Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

I just finished priming the railings on one side of the deck. It's 80 out and beautiful. My painting today was in the shade next to the hum of the a/c so it wasn't bad at all. AND it was the first time in my life that I have ever worn a tank top!! Another NSV!! woooo hooooo! I'm eating my Walmart Tuna Salad and will have some watermelon and black sweet cherries for dessert. Then it's off to the pool in the backyard for some aerobics. Ethan comes today at 2 and we have him until 11:30 tonight.. so you know I'll be busy!! We're going out to dinner and then to a Beatle's type concert at the band shell. It'll be a fun day today for sure.

    NSV = non-scale victory!

Chim and Jackie - those are great NSV!!! All my clothes are big and stretchy to begin with, so I have not had any of those yet....but look forward to being able to fit the sizes you are talking about!!! AND YES, it's the LAST FAT SUMMER of our lives!!!!

Congratulations, Jackie! Just makes your day, doesn't it?!?!?!?! I have on a pair of jeans today and they are soooo baggy. Everyone has noticed and commented. It's a great feeling. Guess these are about to be retired! YAY!!! Anyone else have any NSVs (non-scale victories) to share???

    still getting hungry too quickly!

I was also banded on 3/30....and things have been pretty static for the last 6wks. I'm doing my exercise, but it's still annoying not to see the results on the scale in weightloss. I've too have had 2 fills and the only comfort I've found is the NSV in all of this. I am having fill #3 next week, and my Dr. takes measurements also. This is the NSV portion...seeing my measurements going down although the weight might not move as quickly. I've dropped 2 shirt sizes since surgery and I'm down to the size I was back in 2001. I keep telling myself I didn't get this way in a short amount of time, so it's going to take time to get the weight off (btw, it's healthier ). I teach and in my opinion I have not seen changes over the summer but going back to work in my room this week, my fellow staff members have noticed changes that have happened since June. Chin up....I truly believe it's the fill factor. I know that this 2nd fill of mine is finally (after about 2 wks since it was done) beginning to be felt. I expect this next fill to be more of a tweak than #2. Patience....and it will happen. Best of luck! Annette

    August NJ Thread......

Morning all. I went to the doctor yesterday and he gave me the all clear to take a bath (limited to 10 mins) and I can start doing LIGHT house work. I am allowed to mop a single room a day. I can do laundry as long as I don't carry it to and from the laundry room. I see him again in 5 weeks, one day before we leave for Disney. I am starting to get stuff together for the trip. I ordered sunscreen from avon today, and I picked up some koolaid packets for our water bottles. I'm also going to the dollar store for a pitcher (we make instant tea in the room) and some cups. I buy several pairs of dollar store sunglasses, as I tend to break and lose them in the parks. I am bad about taking them off when we sit down to eat, and then walking off and leaving them on the table. Oh and I am having a huge NSV, I need new undies. Mine are all falling off...WooHoo! ~Mandy

IndioGirl, GOOD FOR YOU!!!! You held strong!!!! That is a huge NSV (non-scale victory). Just think before the band, I'm sure you would've joined in w/the rest of the group. Congrats! Laurend, I am so jealous! I want my fill, too. Although you're not as restricted as you would like, I'm sure it helping w/some of the hunger, right? SSanka & Frustrated, I've been walking, too. It is my favorite form of exercise. Keep up the good work! Lindaa, yep. Welcome to Bandster Hell. No fun. Hungry, no restriction, can eat whatever you want, but no you shouldn't...I know. I can't wait until I get some restriction!!! And about giving in, don't beat yourself up. We're still learning and trying to break old habits. It's all good. Just brush yourself off and keep on trucking!

Hi- For years I had been an avid hiker, but for the last 10 years I have been too fat to hike. I figured I would try it again. I went out this morning for what was supposed to be an hours walk-well, guess who got really lost? I took about three hours to get off the mountain. But I did it!!!!!! :whoo:It was hard. My calorie monitor watch says I burned about 1700 calories. Now that's a workout. Now I want to go back ASAP to find out where I messed up!

    January Bandsters???

