A yogurt with too much sugar. 9 carbs once you subtract the fiber, and 15 grams of Protein. Not really worth it, unless you are adding protein powder to balance out the carb content. This is deceptive advertising. According to the website it's actually "zero added sugar " and zero artificial sweetener. It uses stevia instead. The container does have 7gms of sugar. That likely comes from the milk that they use to make the product. Personally I don't find the nutritional totals to be bad. I eat yogurt almost daily. However I can 18gms of protein for half the calories & carbs with none of the artificial fillers and additives in a comparable container of FAGE 0%.

I have confirmed the diet with Both NUT's at the hospital as well as the surgeon. It's clear liquids, liquids, puréed, soft, then "real" foods. Adding powdered milk and powdered egg whites to milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I trust my surgeon-he is a professor who teaches up-and-comers how to perform bariatric surgery, has years and years of experience with thousands of surgeries under his belt. It is a very recognized bariatric center of excellence. I would not enter into this lightly without doing my research-I have been looking into everything from every angle-positive and negative. I have been to support groups and spoken with SEVERAL of his previous patients who have had great success following the plan. I was just wondering if anyone else had similar instructions, not looking for negative comments about how my team is clueless. What works for one may not for another...

Do you eat Yogurt? What brand? What sort of toppings do you add to it?
Stevehud replied to scarletwitch19's topic in Food and Nutrition
To me anything over 1 maybe 2 g of sugar is considered high in sugar and I prefer completely sugar-free if possible. now in maintenance phase it might be acceptable to me. But I have had a lot of success so far and been able to keep my weight loss working with minimal stalls, ( yes everyone has to deal with them as we all know) Now while I truly believe in the natural sugars are much better than added sugars, avoiding sugars , even natural ones, is that much better and helps greatly to keep me on track. The Low glycemic effect is fine if you are a diabetic and you are avoiding spikes in blood sugars, but make no mistake, low glycemic index does not mean better for you, It simply means the sugars are more complex and require more time to be digested and absorbed into the blood. Think of them as time release sugars, so while they don't hit your bloodstream all at once like say straight glucose etc, they do last longer in your blood and give you a higher sugar/blood baseline. Here's the biggest hint, sugar in your bloodstream all acts in the same general way in the metabolization and utilization of sugars and fats etc. SO basically once your body pulls sugars or even sugar alcohols, into your bloodstream, the sugars all act in the exact same way. Low glycemic index is just a way of saying the sugar enters your bloodstream at a slower rate, but it still enters your bloodstream as all sugars do, and in the same way. I realize that many people cannot or will not choose to live with this low sugar low fat, low carb way that I do, and I respect that, as we say everyone's journey is their own, and that is as it must be. What helped change my mind on sugar is the fact that we have a hard time grasping how much sugar is a gram? Sure it is a number, but what does that number really mean? This next statement is what made me change the way I handle sugars. 4 grams of sugar is the same as 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar. So I hold that image in my head when I look at sugars on a label. 8 grams of sugar in your yogurt, or any product, equals two whole teaspoonfuls of granulated sugar. And even if the glycemic index is lower, it still all goes to the same place, it just takes more time to get there. I am not trying to evangelize, or change anyone's mind, or make you feel bad or anything, I promise. But these are the reasons I do what I do, and eat how I eat. I hope that I have been able to explain this without coming off as a butthead or arrogant. I know my posts have a tendency to come out that way. -
No, I delivered all 4 kids vaginally so I can't compare it to a c-section. But I take similar precautions when moving/shifting in bed like I did during/after delivery. I do have some gas. I can feel it in my chest/upper abdomen. At first I thought it was heartburn, but it wasn't. It just kind of sits there, so I've gotten up periodically to walk in the hopes that it will dissipate. I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. Everyone's liquid diets appear to be different. Mine didn't allow meals, so yogurt was not allowed. Instead it was protein drinks, jello, and broth; however I never had broth. DH did have broth when he was on his 2 week diet. If I recall my husband did have yogurt during his post-op diet.

