  1. I had a meltdown at the gym early this morning (Saturday). I'm on the treadmill listening to music and all of a sudden I started thinking about the surgery on Tuesday and I got so emotional and started crying on the treadmill. I immediately left the gym, drove across the street to this restaurant, ordered a coffee with sweet n low, a cup of grits, 1 bacon and english muffins and I ate it all. Then I went to the grocery store to finish buying all the foods I need for after I come home from the hospital and the liquids I need for the day before surgery. My 10 day pre-op diet consists of 2 Protein shakes, 2 fruits, tons of Water and 2 healthy choice/smart ones/weight watcher meals per day. I hope I didnt mess myself up by eating that piece of bacon and the english muffins. I stopped crying once I ate that food. I wonder why did that happen to me like that. It happened so suddenly.
  2. Just an introduction. My surgery date is August 14th B'ham. I made the lapband decision almost 1 year ago; employer added procedure to their insurance coverage Jan 2008 (a sign from God I'm convinced) & I started my 6 month pre-lims on Jan 6th. I am finishing my 3rd day of liquid pre-op...I haven't gone 3 days without solid food ever in my life! I don't talk much...just prefer to listen...one of my best skills! I am married to a life of the party guy...19 years now. We have 2 boys 13 & 15 yrs old. I love LSU football & baseball. Probably won't post much, but wanted you all to know how much each of you inspire me! Keep posting...I'll be reading. Is there any way to make the screens move faster?
  3. When it seems like I am not losing, or losing too slow. I know why, however, and I know now, understand now more than I ever did - why this surgery is so invaluable. I have issues with my metabolism that is quickly regulates to whatever calories I am putting in...and it gets very hard to trick it...My sis ter was the same but instead of the furnace banking itself, hers burned red-hot. At one point she ate 4800 callories a day and was still a size 0. We both caught a very bad flu once, I lost 15 lbs and was getting "you gos!", she lost 15 and was in the hospital. I need not trick it anymore - there is no feeling of being desperate to lose before I fail on my diet. I ma waiting out my metabolism, and winning. I finally decided on the surgery because I had lost just enough weight (from 1/2011 till 10/2011) that they could see the cause of my issues with my stomach – I had a tumor growing in/through/ and progressing out into my abdomen from my stomach. So since I was going to have to have so much removed anyway, and I HAD been looking into one WLS or another for a decade (lol), I decided it was time. Sleeved 1/2012 – will never go back to what I was, ever. The fat lady syndrome doesn’t help slow losing, I just have to remember to not let it get me. – I still am not “seeing” myself at the size I was (almost) not the size I am. That isn’t helpful at all! But I look at my NSV’s – and they are real. Squeezing into a size 12 recently made me dizzy and nauseous…not because I squeezed into the jeans, it occurred to me I could button size 12’s. I asked a lady I know (as politely as I could, but she is so nice I hope she understood) what size she was, because I was asked by a friend to “find” someone I thought I was the same size as myself, near my height. She is a size 20-22. I am a size 14, squeezing into a 12, and I see myself as a size 20-22. It's all good, however - I now have the equipment to play this game, and I win.

    Slider Food?

I had to cut way back on Protein bars, especially those delicious Power Crunch bars because they are so tasty but high in calories. I have an Atkins almond crunch day break bar for Breakfast some mornings and that gives me 10 grams of protein at 150 calories and 3 net carbs. Crackers became a slider food for me. If I could limit myself to a handful with lunch that would be one thing, but they would be calling me from the cupboard....and I could eat them all day long without feeling full, so I just stopped buying them. Anything that is a "munchie" food like chips/crackers/sweets is probably a slider, goes down easy and you start eating them compulsively. I replaced my snacking with olives & string cheese and it fills me up, so I am giving my body the food it needs and it stops the cravings. Good luck on your journey!!

    Pre-Op confusion

After my initial meeting with my surgeon, he set a weight loss goal for me of 10 pounds, I think because they want to see that I am trying to change my habits before surgery. I went to the NUT at my surgeon's office and she has been amazing. We are slowly removing sugar and Diet Coke from my diet and adding Protein and Water. This is to get me ready for the surgery. Ask the surgeon for a NUT recommendation, it is likely they work closely with one or two. I would follow either the surgeon or the NUT that is recommended diet as they will be the experts when it comes to bariatric surgery. Also, it sucks that your PCP isn't on board. Mine is very supportive, which I think will ultimately help with long-term success. I hope everything works out for you!

