    Eating leftovers?

    I pack several days worth of food prepped just for me in little 2 and 4 oz. containers. I like eating the same thing over and over. I make sure to put some kind of sauce on the protein to keep it moist. Most meats tend to dry out the longer you have them unless they are tightly sealed. Of course everyone’s taste changes. I only prep three days ahead.

    Acid Reflux or GERD post surgery

    I had acid reflux at least 3-4 times a week before surgery sometimes more. I discussed this with my Dr because I did not want to end up having a revision because of it getting worse. He said that out of the thousands of surgeries he has done he could count on one hand how many actually had a revision and not all of them were because of reflux. I may be one of the few but I have not had reflux since I started my pre op diet and I am 7 months out.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

    Hey All - Just had the sleeve procedure on Monday 11/22. Was nervous leading up to it and thought I'd never survive the liquid diet lol. Now it's not quite a week later and doing well. Sipping water, broth and some protein shakes. what are others finding to "eat" that maybe is a little more creative?

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

    Still on Full Liquids. Looking forward to puree. It's getting tough though. I haven't weighed myself... decided to do that only on Sundays. Not sure I feel like I've lost much weight this week. Surgery was last week Monday... so I'm 12 days out. I need to figure out how to get walking in. It's suddenly cold here.. 30 degrees. Compound that with constantly feeling cold after surgery and I do not want to go outside. I'm worried that I'm not getting enough protein. I know I'm allowed my protein shakes now, but the thought turns me off.

    Acid Reflux or GERD post surgery

    I had mild GERD a starting a few weeks after sleeve surgery. I never had it before the surgery. So, my surgeon put me on omeprazole for a few months. There has been no recurrence since I went off it.

    RNY to RNY revision.

    I'm at 266 right now, pre-surgery. I'm optimistic having read your status at 2.5 months. I'm hoping to break 200 after the revision. I haven't seen "onederland" since college. I dare not even dream of a lower target weight. I have done so well pre-surgery that people are asking why I want to go ahead with the revision. I was stalled for 10 weeks and thought I had bottomed out. However, this week I have just dropped a few pounds. I still don't have a surgery date, but that may be due to the rise in COVID cases In my area.

    RNY to RNY revision.

    I did an RNY revision to distal rny. I am 2.5 months out and was 266 two week before my surgery and today I was 216.4 (weight in the afternoon after eating). I have a toddler so not picking at her leftovers was an issue but the longer you stick with it the better it is! Also, you learn from your previous mistakes with your last surgery. I felt terrible after my first surgery but I’m taking my vitamins diligently and eating good and I’m so glad I did it! I’m going to start going to the gym soon too 🙂

    Oh I forgot the weirdest thing that happened after my surgery. I woke up and my eye glasses didn’t work anymore! In the span of 2 hours my prescription changed. So right now I have to take off my glasses for anything up close and put them back on to see stuff more than 3 feet away. The doctor thinks it’s a reaction to anesthesia or the nausea patch. I had just ordered 2 new pairs of glasses a week ago and will be quite sore if I can’t wear them! 😅
  9. Thank you for starting this thread, @Jerald180! At first I thought maybe my protein shakes were too "thick" and causing the phlegm and coughing, but between this thread and some research I now realize it's the intubation (I had RNY on Monday). No one warned me about this particular side effect! But it seems that coughing is better than not coughing, because it means I'm getting crap out of my lungs. And I've spent all day suddenly blowing my nose as though I have a bad cold, which I'm hoping is also a good thing (= things are loosening up/moving out). Hoping to only have this issue for another 2-3 days. I'm also a singer, and I wish the anesthesiology team had asked me about/mentioned these things in pre-op! I have a small gig in two months (followed by a major gig a month later), and I just can't imagine trying to sing right now. I hope I'll be up for starting to prepare in another week or two.
  10. Be very intentional with the cardiac clearance. My nightmares started with that. I was sent for cardiac ""clearance", but ended up with a PA who decided to go full diagnostic despite my having no symptoms. First, she said I was probably lying that I didn't have any symptoms. She gave me 2 MISdiagnoses and put me on a drug that would've killed me had I kept taking it. She required I undergo a test that almost killed me, then demanded I get an angiogram. She refused to allow me to see an actual certified cardiologist. No cardiologist ever examined me. Then, this PA completely reversed herself 180 degrees, said I was ok to have surgery after all. This PA also failed to get the proper info to insurance/billing so I could even get an estimate for all this BS for over 4 weeks! Her completely incompetent handling of everything from the paperwork to the tests to the misdiagnoses cost me over 4 months of time and agonizing stress, thinking I was dying of heart disease. I also have snapshots of the monitors from the tests and the data from the test, and the actual numbers is not what this PA wrote up in her reports to justify all her crazy ideas. She changed my data to fit her narrative and plan for more and more expensive tests/procedures. Thank God my GP ended up getting me in to see a real doctor/cardiologist--this took an additional 6 weeks--and the only way to completely negate all the erroneous hunches and bogus guesses the PA had loaded onto my chart was to have an angiogram that proved the PA had been wrong about everything. She literally risked my life 3 separate times and caused harm. My cardiologist said to me twice that the PA "...screwed you, she really screwed you." But of course, me, my husband and our insurance still have to pay for the over $35K in bogus tests/appointments/procedures despite them being completely unnecessary and dangerous. It is scary that we have no control over who is calling the shots and how much of our "program" is just to bring in extra dollars for the hospital.

