  1. I would not get frustrated. Give your body time to adjust. I was banded in jan 08 and have lost 60 lbs, I walk 2x /day gym 3-4 x week. I had weight loss every month but this last one, month 8. So I got another fill, got another coming up next week, lost only 2lbs this month. very slow the further you get down the road. It seemed as if I hit a plateu about every 10-15 lbs for a week or so. We had a support mtg on this topic, advise was to use the FITT technique. Change only one of these to break that plateau (Frequency, Intensity, Type or Time). I may only lose 1 lb per week, but my body is changing still every day it seems, everything fits differently each time I get dressed. It is wonderful. The inside stuff has to change as well. So it all has to catch up together as well. Learn to use the band to your advantage and don't work around it. The tighter you can tolerate the better, Hey that is what I signed up for. If I put in too much food, it should punish me, I have to learn to do the right thing , to make "good food choices". If we don't we will end up dissatisfied or worse ,where we were to began. This is a lifetime journey. relax and try to enjoy. I was banded in Pinehurst NC. Whoo hoo! No regrets!! Keep up the good work and don't be hard on your self. Marsha:thumbup:
  2. If you think you're slow...I've lost only 15 lbs since May 8 surgery date! AND I work out 5-6 times a week for 1 1/2 hrs. I have 7.02cc in a 10cc band & have good restriction most times. For some reason I can still eat more than I think I should be able to & my hunger isn't satisfied like some I've read about on this site with a small amt. probably due to the working out thing makes me hungry all the time. The only reason I'm slimmer inches-wise is because of my weight training/cardio. I could have done this without the band & used the 14K to hire a personal trainer/cook. So frustration is my best friend these days. I wish I could offer you more positive feedback, sorry.
  3. @Maribelle76 is right. We all heal & recover differently. I returned to work part-time after 4 weeks & I struggled because of brain fog & low blood pressure (had a tendency before but after surgery it was low all the time). One friend was fine after a week but another needed three. If you can zoom your classes I’d take advantage of it to begin then try in person to see how you go. Hope all goes well with your surgery & recovery.
  4. I had surgery on 8/31 and I am back to work today. I drove 40 minutes to work. my incisions cured up very nicely so it has not been hard for me at all. I am not struggling at all with pain. I was driving at day 7 to my one week appointment, no problems. I do wear thigh high compression sleeves on my legs to be extra careful sitting in the car that long.
  5. Hello all, Laura from W. Mich here. I was banded on Tues. and have had a progressively improving feeling of returning to my "old self." I ended up having two hernias repaired as well as the lap band. I am so glad the doctor went ahead with those two repairs because I don't know if I would want to go through the recovery period again. So I spent one night in the hospital and was well cared for there. Still and all, the worst day for me was day three. It does hurt, I need to tell you, and it took until today, day five, for me to feel like I'm getting back to normal. I have really no hunger. At this point I'm finding it hard to get enough protein in. I meet with my doctor on Mon. for post-op and the nurse/dietician on Tues. I have been writing down my questions to keep track of them. I did weigh myself today and after the 2 and a half weeks of liquid diet, I've lost 12 lbs. That is inspiring! So good luck to all you Luck Losers who will go in this week. And how are you other earlier March Losers doing?
  6. How long is this gas in my chest going to last??? I'm 3 days post op....

    In need of some advice

I'm new too and felt exactly like you before my surgery on Dec 3rd. I now understand already what people are talking about! My appetite is just not there anymore which feels like such a blessing and that is how I am able to be on an all liquid diet for the last 10 days without cheating or any cravings. It is actually amazing! Before surgery I was on the pre-op diet for 10 days where I had 3-4 Protein shakes and a small meal. That was so much more than I'm eating now and I was starving. I too, was never able to stick to any diet plan in the past but with the grehlin greatly reduced, my appetite is now completely manageable. Yours will be too and that, my friend is how you will be successful!
  8. @@billitant You are absolutely right. We could do it if there were 36 hours in a day but there is no way I can manage 80 Oz a day with 3 meals and snack. And there is work as well.
  9. I started my period on the operating table, and had it for about a week, was off for a few days, then had a HEAVY period for about a month. It stopped for two days and just started AGAIN! Anyone else had an experience like this??

4 mths post op and still unhappy

Hi Kindle So far I have tried 5 different reflux meds and have now been taken off them totally - go back to the doctor in 3 weeks time to maybe have a scope to see if they can see anything. As for my kidney failure this was caused by taking my bp med with nexium, toxins were produced in my body causing my kidneys to shut down 95%. I thought doing this now (I am 41) would make my golden years easier but I am so very unhappy and cry almost every other day. At 4 months I would have thought things would be easier... I totally regret my decision but know I just have it live with it

Tips for QUICK loss to make weight?

