  1. Handed in 07 lost all my weight. Over all the years band slipped and reflux issues. Gained half back due to pregnancies. Revised four months ago to bypass. The quality of life is sooo much better, I am so happy that I can actually feel full and not in pain!
  2. I'm a cross fitter and a band to bypass revision. I moved at the same time as surgery and I'm finding it hard to get childcare to watch my toddlers to go to class. I'm also getting married in sept and my box know that I won't go back until after the wedding and kids go to school. They don't know I had a revision so I guess it will be a shock! Like you I couldn't lose the weight with cross fit and healthy excercise, they should support you whatever and work around your needs. It should b a supportive environment!
  3. I just found out yesterday that my port completely flipped over and i will need to have surgery to fix it. My dr wants to to move the location of my port as well. Right now it is on the right side, about an inch above my belly button. I know this location is common. This dr, who did not do my lap band surgery, wants to relocate it to the middle, right below my sternum or below the center of my rib cage. He says its the best location to ensure no flipping. I never heard of a port in this spot and im worried that it will be more noticiable. Does anyone have their port in this location or know of anyone who does?? Please help! Im so nervous!

    Band to bypass approved today

You are going to love the bypass! I was revised from band to rny may 2014. I am below my goal weight which is a normal bmi. I wear a size 6 and honestly I am so much healthier than I was with the band. The band worked for me but I could never lose the last 20 pounds and I had a lot of sliming and throwing up. I have had no sliming and haven't thrown up at all! It's so much easier than the band. Wish I had done it first lol good luck!

    Post surgery CrossFit questions

Hi all- I am awaiting LapBand to Sleeve revision. I currently crossfit 3-4 days per week, and I am wondering if I am going to be able to do that post surgery. It's an activity that I love and it would kill me to give it up. Also, if you did crossfit before surgery, how did you break the news to your coaches and friends at CF that you were taking the surgical route? I'm scared of what their reaction is going to be. Thanks! Amanda

Band to sleeve in one procedure

I had to get 2.2 cc out of my band :-/ I'm still getting some stomach pain with solids but it's hit and miss it seems. I called the nurse yesterday and he said go on liquids for 24 hours to see if that helps. So that's what I'm doing now. I guess I must still be irritated? I am starting to think my best option really will be to try for the revision from band to sleeve. I did gain about 3 pounds since I had to get Fluid out of the band, but now I'm back down to where I was the day I went in to get UNfilled. So I guess that's good. My biggest fear besides a band slip is gaining weight back.
  8. Today, for the first time in 24 years, I weigh < 200 lbs! I am a band to bypass revision patient. Surgery was 3/23/15 and including the 15 I lost right before surgery, I'm down 60 lbs. It was quite emotional for me, but very uplifting too. I'm off my b/p meds and working out 5-6 days a week. I feel GREAT and this bypass is the best the decision ever! thanks for listening to me Celebrate

    Liquid Diet

I believe I was truly meant to see this post, I start my 2 week pre op diet first thing in the morning, and I just finished my last meal, came home and packed my "lunch" for tomorrow and decided to see what I could read before I get ready for bed. My husband and I live east of Houston, and I just made my husband go out in the "storm" so I could have my favorite thing Mexican food, for my last meal. I have not and did not pig out tonight, matter of fact I did really good, except for the chips and green sauce I had. That was my cheat. I have the Lap Band and I am being revised to the sleeve on July 1st. I have had my band since 2003. So I did a 3 day liquid diet before my band, but no where as strict as the liquid diet I will start tomorrow! I do am very worried about the next few weeks, but my BFF did this same thing last year and she keeps telling me after the first 4 days it gets easier, and I can believe that, just worried about those first 4 days!!! Now that I am done rambling, I just want to say, thank you... Just reading your post encouraging Roseluv3 and others, has also made me feel like I can do this! Here we go!!
  10. I am scared and excited approved for revision. All fluid taken out of band 10 c. pre op assessment 2 July along with dietician meeting to discuss pre op diet think the revision will be mid August anyone else in August
  11. do your research and don't depend on comments from anyone . each person has to make their decision based on how they think they will do. The difference is how drastic you want to go. Lapband is no walk in the park either and unless your are sure you can be pretty compliant you may opt for something else. I did not want to have a radical rearrangement of my intestines or removal of my stomach. My husband had esophageal cancer last year and keeping his nutrition up was a major problem. Had he only had 20% of his stomach I doubt he would have survived. long term thinking is important. Lapband is revisable or removable if necessary. the other surgeries are for life.

