  1. I wouldn't have gotten so mad had he not just finished saying he needed to eat healthy and lose weight... I'm not thrilled when he orders pizza and I have to smell it but the comment is what set me on fire. He also complains about how much my protein powder costs... $20 a tub, but one tub makes me breakfast for almost a month. I've pointed that out before but it makes no difference. Then he'll spend $20 on one pizza for one meal and think nothing of it. I'm just angry with the double standard I guess. If you're going to complain about your gut and say you need to lose weight don't instantly follow it with a whole pizza. I also feel like I'm the only one doing my part in our agreement. WE decided for me to have this surgery... I NEVER would have done it if he hadn't thought it was the best thing, because he wants another child or two and wouldn't even think of trying at my current weight due to the risks. He didn't make me have the surgery, but he nudged me toward it. I'm glad he did. But he was supposed to be eating healthier and watching his cholesterol and doing what he needed to do too and he's not and I kind of feel like I was tricked into the whole thing when he does what he did. Again, I'm glad I had this surgery, but I went into it with him telling me he was going to be right with me and we were going to get healthy and lose weight together. Now I'm doing all of the work and watching him eat eat eat. I'm just frustrated...
  2. My Husband was supportive prior to surgery. Post-op he has been an ass. One minute he's nice the next...not so much. My BF suggested he may be jealous and insecure of my surgery/weight loss. Anything is possible....I just know if he keeps this up he will become a single man.
  3. As a rule, no. The lower the BMI, the slower the weight loss. Don't let that discourage you. Slow and steady wins the race.

Your welcome gailkindo You will do just great.. it's all so scary before than poof it's all over with and your saying to yourself what was I so afraid. Look at the number of people on this blog. We all have gone through the same thing and come out better for it. Unfortunately we were all given the short end of the stick... our weight issues. However we all have also made firm decisions to fight the challenges we have been given. It's a new life and a new you... go forth and be healthy !
  6. If the band was removed, you don't want to gain back all you've lost. The sleeve will certainly help you to maintain and control regain in the future. I expect you will lose some after the surgery, but adjusting your routines to maintain a desirable weight should not be that difficult. OK, time to throw in the disclaimer........"Of course, you need to discuss your concerns with your surgeon"
  7. At this point you are soooo early in with your sleeve, I would get rid of the scale. Seriously. What is it going to tell you? You are still healing. Your body is going to be retaining fluids ... letting them go ... retaining again ... it is in a very confused state. If you get on tomorrow and it is higher, what does that mean? That you actually gained fat? REALLY? How many calories are you eating in a day ... and you think you are going to gain fat? Sorry ... I don't think so. What does it mean if you drop a pound or two? Did you really lose fat? Are those two pounds going to come back again? What if they do? Do you see my point here? You could spin your head around this so bad you won't know which way is up. And for what good? Think about it ... you just had 85% of your stomach removed. Do yourself a favor and focus on doing the right thing with your eating and drinking. The scale WILL take care of itself.

    Starting To Panic...

6cc in my 10cc band was also nothing...I got good restriction around 7 I think and then lost it twice as I lost weight. The last fill was 0.3cc only but it kicked off the last 15 pounds!
  9. Starting preop-diet weight was 195 & I've only got 3 more days to go...I've only lost 5 lbs! My surgery is scheduled for May 31st! My preop diet consist of two protein shakes &a portion of protein (meat) with two veggies as sides. I can also have healthy snacks like sugar free jello or greek yogurt. I'm doing what I'm suppose to but I'm not losing weight like everyone else has posted & its stressing me out! I've always been a dieter who loses slowly but the pressure is on to shrink my liver! I don't want my surgery delayed bc of this! So if ur stats are similar to mine can u pls share how much u lost on the preop diet or if u aren't having the success that everyone else is posting I'd love to hear from you so i know im not alone

Weight control oatmeal packets have 7g protein and if made with milk it's 11g. Only 160 calories and 200 with milk, plus I think 5 or 6g of fiber. Worth it for me. They're yummy too. I get sick of eggs in the morning you know:)
  13. I had RNY gastric bypass in august 2020. It’s true what they say, that wls is just a tool and you’re still going to have to work hard to get to your goals! But I’m super surprised that my hunger levels don’t seem to have changed very much. I feel hungry every couple hours, when I was hoping to be one of those people who didn’t think about food very often. My weight loss has slowed because of this, so I’m wondering if anyone else experienced this and has any tips. Thanks!
  14. I'd boxed up a bunch of mine a year ago after initially losing weight. They'd been in my closet gathering dust... then Saturday, we hauled them down to my car along with some of my son's outgrown clothes and I delivered them to an evacuees shelter in downtown Atlanta. Sometimes, procrastination pays! I'm going to clean my closet again.

