    Sept bandsters Group??

Hi! I was banded 9/14/10. I have lost 84 pounds but need to lose 70 pounds more. I have had only one fill but I am due for another one on Tuesday. My weight loss has slowed down to 3 pounds a month for the last 2 months. I feel like I eat more now thus the need for a fill. I am only at 3 cc. at the moment. Can you tell me how you are progressing? I see that we got our bands just a few days apart.
  2. I had a few food funerals. In the big scheme of things, I have no regrets. I was 100% faithful to my pre op diet, which was only 10 days. I have been following all the dietary suggestions post op to the best of my ability, I track all my foods and meet with me nutritionist. I have committed to the changes necessary to be successful. I was very mindful of those "funeral" meals, whereas most other meals in the months leading to my surgery I have no memory of. I had pizza one day, Indian food another and a excellent 7 course dinner with friends. I am glad I got all the closure. I mean, I won't be able to eat sweets or foods like that again, maybe ever for many of them, and I am fine with that. I just wish I had creme brûlée one last time. 3. I am 10 days post-op (VSG) and I have lost 13lbs to date.

    nervous and ready?\!

i am 23 days from my last nutrition visit and my 10 day post op diet! im so excited and nervous...but more excited...anyway..thanks for the encouragement. i love hearing how everyone is happy they made this decision.
  5. A point I was trying to make, but after re-reading my post, I don't think I did a very good job of, was comparing pre and post weight loss. Let's take a look at this scenario of identical twins with exact starting numbers. One twin is on a two week pre-op diet and they lose 10 pounds. Two weeks post op, they have lost an additional 5 pounds. The other twin doesn't have a pre-op diet and they have lost 15 pounds in the two weeks following surgery. Would you say the twin who had the pre-op diet has had their post surgery weight loss slowed due to their pre-op diet? I would say the answer is no. That 10 pounds is going to come off regardless due to the glycogen factor. It is not 10 pounds of fat, which is what most people are looking to lose anyway. I think if you are bound and determined to compare, you will find most people who are rigorously compliant with the guidelines begin to lose at similar rate. The bottom line is, for the most part, if you burn more calories than you consume, you are going to lose. The longer you maintain this imbalance, the longer you will continue to lose, over the long run. Yes, there are going to be stalls. It is quite natural and a necessary part of the journey. Expect them.

    Whoo Hoo!!!!!!

In my weekly phone call to the insurance company I got a verbal confirmation of approval for surgery. She said my letter will arrive in the mail in 7 - 10 days as well as the one to the surgeon's office. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: I'm now one step closer to Band Land!!!!!!! :) :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: :Banane05: Doing the Happy Dance here. 7. I've noticed a lot of variance in what people have to do to get WLS. I've been in my program since September 2014, and my surgery is May 20. Some people have hardly any program time, and are scheduled for surgery in a couple months. I don't understand why it's so different. I wonder if there is any difference in end results. Or in ability to keep the weight off long term. I guess it made me a bit angry at first at how long I had to wait, and how much I had to do. But now I am grateful for the length of the program and process I have gone through. It gave me time to really consider what I was doing. But then again, my last dietary appointment my nutritionist told me she had a man in her office, a week after surgery, trying to eat shrimp. So maybe it makes no difference. I've had more time to really work on issues I have with food, with a therapist. (my own idea). It has also given me time to give up things I needed to, like smoking, caffeine, soda etc. It's been a long journey already, but I think it prepared me well. I have a 10 day liquid diet that I start on Monday. I believe that's going to help to ready me even more. The real reason for the long liquid diet is to shrink the liver, so the surgeon has more room to work. Perhaps not everyone needs that.

    Shop much?

I got my husband addicted to the thrift store. We also don't make a lot of extra money and we both had surgery and had to replace our entire wardrobe. I went from a size 22/24W top to a size large or 14 and size 18/20W pants to size 8 or 10 depending on the style. He went from XXL to some L but now Med shirts and size 42 pants to size 32. I am buying him Nautica, Ralph Lauren Polo, and other designers clothes. I just picked up a pair of size 8 designer jeans for myself hat I saw at the department store for $70 for only $1.49. We are now down to only once a week stopping. I have made a list of wait I need to buy and try to keep it to what I need. Good Luck. Take inventory then try to keep to what you need. Other de cluttering says for every thing you bring in. If you buy something, remove one item and donate it to keep the closet from getting over crowded.

    So many questions

My insurance (Tufts) required 6 months of diet, 6 nutrition, 6 nurse practitioner visits. 10% of your body weight lost. Once sent in was approved in 5 days surgery date was 3 weeks later!! Good luck!! Sent from my SGH-T999L using the BariatricPal App
  10. Hi All- I was banded on 07/26/13. About one week post op, I sucked on some goldfish (about 10) and swallowed them when they were mushy. I also ate some chips the same way about two weeks after surgery. Have I really messed up the healing of my scar tissue to where my band might slip? I am feeling really bad about it. I definitely did not gorge myself or get too crazy, but did eat some of these foods. I was careful too only swallow when they were mushy, but I read on another topic that the churning of your stomach when you eat the solids too close to surgery messes up the healing and can make it much easier for the band to slip. I also felt like I drank to much one day and went to bed feeling extra full. Please let me know what your experience has been and if anyone else did some of these things too. I've lost 20 pounds and have mostly followed the diet otherwise and I get in my recommended 75-95g of protein/day. My anxiety is in overdrive thinking I messed it all up, especially because I am self pay and cannot afford to NOT have this work. Thanks..

