycodone er 40mg. The cost for a 30 day supply - $538! Yes that is correct, 60 pills, 538 buckaroos! I checked and last year before deductible was met the most I paid was 140. So tell me, how the frig does the cost go up that high in 8 months? This doesn't include the fact I have to physically see the Dr every month before he will renew the prescription. That visit is blood work and urine sample each time. So in reality it's well over 1000 a month for just one med. I have 2 plates, 12 screws in my back, 2 spacers in my back, a fake knee which has been done twice in last 7 years and arthritis in every joint. My options are few! Stop taking pain meds, suffer horrible withdrawal and possibly kick the bucket to get off these meds to then be wracked with debilitating pain and not function in life, or....continue taking the meds, sell my house, go bankrupt, get a divorce and live in my van. I've never been so low in my life, this is the first time I've ever thought that my family would be better off without me. It makes me sick to think how much money is being made off people's misfortunes and poor health. I regret now having had wls because it will prolong this shit life I'm going to have to lead. I drive a piece of shit car by the way, and my clothes come from goodwill and hand me downs from friends. Pretty sure this will be the straw that breaks the camels back with my wife. She is tired of working 60 plus hours a week at a very good job only to come home to nothing. I'm so pissed and hurting, I'm already suffering withdrawal after 1 day of no meds. Really hating myself and life in general right now!

What was your doctors diet?
RedSox90 replied to K-ROD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor game me a semi-liquid diet to do two weeks before surgery. Basically, it boiled down to slim fast shakes for Breakfast and lunch and then a reasonable dinner. The women's plan restricted calorie intake to 1000, and the guys were given 1200. My doctor wanted his patients to lose weight before the surgery in part to demonstrate they were serious about the procedure, but mostly to shrink the fat around the liver. If your liver is too fatty, the surgery cannot be performed laparoscopically and they might have to cut you open. My doctor told us a story about a guy who lost something like 30 pounds before his surgery, but then splurged the weekend right before his surgery on two big lobsters. Even though he'd lost a lot of weight, the doctor still couldn't perform the procedure laparoscopically because of the fat he had recently consumed and its affect on his liver. So yeah...long answer I guess! I guess it all depends on your doctor. -
1 stone equals 14 pounds. 4 stones equals 56 pounds. Anyway, I wish I had my surgery sooner. I don't think there are many on this site that started with less than 75 pounds to lose but I think almost everyone here would agree they wish they had the surgery sooner as well. As for how long it will take to lose the weight, it's up to the individual. My doctor says the average is 1 to 2 pounds a week so if you stick to band rules you should be able to lose your weight within 6 to 12 months.

how much did you loose first week post-op?
RedSox90 replied to lindac80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got banded on Monday and I have lost about 9 pounds. The first few days after my surgery I didn't lose much - I think it was because of the liquids they pump you with in the hospital. I have heard a lot of people don't lose anything that first week, whether it is because of the liquids or the medicine or whatever. Even if you lose a little amount of weight the first week, it doesn't mean the band will be unsuccessful for you. -
The hard part is over. The first week post-op is no picnic, but now you are on your way to discovering the new you.

3rd day post op with the band....
sisterc replied to emily111's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All the same as you! I tried my best not to cough - the hospital given me a lapband pillow so I could hold my stomach when I was about to cough and it would help with the pain. I also used it to get up and down from bed or chair. Unfortunately, my bed is elevated so I would experience so much pain just to raise up and laydown. The hunger pains or gas pains stayed for about two weeks then it was okay. Hunger pains would come and go for me, but looking at food must made me made and wanted to eat everything in the house. BUT DIDN'T! It will pass you are doing really well - just get pass those first three weeks and its feels much better. Congrats! -
Cindy, I have been eating some regular food just very small portions, I was tired of liquids, if you are hungry you really should eat something solid. If you let yourself get too hungry you will either drink too many liquids or eat too much. I'm still loosing weight even with adding solid foods in, not much around 3 to 4 pounds a week which I feel is good. I expect the weight loss to take about 2 years but I would rather loose it slowly and not gain it back Good Luck, Cathy

I too have Cigna through my husband's job. They have changed their rules and are allowing the Lap Band procedure, but you will have to wait 6 months going through a series of appoints for psychological testing, diet and nutrition. My beginning weight was 233 pounds, and it was a long wait, but as of today I am 1 week post op! I was advised to start losing weight and I did just that but very slowly. My last appointment when I had my EKG I weighed 218. When I went in to surgery I was down to 212, and at my post op appointment on Wednesday I was down to 209.5. I've lost all in all 23.5 pounds since May. Now I can really start losing the weight without worrying I'm losing it too fast for the Insurance Company. I didn't have to fight with the Insurance Company the Clinic I went through (True Results in Hurst, Texas) did that for me. I wish you luck on your journey!

Hot drinks - yes. I tried Hot Cocoa and that made me fell "fuller." Remember, the first few weeks aren't about losing weight, they're about healing on the inside. So if you put on a pound or two, that's okay in the bigger picture. You do want to start some of those good habits, but it's hard to turn a boat on a dime. Give yourself a break - your body's gone through a bunch!! You'll be fine. Just don't make a habit of it.

I'm going in for my first fill next week. Since a week after I was banded on the 30th of May 2005 I have been progressively able to eat more and more. I have absolutely no restriction whatsoever. I do stop eating when I feel full but that is usally when my plate is empty. I also have no trouble eating bread, either. I know I should use limit myself but if I could do that in the first place I would never have had to be banded. Has anyone else had this happen to them, is this normal? Do I need to ask the doctor to put a certain amount of saline in my band? Does it hurt? After my fill am I allowed to eat right away? Can I eat right before? I've heard people say both, which is it? I'm really frustrated right now as I've paid all this money out of my own pocket because this was a preventative surgery for me (obesity runs in my family and I have the potential but didn't meet the criteria, yet). I want to believe this is going to work and I've seen it on numerous people but I'm just upset right now since it's been 5 weeks today and I've lost nothing. Help?

Hi there I'm a bit concerned as since having my 2nd fill (a week ago) I am getting some discomfort when I eat and saliva in my mouth. I did ask the guy for more restriction as after my first fill I felt very little so he told me he took 6cc out and put 8 in. Possibly this is my band working properly for me for the first time and it has come as a bit of a shock. I was on fluids for three days and then on to sloppy food but am not able to eat comfortably what I had after 1st fill (I just tried half a tuna sandwich and could only manage about two thirds of it) Is this normal and if it is will it gradually ease off, or could the band be too tight, I'm reluctant to complain as this is the first time I have felt real restriction. Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks Gaynor

It took less than a week for me to start sleeping on my side. It was limited and phased in.