    Help Out Of Stall

Congratulations! You have reached "The Dreaded Week-3 Stall". It's perfectly normal and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or more. But don't worry -- after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. If you're interested, here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight like crazy!
  16. It is really an individual thing. It may help that you are starting at a lower weight. I had surgery Thursday afternoon and was really sick from the anesthesia Thurs. and Fri. I went home on Saturday and started feeling more like myself by Monday night or Tuesday. I remember that I was back sitting by the computer by Sunday. Best of luck to you. Make sure that they give you nausea medicine (an antiemetic), like Zofran, before you go under, and then routinely give it to you while you are there. The anesthesia stays in your body for a while. For me, the nausea was worse than the pain. Good luck.
  17. I am looking into getting Banded for the first time. I found out today that my insurance will not cover the surgery so I am looking into pricing in different states. I am in NC. I hope to find lots of info here at this forum. At present I am at my highest weight of 265 and am 5'10. I am 40 years old and feel a lot older. Anyway, I look forward to reading thru the discussions.:smile2:
  18. Hey Lillynushoes Waving from Adelaide to Melbourne  Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm pleased it was a small thing and nothing serious for your husband while in CCU. (giggle at indigestion) As for your experience with the band GOSH it doesn't sound good. The only part I can relate to is the pain when eating a couple of mouthfulls. This only happens when I eat Jelly (the only sort of solid i'm eating at the moment) I can manage about 3-4 spoons then I have to stop casue it hurts, but differently from you I feel full (I think) Sometimes its hard to know. I'm hoping as time goes on I will get a better feel for this. I would be depressed in your situation undoubtedly NO weight loss after 3 months and all that cost and suffering. Tell me has the Dr done an xray to see if the band slipped? I always say trust your feelings, in your case you felt the band had slipped. I would be getting hot onto the Dr in your case and demanding (nicely) answers or my money back. Good luck with your latest fill and weight loss. I guess we have some responsibility to be concious of what we put in our mouths also. I'm too scared to try anything other than solids, if jelly hurts, what is real food going to do? Sorry I don't have an answer re if the band has slipped or not. But my sincerest wishes for your future CHEERS

    Spilling the beans

I have only told 2 people in office at this point and like you there is a group of us who work closely and some of us eat together in the cafeteria everyday. The pre-op diet hasn't been bad, I have just been saying I am on a doctor supervised plan, with high Protein and I am telling them how much I lose each week. I haven't given them the opportunity to speculate about it. My surgery was originally going to be the 11th but the doctor wanted me to continue the pre-op for a few more weeks. The challenge for me is going to be returning to work while in week two full liquids. I can always bring yogurt or cream Soups or broth and they may not question it along with my already standard Protein shakes. I know it must be hard in such a small office but if they see you doing stuff pre-op with protein shakes and whatnot and you just come out and say you are on a diet supervised from your doctor, they may not think anything of it. I too said I was going on vacation and when I come back and continue to lose weight perhaps they won't be surprised since they knew I was trying and was losing beforehand. Your situation is definitely more complex because of the roommate. Stay positive and don't let it worry you. And if they do find out or you do decide to tell them, their opinion or comments don't matter. All that matters is you and you should be comfortable with your decision to do this. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about it.

  21. Hello everyone! I just recently found this site and what great information!! I contemplated band vs sleeve last year but then had to have 2 foot surgeries, so weight loss was put on the back burner. Here I am now, plus about 10 lbs, thinking about it again. I've already had a consult with one dr and going to another next week. I keep doubting myself though for some reason, maybe I can try to lose weight on my own (even though I've tried tons of times over the last 12 years!), maybe this is too drastic, etc. Obviously if we could all lose weight on our own, we would. So I'm thinking I'm just second guessing myself now? I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder about a year ago and now with the meds I'm on, my weight just keeps going up and no matter what do, I can't lose weight! Anyone have words of wisdom or encouragement? Of course I'm scared of the surgery itself and the pain and post op issues. But I'm hoping that I can get in the right frame of mind to convince myself that this is the right thing to do and stop second guessing myself! Be happy with my decision & look forward to a healthier life. Can someone help me get there? Is this a normal feeling at this stage? Thank you so much in advance!!

Scared? Why am I doubting myself?

