    NSV Speculations ....

I think my first NSV was about getting into a certain size, but I honestly can't remember. Some examples though, seeing your bones (feet bones, wrist bones, ribs, collar bones), being able to breath while you paint your toenails or tie your shoes, things like that. I actually have some definition to my cheekbones now, which is nice. A couple of weeks ago I noticed a whole bunch of veins in my arms... I'm not sure that's an NSV or "holy crap you need a tan!". hehe.

    NSV- A Waist

Congrats on such a wonderful NSV.
  4. So I finally got a chance to sit down and watch my DVRed episode of The Biggest Loser finale. I have to say, for a show that promotes losing weight and getting in shape, they make you sit in front of the TV for an awfully long time to find out who won. That aside, those contestants are damn motivational. Seriously, Mike lost over 200 lbs in 6 months, and that 64 year old guy who won the at home prize lost nearly as much and he was only on the Ranch for 2 weeks. If these guys can do it without surgery, surely I can be as successful with the help of my new, super, duper band. Personally, I wanted Tara to win. I think because I related the most to her. Sure, she’s a little younger than me, but only by 4 years. We’re still both in our twenties—the prime of our lives. She’s my height and was close to my weight when she started out—her just under 300lbs and me just over. She never fell below the dreaded yellow line and she won challenge after challenge. She was truly a force to be reckoned with. I hope that I can be half as successful as she has been. And speaking of the challenges, I come to the real point of this blog. By week 11, the remaining contestants were all confronted with a true test of how far they’d come in less than 3 months—they ran a half-marathon. Then, 2 months later they were faced with a doubly difficult challenge—a full marathon. Every remaining player completed a full 26.2 miles, even Ron—the 54 year old father with a multitude of health problems. If they can accomplish such a feat, in such a short time, I certainly can as well. And so I will. I have set a goal for myself. We all look for those NSVs that keep us motivated, and so I am setting myself a NSG—non scale goal. I am going to run a half marathon. A little bit of research on my part has informed me that there is one in Queens on September 20th and another in the Hamptons on September 26th. I will be at one of those two races and I will make it to the finish line.

    NSV

When I started my job 10 years ago I was wearing a mens 2X. We wear the same uniforms as the cops so I had 5, 2 x shirts, 5, size 48 pants and one 2x sweater and I wore that same size until a couple of months ago. As of yesterday I know own 3 size large shirts, 3 size 42 pants and one size large sweater, and........................................................... I would say by the end of next week I will be going in for the next size down in the pants ( This weight loss is causing my employer a bit a money at 45 dollar a pair paints and 30 dollar shirts plus the Patches, But hey I offered to wear street clothes and they said no. Great to be me lately, sucks to be them
  7. I am understanding this completely. I have a range of clothes in my closets / storage of all sizes. - Today was a NSV, I fit into a pair of capri jeans that I bought about 3 years ago and I pulled it out every summer since as a goal to fit into them. Today I did. Guess what, they are white, so today is the 1st time in 3 years that I can wear them and likely the last time I'll wear them for good. Really sad part is, I think I only ever wore them once before. It's hard, but you can do it one or both ways - You can donate it or sell in lots on Ebay and make some money and use that money to buy new clothes. Be proud of your sexy new self and don't look back.
  8. I am a month post op from 322 to 280 and I had my first few nsv!!!!! I fit into pre pregnancy clothes and drum roll...............someone I hadnt seen in forever had to ask me if I was who they thought I was thats awesome I am unrecognizeable. It feels so good to be losing!!!!!
  9. Congratulations! One of the best NSVs for me, so far, was fitting into a pair of jeans I'd stubbornly hung on to for 10 years. (And they're not even out of style!) Lord knows why I clung to them---but I sure do like wearing them.
  10. For the past few months, I've needed some new athletic shoes. I have only one pair, and they are probably 4 years old. The past few times I've had to wear them for an extended period, my feet were very sore. So I decided today to go grab a new pair. Now, I've been a size 9 wide since jr. High, but for some reason (impulse/instinct) I decided to size myself today. Not only am I NOT a wide anymore, I went down a full size to an 8! I couldn't believe it when I tried them on. I'm only a little over 2 weeks out (had surgery 1/3/2011) and it's hard to believe that I changed that drastically. I tried on my old ones when I got back home, and realized that they must have been rubbing and sliding, which was probably causing the pain. When I started saving for new clothes, I never thought about the fact that I might need a whole new shoe wardrobe too!
  11. I have been on here since around February and was sleeved in may. I have probably had many nsv's but my greatest was today. I was getting dressed and couldn't find my jeans in the dryer..I was getting frustrated when I realized I had placed them in my teenagers pile of clothes
  12. I haven't had my VSG YET but I am already experiencing some NSV. Not having to stretch the bottom of my tshirt out for it to fit me feels odd...but it feels good!!

