  1. Thanks for answering everyone! I was told that it would take anywhere from 3-6 fills to get to my "sweet" spot. They said that before I get there I would start to notice that I was a little more hungry toward the end of the 4 weeks inbetween fills. Right now I'm able to eat three meals a day with a protien shake thrown somewhere in between and it seems to satisfy me for the day. The hard part is this - I'm having to learn the difference between "head" hunger and "body" hunger. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. I'll be walking past the fridge thinking about how I'm hungry, then I have to ask myself if I really do "feel" hungry...it's just frustrating, and it's hard breaking old habits.
  2. Your insurance will drive a lot of what you have to do. I have Aetna and was required to do 3 months of "multidisciplinary" program. A part of that was being on a supervised diet. I had no set amount of weight to lose but I was not allowed to GAIN any during 3 months. I also met with nutritionist monthly and had a psychological workup. My surgeon required EKG, EGD, Heart checkup (which I had already done), and be up to date on colonoscopy, pap and mammo. I also had two sets of blood work done before surgery. 2 weeks before surgery I was required to be on a liver shrinking diet. I drank Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch then had a list of lean cuisines I could choose from at night. I was approved for surgery by Aetna in 3 business days. I had surgery a month later. I'm only a little over two weeks out. I have NO regrets. I consider myself lucky because I have had very little post op issues. No gas pain at all, very little nausea. I'm able to get my liquids and Proteins in just fine. GOOD LUCK!!
  3. Hey thanks everyone for your responses. The surgeon I am seeing requires a psych evaluation, a meeting with a dietitian, lose 8% of your body weight, a class for fitness and a class for lifestyle change. My concern is the blood work- I don't do so well with getting blood drawn. My insurance requires the same exact thing as the surgeon. How soon after can you start working out? I currently do cardio, step and strength training 6 days a week for 30-60 minutes. I love working out. Will I be able to walk my pups after the operation?

How long does the chest pain last?

Are you confusing "chest pain" with heart burn? Are you taking a daily PPI? During the first two weeks I had to get my surgeons Ok to take my prilosec twice a day. And adjusting the time made a the relief for my heart burn / chest pain. My first week at home I was slow with liquids- normal. But I did have to play around with water, add flavor, change temperatures (one day Rooney temp, next ice cold, next with ice) one I got the flavors and temp right it was much easier. I also lived on bone broth my first two weeks to get my protein because it hurt to drink protein shakes. The first 2-3 weeks your belly is definitely healing and needs time to adjust, don't forget you had a breathing tube during surgery and that also creates some irritation with fluids. Just take your time and try to stay hydrated followed by your protein.

    Looking for support

I think winter months are the hardest to lose weight with or without the sleeve. It's cold dark and depressing. Have u tried joining a gym? I find if I make myself go a few days a week I feel a little better. I've been at a stall for awhile and trying to get back to basics, adding protein shakes and lowering my food intake. Good luck, they weren't kidding when they said it's not the easy way out
  6. The thing about loose skin is, it's mostly out of your control. Exercise definitely can help but really it all boils down to genetics, skin elasticity, how much weight you have to lose, and age. It's unfortunate but some people are just going to have loose skin no matter what they do to try avoid it. Speaking from personal experience, I've had TONS of loose skin. I've lost over 200 pounds and seriously look like a Shar Pei naked. However, I will say this, I'll take the loose skin over the fat any day. I can hide the skin under clothes and look good- there was no hiding 200 pounds of fat. Btw, I am currently recovering from a surgery that was hernia repair/tummy tuck/skin removal combo. My surgery was about 2 weeks ago. It's a rough recovery but I think worth it, my tummy looks drastically different but amazing. If you want a look, I posted a thread about it here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/169905-tummy-tuck-before-after-pics/ Do what you can to reduce excess skin- drink lots of Water, exercise, don't smoke, and use a good firming lotion. But even if you do end up with excess skin? It can be removed with surgery and even if you opt not to have surgery it's so much better than fat. Best wishes!

  9. I feel like im eating or drinking something every 5 minutes trying to get my liquids and nutrition right!! is this normal?? i Have no clue when im hungry im just eating because i feel like "ITS TIME"
  10. A little history on me..... I have lost 38 lbs & want to lose 50-55 more. So, in total I'll lose about 90 ish. Plus I have had 3 babies & my belly really got BIG. Anyway, as I lose I can already see the skin wrinkling & sagging :tt2:. I'm so mad at myself for letting myself get so big over the years that I ruined my body. My skin will never go back. So, after I lose all this weight I'll have that to deal w/. It really sucks! There's no way I can affford a TT. CAn any one suggest a good surgen in Boston area? What is a round about cost for TT? Thank you!

    need a chin up....

