@GradyCat @possum220 @ toggletrue thank you for the support and encouragement. I get so much out of this app. I appreciate sharing their journey. I found out from my doctor’s office that I may need to be out from work for 2-3 weeks. My boss said that I could work from home. -
My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok, so day 3 is a wrap, and I'm still struggling, although i was surprised to see I've lost 5 pounds in 3 days on this liquid diet, so that kind of helped my motivation lol I know this isn't necessarily for weight loss per se, but it's at least a nice perk. I'm really just having issues when I have to take my pills. They require food, and even when I take them with milk and/or milkshakes, my stomach still gets really upset. This worries me when the surgery is over and I can only have clear liquids for 2 weeks. I'm really nervous about how sick my stomach will get. -
No leaking for me either. Neither did my three who also had a sleeve. I didn’t have a liquid test to test for a leak either. They can occur anywhere between the first days or up to a few weeks after surgery - I guess until you are fully healed. They are not very common. Surgeons tend to staple & stitch to decrease the risk of a post surgical leak. You can do things to help avoid a leak too. Follow your eating plan (nutrition & not stressing or straining your healing tummy), don’t carry anything too heavy (<10lbs to begin), don’t be too active too soon (gentle walking at first). If you have any symptoms go to your nearest hospital & contact your surgeon as soon as possible. All the best with your surgery.

Just curious if anyone who has had the sleeve if they experienced their sleeve leaking post op?? I have not had surgery yet, its next week Tues (May 3rd). I had my appt today with my surgeon and I know its just to inform me of what could happen with risks of the surgery but when she was going in to detail of the steps needed if a leak is found or happens. It made me take a step back and I said whoa! Im sure its my mind messing with me since Im only 5 days away from surgery date. But I dont recall of anyone in here mentioning having a leak. Maybe the statistics are low but it sure does make you say hmmm?

Incision area discolored. (Picture)
fourmonthspreop replied to liveaboard15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looks normal (and fresh). My incisions turned yellowish green too. So long as there's no discharge, swelling or fever you're likely fine. Good to check with your doctor too. Here's what mine looked like one week post op. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )
fourmonthspreop replied to New_me_2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm almost 3 months out and I've been eating carbs since my puree phase (had beans then). I do everything in moderation, eat my protein first and enjoy carbs on the side. I've lost 42 lbs since my surgery. Carbs aren't the enemy, eating too much is. Of course we have limited room as weight loss surgery peeps so I understand the need for protein first but if your dietician okays it and you can stand it, go for it. I do best with Chickpea pasta, wild/brown rice and potatoes. You can chew them up really well so they go down easy. I've had the low carb tortillas but they get "stuck" most of the time so I avoid them. Haven't had bread/toast/flour/corn tortillas yet because I was told to wait 6 months for bread products. 4 Weeks Out - Eating is a chore
lizonaplane replied to eclarke's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I felt this a lot early on, except that I was hungry. eating was hard and nothing tasted good. After a few months (I think by month 3-4) I started being able to enjoy food again. I am 7.5 months out and I still find that things like ground meat (think chili or hamburgers minus the buns) or fish/seafood works better for me than chicken breast or steak, but I'm getting better at eating cuts of meat. I find that food needs to have a sauce on it, especially if it's going to be reheated. I'll use cheese sauces, fat free greek yogurt, refried beans, salad dressing, mayo, etc as sauce. Tomato sauce would probably work, but I don't like it. It does get better! -

@Spinoza @gmast99 I am right there with you two, in a stall 😂 This month was slow to begin with and now have stalled for the last 2 weeks bouncing up and down between 158 and 159 😒 Seems like there is a thing called 5th or 6th stall 😂😂 It's very similar to the 3 week one majority of us have had right after the surgery. Just waiting now for the damn scale to move and get the downward spiral to kick start yet again. -
SO FLIPPING COLD!
lizonaplane replied to lizonaplane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I travel for work, so I'm in a different office/desk every week, sometimes every few days. If I can't easily pack it in carry on, I can't use it, unfortunately. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
gmast99 replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Things here are going really well. I can eat whatever I want but only a little. I am tolerating sugars and fats better. Veggies and fruit are still the safest to eat. I have been stalled for a month which is fine. Still not down to the 190s yet. But I feel great and I look good. My friends and coworkers tell me that I am still losing weight just the scale is slow to catch up. I am definitely still losing inches. I am using a ton of lotion trying to keep my skin as hydrated as possible and hoping it will not look to flabby when all is said and done. My scars are still very visible but there is not much that can be done about that. Still no regrets. -

Oh I went looking for our thread and I can't believe it was on PAGE 3!!! Outrageous! Updates please? I'm doing well - have hit a bit of a stall for the last two weeks but I had one coming. Hoping to see the scales move again soon - I have more to lose! Feeling great, walking really fast these days for exercise and actually broke into a trot a few times recently - do you think I could run again? I would SO love that - I told my surgeon that when he asked what my main goal for WLS was. Edited to add - and it sounded completely ridiculous then, but not so much now... -
Aw that's such bad luck to hit a totally unrelated setback when you were doing so well! You're absolutely entitled to a bit of a wallow. You know this isn't the end though, just a blip. Upper body workouts for the next couple of weeks? I hope you recover really soon.

