  1. So I'm not off the rails by any means, but struggling to get even a few lbs off. I'm 2 yrs & 8 months post VSG. And 4 months post LBL. Up until my LBL I'd consistently maintained a 130 lbs weight loss. Maintaining that loss was not without effort. My diet in check, track everything I eat, exercise 6 days a week. Immediately after LBL I feel like a switch got flipped. My weight bounced around a bit with the expected weight loss with my skin removal (which was minor as it truly was just skin being removed) and then the expected gain with swelling and of course lack of activity while I recovered. Nothing that concerned me. But now I'm up 7 lbs and I can't seem to shake it. I've locked down my eating, increased my water intake, I've been back to previous amount of cardio for over two months, I'm keeping a tight control on sugar and carbs which is much harder these days, getting in all my protein and still the scale isn't moving. It's like my body is intent on holding onto the extra weight. What gives!!!! I feel like if my calorie intake goes above 1,000 a day, I gain weight which is crazy. I was able to maintain eating 1200-1400 a day before. I know it's just 7 lbs, but 7 becomes 10. And fear of returning to old habits and regaining weight is always top of mind with me. I'm sure I'm not alone. Hoping this is just part of the recovery.

    so scared help me

Well at first when I was getting prepped, about 10-15 minutes before surgery they gave me a "happy shot". Whatever it was, made me super relaxed similar to laughing gas, without all the laughing lol. I felt like I was floating, I barely remember being wheeled into the OR, and the next thing you know I woke up sitting up in a comfy chair with my dress on, under a blanket, with my Mom sitting there with me. You'll be fine!

    so scared help me

6 days out, 10 lbs lighter! The first three days were utter hell. Day 4 found a reprieve from the pain. Day 5 and 6 I was human again! Piece of cake. Let the journey begin
  5. Thank you all for your words! I know my dad did not mean to hurt, and I am not letting any negativity hold me down. @Lissa- I don't work at a car loan company, why? Today is a great day, I got on the scale and realized I am down 10 lbs =) I can't wait to confirm it in my doctors scale on Tuesday. Who would have thought I would look forward to get on the doctor's scale? I love my sleeve!!! :biggrin2:

    Self payers....financing options?

I am probably fortunate that I had the moneyn savings. I had worked real estate in addition to my regular job for about 5 years so I saved a little enst egg. Having said that, I have no regrets in spending the money even though there are layoffs at my job and I will give you my reasons. A. I feel better than I have in 10 years! B. I had the first NORMAL blood sugar reading I have had in over 10 years! WOW! C. Everyone says how great I look and I know it is true. D. If I have to look for a new job employers will look at me a bit more favorably,(though I am still fat) just not as fat and just overall look better! E. I am spending a bit less on medications. F. You can't put a price on your health. If you have to use all your credit cards to do it and you know you can pay it back even if little by little, DO IT! If you have ahome see if you can get a 2nd mortgage ( i know not easy. ) If you have a 401K or 403B take a loan out against it. FInd all the crap in your house you don't use and sell in on e-bay or Craigs List. I mean EVERYTHING! Have a yard sale and out the money away. STart cooking more and don't go out to eat and save that money. Turn off your cell phone or cable or Netflix for afew months and start saving $$. JUst my 2 cents.)

    Success stories, please.

Hi! I started this journey weighing 258 lbs and in the 6 weeks pre-op I lost 23 lbs, which put me at 235 on surgery day. The surgical experience couldn't have been any better. I was up walking the halls 1 1/2 hours post-op. Minimal pain. It just felt like I had done a TON of sit ups. I know some people have a horrible time with gas pain, but I had none. I spent one night in hospital and was discharged first thing in the morning. The best things you can do is move - walk, walk, walk, get some sleep, and keep sipping your water! Post-op things have gone well. Track your fluid and protein intake and aim for getting in a little more each day. I'm 10 weeks post-op now and just entered "onederland". I now weigh 198.6 So 36 lbs since surgery! I feel amazing and am so happy with my decision to have surgery as well as how things have gone! I couldn't have dreamed of a better experience. My best advice is to take good "before" pictures of yourself - face and full body - and take measurements! That way when the scale seems to be stuck, you can track progress in other ways. Pulling on jeans that I couldn't get over my hips a couple months ago is the greatest feeling! Good luck with your surgery!! Keep us all posted on how things go!
  13. Congrats on your recent surgery! As far as tips.....I say stick to your plan.....but don't be afraid to alter it a bit for you if you find something that works better....For example, my surgeon's plan allows for all foods, but for me I have better weight loss if I stick to very low carb. So I don't eat breads, Pasta, rice, or starchy veggies.....and of course no sweets. I also walk (a lot)!!! I average between 8 and 10 miles a day. I don't do it all at one time but I do two big walks a day....once first thing in the morning and again in the evening. And then throughout the day my little dog needs a couple of little walks. :-) Good luck to you!!!

