  1. Don’t freak out. You don’t feel the restriction right away even on soft foods. The important thing for me is I have to eat slowly; the new “full” signal apparently arrives in my brain via slow boat from Gibraltar. And honestly, even if you were eating only 2000 calories in the Before Times, a 1000 calorie a day deficit is 3.5 pounds a week loss. Chances are you were eating more than that. So a day of 1000 calories isn’t going to kill your weight loss. I am two months out and eating 1000-1400 a day and losing weight hand over fist—3-5 pounds a week. (The amount was set by my NUT, who calculated in my very active lifestyle.) I had a barium swallow last week and my stomach is fine, I still feel restriction. Courage, you will be fine.

    November 2021 surgeries

My surgery is scheduled for 11/22 -- just one day before you, @Wolfievonsnap! It was originally scheduled for 11/1, but last month there was a miscommunication with my cardiologist that resulted in an unnecessary 3-week delay. Frustrating, but I'm glad it wasn't longer! This is day 7 of the pre-op diet.

    WAIST TRAINER

Did you ever get an answer? Have you tried it? I wanted to do a soft one starting at a few weeks and then a few months in go for the real ones.

    Dumping 😭😭😭

I'm a little over a year post-op revision and I still have "dumping" episodes a couple times a week. It was MUCH WORSE the first couple months after surgery. Unfortunately, there isn't really any rhyme or reason to when I dump. Yes, high sugar and high fat items are sometimes a trigger, but overeating anything can have the same result. I get hot flashes, then severe bloating followed by diarrhea. But, dumping does keep me honest when it comes to watching what I eat. And I have to be super careful about my eating when I'm not at home!

    no more dairy...ugh! Breakfast?

You can also fry a week's worth of eggs in advance and keep them in the refrigerator. Warm them in the microwave along with a slice of Canadian bacon or pre-cooked bacon and a bit of cheese in the time it takes to toast an English muffin. Then assemble and eat in the car. (Sorry for being unresponsive to your actual question. I don't use yogurt of any kind, including plant-based.)

    Waist training

Every single hiit and cardio routine includes abs now. I feel a bit cheated...to me ab work is ab work and I don’t understand why every single cardio routine is including them. They thicken the waist if done every day, and planks and all plank movements are the worst for thickening it up. I like to do my abs 3 maybe 4x a week max and find myself changing exercises for every single routine I’m doing now. When will this trend go away? It’s like trainers can’t think of any more cardio moves so they throw in abs again to fill many minutes of a workout. I just paid top dollar for a new cardio routine dvd and about 60 percent of it is standing or lying abs. I’m improvising again! I just don’t find the boxy thickened waist of excessive planking and overstrained waists attractive. If your going to train the abs like that there should be some back strengthening moves to balance out at the very least.
  8. I had surgery two and a half years ago. I, too, had an extremely traumatic childhood, part of which involved being frequently left home alone without food. That obviously led to a host of eating/food issues and a considerable weight gain in adulthood. I've lived with a fear of starvation since childhood, so was also concerned about whether I could go through the various eating stages for the surgery. What really bolstered my confidence was when I was able to severely restrict my food intake a few weeks *before* the surgery, paring down my calories to about 800/day, which is what I would live on for the year after surgery. After the initial fear wore off, it actually became easy. I was really shocked at how easy it was. Plus, I was lucky to have weekly therapy to discuss my progress and concerns. The surgery resulted in my losing my lifelong fear of starvation. My brain now knows that there is always food available to eat, that I won't be threatened with hunger, etc. It has been really uplifting. I hope this happens for you, too, whatever your childhood issues were.
  9. I'm 2 weeks post op gastric sleeve and was excited to start my scrambled eggs today and something very weird happened 30 minutes after eating my 1 scrambled egg. I got this feeling of being drunk (I've been drunk before but haven't had alcohol in 45 days). I got a high feeling, I was slurring my speech,I tried to wake up to go the bathroom and damn near staggered all the way. My husband was really worried but also found it funny because he has seen me like that before but after a few.... so he found it funny that my 1st meal made me drunk. I've Googled and can't get any answers. Fast forward, this evening i had about 6 spoonfuls of plain ground beef and 30 minutes later my husband was waking me up telling me i passed out asleep while on my phone. The first thing I told him was that i felt buzzed like earlier and i slurred my words again. I'm wondering, has this happened to anyone here before? Am I having some weird complication? What am I doing wrong? I might end up calling my surgeon if this keeps happening..... Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Food Before and After Photos

Made these roasted green beans + almonds and potatoes slices from a leftover baked potato. Nice sides pre-made for the busy week ahead to go with a protein.
  11. They’re a pancreatic enzyme supplement & assist in the digestion of food & consequently improve the absorption of nutrients. I take them now as since my gall removal I don’t absorb protein as well. I’ve been on them for almost three months. Blood test tomorrow so fingers crossed they’re helping.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

For me, I've had covid twice, once after the phizer. After the second time, I developed an arrhythmia that effects me about 2 days per week. My primary and my cardiologist both suggested this for me. I'm very overweight, so losing weight will be a bonus. But fixing the arrhythmia is my goal first.
  13. Today I not only hit a big goal of losing 100lbs but I hit 102lbs!! 6 weeks out slowly but surly feeling stronger!!

