What happens at your pre op appointment at your doctors office?
FitnFabfor2014 replied to beauty29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, at my appointment the surgeon went over my weight, BMI and we discussed the difference between the sleeve and bypass. It was pretty quick. His office staff then set up the psyc visits, nutritional class, dietian appnts, upper GI, lab appnts, endoscopy and weigh in's. Depending on ur insurance it could be a few months to a year. I have to wait 6 months . It's fine though. It gives me time to make sure I get the Protein shakes I like and start eating healthier. How long do you have to wait? Lots of questions and scared
paritam replied to paritam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all!!! I am mending, I WILL lose this darn weight, the band got me more than halfway to my gosl in 5 months so I am VERY thankful for that. The rest is on me and I WILL do it, just more slowly than if I had a band. I will keep posting!! -
Lots of questions and scared

Congratulations on your success and I wish you much more... The band is just a tool and you worked it... you lost so...much weight in so...little time that it is truly amazing. That success is attributed to you and your dedication. Keep up the good work! -
Ignorant people like your friend really annoy me. We can all loose weight with weightwatchers, healthy choices blah blah blah blah. You have worked just as hard as her and she should be proud of your loss as she is if her own loss. Like we all know we can loose the weight, every single diet out there works if you stick to it BUT once you come off of it, well we all know what happens. Did you point out to her that once she gets comfortable that it may all creep back on but your tool, if you continue using it as the tool your weight won't creep back on? Today is a perfect example for me, my daughter is in hospital, she had to have an operation to screw her big toe back together as she had an accident at gymnastics a few nights back and had a nasty break. I've been at the hospital most of last night and all day today. Hadn't eaten anything since the previous night as I wasn't hungry and have been silently stressed out. Tonight by five pm I was so hungry all I could think of was stuffing my face with junk food, I even went through all the junk drive ins in my head to see what I would get on the way home ( I'm obviously still wanting to turn to food as a comfort). The comfort urges were there but I drove past every single one of them, came home and made myself a healthy tuna salad and only ate half. The band kicked in for me when I needed it most. So let people spew out the words you all took the easy way out. Let us think, stuff you, you have no idea what you're talking about and give them a big I'm banded and proud smile!!!

It's a tool to lose but a life saver to maintain. I have lost hundreds of pounds over the years and gained it all back plus plus plus. This time is different. I am not physically able to eat like I used to so if I woke up tomorrow having forgotten everything I have made myself do in the past 23 months the band will quickly remind me!!

All docs have different regimens, check with yours at your post op. My doc cleared me for cardio, and I took that as going hard on my 9 day post op visit. I didn't actually start til 2 weeks post op. He told me to wait I think 2-3 more weeks to start lifting. I started a little earlier than he said since, I had to for work, I had to get a critical about 50 lb dog to the back quickly for treatment. But oh well. After that I started back on the weight machines at the gym, with no problems. I understand the cabin fever, I took a week off work post op, and I was feeling pretty good by day 4 and I was getting so bored at home. Especially since I live alone with my dogs, so no real human interaction...LOL. I even dug my car out of a foot of snow to go back to work that monday, because I was so bored. (probably should not have done that and I never told my doc I did, but 10 months post op, no damage done.)

So everyone's body is different which means it's going to process it differently. Some ppl take forever to get pregnant(years) or it can be the next month. As for me I was on it for 8 yrs and gained 10-15 lbs for every yr I was on it. It is also one of the reasons I have hell losing weight. I've been off the shot for 2 yrs now and still not pregnant. Although we decided to stop trying in jan when I started this journey. The only up side to the depo was no period Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using the BariatricPal App

I weighed 237 yesterday at the DR's office. For my height and bone structure my surgeon said that my ideal weight is 125 I have to weigh 250 to get approved by my insurance and we can not afford it otherwise. So, Do I pack on the 13lbs or do I pack up and go home and give up?