    Hiatal hernia repair

Thanks so far for the advice everyone. Believe me I am definetely taking tiny tiny sips. I am most definetely going to put the scale away until my doc appt. next Thursday, maybe this will help me keep my mind off that area for a bit. I'm not too sure what NSV stands for since I'm kinda new to this. I did really well with eating right from the day I began this journey 6/19 and lost 33 lbs. before my surgery. I am fully committed to this new lifestyle and can't wait to see what kinds of new things my future holds. Just praying the pain lessens as the days go by.

    Happily moving along...slowly but surely

It's been a few weeks since I posted, so it's time to get back on the stick, so to speak... I'm enjoying my banded life...I still feel as if I have an optimal level of fill, since when I do eat, I can't eat very much before feeling full. If I eat too fast (old habit - hard to break) or take too big of a bite, I get a little stuck and have to wait for things to clear. I've been avoiding 'sliders' like ice cream and chocolate, but have an occasional slip. Where not so long ago, that would have meant a 'I'm feeling sorry for myself' binge, now it's just a slip, and I get back on track. Weight loss is slow, but still moving. I'm guilty of wanting it yesterday sometimes ...for instance, this past weekend I tried on a new swimsuit that I bought in anticipation of a family trip to Florida in July. I bought the suit at the size I wanted to be, not necessarily the size I was at the time. Not too far off, but still... It's a really cute suit - kind of old-fashioned in a way, because it has a 'skirted' look to it like ones I've seen in old catalogs. Fits really close to the body, not a flared skirt, more like a mini-mini-mini pencil...scuba gear is what it reminds me of, without the length in the legs. It's white, and fully lined, with a halter neckline. I tried it on the day it arrived, and while I wasn't ecstatic about how it looked, I wasn't horrified either - first time THAT's happened in a very long time! LOL I knew I had some work to do, but had a month to do it in...now it's about 2 1/2 weeks before the vacation, and I'm not quite where I wanted to be, so I'm second-guessing myself and my decision to buy the suit. Normally (my pre-banded life) this would cause me to give up and just eat the first sweet / salty / crunchy / fattening thing that crossed my mouth. Instead, last night I got on the rowing machine and did 25 minutes...I haven't rowed in a while, so it was tough, but I figure MORE exercise is the best way to get the scale moving again. I've lost nearly 50 pounds as of this writing, and I think my "easy losing" time is over. Now, I think I'm getting to the more "entrenched" fat, and it's going to take real WORK to get it off. My tummy is so soft now...where it used to be firmer with all the fat cells packed in there! It's not a pretty sight, but I look at it as a marker of my progress. My DH said he could tell from my legs that the muscle is fighting for dominance over the fat I'm trying to lose...LOL...makes me think of a scene from a kids' cartoon where germs moves through the body and are attacked by antibodies - except I'm attacking the fat cells with exercise and eating right! I'm going to focus on burning as much fat and building as much muscle as I can from this point forward - I know that will get me where I want to be, and the only way to get there is through hard work. I have a goal to be down another 10 - 15 pounds before my trip, and I'm going to make it! Increasing the intensity of my exercise will help, plus watching even more closely my portion size and protein content. My walking is going well - I love to walk, and with summer approaching, I do more outside walking than ever. We're on summer hours at work, which means I have a shorter lunch hour, and therefore less walking time. I think that's why my weight loss has stalled somewhat. I didn't realize what a difference that 10 - 15 minutes would make (a 25 - 35 min walk versus 15 - 20), but it obviously makes a difference. I thought I was walking 'harder' to compensate, but I guess there's no substitute for time and distance... For all those working with their band, congratulations - keep up the good work! If you and your band seem to be at cross purposes, I encourage you to go back to the beginning - re-discover what made you certain that the band was for you, talk to your doctor or your nutritionist, and get back on track - you CAN do this, and the band can be one of your tools! :mad2: If you're not yet banded, I encourage you to do the research, get the answers you need, and make an educated decision. I did, and it was the best decision I've ever made for ME! NSV (Non-scale victory) - I was kidding around with my DH this past weekend, and he grabbed me in his arms, fell backward onto the bed, and proceeded to tickle me. I laughed and laughed - he loves to tickle me and most often, I love to be tickled. After a short while, he stopped and got this contemplative look on his face. After I stopped giggling, I asked him what was up - he said simply "You didn't cough". I had forgotten that when I was heavier, I could not be tickled for long periods of time without losing my breath and starting to cough. Sometimes the coughing would bring tears to my eyes, and my DH would apologize for tickling me. It was an uncomfortable feeling - knowing he wasn't trying to hurt me, yet knowing something was wrong - why would I be coughing from being tickled? His statement brought it home to me - whatever my weight was doing to my breathing capacity, whatever it was doing to my body to cause the coughing, it's now gone! I can be tickled like the rest of the normal-weight women out there and not worry about losing my breath or having a coughing fit. :w00t: Perhaps a little thing, but one more piece of evidence that I'm claiming my ability to live a normal life with the help of my lapband.