Glad to have you joining our group Tooslow! Has anyone's doctor said no lettuce? Met a lady tonight who has also had lapband (I think she'd lost like 150 pounds in 16 months or something like that!) anyway, her doc said no pop, which I'd heard. But she also said no salads because the lettuce could turn just right and block the opening! I don't think I've read anything like that on here. O.K....new NSV's....besides being able to fit in every ride at Worlds of Fun last week, and being called skinny (again!!) and having people do double takes and say things like, "almost didn't recognize you!!"....another huge NSV was the fact that I was at Target last week, bought a size 24 pair of short, after wearing it for about 30 minutes I had to get a belt.....I can pull them off without unbuttoning them! So today I went back to Target and bought a size 20....they fit! O.K. a little snug but after I wear them around the house I'm sure they'll be perfect!!! I love my band!!
  11. Quit laughing first of all. I know I'm too old to be going back to college and wouldn't have done it a year ago and 80 pounds heavier so I guess it's kind of a NSV. I have always always always wanted to work in a hospital and I quit college after one year ago a few years back so I enrolled today and classes start 8/10/07 and I'm so excited. I pray I have the strength and energy to finish this time. Pray for me. Just thought I would share. My daugher in-law went with me and enrolled as well so we can go together and she not knowing it would hurt my feelings said on the way down there today, "I admire someone at YOUR age going back to college". I could have strangled her but I guess if you think about it she's right.

    Texarkana Bandsters

Shannon, These kittens fell out from under someone's car or truck as they passed by the house. The one that adopted us looked like she got thrown from the window. Her little face was all messed up and had a broken leg, but you can't tell it now. First we called her Smooshie, cause her face was all smooshed up. Now, Tanner is calling her Camo-Kat. You can't see her when she is in the grass. (gray calico) I would have to decline from accepting Helen, but she might just be the next snack for the dogs. But you know, I'm kinda jealous, never had a lawn mower protector. I hate my lawn mower and I wish sometimes someone would terrorize it with a mower bomb. lol So, you better keep Helen, you need her more than I do. Congratulations on the compliments. There's another NSV! I haven't had one of those yet Oh well, I know I have lost. How is everyone else this morning??? I know Sharon is not at home, Susan is just being grumpy, Lynn is at school and Betty is here. Where are all the lurkers and how are they doing? Are yall staying in the box? Are you losing? Are you there?????? Gotta git, got lots to do today. Everyone have a good day! lisa

See, Betty. There were changes and you didn't even know it. THAT IS CALLED A NON-SCALE VICTORY!!!! (NSV) Just remembet that next time you get stuck. Your body is just catching up with the loss. Go Betty! Did you measure before you started? I did. Haven't measured in a while, but I have lost at least 7.5 inches from my waist. It happens when you least expect it. lol lisa
  15. KarenB - thanks for info on the photos. I am been thinking about taking some. I have one of my husband and I pre-band that I need to scan in and have new photos next to. I think that will help. Congrats on your success! You are an inspiration! RubyJane - GREAT JOB! Keep it up! Stories like yours help those behind you to keep going. Erin - thanks for the encouragement. I have been looking for NSVs, because the scale can be very frustrating!