9 weeks out and only getting about 600 calories in daily
meowmers replied to maysleever2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT suggested higher fat content dairy products - 2% milk, 2% milkfat greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc., to help with reaching the calorie goal if you're struggling. -
When to worry about vomiting from food stuck?
Daisee68 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, I have had a rough few days - again. Vomited Saturday from 3 bites of deli turkey (didn't do anything to keep it moist). Vomited Sunday after eating chicken breast cooked in crockpot (again, wasn't moist enough I guess) and again tonight from deli ham. This time I did have the ham pretty moist with some Laughing Cow cheese, but honestly I knew 2 bites in that it wasn't going to work. Did I stop though? No. I had 2 more bites and then threw it away and tried some hummus because I couldn't possibly have had enough food, but after only a bite I knew it was too late. The thing is, I keep seeing I need to be increasing my calories (still getting in only 500-600 each day) and I just don't have any idea how to do that if I can't keep solid foods down. (Thursday will be 7 weeks post-op.) Combined with some crazy abdomen pain last night, I googled it (bad idea I know) and scared myself deciding I could have an internal hernia. So, I don't need to be scared into seeing the dr. I know I can do that (though my doc is out of town, her partner is great) - and trust me if I ever get that kind of abdomen pain again, I will absolutely go to the ER. But I guess what I am trying to figure out is how normal this vomiting thing is after eating meat at this stage? I am hoping you all say it is totally normal at 7 weeks and it will get better but in the meantime, any suggestions to get more food in? I have been successful with slider foods (yogurt, pudding, hummus, etc.) and oddly pimento cheese goes down very well (essentially a pureed food really). And I can do shakes but just feel like I should be progressing with foods by now. Help! -
75 Pounds Down Today -- I Love My Band!

Dfaulkner, I have an incredible sweet tooth too, I have something sweet every day. (MnM's are my kryptonite ! Sigh...........) I just finally gave up trying to fight it, and just limit my portion. I love WW ice cream, Yasso brand frozen yogurt bars, and anything crunchy and/or sweet. Try looking up "diabetic desserts" for healthier ideas, and while I've never tried "Stevia " sweetner in anything beside a cup of tea, ive heard it's just as sweet as sugar but better for you. Good luck ! -
Yay! Stage 1 complete! Have you had a c section? Does it feel like that? Do you have gas pain? How long were you on liquids to shrink your liver? I start liquids tomorrow (for a week). Still trying to figure out what to "drink"? Is fat free yogurt ok? I really need to look at my preop paperwork!!!!

Do you eat Yogurt? What brand? What sort of toppings do you add to it?
scarletwitch19 replied to scarletwitch19's topic in Food and Nutrition
All yogurts aren't high in sugar. Plain greek yogurts such as Fage have around 8g sugar per serving. And a serving is 1cup, which is alot of yogurt. I eat 1/2c. -

@@Stevehud, what kind of sugary yogurt are you looking at? -
Is it on the food plan from your NUT or surgeon? Probably not, especially the shell. If you can have ground beef, add some taco seasoning and salsa. Add a dollop of Greek yogurt, top with some shredded low fat cheddar and you can have your fix.

What do you eat in a day? How many calories are you getting in? I'd like to see breakdowns of others' typical food in the day. I'm 7 weeks out (HW 352 SW 338 CW 306) and on the soft food diet. I workout around 1hr, 5x a week. I'm having trouble getting enough calories in. My nutritionist never gave a specific on calories, more focused on Protein however based on everything I've read I'm thinking around 800 calories would be reasonable. I'm not a big fan of shakes, especially mixed with milk, so I think this is where I'm losing some calories. I mix my powder with 0 calorie crystal light so they only end up being around 115 calories. This is a typical day for me, foodwise: 630 am Protein shake 930 am yogurt 12 pm chicken and/or Beans 1/2 cup 3 pm protein shake 6 pm chicken and/or beans, with a tablespoon of veggies 1/2 - 3/4 cup I've been tracking with my fitness pal and I'm getting around 600-650 calories a day. I know this isn't enough, especially with how much I'm working out. What does your day look like? Are you able to get enough calories in? If I'm working out an hr/day is 800 calories enough?

