new to this web site but have plenty of ?...

Hi Crystal, And Welcome to LBT !!! 15 days to go... well girl, keep reading and do some searches on the questions you have. There's a world of information here along with some caring loving advice. What do you mean when you get sick of the same foods? are you talking when your on liquids or mushies? During those phases you need to stick with what the doctor tells you to eat, but after that when your on regular food, you eat what ever you like as long as you can tollerate it. So if you don't want a taco salad one day, have a cesars salad, or a turkey sandwich. You don't need to eat the same boring stuff, you'll pretty much be eating just like you are now once your doctor gives you the okay. Protein shakes, I drank Isopure while I was on Clear Liquids after surgery, after that I didn't have any Protein Shakes. What does your doc say about that? Tell us what kind of diet your supposed to be on after surgery. For instance, I was on 2 weeks clear liquids, followed by 1 week of thicker liquids, then 1 week of mushies and then regular food. Hugs and good luck !!
  2. In addition to Oregondaisy's suggestions, some doctors place the band in with a small fill. I've read that some people have up to 3 cc. If that's the case, you might need a little removed if your doctor thinks your trouble with soft foods has gone on too long. Are you able to tolerate solid protein at all?
  3. I think she meant you are a week out from your injury, not your surgery. I would go to the doctor if you are in a lot of pain, just to make sure everything is ok and it's just a pulled muscle.

Start my preop diet on the 3rd

I started my pre-op diet on 1/3. I get banded on 1/11. I think it is going to be a long week. I feel sorry for the taco bell girl. I love that place. I'm hungery just thinking about it. Good luck to all of us. WE CAN DO IT.

    Be A Hero

Hi I know the feeling. I had some of the some things happen to me. My husband was 200% there for me. It was my grown children. They still 3 years later will not acknowledge my 105 pound weight loss to me or ever say anything about it. I guess I should be happy that we are all talking and enjoying each other. They were so sure that I would die, fail, and starve because of the miss information that they got from the wrong places. I did prove them wrong all accounts, and so I guess it is hard for them to say gee Mom, I guess you did know what you were talking about. It took me 6 months to make up my mind and educate myself about weight loss surgery and what doctor I was going to go to. I know JUST how important support can be, I am here for you every step of the way. Where are you having your surgery? You are doing something that is going to add 20 years to your life and your are being your very own HERO! Never look back--only look forward. There isn't anything you can't do because you are strong and a survivor and you want to change your life. I am very proud of you for making this choice. It takes a LOT more courage to have this surgery than to continue to do what you have been doing right now and that is being fat and unhealthy. Yes, I call it fat, I was fat, and I know there are a lot of nice ways to say it, but fat is fat there is no getting around it. You want something better for yourself and that is great. This is my private E-maile: Suzannesh@aol.com. If you send me an E-mail, I will send you my phone number and you can call me ANY time of the day or night that you need something. The closer you get to your surgery date, you will experience ALL kinds of feelings and emotions. That is very normal. I experience happy, sad, couldn't wait to have it done, scared to have it done all at the same times sometimes. I what if'd myself so much that it made my head spin. On the airplace going to Mexico, I was second guessing if I was doing the right thing. So when you have these feeling or emotions you aren't any different than most of the rest of us. You are pretty normal. I am here for you. There isn't anything that we can't talk about. Hugs, Suzanne