BG, Got home a little while ago, we went to the SD Padres VS. Chicago Cubs game, left in the bottom of the 8th. inning, Cubs 1, SD.0. Very boring game, only to turn on the news to see that the Pads won in the 9th. Yeah! then I wanted to check my email and saw your reply. Double Yeahs!! Thanks for your words of encouragement. If I remember correctly you are going to Scottsdale, AZ. My brother lives in Phoenix and its a warm time, but the desert is beautiful. My husband is taking our son over to Tucson Thurs. he starts his Sr. year at Univ. of AZ. Anyway,,,,,have a safe and fun vacation, you may surprise yourself and NOT gain that few lbs. but like you said, its a healthy and livable way. Sincerely, Barbara

Its Not an issue(its a goal),when you were at the weight where you werebefore the band the first thing we think about is hitting a goal,so when you start off small then you go big to see if you can get there, think about it like this(starting out with a 19 inch TV,and once you see what the 32 inch we want that, but after a whine it not big enough then you go for the 47 or the 55 inch, its like a little won't do why waste you time on the small stuff when you can go for the "gusto",the same with weight lost,if you make small goals then you reach them, why stop at just 10lbs when you can go for 20 or 30-once you reach your goal go for the next one,.......I'm sorry No one knows your body like you know your body, you will know when you have gone too far.......I say go for It,,,thats what I'm gonna do because if you feel its enough then its enough....Just take 1 day at a time,....good luck my friends........camille01

How exactly is being banded so much easier than losing without??
tmfritts replied to kaytiebugs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Playing tennis with a salmon! I love that!!! How true!! All of your comments were exactly right! I know I had unrealistic expectations as to how the band would work for me. I was hoping to be one of those people where the weight just falls off!! Not!! I guess if I was, I would not have needed banding! I wish they did put a band around my lips when they put the band in my stomach!! I know I have to take responsibility for what I eat and I need to get my butt out there and exercise - the band won't do that for me! Terri  Good luck to us all! -

I only did 3 months (3 times) of diet monitoring with my doctor and a corresponding 6 week nutrition class with a nutritionist. They call this the "multi-discipline" approach. My doctor sent in a letter with my family history, diet attempts and all weight history he had on me. The nutritionist sent in a letter with the exact diet I was on and all weekly weigh in's. Of course, I also sent them every personal weight history I could find in the past 5-6 years in a nice little spreadsheet with what kind of diet I was on for each date. Plus a copy of the CURVES diet and my whole CURVES exercise schedule for the 2006 year. It was probably over-kill, but it did the job and I didn't have to do the complete 6 months. Once my surgeons office got all the paperwork from my appointments and me, they submitted the whole file to the insurance company, as well as a "dummy" surgery date to push it through fast. My surgeons office called me 6 days later telling me I was approved. -
I usually don't respond to stall questions because they annoy me. But I realize that there are times when people just don't understand the process so I'm going to respond to your seemingly sincere question. A stall is weeks, not days. You didn't get overweight overnight and you won't lose it that way either. The number of calories consumed is for your information so you know not to overeat. Your body is responding to a sudden drop of likely hundreds if not thousands of calories. That means your body might be wanting to keep the weight on in case you are starving. The body only knows you are feeding it less so it is compensating. Don't go on the scale when you are in a stall. Look for the non scale victories. You will find many of them and they will help you during this frustrating time. Just so you know, I had to lose around 50 lbs. to go down 1 size in my clothing. Then I started to drop sizes sometimes in a matter of weeks and not by losing lots of pounds. The body reshapes and gets smaller at times even when the scale doesn't move. Especially if you are exercising. Just follow the doctor's instructions, stay compliant, and you will find success.

