    Breakfast

Hi there, after all those years of dieting and food theories, like breakfast being the most important meal of the day, etc., I have tossed that thinking aside for myself. I have only this rule: eat when I'm hungry and don't eat when I'm not hungry. I'm not hungry in the morning so I don't eat. I am drawn to Protein -- my body let's me know and I make healthy choices for dense protein like a piece of salmon, a small steak, etc. I like Beans and chili. There are times when i just have to have an egg and I know that's my body telling me just what it needs right then. I don't count protein grams and personally think Americans are way too obsessed with that. This is just me! I am older and grew up with a solid nutritional base (but got fat anyway!) and I don't eat junk food. shakes, for me, are sliders, so I avoid them but do have one as a treat once in a while. I use GENEPRO protein powder and if I'm feeling like I need an extra hit I mix some into my yogurt along with some mix-ins like chia seeds, a little gluten-free Cereal, a few chopped walnuts -- I do this to give me texture to chew. Otherwise the yogurt woukd also just be a slider. The chewing is what gives me the signal for satiety, which is how the band works. Good luck with all! It sounds like you are doing well and finding your way. Isn't it great to be getting in sync with our bodies again? For so long I felt mine had betrayed me or the other way round. It's good to be whole again.

    5 weeks out poop issues!

I was taking miralax and MOM every day and adding benefiber and Metamucil to my Protein shakes. I still only had a BP every 3 days and it was so hard I would make myself bleed trying to go. I finally discovered what worked was INSOLUBLE fiber. Metamucil and benefiber are both soluble fiber and can actually make constipation worse. Since I started adding insoluble fiber (Now Foods Apple fiber and ground flax seed) to my smoothies and Greek Yogurt I've been able to stop the miralax and MOM and I have a soft formed poop every morning.

Also snack has to have protein, protein, protein. Protein and fiber help you feel full. I got snack ideas out of the book.

    I need help

I was just researching Vitamins the other night. It looks like Opurity are the best because it's just one per day and it covers everything except calcium, so no need for extra B12 or Vitamin D. With anything else you will most likely need to take two per day and supplement B12 and Vitamin D. They were reasonably priced too. You can order them from Opurity.com. I was also researching unflavored Protein powders to add to Soups and yogurt and other foods. unjury seems to be a really popular choice. I'm pretty sure opurity.com also had that. I decided to go with Syntrax nectar from Amazon. It had great reviews and was cheaper than Unjury but had pretty much the same nutritional info.
  7. I'm on day 6 of 14 of my liver shrink diet. All I can have are protein shakes, any no calorie drinks (as much as I want), and sugar/fat free Greek yogurts. I'd love to have something to chew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am flat out hungry (rant)

Soup is good. Greek yogurt is good. My surgeon actually considers Greek yogurt a liquid because it's so good for healing. And still, a PPI is also good. Again, my surgeon's practice prescribes PPI routinely for 6 months post op. That roiling, churning is also stomach acid. Unfortunately, food also calms it down so I'd still follow up about a PPI. I think we were prescribed Prilosec 20mg twice a day.
  12. So one whole package of jello with one cup of water for one cup of yogurt? That seems like a lot, but I'm gonna give it a shot right now! If the proportions are different let me know and I will retry LoL