You're doubting yourself because after years of failed attempts, this is what we do. We doubt, or in MY case, obsess about it working 'this time'. It will, when 85% of your tummy is removed, unless you make an effort at failing, you will lose weight!!! I promise you. All of us worry, I had surgery June 2010, I've been maintaining for over two years now and I STILL worry. For me, this has been easy. I had no health issues and was healthy, so I'm sure that helped, but pain was no big deal. After being discharge I only took pain meds before bed and only for ten days. I took liquid Tylenol and used a heating pad during the day!! Turning over in bed hurt, so the pain medication took the edge off. I can tell you, what did hurt is a sneeze, cough or if someone makes you laugh, that lasts for a week or so, but it is nothing really. I was excited from the moment I woke up in recovery. A new adventure, I've loved every minute of it. I'd read in a forum that a neat thing to do is go buy a disposable camera.....have someone take a picture of you the night before surgery or the morning of....then take a picture every month on your 'date' for a year. After you take the one on your 1 yr anniversary, go have the camera developed. There is NOTHING like laying out those pictures, side by side and seeing the transformation. It is truly amazing, do it!!! I too lost weight, I lost the same 50 lbs three times in 30 years and lesser amounts more times than I can remember. I did everything from Weight Watchers to Phen/Fen. I can LOSE weight, that is not the problem, in later years, not as easily though. It is keeping it off that is practically impossible. Once you go off the diet, then you gain. Now I am NOT on a diet. I feel like I eat like a naturally thin person. I'm still obsessed with food, with making good choices. I eat sweets and other things, but rather than over doing it, I have a normal piece of cake and it is not what I do real often. Life is good, it's a wild ride, and oh-so-fun!!!!

    Another surgery?

@wnusrt1 hey bud the answer to your question is yes!!! the most common reason for conversion is terrible/unbearable heartburn😣 you didn't mention if you have that problem? not pointing fingers, but have you totally been eating correctly? Portions esp. the sleeve only works with you, if you work with it. (saying this, and below with TLC) if you are getting the GB, thinking you might loose weight and keep it off/problem solved? not necessarily true you will loose the weight initially- but If you don't change your eating habits, you might gain again. eeeek Try and give the sleeve another chance - you might not have that much restriction now, but if you follow the rules of protein, water etc. you can't help but loose weight.☺️ do a liquid diet/protein shakes for awhile, this will give you a jump start in loosing more weight gradually go to soft - etc. i emphasize watch your portion sizes. i know my portion sizes were through the roof before sleeve (7+ years ago) lets meet for drinks, info - conversation, i'm buying, water of course😁 good luck☺️ kathy
  24. Yup, I had my gastric 13 yrs ago. I was really good about staying on track for about 2 yrs. Starting weight was 500lbs. Current weight 300lbs. Prior to WLS I was told I wouldn't be able to have anymore children. To my surprise, a year and a half later and down 100+ lbs. Positive pregnancy test. Unfortunately soon after I got so busy with life, I stopped going to my checkups and have since moved out of the city I lived in and lost track if the bariatric doctor. I need and want to get back on track. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

May 1st Banders...How did it go?

Had my surgery on Friday, May 1st and wasn't a bit nervous. Was all prepared by reading books (Kahlia Ali's was the best), reading Banster forums and just asking question at my clinic. I never felt so ready for anything in my life and I have to tell you that anyone I know or who I've read about on the net say it's the best thing they ever did! I was Scheduled at the clinic (not hospital) for 12, but taken at 1:00. Taken in...had an IV...a little oxygen and out like a lite....woke up and only felt the pain in the left shoulder from the gas. I was given a Gasx strip to melt in my mouth. My Husband was waiting and went home at 4:30. Just zipped on water until the morning when I had pain in the chest (which the doctor warned me) from him fixing my hiatal hernia. There was NO incision pain at all!. Got to walk around to release the gas. 2nd day I had apple juice in samll amounts, water, chicken soup and watered down protein drink to make sure all goes throught the band. I was never one to pamper myself, but forced myself to stay home all weekend and relax. A little discomfort at night cause you have to sleep on propped up pillow and sleep on your back otherwise you feel a little discomfort between your chest. I did take children's tylenol liquid for my chest pain, but never had (thank GOODNES) no nausea. Went out for dinner with my family and had chicken broth...you really don't care much about the food cause you've already put too much into the journey of the new you. Went home to rest have a shake and tomorrow is another day. Have lost 12 pounds on an 11 day preope and 3 pounds since surgery=15POUNDS....BEST THING I EVER DID! NEVER going to worry about gaining my weight back again. good luck and don't worry!
