So, It's a year later...
silvers320 replied to DanBar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well.. I am about 2 months short of the year mark but I am going to answer anyway. Things rarely get stuck for me. When they do, it has been my own fault. I have eaten too fast or taken too big of a bite. I usually know it the moment it happens. Thankfully in 10 months I think its happened total of about 10 times - so that's not so bad. There is a lot of thought about what to eat and I struggled with that. I planned every meal for months and then I said "I cant live like this" and I tried not planning. And you know what - it was worse. I know like to think I am somewhere in the middle. I plan, and surround myself with good choices but if something come up - it does. Eating the same things: I go in phases - so weeks I am on a taco kick some weeks its yogurt. But I dont think that would be any different with or without the band. I will say that I eat things now that I wouldn't have touch pre-band. I dont know why but I do. I was worried about my love of good food. But honestly, our love as grown deeper as I have slowed down to actually taste what I am eating. Does it get easier? After 30+ years of dieting and failure this feels like a piece of cake ..... dark choc with fudge ....and ice cream (kidding) The biggest changes are the mental- by far. But with time - greatness. At this rate, I should reach greatness about a week after I die! -
Just received the great news i was approved by Aetna PPO for lap band surgery on May 18th 2009! I did the three month program through Columbia/St. Mary's /Dr. Regan. I was afraid of my final weigh in since i had gained all the weight i had lost for the first two months back. But, i pressed in and did a protein diet/exercise for the last ten days and dropped all that weight plus another 3 pounds!!! The approval went through in 2 days!! I am very happy, since i was fearing that it would take a couple of weeks and i had heard conflicting stories about Aetna... The staff at St. Mary's/Columbia really know how to coordinate and get approval, i would recommend them to anyone in my area. They called and left a message right away to let me know as well. :tt2:

Hey There! I am early in the lap band process as well, and have Tufts heath plan. I totally understand your confusion about their program since there is little to no info out there on it, untill you are actually enrolled. icanchange is a 6 month program which must be completed before you will be covered for surgery. It consists of 8 phone calls with a consultant, durring which you make goals related to lifestyle changes, etc. and discuss diferent issues and hurdles. To get enrolled your doctor needs to send a letter to tufts pre-enrollment, stating why you shold be enrolled in the program (WT, comorbidities, etc.) Once approved you will get a letter of acceptance, and a call from your consultant to schedule your first call. For me, this happeded about a week or 2 after my doctors office sent in the letter.) I am currently 1 call into the program, with my second call scheduled for tomorrow evening. If all goes on schedule I should complete the program mid may. My suggestion would be to speak with your doctor as soon as possible to get the ball rolling- The program date will not officially start untill the day of your first official call. Good luck! And it may take a while, but the summer WILL get here, and our time WILL come!! ~Shel

valdostaGA replied to Prairiegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I forgot to add that during that 4 week stall i didn't lose much weight but lost 16 inches overall body inches that is! So do check your measurements and don't weigh too often. Sent from my iPhone using VST -
My doc said I could have coffee (not decaff), started at about 6 weeks and usually have at least a cup or two a week.

Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum and would love some input into the concerns I have which pertain to my weight loss/progress. So I am 28 weeks post-op as of tomorrow and I feel as though my weight loss is a little slow. So far I have lost 4 stone and 8lbs (64 pounds) but I am struggling to hit the five stone mark. On Facebook, I am part of a group that has new and post-op patients from the clinic that I did my surgery with but everyone’s progress seems to be much better than mine. I am 24, 5ft 4 and my starting weight was 21 stone. I am grateful to be currently 16 stone 13lbs but I feel as though I should be loosing more. Am I worrying too much, or would you all agree with me? All replied appreciated 😊

11 Days Out And A New Pain?
lady lisa replied to Ijam75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same exact thing shortly after surgery. It lasted about 6 weeks, and yes my doctor said muscle and nerve endings. I am 2 months post op and am still pretty numb on the left side of my navel. Of course, if you are concerned you should call your surgeons office. -
I am now in a stall. I got down to 195.2 and have been going back and forth between 197.8 and 195.2 for about a week and a half now. I know that that is natural but it's still discouraging. I was sleeved on 9/26 (15 weeks, 3 days ago) and I have lost 45 lbs now if you count 195.2 as my weight. I need to lose 65 more pounds to make my goal so I'm almost half way there.

Still in pre-op and have my psych evaluation next week. I'm afraid I may say something that wouldn't qualify me. Dos anyone have any tips of things to not say? Perhaps some sample questions? I appreciate the help! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Will the band stop ALL hunger?
pottergirl replied to lingling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
CONGRATULATIONS ON REACHING YOUR GOAL!!! What an accomplishment...some days I have to come on here just to read that other people are really losing weight, because I'm in a 2 week slump no matter how much I work out, I haven't lost...I know it will happen...I just don't have much patience -
I am one month out today it really amazes me how fast time flys by, I am only 4 pounds away from my half way goal which I am sure I will make by next week. I truly contribute being this far to my nut's pre op diet on which I lost 30 pounds. I really do recomend putting your self on a pre op diet even if your surgen and Nut do not require one, it really does help with getting your self ready for the change in diet post op and it puts you that much closer to goal for after surgey. Good luck to all who are considering VSG and to all who have all redady joined the loosers bench! You have all been such wonderfull inspiration to me