    5 Day Pouch Test

Tall, 2%, no whip= 200 cal, 10g pro :tongue2: starbucks® beverages Yesterday was a weird day. Long story short... I had pureed chili for dinner and for some reason after only two bites, and an hour of struggling, I PBed big time. So I'm still on liquid and mush and didn't get much to eat/drink yesterday. Yesterday Breakfast: Starbucks Tall Peppermint Mocha, no whip (200 cal/10 pro) Lunch: chocolate Slimfast (190 cal/ 10 pro) Snack: Jello (80 cal/ 2 pro) Dinner: PBed Snack: Starbucks Tall Peppermint Mocha, no whip (200 cal/10 pro) Snack: Baby Bell cheese (70 cal/ 5 pro) I am so super hungry today. I wish I could eat a great big juicy steak and baked potato.:smile2: My band is so tight from PBing that I'm afraid to have anything more solid than mashed potatoes anyway-- a blessing in disguise I suppose. Today Breakfast: Starbucks Tall Peppermint Mocha, no whip (200 cal/10 pro) Lunch: Chocolate Slimfast (190 cal/ 10 pro) Snack: Mashed Potatoes (119 cal/ 2 pro) Going to try pureed chicken enchilada soup for dinner Is anyone else trying the 5 day test this week?
  8. I ran across this site the other day and it reminded me of what cheryl2586 posted here, now mind you we can't eat all the stuff that they suggest on the site, but there is some really good ideas like the salad one: http://thedecoratedcookie.com/2010/10/a-mason-jar-meal-my-6th-pfb-challenge/

    Countdown to your Bandiversary!

Hang in there Crystal. Look at the positive, you have only gained two pounds. How much would you have gained in the same situation pre-band? I could pack on 10 pounds in three days before I got my band. Troubles with friends are the most stressful. Be good to yourself and get back on track. Another fill will help and you will get back where you want to be quickly. I have found that my weight loss has slowed a lot and I have been bouncing the same three or four pounds around for about two months, but hey, you know, I am in a whole different place than I was a year ago. Even if I don't lose another pound I am happy where I am. (I still plan to lose some more though)

    Countdown to your Bandiversary!

I'm in the same situation as Rhapsody. I was doing so awesome with this lapband.. but I had actually found my sweetspot and then me and one of my best friends got into a horrible fight that lasted a week. We had never had something like this happen before and it stressed me out so bad that my band reacted. I couldn't eat, I got week, my band closed up. From then on my band has never been the same again. A week before Thanksgiving I had to have half of my entire fill taken out and they have slowly been adding it back, but I'm still wide open and can eat whatever, whenever. I haven't lost a single pound in two months, but thankfully I've only gained two pounds. It has been very depressing as now I think I'm the lowest losing VV on here. But it's like I've forgotten all the stuff I use to eat or something. I don't eat fast food or anything like that, but like with salads, I've been drenching them with ranch, and when I ate tuna and whole wheat crackers, I'd only eat 4 crackers and now I eat like 10 or more! On the 21st I'm getting another fill and my biggest fear is that I won't be able to reach a good restriction or that my body just doesn't agree with the lapband anymore.

    Getting A Head Start.

