  1. the first 10 months of my lap band odyssey have been so easy. I had my fills, lost the weight, no problems or issues...... I did have gallbladder surgery the 1st of August and had a complete unfill. I had 5.5 CCs up to that point, and had to start over. I had 1 CC put in on September 17th to get me back to 5 CC. So I'm still not quite where I was. I was doing great. I went on a retreat weekend on Sept. 25 to the 28th. I did fine. I overate a little, and was uncomfortable, but no issues. Up to this point I had experienced a PB only twice in 10 months. Well, starting Monday the 30th (a week ago today) I have PBd 8 times!!! what is up with that? This long after my last fill? I'm supposed to go on Friday to get another one, but certainly don't need it now. why after all this time, am I having trouble with this now? I don't understand it? Why the delayed reaction? Comments?
  2. I researched a few surgeons in Atanta and decided on Dr. Titus Duncan (Peachtree Bariatrics & Surgical) for one because he is in my network and two is one of the best in the industry. I read the earlier post about his process being patient driven and the comment following that something was wrong with that approach, but I found it is wonderful! Patient driven means it is up to you the patient to get all the pre-op done and show that you are really serious about the surgery. Why waste a physician's time with consultations to only back out. I am driven so I guess this appealed to my need to feel somewhat in control. 6/20/09 Seminar 6/22/09 Met with PCM 6/23/09 Nutrion Evaluation 6/24/09 Psych Evaluation 6/25/09 Cardiologist EKG/Stress Test 7/10/09 Packet submitted to insurance for approval I have Tricare Prime - South and what I have heard is the approval should be pretty quick. My coordinator at PSB instructed me to check with Tricare around Wed. 7/15. I am trying not to be so anxious but know that once I get the approval I will still have a little bit more waiting because Dr. Titus' surgery schedule stays pretty full.
  3. Just wondering who all has been banded by Dr. Stowers. He banded me on 9/19! I think he was/is great! Just curious of his other patients and maybe their success thus far.
  4. I had gastric bypass may 10, 2010 and lost 154 lbs-best decision I ever made for myself...but I've gained 30 of it back. I know a little weight gain is normal, but I've gone back to old bad habits!! Any post ops go through this?? And if so, HELP!
  5. Misty, were/are you following your bypass guidelines? I sitil don't drink for a half hour before or after my meals etc. I did stop journaling my food but stated again after gaining some stress eating pounds ands it's working. I already lost a couple of the 10 I had put back on.I continually tell myself I don't want to waste all I gained and all the money I spent. You can do it! Get a nutritionist to help you if you need to keep you on track. Tell yourself that you will not let this food take over your life! You CAN do it!

    Hair loss

I use Biotin daily. Some say it doesn't work, but for me, I've been on it for 10 months now and my hair has never been more healthy, strong and thick. It's also great for your nails. Old school remedy is Gelatin capsules - I have family that swears by it.
  7. After months of thinking, researching, and planning, my time is finally here. My VSG is scheduled for 10/23. I can't believe I'm doing this, but I am very excited!
  8. Hope it all went smoothly for you Mountainlover. Looking forward to hearing how it went and how you're feeling, since I'm right behind you - 10 days away. Hope you're feeling better soon and are able to post updates. Good luck!
  9. I was banded 6-19-06 and have not had any problems with the exception of soreness at the port site. I did expect this and i'm please that this is my only issue so far. I have been walking 5 to 7 minutes about 5 times per day since 2nd day. Thanks to all, Dwayne

How long will soreness lat at port site?

