Ok first off thank you for the "help". I get it no potatoes! And it's not that I don't like meat,I love meat actually, but I get sick every time I try to eat it. And if you would read my last post I don't like the cottage cheese, yogurt,or the shrimp. I get sick any time I eat ANY type of meat, nuts, seeds, or anything like that. So thank you for your advice. I'm really thinking about deleting this app! This is my first post and I'm getting criticized not the support and advice I thought I would be getting. I can take the tough love, but that's not what I'm getting.

Recently, I was reading the back of a Special K® Protein cereal box and saw a statement that lack of sleep can increase the feeling of hunger by 25 percent. Since I’m in a profession that is science based, I did some research on the National Library of Medicine website to verify this. I didn’t find the study that supported detailed that 25 percent increase in hunger when you don’t sleep enough. However, there were several areas where researchers are linking poor sleep and weight gain. If you are tired, you usually don’t feel like exercising. You move less, so you burn fewer calories. Being tired makes you more likely to choose a food like cake instead of salad. There were a couple of studies that did find an increase in ghrelin after poor sleep. Ghrelin is the gut hormone that makes you hungry. Sounds like the perfect storm for weight gain, right? You produce less ghrelin after surgery, which leads to less food intake. Part of weight loss after surgery is that you produce less ghrelin, which leads to less food intake. If eating more healthfully is a challenge for you, it may be that you need to start with better sleeping habits. By the way, that Special K protein cereal is a great add-in to light Greek yogurt. This is a great snack before surgery and about two months after surgery. Happy Zzzz’s!

I saw potatoes and cereal and I was kinda shocked. I'm still pre op and surgery in 8 days but the biggest thing I keep hearing is PROTEIN first. And ZERO potatoes. Now I'm from the Midwest so meat and potatoes has been my basic "diet" for years and years - it's how I got to 350 plus pounds to be quite honest. There is no way any of us can lose substantial weight eating a diet to starchy carbs and low protein. As harsh is this may be to hear, why did you get the surgery if you didn't like meat? I'm not being sarcastic but if I wasn't going to give up candy I certainly wouldn't let anyone surgically cut me up when the deal was give it up. Toss the cereal and potatoes, replace them with almonds and sunflower seeds, cottage cheese, Swiss cheese, tuna salad, tilapia, shrimp, crab (real not fake), turkey, chicken, beef, yogurt (Greek), etc but ZERO potatoes and cereal. We are all given a "tool" with this surgery and although this tool can tip the scale into our favor and give us better odds of being smaller and healthier - we ultimately need to take responsibility and stop the insanity "always do what you've always done and you will always get what you've always gotten" Best of luck, I know you can get on track - that's why we are here. I feel fortunate that the facility I will be having my surgery seems to have an awesome approach to pre op and post op support, not to mention I was just told both surgeons are in every surgery they do. I felt safer somehow when I was told that. No potatoes.

I out some in plain yogurt the other day with a little protein powder and some sugar free chocolate Torani syrup. It was pretty good! Otherwise yes I use it in my shakes occasionally. It's pretty strong. A little goes a long way

Thank you so much Djmohr! You were so helpful! As for the different proteins I do not like beans, yogurt, and cottage cheese. nuts and seeds bother my stomach. My main protein source are my protein shakes. I'm going to talk to my personal trainer today and see if we can mix it up. :-) thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it!

@@glo61 i just broke a 28 day stall this morning. It is my second large stall since I had my surgery last Sept. This one was tough to break. The first stall I hit was about a month post op. At the time I was working out 1 hour a day doing cardio. I was only able to get in about 600 - 800 calories but was barely hitting my Protein goal. I was told by both my nut and physical trainer to change my routine. My body had gotten used to it. I was told to try working out every other day for 30 min instead of the hour. I was told to increase my protein a bit as well. Within 4 days of changing up my routine the weight started coming off rapidly again. I will tell you that eating potatoes, salad and cereal as your main meals will not help you long term. You MUST hit your protein goals every day and limit yourselflf to good carbs. Salads, vegetables, fruit. If you don't do well with meat, try Beans, cheese, nuts &seeds along with eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese and protein shakes. 1 gram of protein for every inch you are tall minimum. Try some yogurt with high protein granola for Breakfast or cottage cheese. I am not a huge meat eater myself but I do eat some. As time goes by, you will find the things you are now eating will not control your hunger when it comes back and you will find yourself eating more of it or more often causing grazing. Grazing is what causes people to gain their weight back. Carbs cause you to be more hungry. This is what I have experienced in my 10 months post op along with a ton of research from doctors, nuts and people who live with WLS everyday. If you change your routine and increase your protein you will break the stall. Also, that darn scale will fluctuate all day long every day. Don't let it consume you. With my latest stall I actually avoided it for a while because it was making me a bit down on myself. I am a person who usually weighs daily and usually the fluctuations don't bother me but 28 days was a very big stall for me. Good luck to you!

