Omg!!! I'm so happy to read this! I also had a lot of issues with the band and had it removed. I'm a week away of RNY and I'm terrified! I'm worried about long-term unhealthy affects. Such as looker older, hair loss, malnutrition. Have you had any of these to the degree that you regretted going forward? Im getting cold feet Sent from my SGH-T999L using the BariatricPal App

I've been at a stall for about 2 weeks now and I'm only 3 months out. I just had my 3 month check up yesterday & talked to the dr and was just told it happens..that's it. Not real enthused with their answer :/

It seems to be most common for the first week. If it continues beyond that, you can ask your doc. (even a couple weeks might be ok. The body often responds to trauma with an increase in temperature to ward off any buggies. It doesn't mean that infection has started. If infection does start, that's what those higher temperatures are about). Temperature is just one piece of the puzzle, always monitor how you feel as well. After day 4, you should feel a little better each day. If you suddenly feel worse, that is cause for a call to the doctor. I'm sure you'll be perfect! No worries!

Whoo... Apply the brakes and "Step Away" from the sugar free taffy!
T'snewstart posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi folks its confession time! I have really been enjoying sugar free taffy. It was nice to have a "treat" after all I deserve one right!? I am doing well so far! At least that is what my internal conversation has been. Well the result of my one piece of taffy that lead to serval pieces a day is.... I hit a stall. As I began to rethink my past week.... I asked myself what have I done differently? It was the taffy... Then I thought huh... I wonder how many calories are in taffy.... Was I surprised 35 calories per piece OMG I had consumed many calories just in taffy. Whoops! I need to watch out for hidden calories! Am I saying I will never have sugar free taffy again. No way... I will... However, I will be more cautious with my calorie intake... No matter how small the food item I am consuming! Anyone else experience something like this??? -
Did anyone have lower stomach pain?
LillyRose76 replied to The long walk home's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes...it wasn't a pain that was always there. It was usually aggrivated when I twisted to my left or stood up after sitting for while. Getting in and out of a car was the worst. Its a sharp stabbing pain, but I couldn't really pinpoint where it stemed from. It's was in between two of my left side incisions. It started going away about a week ago. I'm 20 days post op. The pain is not as pronounced now. It feels like something that is healing. -

PCOS, Sodium, and losing weight slowly
Aggiemae replied to angriggs86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PCOS doesn't slow down weight loss. And 39 pounds in 10 weeks it a lot! You weight goes up and down all the time. If you are following your prescribed food plan you are losing FAT no matter what the scale says. Maybe you can stop weighing yourself every day? Some weeks you might not lose any weight. That is NORMAL. I eat 25 grams of carbs, 90-110 grams of Protein, and as little sugar as possible (just what's in the 8oz of 1% milk I drink a few times a week). I add Fiber ( ground flax seeds) to my Protein shakes, you can also add Benifiber (it's clear and has no flavor) but drink the shake right away of it gets weird. I feel fuller for longer if I add some fiber to the shakes. I don't pay any attention to sodium, but I also don't eat packaged or canned food. Watch out for alcohol sugar (it's often in candy and protein bars) it will stall your weight loss no matter what the labels claim. In my opinion there is such a thing as too much zero calorie (100% chemical) sweeteners.Lots of studies fine that ithey increases hunger. I limit it to one or two packets a day. According to my PT I will get better results working out every second day. I alternate days walking (2miles) and toning/strength training . As for calories, what does your NUT/plan say? If you eat 90 grams of protein and 25grams of low calorie carbs you're eating about 600 calories a day. I eat about 800-900 because, strange as it seems, I wasn't losing much weight and was told by the NUT To increase my calories. Yes, it's normal to get a bit obsessed about your weight. I use a journal to keep track of everything I eat, how much Water I drink, my Vitamins, my blood sugars and exercise. How I explained it to a friend recently is that I have never spent so much time and effort on eating so little food. I want to add that I don't know how old you are, how much you weigh or how active you are. So...keep in mind that the things I do might not be the best for you. Please don't feel like people her are judgmental. -

crystal812 replied to iggs3113's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same way a week ago. I had surgery Tuesday and am doing really well. No pain or sickness so far. You have to do what you feel is right for you. No one can make that decision but you. Just remember everyone is different. I will pray for you and hope all goes well for you ???? -
Hello Everyone!!! Im 2 weeks away from surgery and all I've been hearing and reading is how gastric bypass is bad. I've heard that it makes u bald, you have long term complications, and that the surgery takes years off your life just the same as being overweight. My mind a mess. I've been so stressed since I've got my surgery date. Really thinking about not going through with the surgery. I don't know what to do. :-(