I was banded on 4/10/06 and I felt port site pain for 2 to 3 weeks. Even now I know when the weather is going to change-I get some pain. Good Luck, Jessica
  11. Had my upper GI study last Friday. It was unpleasant, but necessary. You stand/lean on a big moving x-ray table and drink various things. First, they gave me something they called "fizzies" which was a shot that tasted like alka-seltzer. Not horrible. Then I got to drink thick barium, which was not tasty, but they are giving you instructions the whole time, so it kinda distracts you from the nasty taste. Then they move you all around, have you roll this side to that, and drink more thinner barium. Finally, they gave me water, but I had to drink it lying down. Still, it was the best thing I'd had all day! And that was it. Took about 10 minutes. Now I know I have a hiatal hernia that needs to be repaired.
  12. Hello all, I'm Jack and I am considering Lap-Band. I have a wonderful wife of 10 years and a beautiful 9-month old son. I am an IT Manager at a private Catholic high school, though I am not Catholic myself. I'm 32, 5'8" and 288 lbs, down from my max weight of 314. I started gaining weight after high school, and really gained when I quit smoking almost 12 years ago. Like many, I've tried various diets and exercise programs with limited results. I have been lurking here a few days and have really been inspired by what I have seen. I have attended a free seminar and am currently considering if Lap-Band is right for me. I am going ahead with preparation of the paperwork to see if the procedure will be covered by my insurance provider. I look forward to getting to know some of you and to continue to gain inspiration from your stories.

    Whats The Pain Scale 1-10

From a scale of 1 -10 it is between 1-2.5 but everyones tolerance for pain is different. I had sugergy in the morning and was able to come home the same day. there is not alot of pain associated with this sugery it is more like aches almost like you over exherted your muscles. I would not hesitate to have it done again if ever need be.... good luck... -105> with 20> more to go
  14. Hi, I'm Cassi. It has taken me several years to make this decision. I previously felt like I was "giving up" or somehow "cheating" if I chose to do bariatric surgery. I felt like I needed to learn the lessons I needed to learn by working through this on my own. Now I've come to a point where I feel like the lesson I need to learn is that I don't have to do everything on my own. It's okay to ask for help. It's okay to NEED help. For so long I attached a lot of "moral rightness/wrongness" to choosing the surgery, as if losing weight the "old-fashioned way", i.e. diet and exercise, meant I was somehow stronger, better, etc. I have come to see it as a tool, a way of helping with the hunger part of the equation while I stay committed to the diet and exercise parts. I went to my PCP on Sept 6, 2007 with my decision to do the lap-band, which she whole-heartedly supported. From there, insurance had to approve the referral to a bariatric surgeon. They initially denied it, but then reversed their decision a few days later based on additional notes from PCP (showing consistent weight loss attempts). I have been to the requisite seminar, have scheduled the psych eval, and have scheduled the initial consultation with the surgeon, set for Oct 19, 2007. I'm hopeful that an approval to have a surg. consult. will mean that they will approve the actual procedure. It doesn't necessarily meant that, of course, but I can still hope, yes? Right now I'm at the stage of practicing eating with a lap-band--not the microscopic portion sizes, of course, but chewing thoroughly, eating slowly, avoiding "cheat" foods like ice cream, etc. My concerns are primarily centered around social issues. How/what do I tell people who say, "Wow, you look great!"? What is life at a Thanksgiving family get-together like? How do I deal with those who think I took the easy way out (believe me, I understand their mindset--I've been there). I just don't want to feel like I have to "explain myself" for the rest of my life. Anyway, sorry to get long-winded. I tend to do that. :-) I'm looking forward to getting to know many of you. Cassi

    My mom!!

Wow! This is a perfect thread for me. Mrs. Fips Flops you are a saint. You have so much going on and are still taking care of your mom. When I was 25 all I did was party and didn't have a care in the world. My heart goes out to you. I have been dealing with my elderly father. I moved him into assisted living in Feb. which he absolutely hates. He's 89 and can't live alone so I know he's frustrated that he has no choice. So now I am back here trying to clean out his house and sell all his stuffl. This is a man that has never thrown anything away in the last 20 years. I am trying to get the house ready to put on the market and have a "moving sale" all in 2 weeks time. I need more like 2 months to get this done. My dad thinks all his junk is worth a fortune and is having a fit because I am making him replace the carpet to get the house on the market. I am ready to tear out my hair. I wish he liked Oregon but he hates it and I don't want to move to Arizona either. It's a great place to visit and I would love to be a snow bird but right now this situation has no answer. Plus now if the house sells, I will have nowhere to stay to even come and visit him. So, I have been eating ice cream every day and will probably have 10 lbs to take off by the time I get back home. At least with the band, I know it's possible to lose the weight again when I get back into my old routine.
  16. I have had three fills, I have 7cc in a 10cc band. I have trouble with breads, some rice, and chx breast, basically all of the normal problem foods. I PB, slime, etc. I am not seeing consistent weight loss, but part of that may be weighing on two seperate scales (my dr is 3 hours away) and I don't think my home digital scale is all that accurate... seems accurate for my dh and kids but is 10-15 lighter than the scale in dialysis at work. Ugh. I am using my BodyBugg so I know what I am eating/burning on a daily basis. My nurse is coming into town next week to do fills, do I get a little fill or leave well enough alone?