    Scale Suggestion

I weigh myself every day, too, and if it's up even a few tenths of a pound, I can usually figure out why and correct my behavior. We have two digital scales - one his, one mine, both Homedics, bought in Walmart, both very accurate. I know someone who's on Weight Watchers who weighs herself about 10 times a day - morning, night, before she pees, after she pees - now, that's obsessive-compulsive! She had to put her scale in the trunk of her car to keep from weighing herself constantly. I figure that as long as I only want to do it once a day I'm fine!
  12. I'm going to get banded on August 7, and we have a Lake Michigan vacation scheduled (and prepaid) for September 10-16. Will there be any problem with going in the (clean but not chlorinated) Lake Water? Also, I'll be in week 5 after the banding then. What can I realistically plan to be eating? My written instructions say to eat only pureed foods from weeks 3 to 6, and I plan to comply -- but I see that a fair number of folks go faster than that. Last: After the surgery, how fast do people get back to work? I left the hospital 48 hours after each c-section and started back to work part time in the second week... I was younger then...but this surgery I won't have a baby to deal with...
  13. Yes, I'm not hard core exercising...but I walk at least 5 times a week for 45-90 minutes. I usually just walk during my lunch hour and if we go to the park on the weekends that is when I get my long walks in. I am up at 4:15 a.m. M-F and don't get home from work until 6:30 p.m. after I pick up my son....so there isn't much time left in the evenings for a workout at the gym. Once I get some weight off and feel more comfortable going to the gym and being "Seen"....I'll get back to my gym membership and do more but I don't like going to the gym with all the Bally's Beautiful people. I know that is stupid and I admit it but it is my insecurities that I have to deal with . I'm going for my next appointment on 8/10 so I'm hoping a little more fill will give me something to work with. Honestly, if I wanted to sit down and eat a quarter pounder hamburger, ff and a drink, I could do it with no problem...that is what is frustrating. I don't do it but I COULD DO it...I shouldn't be "ABLE" to eat like that anymore.... Again, I'm just venting. I know I'll get there, I'll fall off the wagon once in a while and get back on the wagon. When I sabatoge, I do it to myself and I know it...those two oreos last month did not stop me and cause me to only lose 2 pounds....Yes, it is 2 pounds but it is ONLY two pounds. I'm not looking for 5 or 6 pounds a week. I'm hoping for 1 pound a week and would be thrilled with 2....I'm not unrealistic. Just frustrated. I'll get over it.
  14. Got my surgery prescriptions (Scopolamine patch, Lortab elixer, Pepcid, Celebrex, Zofran and 1 more I can't remember). I don't have insurance for meds. So I called my local Walgreens and found out just my 16 oz of Lortab elixer is $230! Wow. I"m a disabled vet who gets most of my care thru the VA (my surgery is being done by a civilian dr, thru Medicare) and all of my rx's come from the local VA pharmacy for free. I called the pharmacy and they said if my VA primary care provider rewrites those rx's, I can get them thru the VA pharmacy. So I took them into his office today and gave it to the front office lady, with a note of direction for my dr (who doesn't yet know about my surgery) that I needed to pick up the rx's by Fri afternoon, as I'm sposed to be 3 hrs away at the hospital next Monday at 10 am. If anyone here has ever dealt with the VA healthcare system they know how stupid it was for me to drop off my script to the office lady. The dr may never see it. Or he may not approve to give me these meds. And will they call me? Probly not. It'll just get lost in paperwork. What do I do then? Anyone have success in getting civilian scripts filled by the VA pharmacy?
  15. i did on the 1 st of Feb. All my incisions did not heal, one is really infected. I am on antibiotics 4 a day for 10 days! Other than that and the vomiting i had the first day and a half after surgery its been ok! Just expect small little clinic in a shopping center alot of transporting back and forth from hotel to clinic with those bumpy roads and discomfort with a drain for two days after surgery and 3 hours waiting to get back to USA on the boder check
  16. Well, I'm glad you went to the ER, though it doesn't seem like they were very helpful. How does he not at least know the difference between types of wls??! I would definitely question why they put EKG on your discharge papers, maybe cutting corners? I'd definitely make sure they don't bill you for that. Actually, if it were me, I'd call the ER right now and tell them it says EKG on your discharge sheet and you want to make sure you weren't supposed to get one. That rash definitely looks like hives to me...I get them frequently for all sorts of crazy reasons (sun, wind, plants, stress, the list goes on). Benadryl will help, but I'm not sure you can take it with sleeve...? Sounds like the most important thing is to start trying to cough that stuff up. Big, deep coughs. If it doesn't feel like anything is moving when you cough, maybe sit in a steamy bathroom for 5 - 10 minutes, then try again. I'm glad you're seeing your regular doctor on Tuesday. Sounds like you need to talk to an expert. Thanks for updating us, and I hope you feel better soooooooon!
  17. Hi everyone I was a low bmi too. I started at 210, 203 on the day of surgery. I am 6 weeks post op (01/17/14) and I have lost 31 pounds (10 before the surgery on pre op diet). I have a question has anyone else stalled in their progress. I stayed in the low 180's for a week and a half and now stuck at 179. I am extremely conscious of my calorie intake and am "exercising" (walking per dr's orders) at least 3 times a week. I am consuming 800-1000 calories (as suggested in the surgery manual) and getting my protein targets. Has anyone experience something similar or is there something I am doing wrong? Thanks for all of your help.