one month surgervrsery
twoboysandagirl replied to laylasmojo's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Tomorrow I am two weeks out. My surgeon requires a two day pre op diet of liquids only but I also had to loose ten % of excess weight before they would make a date. I have lost that and trying to lose a little more. Curious what was your two week diet? I am kind of doing a low carb/sugar, low fat, high protein diet. Some days I have just done protien shakes for morning or lunch and just a regular dinner. Congrats on your success! Your doing Great! -
Rheumatoid arthritis
Djmohr replied to meantforsunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@meantforsunshine Hi There, Congratulations on having your surgery. So sorry that you now have this crappy diagnosis. I have Psoriatic Arthritis and my mother had Rheumatoid arthritis. Recently I started showing signs of Rheumatoid as well and I was tested for it when I was tested for Psoriatic and the tests were negative. Not sure what the Paddison program is but I will tell you this. I have to limit my Protein because of kidney issues caused by years of medications for my arthritis and being overweight. I have a strict no more than 65 grams of protein per day or it taxes my kidneys. I eat a diet mainly of meat, veggies and fruit. I have noticed that my Psoriatic Arthritis has improved so much since my 152lb weight loss. My disease has been in remission and the only time it seems to kick up now is when they put me on oral or IV steroids so I avoid them unless it is life threatening which has not happened since 9 months post op. In fact, I spoke with my doctor on tuesday and we have been weaning me off of cyclosporine which is a immuno suppressant and are even lowering my dose of Stelar which i get every 10 weeks now. It used to be 8 weeks and double the dose. There is even talk of removing me from it completely at some point. So, I tell you all this because both my rheumatologist and my dermatologist are amazed at the transformation this surgery has done for my health. I suffered with Psoriatic Arthritis which is auto immune my whole adult life. I remember the onset began when the weight started piling in in my mid 20's. Obviously with RA, the goal is always to get you on a biologic that stops the progression and the same is true of Psoriatic arthritis so i am nervous about taking me off of the thing that gave me my life back. Anyway.....the diet you are speaking of meats, veggies and fruits are exactly what got me to the point that I am at. I did not have to pay for a special diet as this really is what the bariatric diet is centered around. Not sure if this helps but it has been my personal experience and I could not be happier. -

Realistically how much weight do you expect to loose?
gingerjane replied to Grammy271's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sadly - I don't remember. I do remember talking about how it's a tool and not a magic pill or button that will make the weight disappear. Truthfully - if you say 1-2 lbs a week, you should be safe. That's a safe amount of weight to lose and a realistic amount. Sure, you'll lose more in the beginning but as I'm slowly finding out, it does taper off. But, it's worth it. WORTH EVERY PENNY AND POUND. :wink2: -
March 11th!(:
dixiejuju replied to aylalinngren1026's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also afraid they will cut me open and my liver won't be shrink enough. My surgery is Tuesday March 12th. I haven't 25 lbs since first seeing the surgeon. I had a 3 week pre op diet, did great, then my surgeon got the flu and my surgery was moved out 2 more weeks and I haven't done so great. Part of it was feeling depressed due to being rescheduled. I have maintained the weight loss but I am still scared I might have re-enlarged my liver. What does everyone think? Some post say they didn't even have to do a pre op diet. -
You will be able to walk immediately. Walking helps your abdomen knit itself back together, but I would highly suggest keeping it to walking for the first couple of weeks. Too much up and down jarring is uncomfortable. Swimming you will need to hold off on until your incisions are completely healed. I think our practice said 4 weeks, so you'll want to check with your doctor. I started running at 4 weeks post op, and that seemed to be just right for my body. You should check out the Fitness&Exercise board, you have to scroll down a ways to get there! Lot's of sporty types there.

@@brather eggs have been really hard for me since my surgery and I used to eat eggs several times a week. I'm 4 months out now and I can have one poached egg every couple of weeks, but that's all. Sorry, but it's not all that uncommon
-
yes it can. I'm surprised your doctor allowed you to swim, or even go into the pool after just a couple of weeks post-op. My doctor told me six weeks before I could get in the Water. I agree with the other posters that you should probably follow up with your doctor just to make sure everything is OK.
-
Wait six weeks ro return to normal on all fronts was the rule for me

I just had mines done last monday and so far the biggest thing to your weight loss should be your protein and water. Try the weight loss raw protein at whole foods and follow the protein diet for 2 weeks and i guarantee you will get results.

First Week Po- Some Discomfort...
MeredithMcFee replied to MeredithMcFee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bev712: Gotta love your sense of humor. I opted out of going to my sister's superbowl party just for this reason, and I'm ok with it. I was never a football sports fan, I always went for the food and the wives' commaradirie for the most part. I know it's a silly decision as we can't allow food to control our lives like we've had in the past however, being a week out of surgery, I'm going to sit this party out and root for the NYG on my couch with my DH and my pureed foods and protein drinks. This way, I will truly be able to enjoy the game without any food obsessions in my way. That's a good thing. Hope your team wins!