This is a pure baby whine-but this is the only place I can do it. Do you ever feel jealous of those who have so much less weight to lose. I look around the site at people's tickers and I say to myself-If I were that person I would be at goal-when the reality is that after losing 98 pounds I am barely halfway there--I know its trite and I should be grateful but I have really been stuck on this lately. Any Wisdom?

new from Houston..pros?cons?
wannadancesoon replied to 2tired2fight's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I too am new to this, my date is set for March 25, I have read and read as much as I can stand in each sitting, (then when I get up I hurt from sitting so long) if you read, you will get so much insight of what everyone else has gone through, sure its scary, my guy-friend is not behind this, of course he is a tight wad and this "is" a lot of money, he feels that I just should have better control over what I eat, men, can't live with them and can't live without 'em. I am doing this for me, I am tired of it being so hard to get up off the couch, goodness sake to get up off the floor is another ordeal, I want to wear shorts again, maybe even a bathing suit, (I know possibly not this year, but for sure next year) how about a crop top with "no" bra doesn't that sound nice, knowing that your belly isn't going to hang out for all to see, so much of this is for me, things that "I" want to do that I have not been able to because of all this weight, most of all, to be able to walk without getting winded, man I look forward to that so much. Do what your heart and mind wants to do, don't let others persuade you in any direction, this is for you!!:smile2: -
I have noticed in the last 3 weeks the weight stopped coming off. I am do for my first fill on March 8th. I am doing the mushy food and not going to try the next food group if this is causing me not to drop. I got on scale today (AM) and it said 242 and tonight just wanted to see it is back up to 245 I know that fluids during the day will cause increase. But I seem to go for the fluids when the thought of food strikes me. I know I am only 5 weeks into this but... I live alone and all my life I figured go ahead and eat this or that Who will know. Well I do not think this way anylonger. So hoping after a fill that will help. Oh I sure hope it does. Karen

Debbie: Not a failure! You had a baby and a leak! You'll get it fixed and then you're back on the program. It's probably surprising you didn't gain more than you did! You lost it before and you can lose it again. You have the advantage of being so much smarter about how the band works and what you need to do to get good results. Hang in there!

I have never had big boobs, always bothered me since I had big everything else, after kids they got better, but apparently mother nature is cruel and that is the first place I lost weight after surgery wtf... I have plenty of weight elsewhere that needs to go and it started there..... *sigh* when all is said and done with weight loss I may invest in a boob job if I need to go under to have skin removed anyhow....

100lb....16weeks...Not Too Shabby!!
budinindy replied to budinindy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ah yes...skin. Unfortunately for me...as being someone who has had a weight problem his entire life and has more stretchmarks around his stomach than lines on a road atlas...I have...and will have...some sagging skin...esp.around my stomach area. Will I opt for plastic surgery? Don't know. I've decided that once I reach my goal weight and am at a level of body toning I am comfortable with...once there I will wait a year and then decide whether or not I want to consider surgery. -
I guess I never really understood the lap band process. I had gastric bypass 10 years ago and gained half of my weight back. I had the Realize lapband in June and thought I would feel once again like I did 10 years ago....not so. I can eat LOTS. I thought this was an answer to obesity and would help. I initially lost 20 pounds because I ate shakes and soft foods after the surgery, but when I could eat regular food again I went back to old habits and have gained it all back. My band is almost full and I'm still eating and gaining. What is going on? I thought I would NOT be able to eat. Help! Klipspringer

Howdy from Texas... Banded May 31, 2007
Klovermom replied to agchick96's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone, my DH and I are getting things in order to undergo our banding procedures Oct. 1 in Mexico by Dr. Jose Rodriguez. We are planning on going on the low carb diet Sept. 1 to get a head start on the weight loss journey. We are so excited. Finally, after a lifetime of severe obesity and many problems associated with it we have a chance at normal lives. I am relying on the advise and encouragement of the new friends I hope to make here to help get us over the rough spots. I hope someday I too can give inspiration and advise to others who know the pain and heartbreak of living an obese life. Thanks in advance, Klovermom -
I really relate to your story. As time went by, I became less and less successful at trying to put on a happy face while being miserable about my weight. I'm on my way now to a thinner version of myself and I'm looking forward to happy shopping experiences. I know you'll get there, too!! I wish you much success!
