    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

My doctor skips pureee and goes straight to sift foods. I started soft foods day five after surgery and I’m quite fine. Now three weeks out

    Wedding dress size?

Thank you! I have an appointment with my surgeon next week so I think I'll ask for his best estimate on what my continued loss will look like. And you're right a conversation with the tailor would probably be my best bet on how to order. Hopefully between the two of them I can make a good decision.

I hate that I had this surgery

I am one week post op and I regret I got the surgery. I wish I would’ve listened to my husband.

One Year Out, Looking For Advice

Hi Tapioca! First, congratulations on your successful weightloss! 👏 It must feel incredible to be so close to your goal, but frustrating that you are struggling to get where you want to be. I'm only about 3 months out and far from goal, so I am sure some veterans will have better advice or experiences to share. Have you been able to speak to your nutritionist or doctor about your progress? I have seen suggestions to go back to tracking food, making sure to get protein & water anytime you get off track or hit stalls. Have you tried to go back to 3 meals & only 2 protein rich snacks? I can easily see how snacking can creep back into the routine after WLS. There are also "pouch reset diets" that may be helpful to "reset" and get those last 10 pounds off. I hope you get to where you want to be & find ways to get the snacking in check.🤗
  5. I have Molina and when I contacted my surgeons office to inquiry some information on the sleeve they had me pre-approved for surgery within 2 days and called to schedule my first appointment with the Dr. They have been great for me - I am super happy with them and so far they covered everything 100%. I did have $160 to the hospital for my endoscopy and a $40 copay for the endocrinologist. Also, if you do the sleep clinic at home not in a clinic they only cover SNAP at home sleep study company. They covered all of it but $47. Just FYI because it took me a week to get that figured out. All I had to do was see a endocrinologist, sleep study, endoscopy, see a nutritionist twice, and see the psychologist. Only 3 months for me from start to surgery I’m December . But my BMI is on the boarder of surgery however my type 2 diabetes is in the 300 even when I was 18 and 105 pounds so that’s why they are pushing it through so fast. I’ve had really high that drops real low where 911 comes. We can’t get it under control and it started with the focus vaccine in March - I had a severe reaction and was hospitalized from the vaccine. But I absolutely love Molina. Good luck with everything!!!
  6. Hey all! I’m 5 weeks post op and have been doing great, but I got my teeth cleaned yesterday and haven’t been feeling well since. Usually the dentist is an easy thing for me but this time my body aches and my digestive system is definitely unhappy. My pre-op info did not say anything about the dentist. Has anyone else had experiences like this? Did your info have a timeline for dental cleanings? Thanks, Breanne
  7. Hello! This is my first post on a weight loss surgery forum. Just seeking advice for some developed bad habits. I am officially one year post op from my gastric sleeve. I am 5'1 and 133 pounds now and 10 pounds away from my goal weight. At this point, I've found it very difficult to loose more weight. I'm looking for advice on how to get back in gear. I've found that I'm eating through the entire day, and I'm constantly thinking about food. I didn't even do that before surgery. After my operation, I wasn't getting enough calories, at max 300-500 a day, even 6 months out. I just couldn't eat a lot during meals and never felt hungry. My nutritionist advised to snack(healthily of course) throughout the day, and I was able to increase my daily calories to 900 on average. About 9 months post op, I was able to eat enough calories without having to snack as frequently. But I find that now I can't stop snacking throughout the day. And I've gone to eating sweets and chips etc. Even if I'm not hungry. All my brain can think about is "what can I eat next". Because I had to force myself to eat more throughout the day, I feel like now my body has gotten in the habit of constantly wanting food, even when I don't need it. And I've been really craving junk food and snack food. What are some tips to help myself from getting out of this habit? I'm maintaining my weight now, and not gaining. But I feel like I will eventually gain if I keep this up, I don't want it to derail all my hard work. I still do want to get to my goal weight. I do a boot camp 3-4 days a week for 7 months now. But I haven't lost any weight in over 3 months. I know it's a mindset thing, but I would appreciate any tips. :( Thanks!

    Week 10 Post Op

Like @catwoman7, I wasn’t hungry or interested in eating either. (Hunger didn’t really come back until into my 2nd year.) I realised I had to eat to meet my protein goals so I started to eat to routine. Over time it changed my relationship with food. I began looking at food as something my body needed to function not that I just wanted to eat for an emotional effect. I still have days or times I don’t feel hungry but I still eat 3 ‘meals’ a day (drop snacks) & focus on the protein component. Instead of a full meal I might graze on a high protein yoghurt or I’ll just have meat but no vegetables or salad. Would you say you are still averaging 60g of protein a day across a week? If I have a lower protein day I try to exceed my goal the next day. Do you still drink protein shakes? Maybe on non hungry days, sip on a protein shake instead of a meal. Not as filling, you can sip on it for ages & good protein. Or make your own smoothie with high protein yoghurt & protein powder. It may take a little trial & error to find what you can eat that’s not as repulsive on those days.

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

I think weight loss slowing down is inevitable. But also, it sounds like there are some hormonal issues at play. Did you meet with an gyn to discuss the crampy/bloated feeling? Also, metformin can reduce your appetite, so if you are taking less of it, you may be more hungry... and you say you CAN eat more, but are you hungry for more? Finally, you might do at least a few "spot checks" of your protein and water intake, to see if you're on track. Just do a tracker for a day or so for a few weeks.