Thanks to all of you for your advice. I am feeling better this week. I saw my surgeon for my 3 mth f/u also and he thinks things are going fine. I have not been getting enough protein OR fluids, and I believe this is the problem. I just have to find high protein snacks and fluids that I can stomach. I used to drink huge amounts of cold water, and can't do that at all any more. I got really burned out on shakes in the beginning, and am having trouble getting them down at all now. I think all this is a learning curve that I will get eventually... I have to remember that I have lost 52 lbs in 16 weeks. I guess this is pretty amazing... I feel better than I have felt in years, and am so grateful for the opportunity for a new beginning! I do love my sleeve... By the way, thankyou so much Tiffykins for the gift of your time to encourage all of us... You make me feel like I Can do it! You look great by the way. I know you are so excited... I thought about you when I went shopping at Lohmanns this weekend! It was the first time in Many years that I have been able to shop in a regular store. (started at size 20 - 22) My daughter handed me a pair of shorts size 14 - with a waist. " I can't wear those", I gasped. "Just try them Mom", she insisted. They fit - with room to spare! I was so excited... Another NSV!!!! Have a great day, Heygale
  12. I've been stalled for probably 7 weeks but I've started moving again ... ThankGod! I've come the conclusion that im a slow loser and that's what my body does...I stall then I lose. Just step up the exercise and drink plenty of water and protein first and u will be fine!
  13. Hi all! I know it's early now, but I am an avid Tabasco person. Now that I am 2 weeks out, I seriously miss hot spices in my soups/ foods. When might it be safe to reincorporate spices and what did some of you sleevers reintroduce first? Don't want to injure myself!! :-). Thanks! Roz
  14. I was wondering how long you have to go without losing pounds until you convince yourself that you are not in a stall but instead have lost as much as you are going to lose? I have not even lost 50% of my weight and have slowed down SO MUCH. I know that I am not getting to excercise like I would because I am a CPA in the middle of tax season and working 12 and 13 hour days. I am very careful with my diet and nutrition and track carbs, calories, and proteins constantly. Do you think that when (in a couple of weeks) I start exercising more I will start losing again? I am a very positive person and have not thrown in the towel, but probably just a little tired and let down slightly (probably just because of tax season). I just wanted to know all of you sleeve buddies' opinions.
  15. I have been an extremely slow loser from day 1. I had surgery on July 31, 2010 and have only recently reached my halfway mark. It sucks, but everyone assures me it will come off in my own time. It is still frustrating when I see people losing so much weight so fast. I have finally started to calm down since i have reached the halfway point. Your weight will come off too. I do believe stress and other factors play a part. I still gain 3-4 pounds the week of my period. I know its going to happen, but it still makes me crazy. Just keep on keeping on and you will get there. Good luck!
  16. I'm returning to work tomorrow (just half days til next week) after my panni & abdominoplasty. I'm so not ready for this, but I guess I have to eventually. I can't say there's still pain per se......maybe a little incision pain on my hips, but a tightness & soreness in my muscles that were repaired that is hardest. I just remember how drained I was at the end of the day when I went back after the sleeve. I only took 2 weeks then and probably could have used 3. For this I took 3 weeks and could have used 4. lol. Anyway. Me=Super Nervous. Any tips for returning to work after this for those who had it done? I'm open to any and all advice!!

    Vivid Dreams

I had several nights of weird dreams the first week. Really bizarre stuff. I chalked it up to my sleep being off and being woken up at the hospital at all hours for things (they did 4 a.m. blood draws). I don't have them anymore.

    Twin Cities Marathon

You'll definitely have to do some experimenting to figure out what works for you. If your training is anything like mine, you'll have a "long" run every week. That's your chance to start incorporating all the things you will eventually need to wear/eat/drink/carry. You'll figure out which clothes chafe you, where, and how to deal with it. You'd decide between a hydration belt, hand bottle, camel back, etc. You'll hopefully have great shoes early on in the process. Just make little tweaks and improvements every long run. That's your chance to simulate what the race will be like. You do NOT want to be making any changes to your gear, hydration, or food the day of the race. Need to have that all ironed out well in advance and have practiced it many times.

    High protein HELL!!

....and you will find a number of us who were not required to do a pre-op diet. My practice has 4 very busy bariatric surgeons and they DON'T recommend the 2 week high protein diet. As you will find throughout this process, one size does not fit all. I've read about the people with huge livers, too, but like Jacqui said, it's pretty rare. Cindy

    My lungs hurt

<sigh> I've been swimming for exercise for the past few weeks, and I've noticed as my endurance increases and I do more, my lungs / chest have been hurting when I breathe (after the exercise). It's a bronchial / airway thing and I've really had it all my life (again, after I have exercised in the past). I remember feeling it in my teens and 20's, but since I've never been an exercise guru or stuck with exercising for more than a few months at a time, I never paid much attention to it. I've been trying to figure out what it is and the only thing that I can find on the internet that seems to match is exercise-induced asthma. I'm not wheezing (yet), but I am taking short breaths because it hurts to take deep ones, and it reminds me of a very mild version of bronchitis (which I've had in the past, sometimes for months on end, but not recently). Any ideas? I really don't like to exercise but I'm trying as hard as I can to keep it up. This might just be a dealbreaker unless I can figure out how to solve it.

    3 days Post op sleeve

Just wanted to introduce myself and be a part of the support group. I was sleeved Friday 3/10/17 and now 3 days Post-op. I haven't lost any weight yet, hoping it's because of inflammation or water retention or something. Looking forward to sharing my journey.
  24. Today is day 1 for my full liquid stage in my post op diet. I only remember that my Doctor said cream of wheat and yogurt and I think he said cream Soup. What else can I have on full liquid stage. I tried yogurt today and I just took Greek yogurt and mix it with Protein powder ( Cookies and cream) it was like ice cream but I wasn't able to eat more then 3 tea spoon. later on I remember my favorite lassi and add the Water to it and blend and I was able to finish this drink. what other choices I can have on full liquid stage of post op diet. THANK YOU.