    Hahaha ClareLynn I think that happens to lots of people somewhere along the pre-op road! So glad you've made it through the op - bet that diabetes will be a thing of the past real soon. I'm exactly a week ahead of you and that week makes such a difference! We're on the road 😍

    Hi everyone - how are you all getting along? I'm day 10 today - got my staples out so totally lost horror/goth status with my family. I am just starting thicker fluids - yoghurt, runny mousse type consistency - and it feels good. I have lost *no weight at all* since I came home on day 2 - hoping this is just some sort of adjustment because I really need to see a loss soon. Managing about 50g protein a day - maybe 60 yesterday. I did suck a tiny lump of cheese yesterday and I've never tasted anything as good. Pain is improving a little every day. I have my 2 week checkup next Wednesday and I hope to go back to work after that. I'm walking 1000 quick steps several times a day now. How is everyone else? Just jogging along?
  13. I was told I have to start a special "liver shrinking diet" 2 weeks before. My doctor prescribes for everyone, not just me. Then liquid diet 2 days before. Good you don't have to do the 2 week before.

    Start Pre-Op Diet Early?

    if you're on one like mine was (4-5 protein shakes + zero (or almost zero) calorie liquids (includes SF popsicles and SF Jello) plus a limited amount of tomato juice and broth) - then you may just want to ease into it, like some of the other posters suggested. That type of two-week diet can be brutal - I just as heck wouldn't want to extend it. On the other hand, if your two-week diet allows more food (like a low-cal, low-carb dinner or something), then it'd probably be do-able.

    Do you still do 6 meals a day?

    The whole idea behind my nutritionist's 6-meals-per-day plan is to gradually increase the quantity per meal so that eventually I'll be able to eat one cup of food per meal three times a day. The six meals are 1/4 cup each, building up to 1/2 cup and so forth. I don't think any post-surgery plan is forever, they're all meant to shepherd you into your new normal. And plans vary wildly between surgeons, as mentioned above. There's no one rule beyond sticking to the plan your surgeon gives you.

    Happy Thanksgiving 🍗

    My gastric sleeve surgery was about was just over 3 weeks ago. I’m still on bariatric III which is the liquid and some full liquid diet. This is my first Thanksgiving. My husband, sister and brother-in-law had all the traditional turkey fixings and desserts. I had Progresso tomato soup. Then a couple hours later I had some sugar free chocolate pudding. I guess you can say I had a non traditional turkey dinner. Happy Thanksgiving to you all

    Do you still do 6 meals a day?

    There are many different plans with different requirements for how frequently you should eat, how much you should eat, etc. I was to eat only three meals but as I progressed & my caloric intake & portion size continued to be low (couldn’t eat much at a meal) I was advised to add a snack or two - I added yoghurt & or fruit. While trying to sort out my maintenance plan I was adding 4-5 snacks. Now I’ve stabilised, & can eat more at a meal, I usually only eat 3 snacks. Eating this often helps me get the calories in I need to maintain (about 1300) & to meet my protein goals. You may be totally different & that is a big thing to understand. What worked/s for me may not work for you. Best place to begin is with your surgeon’s plan then continue to have discussions with your dietician, surgeon & GP to work out your best way forward. Good luck.