    Salem/Mcminnville Oregon?

I went to a nurse practitioner here in Salem for a couple of lap band fills when I was still banded, and she knew of Dr Tersigni in Coos Bay, since I was asking about revisions, and she recommended him, however my insurance approved me to go to the OHSU bariatric surgery program for my emergency lap band removal, and after I completed their program to have the gastric sleeve done, my insurance wouldn't cover surgery there, and we appealed but nothing happened. So I was planning on going to Mexico again because I was desperate, but then I remembered Coos Bay, and when we called they were so helpful! Dr Tersigni has been performing weight loss surgery for over 15 years, and his program and facility have the Center of Excellence label. And his coordinators have been completely helpful through the process. And at the time we did not know of Dr Higa, or we would have checked him out too! Sorry that is such a long explanation!!

Band to sleeve question. Please help.

I had my band removed separately from my sleeve (band removed in April and will get sleeve at the end of the month). I don't think it was called a revision but my insurance was billed separately for 2 surgeries. Not sure if that helps you but my understanding is that the insurance companies require all of the same pre-op things (supervised diet, psych, etc.) before approval even if it is all done in one surgery. Edit to say that I also had a different insurance for my band placement in 2007 and my removal and sleeve in 2015. Hope that is helpful. I don't think that they care about this as long as your insurance doesn't have an exclusion. Your surgeon's office will write a history and they will hear about everything and consider it.,
  14. Hi all! I just sent in my request for a consult for LapBand to Gastric Sleeve Revision surgery! Now I have some important questions: I've been doing CrossFit for the past 2+ years & I intend on continuing after surgery. Are there any fellow crossfitters here? I am wondering how soon after surgery you went back to class & how long until you were back to lifting your pre-surgery numbers? I don't want to lose all of the progress I've made so far at CrossFit. I also am feeling very much like a failure because I couldn't lose the weight by just following a healthy eating plan and exercising. How do you deal with the crossfit critics? I haven't told anyone at my gym yet because I'm scared of their responses. Help!! Thanks! Amanda

    Surgery and experience advice

I never had the revision. The sleeve is my first go at wls, but it has 100% changed my life. You can read about my journey - the challenges and the successes in my blog (linked in siggy) - but I would go for it! It is an amazing tool, and as long as you are willing to put in the time an effort to do the emotional work as well you will be a great success with the sleeve. Good luck to you!!!
  16. Yeah, I've never met anyone who had the revision done and didn't love it. Not a lot of regrets.
  17. I had surgery on Dec 17th and was 422 at the time of surgery, and 491 at my highest (2.5 months prior to surgery). As for what my surgeon and I discussed... We haven't really talked about my starting weight and what that means for my journey much, except at the very beginning when deciding what type of surgery I should have. I think some people who have more to lose end up getting Gastric Bypass, but my surgeon suggested the Gastric Sleeve because he said that Gastric Bypass was a one-shot deal. You have that surgery and then your outcome is whatever your outcome is, generally speaking. With Gastric Sleeve, if I end up hitting a long-term stop in weight loss, there are further surgical options for me at that point, I guess VSG revisions or possibly Gastric Bypass as a last resort? Anyway, I'm going to be six months out tomorrow and have lost a total of 115 lbs in those 6 months and a total of 184 lbs in the past 8.5 months. I'm not sure if these results are typical for someone of my starting size (or anyone for that matter?) I get the feeling that it really varies for everyone. I'm only part-way through my journey, but if I could give you any advice, I'd say that as long as you're following your diet plan, physical exercise is going to be the major factor in how successful you are. I have not hit a point where I can slack off at the gym for a few days and it doesn't effect my overall weekly loss. Any slow-downs in loss for me are DIRECTLY related to how much exercise I do, and how closely I follow my dietitian's guidelines. (Apart from period/hormone-related Water retention from time to time - but that's just life as a girl!)

    SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION

I am so happy I found this thread. I am in the pre-op stage of revising from my sleeve to bypass. I read about "mini-bypass" what is that exactly and how is it different from a regular bypass? I saw it mentioned a few times. I loved my sleeve 2012 until this year. My GERD is soooo bad its really becoming a problem. I am on 4 different medications that I take more then once a day and most days with no relief. My pouch spasms... and I am doubled over in pain. I am using a different surgeon this time around because when I went to my surgeon with these concerns he looked at me like I was crazy and got defensive. I am concerned about complications. I didn't want to re-route my insides the first time around and am still on the fence but then the pain comes and I can not wait to get the revision! I have 2 more appointments this week and then I am done. Hopefully they can submit everything ASAP and my insurance doesn't give me a hard time. Fingers and toes crossed. Today my nutirionist told me that weight loss would be minimal if at all. I can still lose at least 30 pounds and be at my goal so I am hoping I at least reach that. She also said that my banana shaped sleeve would now be more like a shot glass and only hold 3-4 ounces. She said that it wouldn't "stretch" much since they removed the stretchy part of the stomach when i had the sleeve. I love reading everyone's comments, good and bad.
  19. Mine for my band and my revision to sleeve was Dr. Matthew Martin and I had the surgery done at Wesley Long Hospital.

    Drains?

I didn't have one for my band but I did for my band to sleeve revision. They pulled it out the morning I went home. It was a pain and they had to pin it up to my gown so I could do my walking in the hallways or it was banging on my knees. That incision is still the sore one 2 weeks later.

    Gerd and hernia repair

When I originally had my band done back in 2012 the surgeon told me that he thought my GERD was related to a hernia and if it was when he got in there he was going to fix it. It was and he did. I had a revision to a sleeve 2 weeks ago and have had no problems with GERD. None since the hernia repair.

Band to sleeve question. Please help.

I agree that you would have to check with them. I have Anthem BCBS and my band to sleeve revision was covered just like my original band was. My surgeon just put on the forms that my band malfunctioned.

    Need advice / apprehensive

I had my revision on June 1 so I'm 2 weeks out. I am totally happy so far. With the band I was throwing up all the foods I was supposed to eat and was eating anything that would stay down so I was gaining. After 3 months of trying to get the band adjusted my surgeon and I made the decision to switch. I've lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks. So far I have had zero instances of throwing up or nausea or anything and I have been able to tolerate a lot of foods. I haven't found anything that is bothering me yet. My surgeon used the same incisions as the band so I don't have new incisions. He took the band out and did the sleeve in the same surgery. I was in the hospital for two days and then home. No complications at this point.

    Need advice / apprehensive

I wanted to back out too! After I had my revision and my doctor told me what a horrible state my stomach was in from that band I am so happy I went through with it. I would have ended up with emergency surgery eventually. And I had no idea that my band had caused that damage. The surgery and recovery was way easier than I thought. I am very happy I did it. I now have a tool that works the way I dreamed the band would but never did. I feel so much better with that band gone.
  25. I say get it!! I had the revision in February. Recovery was easy and since we've already been through it before, I already knew what to do and expect. Just happy to get the band out before any serious complications. And with the sleeve, I feel "full" not stuck. Just go for it!! Good luck ????????