    I have a surgery date!

My surgery is scheduled for 10-12-06 12 days after my b-day. Im also a little scared too but im going thru with it.. Good luck to you see ya.:clap2:
  18. I had my surgery 10/05/12. The hardest part for me was "breaking up" with food. I couldn't be excited about my dinners anymore because a couple of bites and it was over. I couldn't use it as a crutch...or a celebration. Do I regret it? Absolutely not. I'm down 82# and not focusing on food has been the most liberating lesson I have ever learned.
  19. Hi there! Keep it up! I am also having surgery on 12/30/19. My pre-op diet won't start until next week.
  20. Nice honest story. Thanks for sharing. Broads on YouTube like to be dramatic for views. Period. Plus a lot of them are straight nuts. If you watch enough of their videos it is easy to figure out. Men have a stigma attached to looking weak, women don't. They whine and cry on YouTube and people baby them. The same thing happens here, people mess up and make themselves miserable with dumb choices and want other people to coddle them. I don't have a YouTube channel but I have a high pain tolerance. I had a baby, no pain meds, 10 pushes, no screaming (I wanted my baby born into a calm environment). I had VSG surgery, stopped taking pain meds as soon as I got home 28 hours later. Drove my car on day 3. Did everything for myself because I live alone. I had no complications, little pain (it just felt like I did 1000 crunches, I used to do 1000 crunches a day in HS so I know the feeling), and I was back to my regular life fairly rapidly. People that are happy and have few issues don't usually shout it, because no one cares and it also seems like you are bragging and rubbing it in to the people that are miserable. So the miserable people have the floor. I think you are going to do great long term. If you aren't already seeing a therapist you probably should. You might have an identity crisis once you aren't a Bear anymore and you have to figure out where you fit in your world after knowing your place for so long. BTW the Bears are my favorite
  21. my surgery is June 4th. My doc told me not to take anything 10 days before surgery. This dang migraine would have been gone if I was able to take my excedrin or aleve. Can some one please tell me what I can take?
  22. I was sleeved 6 months ago today and I couldn't be happier. Quick stats... HW = 238, CW = 154 Hit surgeon's goal weight 3 weeks ago and I'm 4 pounds from my personal goal. went from a size 22 jeans to size 10 (I would have been happy in size 12) Tops XL/XXL to M I'm going to go ahead and say it, I'm kind of starting to think this was the "easy way out" after all. Sure, the preop and postop diet stuff wasn't super fun but it was all so temporary. And then there was acid and nausea and diarrhea and constipation and stalls, but seriously, those things are minor compared to all the good stuff. I never thought I could look and feel this fabulous at 45. And the changes have been so simple....I'm not measuring or tracking anything so I don't feel like I'm on a diet. My excersise program is non existent. All I do is follow the basic rules....protein, fruits, veggies and Water. I eat when I'm hungry, I eat what I want and I eat until I'm satisfied. The only thing I really gave up is beer and I don't miss eating huge meals at all. My bloodwork is great and I'm actually having to add carbs to slow my weight loss now that I'm basically at goal. For the newbies out there, all I can say is keep your eye on big picture, follow your doctor's diet plan (no cheating!!) and stay positive. Whining and stressing over the recovery and reflux and diet restrictions and stalls and everything else that is a normal part of this process won't help. And good luck to everyone...I hope everyone feels like I do someday. P.S. gotta put in a great big thanks to everyone at Obesity Control Center for making this possible for me.

    Newbie from Canada

Hi Everyone, I am from Calgary too! I have been banded for 10 weeks now. Although I cannot boast big weight loss numbers yet, I am finally getting the hang of this new lifestyle and have had some really good NSV's of late. Good luck on your surgeries and keep up posted!