    I'm struggling

    So sorry your surgeon was an ass. I hope you have more support from the other hospital’s team. Some vitamins can cause nausea (vitamin C, E & iron are the main culprits) & it can be challenging to find one with right quantities to suit you. Make sure you take it after you eat & if you have to take more than one, spread out taking them across the day. Bone broths do contain protein. Not as much as the protein shakes of course but for those who can’t tolerate the shakes they are a welcome alternative plus they are a change from shakes three times a day. The broth contains lots of essential nutrients as well.

    Vitamins

    I don’t take any vitamins any more. Haven’t since about month 8 (hit goal at 6 months) with my surgeon’s approval. While I was losing I took a multi vitamin. Also took a vitamin D to begin but was told to drop it because I had more than enough in my body. I stopped taking multivitamins because I’m not lacking in any nutrients - my three monthly blood work always comes back really good - except protein ☹️. (My poor ability to absorb protein is a result of my gall surgery but I don’t have to take the Creon I was prescribed anymore because they didn’t help - just have to continue to be vigilant with my protein intake.) What do your blood tests show? Are you lacking in any specific vitamin or mineral? Once you stabilise your weight, it’s not as necessary for sleevers to continue to take vitamins unless you are specific lacking in something unlike bypass patients who need to continue to take them due to malabsorption challenges.

    Yes definitely it is indeed very terrifying. I am not really scared of dying per se, but more scared for my family and how they would manage if something goes wrong. Though worst case scenario is death but then again when I think about it as an obese person who has struggled with her weight half of her life and the fact that I haven't even *lived* my life to the fullest till now, so what's the most I can lose from the surgery anyways. All I have is to gain from this little risk. With that mindset, I am going all in and hoping for the best. Though I have written emails to my family and friends and have send them as *scheduled email* 1 week after the surgery date just in case I may not have the opportunity to do so. Just so they know how much I have love them and that there has been 0 regrets from my end for opting for this surgery. It may lessen their guilt in case something unfortunate happens. Besides that, I will go in with an optimist mindset and will hope to concur this little battle.
  21. Wow! You guys have it really rough with quarantine and then liquid diet for so long! Yikes! I think I'd prefer to just be put on an IV and knocked out for 2 weeks instead... All in all, I'm doing ok. I spoke to my dietician today and she encouraged me to eat my free veggies when the hunger pangs hit - which I'm going to do now that I know I can! It does help to get in touch with others who are going through the same stuff, doubts and fears. LadyVan, as we put it in South Africa: "Vasbyt!" (literally, bite hard - or else, hang tough) I'll be rooting for you! Maybe there's a cool show you can start watching to get you through the long hours? Ever tried any Korean shows? They've been game-changing for me...

    Start Pre-Op Diet Early?

    I would say it's fine if you want to get the hang of things and may be want to lose little more weight. My surgery got postponed twice and both times I was on Pre-Op diet unfortunately. First time, I did it for 1 week and second time it was for 10 days. And finally I am yet again on my Pre-Op diet for 10 days with today being day 6. So I would say it's fine as long as you have it in you to keep going. Though I would recommend you enjoy this very last week before you have to take the plunge for 2 weeks straight. It may get difficult then and you may regret not utilizing a week before your Pre-Op diet to indulge in your favorite foods.
  23. I'm so stressed out from the 6 months of surgery delays and waiting to get this process going, I wonder if it would all be easier if I just started my pre-op liquid diet now, a week early. Does anybody know if that's ok? a problem? safe? not safe? I'm just so sick of waiting and waiting.
  24. I'm on my 7th? I think? day of the liquid-only pre-sx diet. I'm actually struggling to drink enough of the protein shakes. I am supposed to drink 5 protein shakes and water every day. I'm a little worried about my low intake. I know I need the protein. I just can't seem to get them down. I also skipped this holiday with my friends (my family is in Buffalo, I'm in NC) because I didn't want to be tempted. My BF keeps saying I'm almost there. I keep saying... Yeah, for my SX but I'll be on liquids for a month or two after surgery! I cleaned out the fridge so there wouldn't be temptations. I have 2 more workdays and 1 week left. EEEK. I'm glad I don't have to quarantine. I'm surprised they're requiring it from you. I would think they would be more concerned about you getting a nosocomial infection from unvaccinated hospital staff rather than staff getting something from you!

    Vitamins

    Since surgery in June 2021 I have taken 2 Bariatric fusion multi vitamin chewable and 1 Bariatric fusion calcium daily. I recently had to add in a chewable fusion iron 2x a week bc my iron is low. Glad you mentioned the biotin isn’t working bc I’m losing fair and was gonna order it next.
