  1. So, there I am, scheduled for Mr. Band on Nov 14th, thinking I had a couple weeks before pre-op diet to have a couple nice steaks. Yesterday morning I get a call.... SURPRISE, we've rescheduled your surgery for Oct 29th, you need to start your pre-op diet tomorrow (which is today now). Holy horsesnot Batman, I'm totally unprepared. Well, am I as unprepared as I thought.... I quit drinking pop Aug 17th, unsweetened tea since then, tapering off the caffeine each day by watering down the tea more and more. Started trying different Protein shakes in early September to find one I liked, been having them for Breakfast and lunch for about a month now. Found out that Syntha-6 Isolate, chocolate Milkshake, is the f'ing bomb and is my shake of choice. So... today, had 3 Protein Shakes thus far, and am allowed 4 per day, and zero caffeine - Water only. That only totals 660 calories, can this be right? Holy hippo turds Batman, that's not very many calories Maybe I'm not as unprepared as I thought, but I need your help.... I'm allowed beef/chicken broth, sugar free candy/gum and sugar free popsicles. Can you tell me some good brands of these items? Thanks to all who participate in this site and make it such a valuable tool!!!!
  2. My paperwork was submitted yesterday for insurance approval!!! I have been fortunate that my coordinator has been on top of things so much and actually sent in my info a few days before she said she would be able to!! Now on to some pre surgery testing and at least 2 weeks if liquid only diet!! Hoping for last week in October/first week in November date!!
  3. My surgeon told me to take a small bite chew it well than wait a minute till I take the next bite, that way I won't over eat. But I'm still on liquids till next Wed. Won't be on solids for a good 3 weeks, than it is limited as to what I can have. Five weeks before I resume normal foods. But my normal is no processed foods, fresh fruits and veggies along with fish, chicken or turkey. I'm really into smoothies made with various greens. I do not eat sugar or white starches at all. It's a lifestyle change that makes this work. I lost 176 on my own, now I got banded so I can finish my journey. Best of luck to you and enjoy! Oh when it comes to eggs I only eat the whites. One egg white is 17 calories a whole egg is 90, so I use 3 egg whites for scrambled eggs.
  4. after surgery you will have a lot of swelling. So they usually say sip your Water. As the swelling goes away you can try to return back to drinking normally. just don't gulp your water. (it took me over a week to be able to get a full bottle of water. after that I was able to drink fine. ) for an egg I spend about 5-6 mins eating it. just because we are suppose to take small bites and chew it well, about 20-30 seconds per bite. your whole meal should take about 30 mins to consume. so if you have chicken, the piece of chicken shouldnt be bigger that your hand. for your sides they should be a cup each. so if you have two sides I take ten minutes for each item. sometimes with meat you might want to take your time and really chew it. so if you need extra time, please take it. you don't want to hurt yourself or the band. just remember to take small bites and chew really well. as long as you use portion control and take small bites you will be fine. good luck!!!

    What to expect after surgery?

I slept the entire day after surgery was over. Remove the sticker theyll apply behind ur ear soon as u awake. It cld be the source of ur feelings of puking. U'll have tremendous gas when u wake up. So i recommend Gas X soon as ur eyes open!! They will give u an rx for liquid vicodin it was sooo hard to find this at the pharmacies in my area so for about 3 days i was forced to chewing 500 mg acetaminaphin (tylenol) for any pain/soreness bcuz u wont be able to swallow ANYTHING whole for about 3-5 days. Coughing, sneezing, and laughing will hurt for abt a week or 2 but nothing too intolerable. No driving until ur certain the anastesia has worn off.. Do nothing strenuous. Take it easy like everyone says. I watched a lot of day time television and a ton of shows from the dvr. Good Luck =)
  6. Got the call this morning.... 3 weeks!!!
  7. I just got the call, band removal is 8/27 and I have to be on a 4 week liquid diet starting 7/31! Holy crap....no time to mentally prepare. I am crossing my fingers that the surgeon will sleeve me the same day but he has yet to do them in the same procedure. I'm still gonna put that energy out there and hope for that.

EGD Test - H. Pylori Infection

I was diagnosed with having H-Pylori before my VSG but my dr waited until 3 months after i had my surgery to treat it. The treatment (medicines) were no fun but it wasn't a huge deal. I was glad to have it over and done with but since I live in a third world country and work in missions it probably wont be my last time with a tummy issue. Hope you wont have to deal with it! But just wanted to let you know that some drs do let you go ahead and have the surgery with it. have a great day!
  9. I'm 8 weeks post op and I don't think that reality has quite caught up with me yet but I do fantasize about it for sure. Beats fantasizing about eating a piece of cake
  10. After 6 months of working toward this surgery, I have decided not to to through with it. I'm just not ready. With that being said, I have already purchased my preop diet. It's by betterMD and Its 2 weeks, 6 days worth of shakes, Soups, broth and 1 day of Clear liquids. The shakes are mostly chocolate with a few boxes of chocolate mint, strawberry, and vanilla. I paid $225 asking $125 I will accept Paypal only. Please let me know if this is not allowed here.

