  1. I was wondering how long you have to go without losing pounds until you convince yourself that you are not in a stall but instead have lost as much as you are going to lose? I have not even lost 50% of my weight and have slowed down SO MUCH. I know that I am not getting to excercise like I would because I am a CPA in the middle of tax season and working 12 and 13 hour days. I am very careful with my diet and nutrition and track carbs, calories, and proteins constantly. Do you think that when (in a couple of weeks) I start exercising more I will start losing again? I am a very positive person and have not thrown in the towel, but probably just a little tired and let down slightly (probably just because of tax season). I just wanted to know all of you sleeve buddies' opinions.
  2. I have been an extremely slow loser from day 1. I had surgery on July 31, 2010 and have only recently reached my halfway mark. It sucks, but everyone assures me it will come off in my own time. It is still frustrating when I see people losing so much weight so fast. I have finally started to calm down since i have reached the halfway point. Your weight will come off too. I do believe stress and other factors play a part. I still gain 3-4 pounds the week of my period. I know its going to happen, but it still makes me crazy. Just keep on keeping on and you will get there. Good luck!
  3. I'm returning to work tomorrow (just half days til next week) after my panni & abdominoplasty. I'm so not ready for this, but I guess I have to eventually. I can't say there's still pain per se......maybe a little incision pain on my hips, but a tightness & soreness in my muscles that were repaired that is hardest. I just remember how drained I was at the end of the day when I went back after the sleeve. I only took 2 weeks then and probably could have used 3. For this I took 3 weeks and could have used 4. lol. Anyway. Me=Super Nervous. Any tips for returning to work after this for those who had it done? I'm open to any and all advice!!

    Vivid Dreams

I had several nights of weird dreams the first week. Really bizarre stuff. I chalked it up to my sleep being off and being woken up at the hospital at all hours for things (they did 4 a.m. blood draws). I don't have them anymore.

    Twin Cities Marathon

You'll definitely have to do some experimenting to figure out what works for you. If your training is anything like mine, you'll have a "long" run every week. That's your chance to start incorporating all the things you will eventually need to wear/eat/drink/carry. You'll figure out which clothes chafe you, where, and how to deal with it. You'd decide between a hydration belt, hand bottle, camel back, etc. You'll hopefully have great shoes early on in the process. Just make little tweaks and improvements every long run. That's your chance to simulate what the race will be like. You do NOT want to be making any changes to your gear, hydration, or food the day of the race. Need to have that all ironed out well in advance and have practiced it many times.

    High protein HELL!!

....and you will find a number of us who were not required to do a pre-op diet. My practice has 4 very busy bariatric surgeons and they DON'T recommend the 2 week high protein diet. As you will find throughout this process, one size does not fit all. I've read about the people with huge livers, too, but like Jacqui said, it's pretty rare. Cindy

    My lungs hurt

<sigh> I've been swimming for exercise for the past few weeks, and I've noticed as my endurance increases and I do more, my lungs / chest have been hurting when I breathe (after the exercise). It's a bronchial / airway thing and I've really had it all my life (again, after I have exercised in the past). I remember feeling it in my teens and 20's, but since I've never been an exercise guru or stuck with exercising for more than a few months at a time, I never paid much attention to it. I've been trying to figure out what it is and the only thing that I can find on the internet that seems to match is exercise-induced asthma. I'm not wheezing (yet), but I am taking short breaths because it hurts to take deep ones, and it reminds me of a very mild version of bronchitis (which I've had in the past, sometimes for months on end, but not recently). Any ideas? I really don't like to exercise but I'm trying as hard as I can to keep it up. This might just be a dealbreaker unless I can figure out how to solve it.

    3 days Post op sleeve

Just wanted to introduce myself and be a part of the support group. I was sleeved Friday 3/10/17 and now 3 days Post-op. I haven't lost any weight yet, hoping it's because of inflammation or water retention or something. Looking forward to sharing my journey.
  11. Today is day 1 for my full liquid stage in my post op diet. I only remember that my Doctor said cream of wheat and yogurt and I think he said cream Soup. What else can I have on full liquid stage. I tried yogurt today and I just took Greek yogurt and mix it with Protein powder ( Cookies and cream) it was like ice cream but I wasn't able to eat more then 3 tea spoon. later on I remember my favorite lassi and add the Water to it and blend and I was able to finish this drink. what other choices I can have on full liquid stage of post op diet. THANK YOU.

    How do you eat after?!