    Success stories, please.

April 2016 I weighed 271.5 - I'm 5'3". I was 5x5. I was squeezing into size 22 pants. Had surgery 8/23/16. I'm 9 months post-op and 94.9 pounds down from my high weight and about 25 pounds from my goal. The size 10 jeans I just bought are getting big and I've given all my 12s to my daughter who is a senior in High School. The first week or two was tough. But your body is healing from major surgery. Be patient and kind to yourself. When I look at photos of last year versus now, I can't believe its the same person. It will come off one pound at a time. You got this.
  15. Oh awesome! That's great you don't have to do the 6 month program I have the same issue... every time I really try on a program, I lose 8-10 lbs. I get frustrated and gain it all back and usually more. I already did my sleep apnea study and I have been using a machine. I actually have already been seeing a cardiologist too but am having some trouble with them giving me clearance. They want me to do one more stress test before they give me cardiac clearance but my insurance keeps denying this last test I'm trying to appeal it but we shall see...

    Feeling Great

I had my surgery early Thursday (Nov. 10) morning and I'm feeling great. The surgery lasted less than one hour and by 1:00 p.m. I was home in my own bed a little bit and walking a little bit. I spent most of Friday out of bed walking around the house. Saturday I didn't lay down at all. Pain is minimal. Today is Sunday and I plan to go to work tomorrow. I had previously had a gallbladder surgery and was expecting that type of pain, but it was nowhere close. What a great experience this has been so far. Much better than I had anticipated. And I've lost 10 pounds in these last few days - which I am sure is mostly Fluid - but who cares it is weight loss. Hope all the others having surgery in the next few days, weeks, months, years have the same experience as I have had. Carolyn

    Belching?

Why after 10 months I am still constantly belching? It has become so normal I don't even realize I am doing it. Last night in bed my husband said, " I could not stand to belch like that all the time!". So he was saying I am sick of listening to this. What am I doing to cause this? I even belch after I drink.
  20. i am in the same boat. 10 months post, scale hasn't moved in almost 3 months. however, since january i have been taking two of the MOST stressful and difficult classes in my nurse practitioner program, and definitely stress eating. i can eat ALL foods, i have no restrictions from my program, and my body does ok with everything except really fatty things, which will dump ( i have had literally a TINY thumbnail size of cheesecake and it flew through me)!! I am recognizing that first, i have been cheating, two, i have been eating my stress, three, i have wavered BIG TIME with my exercise, and lastly, i have lost focus. classes are wrapping up, i will be taking one minimally hard class during spring/summer. this is my chance to get back on the program, kick my exercise WAYYYY back up, start my food diary again, increase Water, etc. i am also thinking about meeting with my nut again to get her input.
  21. My surgeon's office called and my surgery time is at 10:00am Monday morning. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the number on my caller ID.
  22. Awesome! Thanks for sharing my sleeve date is August 18 th.I'm so excited I wanna be able to play with my 10 grandstands!
  23. Thanks. I am on the pre-op 14 day shakes from New Directions and it sits in my mouth and I have a hard time swallowing it - this is pre-surgery lol. I found that Muscle Milk isn't banana cream that you get in the grocery store milk area is about the same and I bought one and had that for lunch. I have 10 more days of this and since I'm not liking it, it's going to be rough. Luckily after surgery I can go back to Pure Protein 100% Whey Protein, but I was thinking of trying GNC's unflavored one to add to things like instant mashed potatoes & Cream of Wheat for the mushy phase!

    Kaiser

I'm going through KP Richmond (NorCal). It has gone very smoothly so far! Orientation class/first NUT appt was on 8/4, surgical consultation (Dr. Mostaedi) on 8/12, psych eval and RN coordinator appts on 9/1 (I was at goal weight so I was able to do both on the same day), and VSG is scheduled for 10/5. It's been kindof a whirlwind!
  25. Try to lose what you can if you have to go through pre-op diets for the surgeon, or the insurance, or whoever anyway. It can only make things easier. I started off with the goal of losing 40 pounds during my required six months of diet visits (10% of my starting body weight). As of this morning, I have lost 93 pounds, and my surgery is two weeks from today. My insurance didn't require it; my surgeon didn't require it; I just did it for myself. (Partially to prove that I could do it, and partially because transitioning from a low-carb diet to life after surgery will be a hell of a lot easier than going from my old everything-goes diet to life after surgery.) I'm still scared of the actual surgery day, but I am going into it knowing that I have done everything I can possibly do to put myself in the best position possible as a patient. Good luck!