I'm getting sleeved on June 11th....I have my last pre-op appt on May 22nd, that's when the NUT suggested I start...so I'll be on the pre-op diet for almost 3 weeks (its my own fault, my doctor took some Fluid out of my band in Feburary because I was starting to get really bad acid reflux, and I've gained 10 pounds ( ) I've bought alot of sample packets from bariatric pantry.com as well as CHIKE.. I'm in Houston, Texas, my surgeon is Dr. Yu
  12. Hi! I'm going to be getting sleeved in November and like many of us here, I have concerns and fears. I think about it constantly, but know that I've exhausted all options to try and lose and maintain but I have failed miserably. PCOS doesn't help this one bit. I wanted to hear from some of you who have had the surgery over a year ago. Since this surgery is fairly new comparied to Bypass or the band, long term effects really aren't well known. I'd like to hear how folks are doing 2, 3, 5, 10+ years out. Any complications? Anything come up that you didn't expect? Since this is so permanent, and 85% of your stomach is gone, that is quite scary to me. How does your body react? Does something happen years down the road? For example, I know now that folks are finding a lot of problems with the band and many doctors aren't doing it anymore. So things like that. Just looking I guess for affirmation that this is the right decision and long term, I will be ok! Thanks so much! Karen
  13. I have had a hard time since a trip to Europe the beggining of Oct. Then of course there was thanksgiving, christmas, new years. I have put on 30 pounds from my lowest weight. I was told by a few people I lost a little too much weight. I have going to loose 20 and see how I look and if my jeans fit. I can't workout right now because I just had a boob job 12/21. I had my trainer put me back in the schedule 1/10. I hope the doc. okays that. It will be 3 weeks. Yesterday and today have been great eating wise. I have broken up my daily food into 6 mini meals. I think this will work well for me. I also started journaling again. Let's hope my motivation continues. I think I'll be in a good spot if I can just put 3-4 good days together. I never want to be fat again! Thanks for listening.
  14. Hi, I don't know how much you weigh, but you are right about extra skin. You are young and have more elasticity even if you have some extra skin it won't be as much as some people 10-20 yrs older(usually). The other reason for doing the band vs bypass for me was that you have more control, it is reversable, you do not have as many problems with malabsorption. You will still need vitamins, but you won't have to worry about dumping(ok so I don't really know what that is but I don't think that it is plesant) All that being said, I am not banded yet but am looking forward to it. Good luck, research, research, research and then pick what will work best for you.
  15. I have a little experience with excess skin, lap band and RNY. I was always on the heavy side since childhood and when I was 19 I lost over 100 lbs fairly quickly with the help of drugs that you could get very easily back then but were not done through a prescription. I then gained it back over the course of a year and then the following year lost it again. During those two weight losses I had no extra skin. I then put on about 25lbs became pregnant and had a 9lb11oz baby and stretched out my stomach, gained some weight over a 3 year period and had a 10+lb baby and stretched out my stomach a lot more. So basically even though I lost weight quickly the first two times I had no extra skin and didn't until I had to the two babies. I don't know if it's a quick weight gain then loss that creates the skin, genetics or what but I don't think you can say that with lap band you'll have no extra skin and with RNY you will. I will always have extra skin no matter what. My daughter was a quick gainer of weight prior to her RNY. I think she may have put on an extra 60 lbs fairly quickly at one time so since her surgery she's having extra skin issues and is in her 20s. So maybe it's a quick gain that does it not necessarily a quick loss that guarantees the extra skin or both. Just a thought. It does take more time to recover from RNY as I have been there since my daughter's surgery this past May. There are many more things you have to take in order to supplement your diet basically for the rest of your life. It works, I've heard people can gain back weight after a period of time but not as much as the had lost in the beginning. I personally did have a difficult time letting my daughter go through this as she's my flesh and blood and no one wants their child to go through something this traumatic but then I knew if she didn't she'd be miserable and she chose this surgery over the lap band as she felt it had a better rate of success. I don't know if my issues had that much to do with it as she's a pretty smart cookie and makes up her own mind. Nancy:smile:
  16. No matter what I tried I couldn't get rid of the pain in my shoulder. For me it was just time. I finally noticed that I didn't have the shoulder pain about 9-10 weeks after surgery. For me that was the worst part of the whole procedure however I would do it again in a heartbeat. No regrets!

Does anyone use a Wii Fit??

I want the my fitness coach to. I homeschool all three of my kids, so having the ability to steal 10-15 minutes here and there for a workout is much easier than finding an hour or two during the day...

