    Not Sure I Do This

I really believe the benefits more then outweigh the risks. If you follow your Dr's pre and post-op instructions to the letter, without interpretation or rationalization you should do fine. Poop happens.... but leaks are rare. I'm not a religious person... but God knows your needs and challenges. Don't live your life in fear. Good luck with your decision. Start losing weight now.... while you're deciding. Even a 5% weight loss makes a huge difference in your risks.

    Getting soooo scared of failure

There were many months at a time that I would stall completely...not losing a pound, or worse gaining a few. When this happens the best thing to do is shake things up. Add in more exercise, or change the way you are eating. Giving up is not an option! You will get there as long as you don't quit. Good luck! Keep your chin up...and don't stress about what others think about you. The only person who can determine your self worth is well....your self!
  4. The best revenge is success. But I get what you are going through. My family (Mom, Dad, and Brother) can't stand it when good things happen to me. They have sabotaged every important event in my life. So I cut them out of my life. They don't even know that I'm loosing weight. It's really sad but I've had to accept it. I have changed my life for the better I've lost many friends along the way as. Some say that people like that aren't really your friends, but one day I looked up and everyone was gone. That made me sad. So I've built a new life for myself, a nice man in my life, a daughter, and many other great things to come.

    upset

Here's something I copied from ButterTheBean (a veteran sleever): If your weight loss has stalled, read THIS. You are certainly not alone. I've been in a stall for 6 weeks. I thought I had it conquered at one point, but now I'm right back where I was, number-wise.

    No fill?

I was banded 3/11/13 an still waiting for first fill. Went to first folliw-up app. couple weeks ago an after asking me about being hungry, an how much I was eating she said to run with it for another month. Next app. is 5/2. Still maintaining weightoss of around 20 lbs. since surgery...havent gained or lost any more for awhile now but my BS numbers are drastically improved an thats the main priority for me right now so Im good with it all.
  7. I go to my 2nd dietician appt. on Thursday. I'm certain I've gained weight. To make it worse, the scale at the doctor is always a few lbs more than the one I have at home, so I'm quite certain it will be ugly. Is this going to blow the whole process for me? I know I have several more months of pre-op left. My (starts with -H-) insurance requires that I have to do 6 months cumulative, 3 of which must be consecutive, of medically supervised weight loss & exercise. Is a weight gain this early in the game going to reset the clock? This happen to anyone else?? Thanks.
  8. I have to admit, I've been lurking these forums for a while as I worked to complete my pre-op dieting phase and go through the lengthy and stress inducing insurance approval. I had all the paperwork requested but gained 2 pounds during the dieting phase and was nervous I wouldnt get approved. That paired with the weeks of waiting, the request for an additional PCP letter and Aetna not properly reviewing the back-up my insurance coordinator gave them just made me think my surgery would ever come to frutiion. I thought it was a bad omen to post before I got approved so I lurked (and read every insurance post on this site). Today my surgical coordinator called to let me know the Aetna nurse is approving my surgery and the paperwork will be processed tomorrow. I feel like a HUGE weigh has been lifted. I am slated for a July 31 sleeve and am super nervous and excited all at once! It's been quite a journey thus far -- from starting with the firm mindset of getting a band to then changing my mind to a sleeve. All the doctor visitis and running around for paper work- I cant believe this phase is complete. My main worry now is finding a Protein shake I like and getting all my Vitamins before I leave for Italy for 2 weeks. As soon as I get back I start the liquid diet. I have also opted not to tell anyone beyond 3 people about my surgery. I am wondering the type of reliance I will need on another person after the surgery. I was thinking that I likely need someone home with me for three days -- any thoughts on this? I know everyone is different but I know I cant do it alone and am wodering if anyone has advice based on experience. Thank you. I am happy to be no longer lurking!
  9. I am a little more than two months post-op with two fills under my belt and I can still eat a normal sized portion. I have noticed that the amount of food I can eat has been greatly reduced, but I have yet to experience resistance or eating two bites of food and feeling full. I'm losing weight, but not as much as I thought I would seeing as my surgery was recent. How long did it take all of you to get to a point where you were eating tiny amounts of food or feeling resistance from the band? For the record, I have an 8cc band and am 5.5 cc filled.
  10. This is a question for those of you sleevers who have lost a significant amount of weight or gotten to goal and MAINTAINED for a long period of time. You may have busted through that initial plateau and continued to lose to get to goal. Now you're maintaining and hopefully loving it... My question is, where are your calories and macronutrients (Protein, carbs, fats) now, and how did you get them there? Did you slowly raise them and lose/maintain while doing so? Have you brought carbs back up to a more "normal" place? Have your portion sizes changed? Also, now that you're so far out from your surgery, do you go to your original doc/nutritionist for guidance, a personal trainer, new nutritionist/coach, or are you deciding your calories/macros on your own?
  11. to my understanding I feel people do this surgery to lose weight and correct other medical conditions like daibities or blood pressure etc etc.... but the only reason I wanna do this surgery is to lose weight ... I don't have any kinda medical condition I weight 219 lbs currently ... and have been overweight since my childhood ... is it really worth doin this surgery if u don't have any medical conditions ????
  12. In my opinion, it depends on how overweight you are. I have no medical conditions caused by my weight but I was 347 lbs and 5'7". Not healthy! Eventually it would have caused medical problems so I paid for my own surgery to curtail that. My insurance doesn't pay for any wls unfortunately so I have a 5 yr loan but will hopefully add many more years to my life. I'm excited to see what the future holds as I continue to lose, I am already way more active with my kids and husband.
  13. Hi fellow "bandsters". I was banded 14 days ago today and feel like it was the best decision I have ever made!! I am so excited to be starting my new life!! :0) I feel like I have gotten the "making healthy food choices" down, but its the exercise part that I struggle with. I use my wii and my Xbox kinect to exercise occasionally, but I find it hard to get motivated. After 37 years, I know myself pretty well and I know I need some accountability. :0) I NEED someone to have meet to walk or exercise with. Whether its through the park, at the gym, or around the mall, around a track or just down the street knowing someone is depending on me to show up will get me there and motivated. I am the queen of excuses when there's no one waiting for me to exercise with…just ask my dog. Lol That being said, is there anyone in the Princeton, Trenton, Hamilton NJ aren't hat would like to meet up on a regular basis and exercise? It doesn't have to be at a gym, organized, or even strenuous. Just some regularly scheduled physical activity that can boost our metabolism and our weight loss.

