Two weeks out and not losing :(

I am right there with you. I am starting my third week and my weight has not budged an bit. I put away my scale and will not weigh myself until my follow-up with the surgeon on the 26th. I hope this will keep me from getting discouraged. I know this will break at some point. I am writing down everything I eat. I get between 800 and 1000 calories a day. I ride my bike at least 45 minutes 6 days a week. There is no way my body can maintain 238 pounds forever. It will break at some point.

    I learn something new everyday!!1

Hey, I didnt even know this was out here. Great, a spot where I can post all my info... where I can look back at a glance, yeahhh. Most that know me know I have not been banded yet. I just finished the 6 month PCP visits and now I am just waiting for an answer. But in the meantime, I am not waiting to jump start my weightloss. Since the new year, I lost 25 lbs and hope to be at goal by 12/31. Some days I do really well and some days... DAMN, life aint so great. Well thanks to all my friends on LBT, I stay motivated and am looking forward to losing this weight for good!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
  3. I feel the same as you do. When I went for my one month post surgery appointment, the surgeon told me I had lost slightly more at that point than the norm. He felt that I would definitely hit my goal by one year. However, since then, my weight loss has really slowed down. I am almost 3 months out now, and I've lost 40 lbs. I went through a stall that lasted almost a month! But, I've been dribbling down a pound here and a pound there. I know I've eaten a few things I probably shouldn't have (like crackers), but not too much. Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing something right, but I don't know what it could be. I look for Protein in everything I put in my mouth, and I still use shakes/drinks. All the veterans say that you have to embrace the "stalls" and they will end. As long as I continue to lose, I will hang in there. I don't know what else to do. Are you exercising? Taking your supplements/vitamins? Get that 64 oz Water in a day (at least) and your protein. I think all of that is the most important.

    Advice and encouragement

Many people think they are a "slow loser" but in fact they just have unrealistic expectations from shows like My 600 Lb Life, which features people who lose "fast" because they are much bigger than your average WLS patient. You may still be a slow loser; I can't tell how much of your 33 lb weight loss was before surgery, but I lost about 9 lbs on average per month for the first 6 months after surgery, and my surgery center said I was doing great! Try to focus on things you can control, like eating and drinking and exercising the way your surgery center recommended, and don't worry about the scale. You might also focus on how your clothes fit or other "non-scale victories". You might also consider reaching out to your surgery center to make sure you're on track, and consider seeing a bariatric therapist. Good luck!

    Post Op Port Pain

I'm 14 days post surgery and I gained all the strength back in my abdomen. Now, I am getting a strange sensation UNDER my port area. When I go from a sitting to standing position, I feel like it is snagging on something. Hoping I didn't tear a stitch? I'm an orchestra director and do a lot of arm waving. Anyone else experience this?
  7. I was at the same (over)weight for so long (over a decade) that I didn't have ANY smaller clothes still hanging about; when I started losing weight, I was out of my entire wardrobe in under two months. :ack2: Freaked me out if I'm honest LOL. Those jeans look great -- well done you!!!
  8. MG I was sleeved on 10/2 and doing well also. I am down 36 pounds from surgery and 81 pounds total. I am 19 pounds from 100 and have 41 pounds to reach my goal of 185. We are the same height. Tough staying away from sweets this time of year for my company gets bombarded with gift basket after gift basket. I need to increase my water intake and stay on top of my vitamins and protein. Slacked off from the gym last week but going back to daily gym this week. Been working on strength and muscle toning as well as minimum of 30 minutes of daily cardio. Had been on a stall for a few weeks but weight is creeping off again. Keep up the good work!

Help Me Get "back On The Horse" Please!

Congrats on the babies!! Remember the 30-30-30 rule? No drinking 30 mins before 30 mins after and should take u about half hour to eat your meal.NO DRINKING DURING MEALS! This causes your food to pass fast threw the band taking more food to get that full feeling. You should also be eating about a cup of food at a time. Count calories! And measure your food portions. I use my firnesspal sometimes you arent aware of how much you intake a day when you see it it makes a difference. Everyone is different aim for 60-90 grams of Protein a day Start off with 3 meals a day and 2 Snacks drinks lots and lots of Water during the day but remember the 30-30-30 rule! Stay away from empty calorie drinks they add up quick. Exercise half hour a day atleast. My fitness pal tells me i need to burn 3500 calories a week to lose 2 pounds. Finally dont get discouraged and just keep going full force forward. I gained 35 of the 40 pound i lost after i became pregnant after 2 years of no fills i had my first one in april of this year and i have lost 36 pounds since april. Im at 5.75 in a 10cc band and i have another fill coming up in august. Keep your head up and good luck.