    I am having second thoughts...Nervous!

I had a really really hard time in the beginning. My first 6 weeks post op. I wasn't one of those people who were so in love with their sleeve from day 1. I never once regretted my decision I just wanted to get past that phase. I'm two months out (almost 11 weeks) and down 40 lbs! This new way of eating has become normal to me. All of a sudden stairs are easier, I can walk longer distances, I don't shop at lane Bryant and I'm 2 lbs away from being under 200. I could have never done this on my own. Never. Do I miss eating a ton? Yup. But that goes away when I look in the mirror and smile because I like myself. I haven't likes myself in 20 years. I have a YouTube channel and I just did a video about this Newlifemelissa Good luck to you! It's worth it. YOU are worth it
  12. Omg! Second thoughts, nervous, what if this doesn't work? All this for nothing?!?! Tomorrow I have pre op with hospital! Surgery on the 9th. I did learn that he fills by the band 2-3 cc.at time of surgery. And my folks are free after the first one, that's good right???

    Starving :(

Yep, I was warned about this. About 2 weeks after surgery we have to endure bandster hell. Sheer willpower, just like before. shakes really do help. If you are sick of them, go out and buy the Protein shots. I can't stand the shakes, so I exclusively do the shots. They do keep you full! For those in the know, Is it ok that I am eating about 7 SF popsicles in a day. They said I could have as many as I wanted. I found some amazeballs banana SF popsicles. They are awesome!

    Starving :(

OK, dumb question but where do you find the protein shots?? I thought I could do the shakes but we are just not becoming friends. I was banded on July 13 and for the last 3 days I have been starving!!! It's hard to get full on jello and broth

    where is my port?

Do you have one incision that is big compared to the others? That is where the port is. Mine is on the right side, directly below my breast, below the ribs. I am about 5 weeks out from surgery right now and can just barely begin to feel the port.
  16. Purplefaery you are right about learning a lot about yourself and cravings I now walk every day for at least 40 to 60 minutes, as well as make better choices to what I eat and why I eat it, these times are excellent in preparing you for your pre-surgery you. Although I didn't like it I am entering my 5 month in two weeks and I am looking forward to walking it down. I have been trying different protein shakes but don't want to get fixated on one since everyone says your taste buds changed. Hey you began trying any protein shakes ? I have bought a canister of unjury .
  17. My surgery Tuesday. I'm concerned because I ALWAYS sleep on my stomach. I know I wont be able to, so I am nervous about that. I snore when I am on my back. I hope I can sleep on my side. I'm bringing what I call my "boob" blanket with me. I bunch up and twin quilt and use it like a pillow between my boobs( so I guess I'm kinda on my side). I did that when I had my hysterectomy and it worked out fine. I have a 3 day hospital stay so I will let you know.

Started The Pre-Op Liquid Diet Today

It did not get easier for me. I hated every second and I cheated 3 times in 3 weeks. Hardest thing I've ever done.
  19. I have had my Cpap for a couple of weeks now. I'm getting used to it, but I am not sure how much it helps. Sounds like you got a good deal, mine was close to $700 out of pocket, with insurance!
  20. So today starts my two week pre op diet !! I just got really hungry at 1115 and ran to the waffle house and just finished eating .. Now its 1205 and I seriously am shaking in my boots. But on another note 17 days til surgery !!

    Good And Bad..... Help

If your insurance has already approved your sleeve, there is no chance you will be denied now unless you do something like send them a certified letter stating that your weight has dropped below a 40.0 BMI and to please reconsider. And probably not even then. Your surgeon won't care. This is assuming you have already been approved -- if not (which would be odd given that your surgery is in less than a week, correct?) then show up for your final weigh in wearing ankle weights and wrist weights and you'll be fine
  22. Ladies and gentleman!!!! OMG, surgery is set for tomorrow. I am excited and ready to live my life to the fullest.
  23. I have signed up for a pilates class at my school next semester. The class begins 7 1/2 weeks after my surgey. Will I be okay by then to work out?

    1 week post surgery

That happened to me all the time with the band. I was told it was the esophagus going into spasms because of either eating too fast for the food to go down, taking too big of a bite, or being full. Slow down and chew, chew, chew! I don't know if it will happen once I get my band out and sleeved next week!