I don't get it. I worked SO hard today and still didn't meet my calorie burn goal for the day. I walked to campus twice, did yoga, did 45 minutes of exercise, walked for 10 minutes that evening, in addition to just sort of moving all day. Well, whatever, I still met my daily defecit goal, so now I can have junk at my dad's party. SCALE: 231.5 upstairs at the gym (228 at doctor's office) EXERCISE: Length: 45 minutes (25 minutes Arc trainer, 20 minutes treadmill) Intensity: Weight loss mode on Arc Trainer, steady state (3.3 mph at a 5% incline) on treadmill Activity: Arc Trainer & Treadmill (also walkeded to campus twice, did yoga for a half hour and walked 10 minutes that evening.) Calories burned start to finish: ~332 FOOD: BF: Apex chocolate meal replacement shake ... mmmmmmmm L: Loaded salad w/ Teriyaki Chicken D: Lean Cuisine Chicken & Veggies S: 1 rice krispie treat & some of Sara's Costa Vida Pork Salad CALORIES CONSUMED: 1,108 CALORIES BURNED: 2,679 CALORIE DEFECIT: 1,571 NSV: I could do yoga SO MUCH better than Sara. She's 10 pounds less than I was when I started. She used to be in better shape than me. I really hope she chooses to get a band in the near future.

  19. @@Jboyd2014 swetty thighs not to rub against each other its amazing the "little" things that occur as you lose weight relish (or pickle ) each and other NSV Lots of new wonderful events to to happen in sleeveland good luck with surgery speedy recovery kathy
  20. I was sleeved 3/20/2014. I'm down 46 lbs. weight loss has been a little slower than I wanted. But I feel great. I'm walking miles with no back pain. I've started running. I walked/ran a 5k last month and I'm doing another 5k on the 4th. I am working hard and the scale moving slow can be a little discouraging. So I am relying heavily on my non scale victories. Last night I put my wedding band and engagement rings on. They were a little snug, but I have not been able to wear them for almost five years. The proud look on my husbands face said it all for me. I'm so proud of myself. Surgery was not an easy decision for me. I fought it for ten years. But this has been the 2nd best decision I've made for my life. The 1st was marrying my husband. I love hearing others NSV stories. So please share.
  21. Today, my family went to a theme park, and I decided to give it a try and see if I could fit into one of the rides since I have lost 75+ lbs. While I was in line, there were multiple people that tried to ride only to be forced off the ride when the safety harness wouldn't come down far enough on them. I was extremely nervous that the same thing would happen to me. But, when it was my turn to board the ride, I fit!!!!! Such a great NSV for me!!!!
  22. You have a thumbs up from me. I only weighed a few times for the first 3-4 months. Never suffered through a stall because I never knew if I had one (except when I was sick 2-3 months out and ended up going to the doctor a lot. I didn't lose a thing for a month but didn't care because I was so sick). I did start weighing weekly after awhile, just so I had something to post on my ticker If you've spent any time on these boards you've probably read a lot of posts whining about stalls and slow weight loss. Drives me nuts. You will be so much happier just judging your success by NSV's and how great you feel. Oh yeah, I did take pictures, too. My sister went to TJ with me for surgery and she wanted updates (we live in different states). So glad she made me do that because a picture is worth more than any number on the scale.
  23. Those are awesome nsv's! Congratulations!
  24. Unfortunately I am a slave to the scale and I always relate my weight loss to scale victories. Today is a different story though. As I was giving my daughter a bath I was leaning over and realized that I was resting my chin on my chest. There was no roll of fat or extra skin between my chin and my chest. It sits right on there! OMG! I'm freaking out about it! It's awesome! LOL!