    Answering the haters

I liked your blog. Thanks for that! I lost 60 lbs 7 years ago and kept it all off with sensible eating and exercise (walking 6-8km/day) until about 2 years ago when the following happened: divorce and mediation diagnosed with depression became a grandma to 2 beautiful twin girls! repairing relationships with my adult children after their dad said bad things about me (even though he was the cheater!!) - a LOT of work! met someone new (I was very careful, didn't even let him kiss me for 3 weeks! I'm 50, that's how scared I was) moved in with my wonderful man renovated our kitchen my job changed got engaged my son got married my daughter got married I got married So ..... I started eating and stopped walking ..... and I gained it all back and then some ..... So I know I "can" do it, its a lot of work. I too have hypothyroidism AND a ruined metabolism from yoyo dieting so I look at this as a tool. I know I can fail but it will go a long way to helping me stay on track! And anyway, IT'S NONE OF THEIR DAMN BUSINESS WHAT I DO!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Ok friends I have a question. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out of the RNY BYPASS and supposed to be on purée and I did it a couple times but I'm mostly eating soft foods and chewing very well. I've had no stomach problems and no bathroom problems. Was just wondering if anybody just skipped the purée stage and went straight to soft food. Does this do any damages down the line. Or if it's working for me to just stick with the soft foods. Thx for info. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  9. Hi All, I am one week post op and I have noticed my hair seems a little dull and brittle. I already have thin hair and I would like to prevent any major hair loss/damange... does anyone have any tips? Thanks, Kitty
  10. I had to do 6 consecutive months of doctor-supervised diet and exercise with my primary care doc, one nutritionist meeting, a psych eval, a meeting with a nurse practitioner from the surgeon's office, get a letter of recommendation from my PCP, write my own letter about why I felt like I needed the surgery, and meet with the surgeon before any of my info was submitted to insurance. Now that I've been approved by insurance and a date has been set, I'll have four hours of nutrition workshops and a support group meeting about a month before surgery. Two weeks before the surgery date I'll have bloodwork (including an arterial blood gas which I'm not looking forward to), chest x-ray, abdominal ultrasound, a physical and health history with an NP from the surgeon's office, and another meeting with the surgeon to go over the hospital stay and early recovery.
  11. Its been 9 weeks since VSG and I've only lost 37 pounds since surgery. I really thought I would have lost more by now. I was sick for a week and had IV meds and fluids pumped into me, I also had to get steroids cuz my lungs were shutting down....maybe this slowed my weight loss? HW 260 SW 250 CW 213
  12. I am a little over a week out and I am a gulper!! I still get to gulp. It took me awhile to relax about it too. You just have to try and then make changes if you need to! Good luck!
  13. Hi Everyone, I got my surgery date, January 8, 2009, for RNY. Now I am so nervous, with the holidays coming on, my 49th birthday next week, and then surgery next month. I can't hardly eat! I am losing weight quickly, which would normally be a good thing, but at this rate my BMI will be too low to qualify for surgery! Has anyone else been so nervous that they can't hardly eat??? I thought I would be having the "Last Supper Syndrome" by now and gobbling up food like crazy. Probably by the time I have to go on the restricted two weeks diet I will be hungry as a horse and going nutso every time I pass a fast food joint! LOL!!!! Lisa
  14. I actually experienced the opposite, I felt like my sense of smell deadened for about 3 weeks.
  15. What you are experiencing is normal. I once gained 7 lbs in between fills. You will be okay after you get some restriction in a few weeks. Typically 6 weeks after surgery you can get a fill. Good luck.
  16. i'm a pretty pragmatic person and didn't have any emotional aberrations after the procedure at all. (i was my normal self--as abnormal as i am :frown:.) are you normally "very emotional" with mood swings and such? or are you normally pretty "even-keeled"? you should expect the week or 2 following surgery to be like your normal self, except a little more so. i would tell you to think about all the different reasons you would do this in the first place. is this a commitment to a life-change for you or are you chasing the next "magic cure?" are you pretty good about following a regimen, but just need a little "can't cheat" helper? Because most anyone on these boards who's had their band for any length of time can tell you that it's hard to cheat the band, but it certainly is possible. if you're not ready to make the life-change, then you might expect to be disappointed or depressed with your results. if you're ready to make the commitment and you've chosen to get the band because you are ready to be paroled from the prision of your overweight, then you should expect and strive for a gentle and well-deserved sense of accomplishment after you get your band. rest, let yourself heal, follow the doctor's instructions faithfully and LOSE the baggage! i pray for your motivation and your commitment--
  17. I'll b 4 months post op on 8/23. Honestly I haven't had any problems with eating anything I've tried thus far. Ofcourse there are lots of things I haven't tried and I try to make good choices most of the time. I have been able to tolerate everything I've tried thus far but can only eat much smaller portions than pre op. I do have an occasional junk food splurge n have had no problems. Still losing. I've also had the occasional stall here n there but the losing always kicks back n eventually.

    Surgery Tomorrow!

I'm new to navigating in this site, but I found what looked like a 'friend' request and sent it to you, Nicole. My name is actually Klisa...Lisa with a K in the front of it (lisawithak). Ohhh, I'm so jealous that you had sushi! I've been dying for something to CHEW on! I was on the phone laughing with my Mom about how I was going to wrap a steak in a pair of nylons so that I could chew on it to get the flavor but still maintain the 'liquid only' diet because I wouldn't be able to swallow any of it. Hahaha! I have to be at the facility at 10:30 am tomorrow (PT), so my surgery will probably be 12:30-1:00...hopefully things aren't delayed much... surgeries always seem to get backed up. Rheaosun - 35 lbs in 9 weeks?! That's so wonderful!!! I was only planning on taking a couple days off of work...surgery tomorrow, return to work on Tuesday, HOWEVER, I work from home (programmer), so I don't have to move much at all to work. We'll see how it goes.
  20. I'm in the same boat. I lost about 9 pounds in the first week, and haven't lost since. I was talking to my surgeon today and he said that this weight loss isn't going to be a steady decline, it's going to be more like stairs. We're going to lose, stall, lose, stall... which is frustrating but he said as long as it's coming off, we have to be proud of that! I'm right there with ya.
  21. Hi Hip- I was in the same boat as you. I actually ddn't lose a single pound week 2 or 3. But, I stayed the course and have dropped crazy weight in the weeks that followed (45 pounds in 6 weeks- 30 of the those pounds came in weeks 4,5 and 6). I guess the moral of the post is to stay focused on the end goal, eat and exercise right and things will eventually shake out the way they are supposed to. Granted, saying all that still doesn't make the frustration any easier to manage when that damn scale won't move! Good luck! Amanda
  22. I think I'm just not going to step on a scale for the first month out LOL Then I won't be obsessing about the 1wk 2 wk 3 wk stalls I may experience I'll just b e like WOO HOO I lost 5lbs (or whatever)
  23. I'm on my second month long stall. I WISH for a 2 week!
  24. Lisa, Thank you! I found inspiration from many I read about, watched on videos, etc. So, I hope you're correct-I'd love to offer that to others. Amazing...eh, lol. That might be a stretch, lol. But I walk 4 miles, three times a week; swim the other three days...taking one rest day. Now that is truly amazing! All the best to you! -Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    New And So Excited!

Welcome! Definitely take time to read a lot here and go to a local support group if your doctor or hospital has one. I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago tomorrow & am very happy with my decision. Feel free to check out my blog (listed in my signature) if you want also. I think I've been kind of lucky to not have had much pain & haven't had any "head hunger" yet. Although there is a long road ahead, I would suggest trying to eat healthier now (if you haven't already), and also cut out any soda and/or caffeine you current consume (if any). I'd suggest starting a multivitamin if you don't regularly take one. The healthier you are before surgery, the easier your recovery will be. Feel free to ask any questions you can think of. I'm happy to help if I can & there are many who have more experience that are more than willing to help too! Best of luck on your journey!