Blocked? Obstructed? Slippage? not sure.. HELP

Good luck jess. It sounds like you are just over filled, the same thing happened to me and all I could eat was rice crakers (what is with that:huh2:) I had some taken out and am feeling fine. I was pbing everything, except Water and rice crackers for over a week. I was addicted to the weight loss (naughty me). I then realised that the wieght loss wasn't real anyway, it was just Fluid (unfair) Anyway, i am now under restricted (unfair) and trying to hold off getting any more fill for a couple of weeks as i feel I need to rest my body and my band........:tongue2: Good luck, i am sure you will be fine. Tuesday will come pretty quick

    Gurgling

I gurgle all the time after I eat. It can be embarrassing!! I had to explain myself once in a meeting with my boss because I was so embarrassed. I now make it a point to not eat atleast a 1/2 hour before I have to be close to people in a meeting at work or something like that. It is a weird feeling though, very unvoluntary and it can't be controlled. My nearby coworkers laugh at it now.... It doesn't really bother me now that I've learned how to manage it, definitely a side effect I can deal with for the control over my eating and weight loss!!

Yeah! I'm 10 Lbs From Goal!

Yea, I noticed that too... the similarities ... but I am nearly two years out and have been maintaing at this weight for over six mths.... you're gonna do it before your year!! WOW!! Whatever I do, just isn't shifting the last remaining fat cells... my ticker shows my surgeon's goal, which still leaves me in the overweight BMI range... to get to my personal goal, and in the top end of the normal BMI ( I based this on the lightest I used to be as a young adult) is 25lbs or so away... don't think I am going to get there... but, for now, I shan't stop trying. I just had a look at your blog... I love the bit about exercising now... I love using the treadmill, but I haven't used it for a while, and I started the same way... just one more minute, just one more level... in the end, I got to a 50 minute interval jog.... that was a great day!!!! Jogging, walking and running are great ways to get lean leg muscles and great cardio... good for you!! =]
  13. I am so ready to be in Onederland! I've been waiting to be under 200 pounds for a lifetime it seems. Actually, I haven't been under 200 for 17 years and that was when I was going to Weight Watchers and had lost 50 pounds which took me a full year to do so and I made it to 194 then had some things in my life happen and gained it all back plus 20 pounds. Then I did this a few more times. I lost 70 only to gain back 90! I pray this is my last attempt to do this and I really believe it is. So far I've lost 88 pounds in 6 1/2 months but my weight loss has slowed down so much. I guess I really expected this to happen. I mean really?? How else could I lose this amount of weight in this amount of time?? NO way except by this wonderful tool I've been given by the grace of God. I mean that! He has blessed me with this gift and I never want to go back. I've come too far and been through to much. I'm 6 pounds away from ONEDERLAND! I will be so happy and feel so blessed when the scale reads 199!!! I know it is going to take awhile for the 6 pounds to come off but I've been doing everything I should except exercising like I should. I started a new job full-time and I'm not use to that. I've been laid off since February and there again God blessed me with this job. I started last week. The only thing is I sit at a desk all day and my upper back is in excruciating pain. I don't have a clue what is causing this!! I'm thinking I've lost muscle mass?? Does anyone know anything about this?

    SO close yet SO far....

Actually I've noticed more back/shoulder pain since surgery and the only thing I'm thinking is that it's chest related. I've lost weight everywhere else, but not there so there's less fat to hold them in a comfortable position and maybe they're stressing out my back

  16. There was a great debate on another forum about weight loss and hair loss. Some people say it's Protein, some say it's rapid weight loss, some say (like Daisy stated) that's a huge shock to your system. I didn't experience any hair loss with my band surgery. I'm a month out from the sleeve, and haven't noticed any hair loss.
  17. I have surgery on the 6th and am very excited. I am on an antidepressant along with abilify, and pain meds for my back. After losing weight will these still be needed do you think? What meds or problems did u have preop that you no longer have?