I just had a revision 6 weeks ago. I had a stricture and had it ballooned and was able to eat soft foods. The esophagus is closing up again And will have to have the procedure done again. This maybe what you are experiencing. I am still eating yogurt and cream soups and that is getting old real fast!!

Drinking more liquids than I was told I could on day 5 post op
VLA525 replied to Karen Crawford Wright's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am day 3 Post op and I too can drink all that I want without pain. I do sip pretty frequently. Also, this morning I was able to eat thinned greek yogurt for Breakfast. I probably should have measured, but I ate the entire 5.3 oz container in the course of an hour. For lunch, I had butternut squash Soup, about 1/3 cup, then for dinner 4 T of Broccoli Soup. Also sipped on Protein shake in between. I suppose I was so worried about dehydration and feeling weak from lack of protein that I remained focused and intent. Hopefully I'm not doing anything to hurt myself! But just to be safe, tomorrow I will measure everything... can't be too careful! -
Pureed foods, really?
BLERDgirl replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't eat meat so I was just eating a lot of cheesy eggs, smashed beans, yogurt and cottage cheese in addition to protein shakes. It was only 2 weeks and it was a heck of a lot better than the all liquid phase so I had no complaints. -
@@joatsaint, like the meme! I'm not sure if I'm in a rut. I'm just not connecting to food at all right now. I can't think of things I actually want to eat right now. I'm definitely in the low-fat Greek yogurt and fruit for breakfast rut, though.

I am being sleeved in a few days. I've been on the pre op diet which is going OK. I am curious about the post op diet though. I am supposed to be on pureed foods (or liquids) for 4 weeks, with the exception of the first couple days which are Clear liquids. My question is did anyone really eat and enjoy the pureed foods? The sample recipes they have given me (normal foods such as eggs, chicken, Beans, tuna, veggies (but all pureed) do not sound very appealing. And baby food (another suggestion) I can't imagine eating. I was thinking of just doing the Protein shakes, greek yogurt, Soups, for those four weeks. What were other people's experiences during the first few weeks of post op diet before going on regular foods?

Do you eat Yogurt? What brand? What sort of toppings do you add to it?
Alex Brecher replied to scarletwitch19's topic in Food and Nutrition
Yogurt has natural sugars, but the Greek ones are lower in sugar. Ralphs (west coast) and Kroger (Midwest) have a low-carb yogurt that’s low in sugar. If you’re not against sugar substitutes, artificially flavored yogurt is a good way to go. Some have been mentioned on this thread. Cinnamon helps, too. So does cocoa powder if you like chocolate. Also, I’ve found that changing my attitude helps. I was brought up to think of yogurt as sweet – my favorite used to be the fruit-on-bottom apple-cinnamon kind – a ton of sugar! Now I tell myself that yogurt is not supposed to be dessert, and changing my expectations actually helps – I look forward to the lack of sweetness now and enjoy the plain types. -
Protein shakes and Greek Yogurt. My kids five me a hard time because I literally panic when I am down to 3-4 yogurts in the fridge (my husband also eats one daily so that's only two day worth tops, maybe one!) I literally have a whole shelf in my fridge devoted to it. Deli meat (Butterball think sliced turkey) and cheese (sargentos ultra thin cut sharp cheddar) too. A slice of turkey rolled around half a slice of cheese. I do vary the type of mustard and on occasion opt for the Swiss cheese. There is a tupperware box of these in my fridge at all times!

Surgery Oct 27 2014- Months with no Wight Loss.