    May 2007 Banders

I must admit I am feeling deficient in the weight loss department when I look at some of your tickers. My scale and me just have not been getting along much lately. I am at the lowest I have been in a long time though so I am thrilled about that. It is really hard not to compare yourself to others on here. How much have those of you with 4cc bands gotten for your fills? My last one was only .2 cc. NSV-My capris are so loose they look like pants that are too short. I seriously need a belt. I just wish I could fit into those 3 pairs of capris that are a size 16 in my closet. I absolutely refuse to buy any new clothes until they are smaller sizes. As badly as I need work clothes I would rather look like a scrub than buy another 18/20 anything!
  17. Good morning everyone... NSV again...2 more guys at work told me how good I am looking....I love hearing that!! OK, so I have a goal...onederland by Thanksgiving. I think it is an attainable goal. I should be able to lose 14 pounds by then. If there is a will there is a way!! Everyone have a great day!
  18. Hi everyone, guess who has internet access in her lesbian owned B&B??? I need to call Pamela about grabbing coffee tomorrow.... Eddie, Fantastic NSV! You've got to be stoked! Newbies-welcome. We're a happy little group here. XO
  19. These are the NSV's that are worth it. They make you feel great when you don't have a SV that week. You will start noticing the smallest things. It is great. When other people notice and start pointing it out, it is so worth it. It isn't in the pounds, it is in everything else in your life. I promise, you will learn to take the NSV's over the SV's any day. I have learned from experience.....even though the scale isn't moving, your body is changing. I was looking back at pictures yesterday from June 29th and there was such a big difference in the way I look. It is amazing. You don't realize how much 5 or 10 pounds does for you. Congrats on all of it!!! Erin
  20. Mark---isn't it the most bizarre feeling to look forward to getting on the scale!!! I would NEVER have believed that before!!!!! However the last one----I am begining to think it is age---the grunt as you get up, and the sigh as you sit down!!! I don't do either if I am busy---but when I am relaxing---even 100 pounds down, I still do it!!!!!! My newest NSV----over the weekend, I had 2 people tell me I did not need to lose any more weight! I know I do, but them saying it sure felt good!!!! Kat
  21. My our little family keeps growing, this is a good thing, welcome Edd, Trish and Want2beme again, we will have to compare our power tools, lol Eddie Congratulations on our upcoming marriage and your NSV, I love those. The scale is starting to move again for me YEAHHHHH. Still have not got back to my lowest weight before I went on vacation, and that slight unfill that I had to have, but I am about 1/2 lb from it. I will get to it this week and pass my lowest point.(fingers crossed). Anyway family have a great week.
  22. Awesome Katey! I once starved myself to a size 18 and I was so happy to put those pants on. I kept them for years hoping I'd fit into them again. It's a significant NSV for you. Suzzzie - I'm probably a size 28 too. The problem is, in Australia, they don't even sell size 28 in clothing stores. Not anywhere- they only go as high as 26 (and even 26 has only been around for 10 years). If you want larger, you'd have to go mail-order and order some tent-like floral dresses or go online and order from US sites. I don't know what really big people do here. Get their clothes made I guess. I've always been able to fit 26 on the bottom but have had to go to 'Big Men's' stores to find tops. Luckily, the men tend to leave all the girlie colours/styles for me. Even in the big men's store, I was in the maximum size (7XL) Hence the lapband. It was kind of embarrassing shopping in men's clothes at first. I'm happy I don't have to go back in there again. I'll fit size 26 on top within 6 weeks for sure. VeraThomas 50 pounds since April is nothing to be disappointed about. Not many bandsters lose that much in such a short time. I'd be over the moon with that loss. I certainly hope I reach it. I've lost 34 pounds in my first two and a half months. That's including pre-op. I'm really happy with that. Darragha - you're doing great. You must have been retaining a lot of fluid to notice it in your face already. CrazyAce - the first few days a killer but you got through them. I was on liquids for a months. I still have flashbacks. It's only temporary and you'll get through it.

    Milestones, Anniversaries, SVs and NSVs

great idea for a thread... i am banded 4 mos. some of my NSV's -airplane seat belt now has 6 extra inches instead of strangling my belly. -no more blood pressure pills -went from size 22 to 16. (only downside of this is i'm spending alot of $jack$ on clothes i'm wearing for weeks.....but i'm not complaining) -i'm going on my first date in years (i wouldnt date being fat) -not having to shop in fat lady stores (this is the best) as it was said below...the band is definitely a tool but i am working hard to make this a success. thanks and have a great day

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Yikes.. we must all have the eyebrow vibe. I got mine waxed yesterday when I got my hair cut and colored. I'm a blonde, blonde now. We call it "screaming blonde". It's not blonde enough unless I'm screamin'!! I got lots of compliments at the beauty shop and all those nsv's sure feel good. One question.... does swatting fruit flies in the kitchen count for a cardio workout??? arghhhhhhhhh they are bad right now. I don't have a clue why! I've not had them for years and years.. ever since I left some potatoes in the pantry and they ummmmmmm rotted. Hmmmmmmmmmm think I'll take a look in the pantry and see what I can find. It's a little cooler here today so I'm going to paint the deck railings. I just finished my tuna fish and watermelon for lunch. I'm good to go until we go out tonight to have dinner with friends. We got our Alaska cruise documents in the mail the other day so we're going to go over them and see what excursions we want to do. I'll be headed to Curves at 3 so DD can weigh me and take my measurements. Laura.... are you exercising?? That's the only thing that will reduce the inches on me and help with the weight loss. I try and do some exercise for 30 min. each day. I'm guessing poker is right up there with fruit fly swatting as far as exercise goes..