    Bandster with Celiac Disease

I also have celiac disease and will be getting my band on Feb 7, 2007. I am borderline celiac, it happens only when I am under stress. I am having a crisis right now.... I wonder why ( 10 days before surgery)
  19. I was banded Nov 27th. All was going well until last week friday when I woke up and noticed that the last scab from my port incision had came off and the site was full of puss. I immediately call my local physician and went in. I was put on antibiotics for 10 days. Well, tonight is my last dose and am just not sure....it looks better and is no longer oozing, however it is still red and the site is "scabbed over" and the scab is yellow. Am I being a worry-wort? or should I go back in? If it was any other site, I would not be as worried, but this is my port. I am scared to even make an apt for a fill until this is all taken care of. Any advise is appreciated. Thank You yyev

    Non-NSAIDs Pain Relievers

I was taking a prescription NSAID (Feldene) consistently before my sleeve surgery, for osteoarthritis pain in several joints and in my lower back. I stopped it before surgery, per surgeon's orders, and took Tylenol or, rarely, prescription narcotics when I had to have something. Immediately after the surgery I was delighted to find that my aches and pains were GONE. I don't know why (maybe endorphins?), but that low-to-moderate level nagging pain in my joints and lower back was no there. That lasted several months. When the aches gradually returned, they were at first less bothersome than pre-op, which I attributed to weight loss. Now, at 7 mos out, they're back to pre-surgery intensity but they're more episodic instead of constant. My surgeon said I can take my Feldene now, but only intermittently. When the aches get to me I take it for a couple of weeks, then stop for at least a few weeks. He said to wait until I'm at least a full year post op before I take it consistently again. The benefits of this particular NSAID are that I only have to take it once a day, and there are at least two strengths: 10 mg and 20 mg. Celebrex would be another good choice. Please note that anytime that anyone (WLS or no) takes an NSAID they should always always always take it with food.

    Very hungry all the time!!

The head is a very powerful thing. After surgery you were swollen and feeling new things with your band, went for your first fill thinking you would totally feel it snd wham nothing... Worse you feel less than before the fill. I feel your pain. You will be hungry for now. It will take several fills to get to the green zone. Took about 8 fills over 8 months for me and by that time I was within 10 pounds from goal. Hang in there, eat as if you have restriction. I know it's hard, but you can do it.
  22. KeeWee

    Thoroughly unscientific poll

I would say you should count your personal goal. Your doc is tracking his goal for you so you should track you goal for you!! I personally am a "size goal" kinda girl, I'd like to get back to a size 10-12. I love how I look in a 16 and a even 14 so i'm hoping not to lose too much since i like a bit of weight to throw around. Either way...good luck
  23. Oh my, I have been heartbroken over not taking my Advil. I stop one month ago. It has not been fun, I bought the pain patch wraps from my ankle that has severe osteo arthritis from and accident 10 yrs ago. I also ice it and putting off the inevitable of seeing ortho doc and getting a cortisone shot for the pain. I can barely walk without my advil I thought at some point u can take Advil (any NSAIDs) after ur healed and u can tolerate it. I thought someone said only Bypass pts can't take Advil after but we can...anyone know for sure??
  24. I regretted surgery for about 4 months, I had a stricture that's cause me vomiting, pain, etc etc. I'm not 7 months and super happy! Just hung in there, give little more time. I know it's hard but that's all you can do now. Call your doctor if you worry something it's wrong. It's not an easy journey but it's worth it! I am just now 1 month and 5 days out. I've dealt with constipation (not really, still have it) and at close to one month started getting food stuck, salivating like mad and vomiting. After about a week of this nonsense, I got re- admittied (three hours from home) for IV fluids and astimosis dilation. I had a severe 3mm stricture that was dilated to 10mm on 10-15. He said there is a possibility that it will have to be repeated and I believe him. Not something to mess around with. I was sent home on Friday and today, Monday I felt that same tight, stuck pain right after trying to eat. Thinking it might be time for stretch out #2. I'd say discomfort and vomiting on the same food you were able to tolerate a week or two prior is cause for concern. Also.. when or if liquid causes pain and also shoot back out- GO TO THE DOCTOR. Now I know.. Hope this helps someone else.

    Any illinois sleevers

I had surgery 10/24…and I'm doing great. I might have some Protein samples to get to you, the closer you get to your surgery. We can message about that if you would like. Is the consultation in January your first step?