    Upset and disgusted

You will totally find highs and lows during the band weightloss journey. I have had those exact feelings you just described. Look in the mirror and see no progress. In fact, I still do. My only advice is to set little goals and totally celebrate them! For me I celebrate each ten pound loss. I finally ran a complete lap at the gym - not a fast lap by any means but I didn't stop to walk.... another celebration. If you approach it as one little accomplishment at a time you'll see the rewards and keep going. If you are only focused on the final weight - the journey will be so long and tiring. Hang in there 27 lbs is great!
  19. Does anyone know how long clearances last? I got my clearances over with such as heart Doctor, psychologist appointment, and nutritional counseling back in August 2015. Once my insurance got back to me, they said I needed two more nutritionist appointments. Friday is my last one. I'm afraid I've gained weight. Is losing weight a MUST before surgery? Also, does anyone know how long it to their insurance to have a final approval? I have WellCare if that helps. Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

    Progress Pictures ☺

U look so happy, refreshed, and beautiful. I am truly happy for you. My highest weight was 360. Right now I am 338 and I feel miserable. And just like you said I am only existing and not living life. I can not wait to start living life because at the weight I am right now it doesn't seem possible. Thank u for being an inspiration. I can not wait to get this bariatric program rolling so that I can get my surgery.

    What is left to do?

YES that is possible. My highest weight was 423 and I am now 331, so about 80 pounds. I have a long path to get to 200 to 225. And I might not need CPAP later, but let me tell you, it does NOT interfere at all with my sleep, so I might just keep using the CPAP...

    Struggling

I am struggling too. Ive had the band for 6 months and havent lost the weight i want to lose. What i am starting to do now is eat 6 small meals instead of 3. My meals usually consist of chicken topped with a little bit of cheese or baked fish with a vegetable or a salad. If i am hungry a couple hours later i would have cut up fruit or a yogurt. I also dont eat breakfast which i found out can cause you to gain weight so now i either have a packet of instant oatmeal or grits or a protein shake. I am also starting to limit my carb intake and reduce my sugar. Because i wasnt getting that full feeling i was eating larger portions. After going to the doctor for my 3rd fill he told me that my meals should be a 1/2 a cup so i went to walmart and brought tupperware that was 1/2 cup so that i wouldnt be tempted to eat large portions. He also told me to take 20 min to eat the food and stop after that whether your full or not.
  23. Wow is all I can say! I don't feel too bad! Doing better everyday and still on clear liquids and shakes! I know I am not getting enough but I just don't want more? My mind is super hungry for real food!!! All the commercials make me hungry! I want this and want to do what is needed to get this weight OFF!!!

    HYPOTHYROIDISM

I have heard of people taking Synthroid for Hypothyroidism and them BOOM magically they are cured and taken off the meds?!?! I really believe it was a misdiagnosis because Hypothyroidism not cured with weight loss. (I have a co-worker that claims his thyroid magically worked after taking meds for 1 year and losing weight... Hmmm) I have searched high and low for medical proof. The most I have found is that certain foods hinder your thyroid function. By eliminating those foods, you can help boost function but not cure it. In fact, my Dr has assured me, I will be on Synthroid for the rest of my life. I have a extremely low functioning thyroid (my Dr referred to my thyroid as being DEAD!) and I take 125mcg per day. My endo put it to me like this: take the Synthroid for the rest of your life to help perk up the thyroid or have surgery to take out the thyroid and continue to take meds for the rest of your life. Wow... real win-win situation there. Also, I believe the dose of Synthroid is based on your thyroid function, not on your weight.

    The 'good ol' plateau!

Woow i swear i thought i was the only one going through this roadblock smh my surgery was also 8/4/15 and ive lost only 19 lbs. im like something aint right? Did my surgeon perform the surgery correctly? Lol its soo aggravating when i see other people a month in and theyve lost almost 40-60 lbs what the heck. I thought for sure i would have been one of those people. Worse part is i feel exactly the same ughh. 1 more week until i can get in the gym im soo ready for this weight to just start melting off. When will this "plateu" go away?? Ugh