Pureed foods, really?
hockeyfan7 replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on liquids and purees at the same time. I had to be able to drink Protein shake on the morning of day 3 to be able to leave the hospital. My list was Protein shakes, Greek yogurt, broth, cream soups and a few other things I don't remember. I went to soft foods like scrambled eggs on day 8 and then on solid foods on day 10. My surgeon's plan is solid foods between day 10 and day 14. He doesn't like for people to stay on liquids for very long - he wants us to begin to learn to eat solids and the right solids as soon as possible. -

considering going vegetarian, need some advice
BLERDgirl replied to pookybear's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
I am vegetarian and deathly allergic to seafood. Highly processed foods tend to trigger my allergies. My Protein comes from Beans, tofu, seitan, dark green veg, grains, nuts, dairy (mostly cheese and yogurt) & eggs. I don't drink/like cow's milk, but I do eat greek yogurt. I prefer FAGE 0%. I also supplement with whey Protein powder. It takes being creative, but I have no problem keeping my protein between 85 - 100 gms. My carbs are often high, but as long as they aren't coming from "white" or heavily refined sources I don't worry about them. I am also allergic to artificial sugars and stevia. I don't often add sugar to my foods. I do eat fruit several times a week. When I do add sugar use either real sugar or raw honey. At 10mths I keep my calories between 800 - 1000 a day and work out 5 - 6 days a week. @@pookybear - You could try having Meatless Monday's with your boyfriend. Look for meaty textures like portabello mushroom and filling grains like quinoa and farro. -
Ok so I am 11 days out and discovered I have lactose sensitivity or intolerance, which sucks because I am on protein shakes and Greek yogurt and applesauce. I stocked up on rtd premier shakes which apparently have a milk base so of course it makes me nauseous. Then the yogurt turns my sleeve in all kind of ways then bam I'm making a mad dash to the bathroom not knowing which end it's gonna come out of. I'm so confused but I have an appointment with my doc tomorrow to discuss my options, but the good thing is I go to puree stage in 2 days. Fighting this head hunger and can only have sweet stuff like sf jello and sf popsicles an unsweetened applesauce is killing me. I also added in Prevacid to stop the gurgling in my stomach makes me nauseous as well. Humph I can't win for loose here. The struggle is real here but is almost over. Stats HW 343 SW 331 CW 314.5 It appears I am loosing about 2 lbs a day so that's good but wow I wanna eat so bad. If anybody ever say this is the easy way out I want to smack them. This by far is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. Just fighting the head hunger alone is so hard especially when your family is endulging in yummy stuff that you just can't have and half of the time you have to prepare it for them. Pureed foods, really?
NikkiDoc replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Blended Wendy's chili was good. I had 10 days pre-op full liquid. Post op was 1 week clear liquid, 1 week full liquid then 1 week pureed. So I am going to echo everyone else being able to have pureed is pretty good. I did not like the baby food. I didn't mind the pureed chicken salad. I sometimes bought the buffalo chicken or chipotle chicken flavored for variety. I would also put a tiny bit of bbq sauce in with the mayo to puree. Pureed egg salad is good. I added some Guldens mustard for a little flavor. Cottage cheese and yogurt were good. Pureed soups were okay. I did like homemade split pea Soup or bean soup since I make those pretty thick. A couple of bites and I was full. As I got closer to the soft foods stage I would blend it a little bit less so there were very small soft pieces in the puree. I did use Protein shakes for at least one meal a day during the puree stage. I was drinking a Protein shake a day until about 4.5 months in just to make sure I was getting my protein. -
I drink a chocolate Premier protein drink for lunch every day. I'd never reach my protein goal for the day if I didn't (75gm). I like it very cold so I pour it over ice. I don't like the vanilla or strawberry, but I've never liked those favors. I buy mine at Costco @ 18 for $24.99 and sometimes they are on sale. I was using Body Fortress vanilla protein powder before my surgery and made some great shakes with it and different SF syrups and PB3, but after surgery I just didn't like the stuff. Don't stock up on anything in excess because you might reject it after surgery. I bought unjury chicken flavor and only used it a few times and also unflavored which I mix with yogurt at times. I have more protein powder mix than I'll probably ever use!

Pureed foods, really?
DreaDH replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly, if you offered me most of what I was eating during my "purée" phase before surgery and even now I would probably turn my nose up at it but after being on liquids for almost a month (pre and post) I was THRILLED to have that stupid pea soup! Haha. I am pescatarian so I stuck to pureed soups, beans, yogurt, ricotta, etc so I never tried the blended meat option but it didn't sound very appetizing. However, by the time you are able to get to purees I think you'll be happy to eat something (anything) new.