    Mile Stones

I had an appointment for a fill yesterday I am 163.7 Not bad i am about 13.7 away from my goal of 150. He commuted on my great ab mussel he said he could feel them the problem was that they were covered up with alot of skin and said it time to talk about plastic. He said normal he waits one full year but in my case since i am so active he did not think he had too. My main probelm is my upper arms the skin rubs every time i move my arms and is very ichy and i have a nice little rash. It gets worst when i sweet so i would relly like to have my arms done. I am going to Fl for 3 weeks in Jan and I just relized i have no summer cloths my shorts were a 14/16 along with my swim suits and now i am a 8/10/12. I guess i have to go shopping down there and pick up a few pair of shorts. I have now lost 75% of my exess weight he said the last 25% will be the hardest he said that alot of it is Skin and till that remove it might be hard. I landed up with a fill. I also saw the great fellow who took care of me in July when i got too tight because of kindeny infection and then prolapsed my band. She said I gave her a very interesting first week . She also commited on my port sticking out now so it not hard to find when she last got it she had to go under floro to find my ports she said nope now you so skinny i don't have to even look for it. I also found my hip bone. This is huge I was laying on my side and i felt the bone I had no idea what it was but then relized it was bone. I look at how my life has changed I could not walk up my own stairs in April and now I teach Zumba and I work out all the time. I have a new creeer as a personal trainer / group exercise teacher and I would never been able to do any of this with out my band. I love my band and I am very thankful for this chance to live my life.

So Happy For you!!!!!! I am so jealous! I am down 35 pounds and am still in same clothes and size! guess I was stuffing myself into those 18/20.LOL I think I am bordering on dropping a size and need about 10 pounds to go! This is why no one has noticed any weight loss I guess since I am in the same old outfits!!!! Keep it up. The day I can't shop in the Avenue will be a very happy day for me!! Hate that store!

How old is too old to be sleeved?

My mom is 73 and has a 2nd meeting with the surgeon in July. She has a band that was placed in 2006 which has failed. If she can get the weight off and have 10 years quality of life it is well worth it. She has bad knees from the weight but otherwise is in good health.

    Please answer one more time

I think my week 3 stall lasted 7-10 days. I don't remember. After the stall broke, i started my current trend of losing ~.5 lb/day or 3-4 lbs/wk. It was frustrating, but it passed!

    Diarrhea 9days post op

I would be thrilled to have diarrhea.. I take a stool softener every day and I've only pooped twice since 10/25! Dr says it's normal with the decrease volume. Down from 3,000 calories a day to about 700. Sip Water all day to replenish Fluid and add some bulk (fiber) to your diet. As long as you aren't shaky or sweaty it is just as normal as not pooping.

    New Bunny Reporting In

I'm located in Texas, Dallas area. I'm actually going to Oklahoma for my surgery, my best friend had her's done by a wonderful doctor there, and a 3 hour drive is no biggie for the piece of mind of having a surgeon I trust. There are MANY great docs in Texas, but for some reason this guy puts me at ease. I remember going to her pre-op appointments and I had an instant feeling of safety around him. He's just one of those types, comforting with excellent bedside manner. So for me it's worth the short drive. My pre-op diet is 10 days. The first 7 are low-cal, low-carb (shakes, salad, chicken breast etc). The final 3 are high-Protein liquids only (and nothing red). As far as rushing back to work, I don't want to do that either. I wish I could have a full week off....actually, I wish I could find another job. I'm hoping after my surgery when I lose some weight I'll have the confidence in myself to tell this guy to "stick-it" and go find a job where I can be happy.
  25. I had my surgery more than one month ago and I have not lost any weight in the past three weeks. I went for my first fill last week and was told that I already had 5cc in a 10 cc band from surgery and so she added another .7cc. I think I can eat alot of food and I am really worried that my band will stretch. I experience PB alot so I am still adjusting to the eating thing. How much food is too much? I was able to eat two slices of pizza for dinner and I am worried. I feel like I am going to fail at this. I was never a huge eater. My problem was my sweet tooth. Does this band mean that I have to be on a low carb no fat diet for the rest of my life? I am definate;y eating alot less then I was pre surgery but I am so frustrated that I was able to lose alot more pre diet than post. I definately fo not feel like I have enough restriction even with 5.7cc. I do not feel that my appeitie is curbed at all. I am a nursing mother and I am wondering if that has anything to do with it. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