Alcohol 3 weeks post sleeve op.
Spinoza replied to Donna zariya's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I asked my dietician about alcohol and she said a glass or two of champagne during the winter holidays was fine - I was 5.5 weeks post op by then. It did hit me harder and wear off quicker than before. I've had wine most weekends since then - one or two glasses. I'm certain it must have slowed my weight loss because there are calories in it, but I accept that because I really like wine. I hope you got some answers that were helpful OP! -
I am 8 weeks post op. I was sleeved on 3/1/22 and everything has been going great until last weekend when I tripped on the stairs and sliced my big toe open. Now I’m sitting around the house with a bandaged toe and a boot for outside. I’m so bummed because I had just gotten into a good workout routine. Although I am still hitting my protein and water goals I noticed right away that I was consuming more calories. I feel bloated and just all around blah. I convinced myself yesterday that this is where my weight loss stops and I just need to find happiness in where I am at now. My starting weight was 266 and I now weigh 222.6 lbs. All in my feels today….

Hi: New to this site, thanks for any imput. I am fighting the post op blues still and I am learning what I can and can't eat, soft food wise. I am experiencing sort of a wave of nausea when something hits my stomach, it usually goes away, except once when I didn't chew enough, then it came back. Anyone experience this? Anyway I sort of dread eating now, and I had a really hard time even getting near the 500-700 calories a day my doctor recommended. (I'm sure this has been asked many, many times before) But will I ever enjoy eating again? I'm not hungry but it is difficult to see others eat things I use to love, and this adds to my feelings of depression and regret. I'm sure this will change but it would help to hear from others. Thanks!

Pain after surgery
Flab-U-Less Forever replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry you are in so much pain. There are two different gas pains. One is from the abdominal inflation and is trapped in your abdominal cavity which, from what I was told, presses on your diaphragm and the shoulder pain is inferred from nerves near the diaphragm. The other is intestinal gas due to the surgery itself. Unfortunately, I found my pain meds did not touch either one. The shoulder pain took about 2-3 days to go away (it gets re-absorbed into the body) but my intestinal gas pains took about 10 days. I found the intestinal gas to much more painful. I could literally feel the air bubbles moving through my system. I did take chewable Gas-X and found little relief (they will only help the intestinal gas). Eventually, it will be gone and a dim memory...hope you are feeling better otherwise. -
SO FLIPPING COLD!
lizonaplane replied to lizonaplane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never heard of heated socks. I'll have to see whether they can be brought on a plane (I fly every week). -
I am currently 6 weeks PO and experience left shoulder pain almost every time I eat. Sometimes it is a minor nuisance, while sometimes it is agony that has me screaming in pain. I've noticed that the bad ones happen when I have meat. It normally lasts about 20 minutes and the pains feel like intervals of spasms and nerve pain. I am aware this could have something to do with gas, nerves, and the diaphragm. Can anyone elaborate on this issue? Also how long is too long? Is there treatment?

Meds you HAVE to take daily and cant crush

check with your clinic. I was able to swallow all my pills whole right away except for two of them - I had to wait a couple of weeks on those. -
Alcohol 3 weeks post sleeve op.
Cutenchubby replied to Donna zariya's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Not sure if it’s too late to chime in to be helpful but I’ll give you my experience and advice. I was not given much guidance by my program about alcohol other than to avoid it for the empty calories aspect. As a Jew, wine is part of our holidays, rituals and celebrations so it’s hard to avoid. Yea, I could do juice but I don’t want to, I like wine and I’m an adult, damnit. I had a small glass at home a week or so post op and noticed that it feels a little funny when it hits my stomach but that goes away quickly and I drink a lot less than I used to. I feel it sooner, but once I stop drinking the buzzed feeling goes away sooner too. So overall for me a pro. I drink 1-3 glasses a week (still much less than I did before) and do not binge cause I don’t want to get hammered in a hurry. If you’re going to drink at an event, I’d recommend trying it at home to see how you handle it. That way if you have a problem, you’re in a safe place. I can’t speak to the dumping as although I drink sweet wine, I haven’t had an issue. I just treat it like any other liquid and don’t chug or take big sips. This way, one glass lasts a lot longer too. Another bonus in my opinion. If your program specifically forbids it, I’d recommend following that recommendation just to save the hassle of having to tell them what you did lol. And I agree that if you chose not to drink then it shouldn’t be a problem. If you need to lol like you’re drinking you can always have the bartender mix up a cranberry and water cocktail or similar mixed drink minus the alcohol. If you chose to drink, you can nurse a glass of wine for an hour or more at a time and ask the bartender to pour you a weak cocktail, should you desire you a mixed drink. Bartenders are like hairdressers, they’re good at keeping secrets 😉 -
June 2022 surgery buddies

Hi, Emily: My pre-procedure experience sounds similar to yours. I, however, had to do an echocardiogram stress test and I had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment for that. I did an at-home sleep study, and then somehow something ran off the rails. A CPAP machine was supposed to be ordered for me and a couple of weeks elapsed before that slip-up was discovered. My surgeon's admin told me on Tuesday that Cigna takes about 2 weeks to go through an insurance submission. Apparently, the practice I am using has an Insurance Coordinator who goes through everything in my file to be certain that CIGNA gets every piece of paper required. I'm just waiting now. Good luck to you. -
I'm self pay and doing my procedure in Mexico. The physician once approved had the coordinator send over all available dates. I would have been able to do this last month or this month at the time of my approval, but my mom decided she also wanted to do the procedure at the same time. Her clearance was more involved as she had to have an EKG which led to needing to see a cardiologist who said she was fine but wanted her to have an echo done to be certain. SO...after having months of delay, by the time we were both approved, the soonest available was June 15. My oldest daughter(14) happens to be out of town that week, so we pushed it back to the following week, so she could be around to help with the youngest(3) while I was out of the country.

RaisnHL- I had to complete my 6 months of medically supervised dieting with a dietician, psych eval, EDG, blood work and pre-op clearance from my PCP before they scheduled my surgery date. I was told it typically takes 6 weeks for insurance authorization so they tentatively schedule you 6 weeks out. I also had have a phone call with a financial coordinator to discuss the cost and payment of the surgery.