Don't get too discouraged. This will pass soon. Especially when you see the weight coming off. I got really upset with my inability to get my nutrients in and having absolutely no taste bud consistency. Tastes good, then I'm sick of it. That happened so many times. But after 4 weeks out of work being bored , it finally leveled out. It's worth it. I have so much energy. By the way. Remember to walk every day. You'll drop the weight so much faster. I lost like 30 lbs in 3 weeks.
  13. Hi all - I've been banded since 2009 and I lost close to 100lb, gained back almost 30. I've stopped exercising, I can eat anything, haven't seen a Doc in 3+ years because I moved away from my surgeon. I need to establish a new doc, cash patient I presume, with new insurance and all, I also need to find a support group and get back on track before I "hurt" myself with a slip or other issue. I CAN EAT ANYTHING...I choose bad things - cookies, ice cream, candy, etc. I COULD drink a protein shake, eat a healthy salad for lunch and another shake for dinner and feel full and satisfied, but I don't - I eat, eat, eat - out of boredom, stupidity and I've gotten very lazy - I don't exercise anymore. Zero support from home and just moved to new area so I haven't made friends yet. I'm searching out Dr. in my area - Daytona Beach, FL area and going to get myself on track - please feel free to offer advise and motivation - I love to hear from people that are doing well, or that have experienced the same. I feel "fat" again and I'm really beginning to dislike myself again. The "rolls" are re-appearing. I was a gym-junkie for a couple of years so I know that girl is inside somewhere, but she's hiding under a blanket eating a strip of frozen thin mints. HELP!
  14. I have been banded since 12-2006- slow slow slow loser for about 12 months (65 lbs) then got pregnant with a "band baby" attempted fill after done breastfeeding got dehydrated and kidney stone, had to get unfilled to try and pass the stone. I couldnt pass it and then had surgery. FInally ready to start again and my surgeon unexpectedly passed away. RIP Dr H. Struggled with that, then finally went to get refilled and my port flipped. FINALLY got insurance to agree to fix it! 3 days post op today with a 1.9 cc fill! Hoping to make it work this time! Baby is TOTALLY worth it though! She is a sweetie!:smile2:
  15. Hi all, I'm at week 3. I'm wondering what will happen if I'm not able to get all 60 grams of protein in daily. I've tried drinking the protein supplements, they make me gag. So I'm dependent on getting the protein solely by food. What role does protein play in our weight Loss? Sorry for such a long question.

    Pre op diet?

Hi there, Im having my surgery on 5 Feb too!! Im finding the pre-op diet very hard. Im allowed to have 4 replacemeal meal shakes or bars together with at least 2 cups of non-starchy veggies with lunch & dinner and I can swap either lunch or dinner for a "real meal" which is a small serve of Protein with veggies. Ive lost 2kgs in a week Good luck everyone!!
  18. I am 3 wks out from surgery.Dr told me to try blending some solid foods. I blendef a bit of tender meat w/ small curd cottage cheese. The texture was kind of sandy but no large chunks. Ate 2-3 Tbs for lunch fine. It was so good that I ate the same for supper, but this time I experienced pain. So no more to eat that day. Next day only protein shakes & it hurts every time I swallow. Is this normal? Maybe just not healed enough for the thicker blends?

    Acid Reflux

I am three weeks post sleeve and doing well except for acid reflux issues every morning. Going slow with the protein shakes in the morning around 8. Then doing water till 11. Eat a cream soup around 12. About 4-5 oz. then back on water around 1 till 330. Having food processed items around 430. Last night was 4oz chicken breast processed. Ate about half. Then back on fluids again around 530 till around 9. Shake again around 930. Bed at 10. But the mornings are horrible with the reflux. Anyone having this issue?

    2 weeks after surgery
  21. Since every practice is different, I'm wondering how much protein you were told you need after surgery. My surgeon says 60 to 80 grams per day. I am 2 weeks post op, and I'm not getting nearly that much. I know we're supposed to focus on water first, and I'm doing fine with that. I just about can't stand the protein shakes, so I got some protein shots and they are even worse but at least there isn't as much to drink. I've started eating high protein foods on the puree stage, like ricotta cheese and things like that. What is your track for getting in protein?

    No Fill

Well, I drove all the way to Nashville (3 hours) to have my second fill only to be told that the nurse in Dr. Morton's office could not do it. I had spoken to her twice on the phone and she told me if she could not find my port she would send me to the hospital to do it under x-ray. When I asked how much she told me she didn't know but the hospital would bill me. When I got there on Thursday she was delayed in surgery, they had already called and tried to reschedule and I refused because I had driven so far. She couldn't feel my port but I don't believe she tried or desired to. I can feel it when I lay down so I am sure she could have. She said it was too deep to do it in the office. I respect that and it did not upset me but the fact that she didn't tell me over the phone that they charge $350 to do the fill at the hospital and the hospital charges $450 really made me mad. Especially considering I had asked her that over the phone and she knew I was driving a long ways to boot. Anyway, I have been terribly depressed. I now have a fill scheduled in Dalton for Wednesday but I hate that it costs around $800 to do it here. I was sure looking forward to paying the $150!!! Hopefully this will last me like my last one. It has been three months since I had a fill but it has been about three weeks since I have needed one. I will ask for an aggressive fill this time. Perhaps 4cc since I have the 11cm band. I only got 3cc my first fill. Wish me luck! Thanks for all the support!

Struggling to get the weight off.

I had my surgery at 364 and in three weeks I'm already 338--and I'm only 5'5. Try the 20 net carbs again. Like someone else said, the sick feeling you had was more than likely the crap detoxing out of your body. When you know that, it makes it a little easier to go through. It should only last five to seven days, but afterwards you'll get energy like never before. Try drinking a premier protein shake within an hour of waking up or eating a high protein breakfast. I think many of us fat people skipped breakfast, and other meals, which lead to a poor metabolism. By getting protein in your body within an hour of waking, your revving up your metabolism for the rest of the day. Also, make sure you're taking a B complex-50. It's a metabolism support vitamin which helps a lot. You can do this. Good luck!