July 14 (or close )Sleeve Date Friends

I felt hungry after the first three days. I drank fruit punch protein drink instead of water sometimes and it helped a lot. By the time I got to day ten and could have full liquids and thinned yogurt I lost the hunger. But the gurgling that's constant is helped with the PPI and Gas X. I'm on day 17 now.
  14. Hey everyone, I am scheduled for bypass August 24th. Just wondering what you guys found was the best Protein supplements and drinks out there. Also my dietition recommended whole milk or 2% not fat free. Does that go for the yogurt too? Also they aren't having me do the liquid pre-op diet to shrink my liver and with liver disease/NASH I am puzzled why not since it is enlarged. Taking my gall bladder since I have stones and repairing my hiatal hernia. Thanks for any advice! Kathryn
  15. Oh my gosh so many good new ideas on this thread! I can't tell you how many yogurt threads j have followed as posted to and this is the best ever! Did the via this morning--yum! Trying the Jello and eggs next!
  16. meat MUST be moist or it will stick. I seem to have a very difficult time remembering this one. Best plan is to have something to dip it in - hummus, yogurt dip, salsa, something. I was just grocery shopping. There was a sample of roasted turkey. I said no then thought "wait, it's Protein ". Shaking my head....when will I learn...not only had I been drinking so I was full of Fluid, I obviously didn't have anything to make the meat moist. It was only 3 bites, not even half an ounce, but it was a no go. I got thru shopping but nearly an hour later it had to come back up. It hurt too much. Learn from me. Don't take samples from the store - even if it is protein.....
  17. I only buy FAGE 0% Greek yogurt. I eat it pretty much daily. In fact, I buy it by the case from Whole Foods. (6 pts @ $6.99ea - 10% case discount). I add it to my Protein shakes in the morning, use it instead of sour cream and even as a mayo replacement. I like that the only ingredients are milk and yogurt cultures. Nutrition breakdown is Calories 130, Fat 0, Carbs 9gm, Protein 23gm, Sugar 9gm per cup. As for add ins, I use pretty much anything on hand; fresh fruit, almond butter, a drizzle of raw honey, and on the rare occasion I buy flavored protein powder, I'll add a scoop of that and mix with the yogurt and then sit in the fridge for a bit to chill to the consistency of pudding. Me too, I find it the best and it's really lovely : Typical Values Typical Values per 100g Energy 243 kJ (57 kcal) Fat 0 g of which saturates 0 g Carbohydrate 4 g of which sugars 4 g Protein 10.3 g Salt 0.1 g Calcium 120 mg % R.D.A.* 15% *Recommended Daily Allowance -
  18. @OKCPirate Do you mix a whole scoop of Protein powder in it or half? Half (I also put a half in my coffee in the morning) BTW, I mixed plain Greek yogurt in my tomato Soup instead of sour cream. You can substitute it for nearly everything you want that creamy flavor in.
  19. I agree with the other about prepackaged crap. Sounds like you have some real issues. I wonder if t your doctor is allowing toast just to make you feel good, or if there is a medical reason for it. Ask the doctor. I eat what I call "CLEAN" Proteins that ar EFFICIENT, By that I mean Greek yogurt.--- read the label. The one I am eating now is 18 grams Protein for 130 calories (1 cup) I never buy a yogurt that is more than 10 calories per gram of protein. Refried Beans are a protein, I consider them IN EFFICIENT . TOO many calories and too many carbs for too few protein grams. eggs Yogurt Cottage cheese Ground turkey Pork chops Fish Even steak I eat a lot of meatballs in tomato sauce
  20. How do you guys stay hydrated in beginning? I am worried I will get depredated. Im only 3 days post op. Im drinking , yesterday I had like 12 oz water and 2 popsicles and some yogurt. this was spread out throughout day.
  21. If you like the taste of Jello, I like to do this.....I mix up 1 pkg of sugar free jello with a cup of hot Water and stir till the jello is dissolved. Then slowly mix it into a cup of plain Greek yogurt and then refrigerate it. The texture is like "whipped" yogurt and the flavor is amazing! My favorites are lemon and peach. Orange is good too.

    In the 100 Club!

@ I keep my calorie intake low that's about it. Maintain enough water and protein. I eat a lot of yogurt and cottage cheese for protein as meats tend to be very heavy on my stomach.
  23. I mix it with syntrax matrix PB Cookie! It's wonderful. Also with the chocolate and the mint chip one. I also mix in SF Torani syrups, fresh fruit, blend in in shakes into oatmeal and use it in salad dressings. Try mixing plain FAGE with the Starbuck Via instant pouches. They are strong so I use anywhere from a third to a quarter packet to every 4 ounces of yogurt. Ok I am totally having that for Breakfast tomorrow!!! Thank you! Never thought of that one!

    Plain protein powder

I like the Jarrow! I use it daily in my yogurt and it doesn't change the taste much at all
  25. Those first few days I just ate because I thought I was suppose to. I had low fat yogurt and a cup would last me 3 servings, I couldn't drink milk preop so I just kept unsweetened almond on hand to Water down pudding and yogurt. chicken broth was good but very small amounts like 2oz was more than a meal, Protein shakes were good but even those I watered down with almond milk. I love Quest bars, my favorite is Peanut Butter and jelly. At first you may not be able to eat them. I am 3 months post op and just recently started eating regularly. You'll find people really don't care if you eat or not. At first it was awkward for me, but really people don't care. If they order in sandwiches eat the filling. I just eat what I can when I can. I was home for a week, second week was rough, but I managed. I was very tired. I'm not sure I would have been able to take a full 2nd week off because I started getting antsy sitting around the house. I was wandering outside walking to the corner and back which is only like 3 lots. The more walking I did and still do the better I feel. When they let you walk, walk. I was given some clothes, I had a few different sizes and I just bought clothes is smaller than I had for the first time. I wish I had more time to exercise, but my level of motion has increased so much. I use to not be able to put my socks on with out struggling. Now I can do it standing up. I'm about to join a new gym, I'm hoping to shed more weight through exercise. I think the biggest surprise is my ever changing body. I have been this size before but I don't remember feeling like I do. I feel amazing. Good luck to you!! I hope my answers have helped. I wish j would have done this 5 years ago!!
