  1. What day are you post surgery? I hit stage 2 at day 8. If that is the plan you are on you will not be full for 4 hours on tomato Soup. I would recommend spreading out your "food". I would have soup (usually tomato or tomato/sweet red pepper with MRS Dash chicken flavor non salt spice mix added before heating), and a hour later have the Protein shake. Another hint. Measure out your soup. I used a coffee cup, which was just that a cup. Measure how much fits in a mug you will be shocked usually more like 2 cups. You could well be getting much more soup than you're planning on. This is a good time to retrain yourself about eating and food habits. And it is training. My mother used to say somewhat jokingly "What happened to the other half of my sandwich?" She had eaten so fast she did'nt even remember eating it. Presurgery I had to attend 3 sessions on eating habits where we discussed thinking about each bite and savoring it. Do you savor each bite? I did'nt. If you have'nt done so I highly recommend getting a digital food scale (one that you can zero out the weight of the plate). I was using it once I moved into the mushie stage. My doctor calls for 3 oz of protein and you would be suprised how little that actually is! Until you get restriction you will need to measure out food (or at least protein) The first week weeks are about healing but be sure to pick low cal/fat choices. There are a lot of nice Soups in the deli section of the grocery but some of them are super high in fat (anything with milk base). And, yes some of us are slow losers. Just had a huge talk about that at my PCP's office this morning!

    Tired of being fat

I can't wait until you check back in with us months down the road and say "I can't stop shopping for clothes!" Yes, it really does happen when you've lost the weight and love how you look in clothes finally
  3. Yesterday was my last weight in and the doctor called to say bypass would be best for me now so it has been submitted to my ins just waiting now

I gained 1.5 pounds on MUSHIES!

this was the reason I signed on this morning, I lost 10lbs post op and for the last 3 days the scale hasn't moved!!!!!! I'm so frustrated, I'm still on full liquids....so I am hungry and I'm not loosing weight. When do your doctors do the first fills? I have an appt next week which will be just under a month post op, will they do it then or only after you start back on "real" food?

I gained 1.5 pounds on MUSHIES!

Are you well enough to start exercise? That should help. I gained 8 pounds from surgery alone...That was a unwelcome sight. But I guess through all the stages our body must adjust to the changes too. I'm sure your 1.5 pounds will drop off plus some as long as you stay within your calorie range and slowly increse activity and excersise. Keep on Truckin...
  6. I think patience is the hardest thing to grasp. When I went for my first fill 5 weeks post op, I had lost 1 lb. Since then, I have dropped 12 lbs. No appt until 3/8 for second fill and have been at same weight since 10 days after 1st fill. (I was scheduled for a fill on 2/4 but had to reschedule due to inclement weather in Houston...go figure:) ) I'm really not worried because I know the weight loss will resume. I keep telling myself that the band is a tool and as long as I am doing the right thing, Life is Good! I'm sure you will do fine. It gets easier every day,

I geel like I can eat too much...opinions

I remember Bob Greene talking about plateauing. He said right before a big weight loss sometimes the body holds on to water. In his next breath he said if that doesn't happen, then the exercise may need to be ramped up.

I geel like I can eat too much...opinions

My stomach held around the same as yours at six weeks. I had very little inflammation so my stomach was much closer to its "mature" size than many other sleevers. Also, I had a rather long stomach so it's just automatically going to be able to hold more since there's nothing they can do about the length. As for you not losing/gaining.. that's very normal.. you may even have an entire month with no loss.. stalls happen. They suck but it's all part of the process.
  9. Has anyone gotten pregnant after the sleeve? I’m 10 weeks and having bad food aversions and nausea. Idk how I’m going to gain weight when I barely ate before pregnancy and now even less with pregnancy because nothing looks appetizing and I’m sick half the time (not throwing up just nausea). I’m just nervous I won’t be able to eat enough to gain the recommended weight for pregnancy. Sigh! 😞
  10. Highest weight 410. Current weight 240. Goal 195-200. This has changed my life. I feel so much better, & my attitude is so much better. Still got a ways to go but I'm on the downhill slide. My health is so much better. No diabetes, no more insulin shots, no more sleep apnea, no more neuropathy of the feet. I exercise & eat right. I'm so greatful for my 2nd chance at life. At 61 I feel better than when I was 40. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App
  11. I was banded on May 28th 2013. Started my pre op on May 15th @ 258lbs. I had severe sleep apnea. I weigh 203 today and feel like a new man. Somebody told me yesterday that I should stop losing weight I'm getting too skinny. I haven't heard that in a long time. This procedure is a lifesaver.
  12. Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and want to have the adjustable lap band procedure done. BMI is 37.6 based on height and weight, but do not suffer from the comorbidities they list on most of the websites i.e. high blood pressure, diabetes, heart conditions. I am 5'6" and weigh 232.8 lbs. Based off the "Ideal Body Weight" chart on the doctors website I've been considering, on the high end of the ideal weight I would be considered 89.9 lbs overweight. On the low end of the ideal weight, I would be considered 115.8 lbs. overweight. I have 2 degenerative disks in my lower spine that with the extra weight sometimes prevent me from walking. I have steroid shots in my back as needed for pain. I have severe knee pain as a result of arthritis. Also been told that I have borderline thyroid. Family history is both parents suffered from type 2 diabetes, both had kidney problems, and both had congenital heart failure and both died at age 65 of heart attacks. Do any doctors consider these other factors when determining a clients eligibility or is it strictly the BMI? Is there any way around not having the >40 BMI and no comorbidity?