Most fruits are high in carbs. Maybe try cutting back on the fruit and add more veggies and protein. Also check the carbs and sugar in your yogurt. -
Post Op day 5! Is this stuff normal?
Vad1988 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I had VSG on 7-14 so that makes today post-op day 5. Down 20 lbs since pre-op diet I have been feeling so much better then I ever expected, until today. Today has been a little different. The last few times I've stood up I've felt very light headed and like I may pass out. And I have a very strange pain/pressure about 4 inches below my stomach incision. It hurts to sit up straight. Maybe it's gas? Also, I haven't had a bowel movement in almost a week. I took softeners Friday and MiraLax yesterday and still nothing. Any advice? Sorry I know TMI but everyone has been here lol. I've had Greek yogurt, soup, pudding, jello, ect. -

Yes I keep a food diary. I don't even eat that much. Either Great Value - Light Greek Nonfat Yogurt vanilla or Yoplait - 100 Calorie Greek for Breakfast. Then 30 min later I have Sheetz - Decaf House Blend with Gene Pro - Genetic Tri Protein Peptide powder. For lunch I will eat 1 cup lettuce, Bolthouse Farms - Classic Ranch Yogurt Dressing. I either put Solid White Albacore Tuna or Fat Free Turkey Breast. only 3 oz which I finish. I all ways have Cuties - Clementines. For dinner I use chicken in the salad. I have watermelon. I also have some grapes in the evening. Once a week for dinner I will have Cod. -
Here are some things I eat at least 5 days a week: Breakfast - GNC Lean 25 Protein shake (Swiss Chocolate) and skinny latte (half coffee, half skim milk) Snack - Dannon Oikos Greek non-fat vanilla yogurt (5.3 ounce container) Snack - Red Delicious apple Snack - 1 glass skim milk I also eat a lot of grilled chicken, grilled salmon, grilled zucchini (getting the theme?).

The weight loss surgery diet is pretty structured. Your choices are so limited on the liquid diet (a little chicken broth, anyone? Oh, no thanks, maybe I’ll go with beef broth instead for lunch today!) and on the pureed foods diet. Even once you get to semi-solid and solid foods, you don’t have much flexibility since you need to eat your Protein first, your veggies next, and there’s not much room left after that. So it makes sense that once you find a meal pattern that works, and meals you like, that you stick to them. Soon, it becomes a habit, and maybe a rut. For me, I’m perfectly happy eating Greek yogurt with blueberries every day for Breakfast. Some chicken breast with broccoli makes an easy dinner. A tuna salad makes a quick lunch. For snack? Apples seem to come up quite a bit! So, I guess you could say I’m in a bit of a food rut. Between lack of time, lack of desire to cook (you could call it laziness, I suppose), and the fact that it basically works and I’m happy with it, I eat pretty much the same things day in and day out. What are some of your food ruts – either your favorite meals or your regular daily menus? Or are you a little more motivated or more of a foodie, and you switch up your foods all the time?

I use Genepro protein powder. 1 scoop is 30 Gm of protein. It can be mixed in hot or cold so every morning I have a decaf coffee and stir in half a scoop of the Genepro, 15 Gm of protein with just my coffee! Sometimes I eat a protein bar, Life Choice from walmart, 170 cal, 18 Gm protein. This works great when I'm on the run. 33 Gm of protein total with my coffee! Other times I have a Dannon Greek yogurt and mix in half a scoop of the Genepro for 27 Gm of protein for a total (with coffee) 42 Gm of protein!! Genepro has no flavor and mixes in great with hot or cold.

At 7 weeks your body is still healing. Your band isn't providing restriction yet so unfortunately it all falls on your choices right now. If your doc has u on solids already try more protein at lunch. I would be starving if I just had a yogurt. I usually need a 3:00 snack of some kind Try not to go over 4 hours without some sort of protein..maybe this will help the starvation monster until you get restriction.....plan, plan, plan. Everything you will eat that dat including snacks...that helps me. Chin up You can do this!! -
Snacks or no snacks, I'm confused
VSGAnn2014 replied to quiltermom65's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The big prohibition is against "grazing." That means nibbling pretty much all day long, whenever slider foods sing your name from the refrigerator, the kitchen cabinet or the candy jar on Suzie's desk. Grazing isn't even close to a mid-afternoon snack of Greek yogurt (with 12 grams of protein) when dinner is still four hours away.