    6 Month Update

Great update! Although I am 8 months out, I can relate to a number of things you posted here. I didn't tell anyone about my surgery except for my family and I know my staff are seriously wondering how I have dropped all of my weight. Whatever .. I made it my decision not to say anything. That is my comfort zone. I also related to the eating little in the morning and more in the evening time. I have no idea what my caloric intake is but I think like you .. it balances out in the end. My weight continues to drop. The last one was the hair loss. I really started shedding pretty badly around the 5-6 month mark and only now does it appear to be waning. Talk about a panic .. my hair is very long and very full and even my hairdresser noticed the difference. It's starting to come back though. I can see the new growth. Anyway, best to you. You are doing great!

    What to eat?

Mcnaira44 I don't know if you use a tracking system or not but I find it very very useful. I use FatSecret.com only because it has a lot of other info, recipes etc that I like. I have a sleeve and used the tracking system to put my I days food intake in the morning. What I like is that it has almost every food, every food company and even will tally up your own recipe . I keep my carbs at 40 or under for the day, my calories at 750 or under, and my Protein at 70 or over. This way you can pretty much eat the food you want to eat but you know when you have reached your limit for the day. I often have to re-think my meal item and sometimes come up with a different plan. Today I wanted to include a desert apple into my evening snack. I had thought of apple dumplings but they have pie crust so I recalculated it and came up with a way to use diet soda boiled down to a syrup, peeled and cut up apples that I will cook in the diet soda syrup and add some pumpkin pie seasoning. I will eat a 1/2 cup full and I will still be within my limits and in fact a bit under . I couldn't have figured that out without the tracking system. I would always be over eating what I should by guessing. I also always include a muscle milk Protein shake either for breakfast or mid day. (20 g protein, 130 calories, 5 grams carbs and less than 1 gram sugar). I have gained about 20 lbs in the last couple years because I wasn't watching my intake...not tracking my food. Back at it and in just a couple days I am down 4 lbs.