@@MoMo12onTheGo I totally hear ya. Have you lost weight over the course of the last 3 months? I don't understand that 5lb number unless you have not lost any weight the past 90 days. I would be feeling uneasy too and the most frustrating part is that nobody can explain WHY they require the extra appointment. I'm thinking about bringing it up to Dr Chen if I see him at my next appt but I know he doesn't like getting involved in the front office stuff. I just want SOMEONE in a position of power to know that we are frustrated.

    Anyone Else Had This Problem

Wow! thats impressive. There is no way I would dare to exercise at the minute. Thing is, the pain only started 2.5 weeks after the surgery so I just don't understand it. I have got 2 lots of antibiotics to take so will see how it goes. Thanks for all your replies.
  14. My surgeon recommended starting a basic Multivitamin to make sure levels are optimal before surgery. He also suggested selecting my Protein powder so that I don't forget about it. He said any exercises I can do, including abdominal exercises, will help me in the long run. I have been trying to eat clean, drink plenty of Water, and stay healthy. I'm 20 days out from surgery. my liquid diet starts in about 2 weeks. Did your surgery center give you a binder or anything with tips and instructions? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My surgery is set for November. All that is required now is to begin the two week liquid diet before surgery. I know the journey won't be easy, but I still feel as if I'm getting a new lease on life!

    I'm New Here...

The best way to find the requirements for your surgery is to go to the web site for your policy and search "bariatric" to see what comes up. There should be policy guidance which lists the requirements. Some require a history of trying to lose weight (doctor's records can be enough), others require a monitored weight loss plan - often your surgeon's office already knows the requirements because they do this. Do make a list of questions you want to ask your surgeon. Consider bringing a trusted relative or friend with you to the appointment. My first consult was 3 hours and had to be done after attending an informational seminar at the hospital. There was a lot of information to digest (no pun intended) at that first meeting, so having another set of ears around doesn't hurt. best of luck.

My insurance requires 6 months doctor monitored diet, so I have been on for the last 4 months. Dec 2nd is my 6th app, so then it goes to my insurance for approval. Once approved I go on the 2 week diet before surgery. My health care advocate with my insurance ( who will review for pre authorization) is hopeful it will be approved quickly as long as nothing is missing.

    Woo! 299!!

So happy for you! I know how amazing it feels to get rid of that 3 in your weight for the last time ever!
  21. Please give me ideas on food.. Maybe recipies.. Im putting together my grocery list
  22. I'm following my plan to the lettter. It's not as strict as yours and I'm taking in about 350-400 calories a day. I'm 13 days out from surgery and not losing. I haven't lost anything in the past 6 days. I'm not holding Water and getting a reasonable amount of exercise. Right now I'd just like to meet one of those food expert jerks who say "calories in calories out - it's that simple" just so I could smack the stupid off of them. I imagine I will begin to lose weight when I can transition to food and go low carb. But that was always the way it worked for me so I'm wondering where the big benefit of this surgery is. I get sick of eating low carb all the time. I'm hoping I'll just get to where I don't care about food at all and can just use it for fuel. Then low carb won't be such a drudgery. Yea, I'm fed up. You can only keep thinking "it will start falling off" for so long and then you start to wonder. With pre-op 580 calories a day for 9 days I am one week short of a month in time and I've lost far less than I would have if I had joined weight watchers.
  23. Mine had the same but is was 40 or 35 with 2 co-morbid conditions (heart condition, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.). But they would also approve a Lap Band for someone with 30 BMI with co-morbid conditions. 50 lbs!!! That seems crazy to me!! I lost 50lb in the first 3 months. My husband lost 40 in 3 weeks!
  24. I started soft foods this weekend. Have been doing great. So thrilled to be off liquids! But today was my first full day back at the office and I didn't plan well enough. I only took a small yogurt and a protein shake (gag). By the end of the day, I felt puny and knew I needed to eat. Got home, fixed my tuna and ate too fast. Did not throw up but felt sick for 3 hours. Lessons learned: Pack adequate nutrition! Don't eat fast! I know all this but had to still learn the hard way I guess.
  25. I'm not a vet by any means as I'm only 3 months post surgery, but i thought you might like this perspective as well. I had a hard shell taco from Taco Bell last week while I was out running errands and ate about 1/2. I might have been able to eat more, but that looked like about 3 ounces, which is what I'm supposed to eat each meal, so I just stopped. Knock on wood...but thus far I've not slimed or thrown up and I want to do everything in my power to keep it that way.