    Patience is a virtue...... (pshh)

For me it was about 2 months from the time I completed the 6 month physician monitored weight loss and exercise program and the surgery. This time period had a lot of activity including: pre-op tests, second round of pre-op testing with specialist in field of concern, very detailed training course.
  14. I love these forums because I just keep reading stories of people who are JUST LIKE ME. My surgery is scheduled December 9th, and I too have been eating out of control because I wont be able to after the surgery, why not do it now right? But like you I cant fit into most of my clothes and refuse to buy new till I lose weight. My boyfriend of 5.5 years also says hes supportive, but when I tried to talk to him about my insecurities (because I feel horrible about myself right now), he told me I cant love someone else if i dont love myself, and i need to work on my issues first, so now we're on a break. I am livid at him for not being there when i need him, and im not sure if he is supportive of my decision to have surgery anymore. My mom is also not supportive at all (she is also tiny). Luckily i have great friends and co-workers who are very supportive, and no matter what i am going through with this surgery for ME, nobody else, and thats what you need to focus on. I am so anxious for my date to get here, i swear ive been counting down and its making it go slower, grrr! Well good luck with everything, and thank you for sharing!
  15. I'm so worried about this!! Congrats on the 27lb weight loss that is awesome!! Hang in there , it will pass!!!!

    New Here!

Hi Blu! Congrats on your current weight loss! :scales: One of my goals is also not having to ask for a seat belt extender. I always fly Southwest and they are nice about sneaking it to me but still! I also hope to take up horseback riding which I haven't done since I was little. There are so many things that will change with weight loss and I'm really excited to be getting there! Good Luck to you with your weight loss!! :waytogo:
  17. Day 3 of pre op liquid diet. Surgery in 5 days on 2/23 which is 11 weeks from when I should have gotten it done but postponed because of Covid spike. I have been reading how much weight people lost in the first 90 days or so and it is inspiring! I understand there will be some rough times ahead but I know this is going to be worth it! I should be back home this time next week thinking what the Hell have I done but tht too will pass. I have enjoyed lot of good reading and gained a bit of knowledge on here in a short time. Let the journey begin!

    Saggy Vaggy

Sooooooooo... Yea. If you're squeamish, you may want to skip this entry. I'm going to keep it as clean as possible because I don't want this entry deleted, I think it's important to talk about. Anyway, so I'm starting to notice the weight loss on my body parts. My thighs are sagging, my face, my breasts... All heading downhill. But I knew sagging would happen, so I really didn't stress about it. Well last night in the shower, I noticed something else sagging...... My vaggy! What? What's this? Is that all me? I decided to investigate further once I was out. Got a mirror, locked my door, turned the lights on bright. I took a good look. I Definitly noticed some changes. First of all, i noticed stretch marks! Who knew you could get stretch marks from losing weight down there?! They were on the side and towards the back..Ugh. Wonder if I should try rubbing Merderma or Palmer's Cocoa Butter on it.......?? Umm. Nah. I better not. And do you know how it looks to blow up a raft, balloon, etc., with air? Well that's how it used to look. Now deflate that balloon, raft, etc. That's how it looks now... Wonder if I can get Botox there?? Nah. Sounds painful. Guess ill just have to live with this saggy vaggy. I wonder if any other WLS female patients have noticed sagging in well.. Unusual areas. Nah. Probably just me.

    Disturbing Email

I don't know if this applies to the person who emailed you - at the numerous slimming clubs that I have been to there was always one type of person. This person always said I can't loose weight no matter what I do, it's my metabolism, it's God's fault etc etc. When they stuck to the diet for the first week and lost several pounds it was a miracle. The second week they lost more pounds and suddenly their husband liked them fat and didn't want them to come anymore. What I'm getting at is some people simply won't make the commitment because they haven't got it in them. I don't know but maybe this person isn't sticking to the rules. Please don't let them distract from having a new and fantastic life.

    weight loss stall...help

Hello, FYI if you go to the search bar and type in weight loss stalls, click on the down arrow and choose forum under topic, over 1000 forum results will show up. A lot have good information and share suggestions. Everyone is different. Remember, it takes 3-4 months for you body to adjust to major surgery. Your body is still healing. That being said, this is not a miracle cure, but a tool. There will be times when the scale will not reflect weight loss, however, you body is losing inches. Be patient! Good luck in your journey.

    clothes shopping!

I understand what you are going through 100%...to have nice, plus size clothes, Lane Bryant is the best place to go but they are SOOOOOoooooo expensive. I have already lost some weight waiting for surgery (November) and I got so sick and tired of going back to Lane Bryant to get clothes, that I have started looking at nice thrift stores. I figure I am not going to be in the higher sizes for much longer...and I am not going to go broke continuing to shop for them. I cannot wait to be able to shop in the regular ladies department, at ANY store, ANY price point and find nice clothes. Our day will come when we just walk past stores like Lane Bryant and into all the stores we just walked by and looked into for years.

    How about NO vitamins?!

Some people absorb vitamins, minerals and other nutrients more optimally than others. Simply put, I need my supplements because I don't absorb them well from food. Due to hypothyroidism, I'm prone to multiple deficiencies (zinc, vitamins A, B12 and D, iron, etc). I've been deficient in thiamine (vitamin B1) 1 year post-op and required an injection, so I supplement with a vitamin B complex in addition to whatever else I take. I also had deficiencies in vitamins A and D prior to weight loss surgery, so I take those. I'm black. Vitamin D deficiency runs rampant in the black community. Our people need triple the sun exposure time to produce enough vitamin D naturally due to darker skin pigmentation, so I'll supplement with it for life. Blacks also have magnesium deficiency more often than those from other racial/ethnic backgrounds. The moral of the story is that some of us need supplements to avoid nutritional deficiencies.
  23. Sounds to me like you want this for all the right reasons. Perhaps you could start talking to your doc about weight - that would give you a head start on the "doctor supervised weight program" even while you are still pregnant. Most of all, for now, just worry about having that baby! You are close... Good luck!