    Wedding dress size?

That is a good question that I do not think many people if any can answer. The simple answer would be to estimate your current rate of weight loss and make a close guess as to what you expect to weigh at that point, knowing of course the rate of loss will slow as you get further out from surgery. Chances are you are going to need some alterations as you get closer because you cannot guess that precisely, so if anything, err on the side of caution. You can always make it smaller but pretty tough to add material if you do not lose as fast as you may expect. I know for one, I am changing sizes very rapidly. I am down 60 pounds and 3 pants sizes and 2 shirt sizes in the past 6 weeks. Even if I do not lose a lot of weight, the pants are getting looser because I am redistributing inches somehow. It is a tough call for you. Good luck

    October surgery friends??

I had the sleeve done on October 27 and was sent home the next day after making sure I didn't have any leaks in my stomach. My doctor sent in a pill for my gallbladder and for acid reflux among a bunch of other ones I don't need anymore. I just started the pureed diet today, had a scrambled egg for breakfast and just had some tyson blackened chicken chopped up in the food processor. My stomach handled everything great. When I check my weight yesterday I was down to 285. I was 305 the day of surgery. My surgeon also had to fix a hiatal hernia. One my one week check up, the nutritionist sent home a packet of the diet stages and when to start them. I can start soft foods on the 24th and she said I can have some turkey on Thanksgiving.

    Week 10 Post Op

I’m 5 weeks post op from lap band conversion to gastric bypass and my hunger has already returned. I wish it hadn’t. I can eat without problems. I haven’t had any dumping problems. Is it weird that I wished I had dumping so it might deter me from eating. I’m good with my portions but I feel like I get hungry too soon. I get my water, protein and vitamins like I’m supposed to. Just thought I’d have more problems with eating. Maybe because my stomach wasn’t a virgin stomach. I had the lap band for 11 years. Who knows.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Glad you all are feeling better! The first 1-2 days are usually the worst. For nausea my Dr. prescribed Zofran (Ondansetron) 3 times/day for a week (I think). It has worked well (except the one time I missed a dose )

    Pre-Op Today…

aww....that is a question i was going to ask my surgeon next week. I had my RNY the 1st. And Thanksgiving is my jam. Oh well, we have to follow orders, we did alot of work to get here. Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. I'm experiencing a situation at work today. This skirt fit comfortably snug during my pre-op diet period (last time I wore it). Today? Well...

Non-scale victory: My skirt is much looser.

I just began Week 5 today (sleeved 10/13). I have not lost anything on the scale since about 10 days out. That doesn't exactly bother me. I'll take a smaller body any day of the week! The rest can catch up when it's time.

  16. Hello surgery buddies! You have been on my mind this week. Even though mine was derailed, I have been thinking of you and wishing you easy recoveries. You got this! ❤️

    I’m nervous

Give yourself grace and patience also don't do too much to fast. I had surgery on the 29th and I'm struggling I had to go back to work after a week because I haven't been on my job long enough for FMLA *eye roll* and also I didn't have enough vacation time. Whatever time you can take off use it!

    Best broth?

Hello .... I am cleared but waiting on my surgery date. Just looking for recommendations for the good broths during the two week pre op diet. I have to do two weeks, full liquid (protein shakes and SF jello/popsicles only). I am seriously dreading this. Any recommendations for savory broths? TIA.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I had my surgery yesterday. I think you’ll be okay without care the next day. My pain isn’t too bad, but I feel like crap. I think the nausea comes on with the burps. Im not supposed to pick up anything over 10 lbs for 6 weeks so plan ahead for that.
  21. As I've searched online, many apparently it is common but no one had spoken on this subject for about 4-7 years. I can barely walk, i'm in excruciating pain, thank god it hit me in this stage of at least being some what healed. Has anyone else gone through this and what did they do relieve themselves of the pain. How was the protein intake. Anything !!?!??

    I’m nervous

Welcome BirdLady! My big tip: As tempting as it may be, don’t weigh yourself for at least 3 weeks after the surgery.

    Medications

We all feel pain differently & respond differently to the surgery. I was given opioids in hospital & a week’s supply to take home but discovered when I did get home I didn’t really need them. By day 4 I think I had one over the counter pain med & that was all. I didn’t have any gas pain nor really any pulled abdominal muscles. Don’t worry when my surgeon removed my gall two years later I had it all but again only took the opioids for the first 36/48hrs. Check with your prescribing doctors about your other meds to find out where they are absorbed. Some are absorbed in your tummy & some in your intestines. Depending upon your surgery if your’s do you may have to seek alternatives. (Some are absorbed in your kidneys or your liver too but those won’t be a worry for you after surgery.) Better to be sure. Hope all goes well with your surgery.
  24. Hi all, wondering if anyone else has a similar experience: some days I can eat no problem and other days the sight of food repulses me. Some days I hit 60 grams of protein other days I barely get to 40. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar?

    Post op day 2

Hello! I'm just curious. I had surgery this past Friday and was told I had to do clear liquids for 2 weeks. It seems as if some people don't have the same requirement. How soon were you told that you could start full liquids?