  18. Hello, everyone! I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I am in the process of getting my list checked off for approval for RNY. I will be having my surgery in Des Moines, Iowa at Mercy Hospital once I get through the process. I have done two NUT vists, a psych eval, met with my surgeon, and done most of my scheduled tests. It is a long story, but I actually don't know if I will need 3 months OR 12 months (!) of supervised diet for insurance approval. (Again, it is a long, curse word inducing story- I will post in insurance issues more about it maybe.) I am 5'8 and weigh about 280 lbs at present. I was always UNDER weight as a kid and until my first child. People actually used to tease me for being too thin. (I feel like I have somehow conquered that particular issue though- probably by eating it. Lol!!!!) After doing the diet -lose it -regain it and more thing for 20 years I guess I was just plain ready to get real about sh*t. Obviously, what I had been doing wasn't working. That notion led me to doing better research than the FBI for the past year or so on weight loss surgery and its options. After much soul searching, nail biting and head scratching I made the decision that the only worse things I could do was: 1. do nothing at all and 2. ignore the problem. So here I am. I want to thank you all for letting me stalk a bit before saying hello and I look forward to getting to know you!

    Delaware Anyone

How was your recovery? And how much weight have you lost so far?
  21. MoonSiren giving yourself the jump start by doing the liquids is a step in the right direction you know the drill - Protein, Water, small portions, watch the carbs you (we) need to stay strong, stick to what we are supposed to on plan for the rest of our longer healthier, happier life that being said......i know you can get back on the right track - the fact that you are here now, shows that you want to get back on the road, working with the sleeve to help lose weight you are most definitely NOT A FAILURE - you slipped up, goofed up abit - but you are back - stand tall!!! for me, reading the boards doing MFP, helps keep me accountable - keeps me on the straight and narrow Get back to business - this takes some work - but we all knew that coming in to the sleeve good luck bud only look ahead
  22. Hi all, I had my sleeve surgery March 5th 2014 with zero complications and lost 130 lbs my first year. I got pregnant 1.5 years out and gained 20 lbs during the pregnancy, and that weight came off very quickly after delivery. But unfortunately during the pregnancy my hunger came back full force, and I stretched my sleeve no doubt. My baby is 13 months old now and I feel like even though I still can't eat as much as I was once able, I am able to eat more than I am supposed to, also I am slipping calorie-wise. I was doing so well the first couple years, I had fought the head hunger to where it wasn't a problem, and now it is back. Making unhealthy eating choices, etc. I have not gained back much, 10 lbs or less, but it is noticeable (clothes are snug and overall feeling sluggish and terrible.) Those who are years out, how do you keep focused? This is a lifetime commitment and I should NOT be struggling at only 3 years out!! I feel like I need to start from square one, with Protein shakes and all that. Please any advice is much appreciated.

    Last apt.

The 2nd is my last apt. I'm a bit worried because 1 of my 6 apt with GP didnt mention weight loss. But my 6 nutritionist apt. do. I hope they count it. I should have my surgery date early April. I hope to have my Rny asap so can have my life back. I want so desperately to be average size. Ride my motorcycle and not see that huge shadow on the road beside me anymore. I want to run and live a life my kids will have me in. Make memories that don't include me in a wheelchair at Disney. Desperate to get to living again.
  25. KATIE!! CONGRATS!!! Now - TAKE A DEEP BREATH... 1. It sounds like all of your ducks are in a row - the only ??? is your weight. 2. Instead of stressing about whether or not you've gained, start TODAY with some healthy eating. You KNOW you're NOT saying goodbye to anything forever, so you don't need to do the last supper thing this week and a half. 3. I know all of this is a huge surprise now that all is approved and happening so fast - BUT - you have waited TWO YEARS for this!! YOU ARE READY!!! Breathe, breathe, breathe... You are SO ready. You are going to do great. Your dream is coming true - embrace it! And Kathy is right on the money - have a friend whisk you off to a hotel for overnight. ((hugs))