Stall, I am embracing....continuing to embrace
kanaud posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Still embracing....3 weeks later!! How is it possible that you can weigh exactly the same, I mean down to the decimal for 3 weeks in a row. I only weigh once a week and I'm trying not to fret. But if I get on the scale next week and it's exactly the same, I'm going to start to wonder! Maybe the new year will break the cycle!! -
4 weeks post-op troubles
RJ'S/beginning replied to melliratt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh....this is definitely a time to stop weighing yourself...You are going to drive yourself crazy...no doubt in my mind that it is Water retention that is still trying to flush out the stuff they gave you before during and after surgery. Your body went through a huge ordeal and it will deal with it as it sees fit.. When you have major surgery which this was your body works to heal and fix what has happened to it...adjust! When your body feels threatened by weight loss it will stop losing and store fat in your cells for later. Once your body heals and decides it is still being fed it will lose weight again... Stop weighing yourself every day....that is maddening....Hit the scale with a brick if you have to...Just weigh about once a week or once every 2 weeks or once a month or like me every 2 months or so...... The numbers are not the beginning and end all of this journey..It is for life and it will take time for everything to get back to so called normal..... -
Brushing your teeth and bad breath
LipstickLady replied to taylormarie421's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 10 weeks out and my ass breath has finally disappeared. It's ketosis, I believe and it causes a coppery smelling funk that won't go away. I used Listerine strips which covered the smell for the most part, but I swear, when I woke up in the morning, my room reeked of my breath. It was foul. This will pass, I promise. -

4 Weeks out and NO restriction = worry!!
Twinkles replied to NY Bandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At surgery, I had 2cc's. At 12 weeks, I had 1.5cc's. At about 24 weeks, I had 1cc. Then around 40 weeks, I had another 1cc put in, then about 8 weeks after that, had .25 removed. That was back in May and I haven't needed a fill or unfill since. You'll get there, frustrating for sure, but definitely worth it. -
I am down 7.2 lbs since surgery. It isn't a whole lot by comparison to others but isn't that point? I should not compare myself to others. My weightloss is just that, MY WEIGHTLOSS. That doesn't include the 5 lbs I gained from swelling after surgery. I lost that 5 lbs of fluid(that counts right?) and then 7.2 lbs after that. Not too bad considering I am not on a liquid diet. I only had clear fluids 2 days and surgery day was considered day 1. Each day I add more foods as I tolerate them. I am down a total of 25. 5 lbs since March 25th. This is the most weight I have lost in years. I am amazed at how well I am doing and I don't feel deprived really. I still miss my mac and cheese but I suppose I will one day get over that. I had breakfast casserole this morning. It was very tasty. It's funny how the little things are so much better now. I made it myself and it took a few minutes but tasted so good. I made ham salad that is wonderful and a change for lunch. I am not a tuna fan or any seafood for that matter. I think chicken, ham and egg salads will be my staples. It's best when you can make things yourself because you can control what goes into it but in reality since we are eating such small portions most foods are well within guidelines. Ok, has anyone else noticed that your tastebuds aren't the same? I LOVE to put lots and lots of pepper on my food. I never use salt. I have realized that now I am super sensitive to pepper in my food. I made egg salad and put a very small amount on my food. I mean very little and it still seemed to overpower the dish. I actually was coughing as if I had poured a cup of pepper on it. Very weird. I have to say I am so glad I found this site. I feel I have so much support and help on here and hopefully I can pass what I have gotten onto to someone else just joining us. Thanks to everyone I have met along the way and will continue to meet. Each one of you have touched my life in a way that is changing my life. At a time when I wasn't sure if this was the right decision I was reminded how successful I could be. Now that I am banded I know that no matter what I can get the help or encouragement I need right here.

4 Weeks out and NO restriction = worry!!
Twinkles replied to NY Bandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm assuming, being 4 weeks out, you haven't had your first fill yet. If that is the case, then you have no reason to worry. There is no Fluid in your band, so restriction would be minimal, if any at all. You do know that you will need fills, right, in order to reach that "green zone"? For me, it was about 4 fills, I've got around 5.25cc's in my 10cc band. Your body is still healing, don't burden it by eating more than you should. If you need more, try Protein shakes or drinks. Bandster hell, is that period between surgery and your first fill, where you are starving. My Dr does things a little bit differently and I had a fill DURING surgery and didn't need a second until 12 weeks post op. Relax and let yourself heal. -
Ninja Ultima, Ninja Mega Kitchen or NurtiBullet?
erlo54 replied to erlo54's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Might be good advice, par1959. I probably won't buy until I'm Post-Op anyway and would probably use it only with fresh vegetables and fruits after having to use Protein supplements during the first few weeks. Thanks for the advice. -

Thank you everyone! It was good to hear that this is pretty normal. I've put away my scale and vowed not to use it until my 2 week follow up with my surgeon.