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

  15. HI, I'm new here. I had VSG on 10/28 and so I'm just over two weeks post op. I still have incisional pain, but I am having very little restriction. So far, nothing at all has made me sick, I have no food aversions whatsoever, and I have been hungry since day 1. I was allowed to transition from liquid diet to soft foods ONLY FOUR DAYS AGO. Today I was trying to follow the meal plans laid out in my resources which basically was 1 cup of soft food and two protein shakes. I did that, and I had a snack in the afternoon of about 3oz hummus and olives. I had ricotta bake, an egg, a protein shake, and that's about it. Maybe a sup and a half fo soft food all day, but I tracked my calories at 1000. I'm so upset with myself. My clinic told me that people are able to get between 500-800 during the soft food stage. What is wrong with me? How do I fix this? How do I keep from feeling like I did all this for nothing?

    October surgery friends??

I'm doing well. Sleeve was 10/18, I've lost 18# so far and have hit a plateau. Coming up on 4 weeks Monday, I use the Lose it app as it worked before surgery when I lost 60# by eating healthy and exercising. Of course I wasn't using it when I regained 30 of that 60. Anyway, with the small amount of food I take in as well as exercise, I'm barely taking in any calories. I'm curious if that's part of the plateau although I know everyone hits it. Anyone else hit that plateau?

    October surgery friends??

@JordanM Hi! It feels like burning right in the center of your chest - especially when it gets bad. Maybe the top of your throat in your mouth - that can feel like it’s burning. I clear my throat a lot and have been told that’s from acid reflux. Coughing, trouble swallowing - all of that can happen if it goes untreated. I wasn’t given an exact amount for water intake post op - was told if my urine was light yellow and mouth wasn’t dry, I was getting enough. I was sleeved on 10/8. I’m down 32 pounds since 9/28 (pre-op appt) from 257 to 225. I feel good but I’m struggling with depression - something I’ve struggled with before but it’s gotten worse. I want to eat, but I can’t. I want chocolate, but I can’t. I’m on solid food as of 4 weeks out and so far I can pretty much tolerate everything.

How do you know when you're full?

First, give yourself a chance to heal. It can take up to 6 weeks or even more. It will happen. Then you will have clear difference between full and normal discomfort. At this point, you will learn. There is more to a program than learning when "full" is. Our programs are generally portion size controlled. So, once you can detect "full" you eat until you finish your controlled portion or until your pouch decides you are full, whichever comes first. All these years later it's how it still works for me. Be patient with yourself. Good luck, Tek

What was your protein/day goal after surgery?

Yes, allowed to have soup, but the dr asked me to focus on the protein shakes for this week.
  20. Mine was same as sleeve one 3 days full liquids then soft then purée actually is 10 weeks before I can eat normal and will be four weeks before I can eat an egg
  21. No study done, In the largest incision, there was a pucker that it now gone. The NP determined this based on the location of my pain and when the pain increased. This was all done over the phone. I did have a follow up appt with her a week after we spoke on the phone and by then the pain was gone.

    Before and After Pics

I’m so excited for you! It has been by far THE BEST thing I have ever done for myself and completely life changing. I remember before I started looking at inspo pictures and thinking I’d be happy just getting halfway to where they were…I set my goal for 140 and still can’t believe I was able to hit it and surpass it in 7 months. The time has flown by. Best advice I can give is be Consistent with the protein, vitamin, and water goals, move your body 5x a week even if it’s just a walk, and be easy on yourself! The scale fluctuates so I only checked once a week and that helped me from mentally spiraling when I’d hit stalls (which will happen). Best of luck and keep me posted! Happy to stay in touch along the journey.
  23. I talked to the dietician last week and high fiber vegetables and gassy foods like broccoli can trigger bloating and dumping. Butter and oil don't seem to be problematic but I don't eat a lot of either, so it's hard to say. Good luck on your surgery.

4th day Sind gastric by pass

It's normal to hurt for the first week or so after surgery. It's major surgery, and you are also recovering from multiple stab wounds from the endoscopic sites. Some folks bounce back quicker, but it took me a good two weeks to stop hurting.
