  1. So, I went to the appt to see about doing this, actually talked to my surgon. I have to go to the phsy testing. Acutally waiting to get that doc to call with an appotiment time. So, the surgon says that since my bmi is so high 64, I may get approved without the 6 months of some sort joining something like WW for 6 months. I am worry that me going to the doc getting weighted and such wont be enough and I will have to wait for this. I am wondering if anyone heard about getting approve quicker with such a high bmi? Second thing that has me worried is that I have been reading Carnie Wilsons book, and she said she knew when to stop cause she felt full and this was the tool. Right now eat so much to feel full, what if I need to eat more than I should I dont want to do this and not be able to stop or feel like I can like I do at times now. The last thing, is I am scared the dietation told me that I probley only lose a 120 - 150 lbs and that my body will stop me losing anymore, no matter what I do I wont be able to lose any more. So that means at my current weight I will only get down to a max of 250. Sure its alot better than I am right now but I want to get down under 200 and they are saying I cant with the lap band at all. Any feedback will be welcoming, Thank you all
  2. Down 68lbs since surgery 4/26 and 82lbs total since 3/1! January I only lost about 3 lbs, February I doubled it and lost almost 6. I wish I was having the 8-10lbs per month that I use to have, but I realize that as time goes on, the weight comes off slower..so I am grateful to still be losing at all! I also realize that I can still be doing more to help that along...its just getting harder to stay motivated, and in a positive mind frame sometimes....but I can do this...I WILL do this! Anyone else at this mark of the journey, finding their motivation slipping?
  3. Hi Debs I'm very, very overweight and had my sleeve operation done on Tuesday. Two weeks before that I went on a very low calorie diet, it consisted of just a 3tblsp helping of cereal (no added sugar) semi skimmed milk, for lunch I had two crispbreads with either a boiled egg or 10z of cheese - and for my evening meal I had a 2oz portion of either meat or fish with salad or veg - I was also allowed one pot of low fat yogurt, and two portions of fruit per day. I did that for six days and then I went onto the clear liquids only diet - which meant black tea, coffee, sugar free juices, I was allowed batchelor's (not that I want to mention brand names) low calorie minestrone soup, with all the bits sieved out - sugar free jellies, and if I fancied it a stock cube made into a hot drink. I was amazed to find I lost over 20lbs in the two weeks before the operation. The surgeon was soooo pleased with me - he told me before the operation how well I'd done - and the following two days when he came to check on me, told me again how well I'd done and how me losing so much weight had really made the operation as simple as it should be! Believe me, the diet was well worth sticking to - just to hear him say it and know the operation wasn't as difficult as it might have been. I've got five tiny little scars (I know they have to be tiny due to the size of the plasters) even the one they said was the largest is only about an inch and a half. I can't believe I only had pain killers for less than 24 hours - I had the catheter removed a few hours after the op and was sat talking to visitors that afternoon and evening. I am so much better than I expected to be (although I did hear that I'd been quite a while in the recovery room) I haven't been sick - and I'm able to do everything for myself. I do hope my story will fill you with confidence and that losing weight will make a real difference to your operation and recovery. I don't regret mine for a moment. Like you, I couldn't go up a flight of stairs, my ankles and lower legs were full of water and I feel more 'human' already. Very best wishes and add me as a friend if you'd like to keep in touch
  4. I have BCBS (AL) ans started in May of 2014, got wrong advice and had to start my six months of documentation over again, they dont have to give every single weight in 2013, do you have any that was above the limit? Im supposed to have my surgery in April....
  5. Yes, you can stall in the later months too. I'm 9 months out, and I've lost only 9 pounds since February. That is about 3 pounds a month, and it seems that those 3 pounds happen within two days and the rest of the month -- nothing. I am exercising and eating right and drinking right. I can feel the muscles forming, and I can see definition in places I've never had definition before. I think the stall is because my body is transitioning. I know I was really worried that I wouldn't show a weight loss with my doctor, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn it was a 9 pound weight loss. My doctor said that it is normal to lose slower as I get closer to goal. He also mentioned that my body may change and go down in size without actually going down in weight (he's right). The good news is that I haven't stopped losing. When I haven't lost pounds, I have lost inches. I've also noticed that even when my measurements don't necessarily change, the way clothes fit me does. Something is going on as a result of all my hard work even if it isn't showing up on the scale.
  6. Did great the first six months, now haven't lost anything the past 2 months, just losing and gaining the same 2 pounds. I am so not looking forward to my next appt. with my surgeon on June 22. I am so embarrased that I may not even have lost a pound by then. Everyone talks about the 3 week stall and the 3 month stall. Anybody experience a stall in the later months? Help! Ducker
  7. For me, I'm highly irregular anyways and there's been anecdotal evidence that people who are irregular tend to even out a bit after losing weight. I imagine that if that is true then it could affect people the opposite way as well.
  8. Completely agree with @@VSGAnn2014 . Heart attack post-op is not a typical WLS course. Are you on any meds as a result of the heart attack? Some medications can also slow down weight loss. Either way be patient. It will happen.

    My First Nsv!

    Congratulations on your weight loss!
  10. Hi everyone, First let me say that I'm so glad to have this forum to here all our stories and get the encouragement I need to move forward with this surgery. I'm traveling to TJ to get my surgery with Dr. Lopez Corvala. I see this as the start of a journey to a heathly life. I'm like so many of you in that I've tried & tried to lose weight but always ended up heavier than before. I'm so tired of having all these aches & pains that I hope are due to the extra weight. I'm just a little nervous, not so much about the surgery itself but the trip home so soon after. I'm being released and then staying over night before my trip back to the east coast. Should I pack my clear liquids to have something to put in my new tummy. I can't even imagine not being hungery after the few tablespoons of food. I'd realy like to hear about the liguid phase of recovery. Thanks all, Claire

  12. I have been through what u have. With time you'll start to feel better. It will never go away just get easier to deal with. As for the band start over. Just as u just had your surgery. I was banded in 07 I lost 130lbs than got pregnant and gained back 100lbs. I was depressed and devistated. I ate how much and what I wanted. I had a prolapse and had it fixed. I started over and today at the docs I was down to 161 lbs. I started at 310. Good luck you also can do it!!!!

    Rebanding tomorrow

I was rebanded last year, I had the older 4cc/10cm band. I did not have band slippage though, I had a hiatal hernia that was pushing up causing pain in my back and chest and in order for my surgeon to repair my hernia, he had to remove the old band because the older 4cc bands don't unbuckle without destroying the lap band system, so he removed my old band and replaced the new one and hiatal hernia repair all in one surgery. For me, and others who've been rebanded have reported the bigger Allergan bands takes a LOT longer to feel restriction or satiety...so be prepared for that if you have to get a new band, I WISH I could have kept my old band, but I am finally getting used to the bigger band and I've lost all my regain weight, It took a year to lose 50 pounds. Since you have a slip, I would just ask my surgeon to re-position, if possible, and repair the slip rather than getting a new band, but again, the 'newer' bands are supposed to be safer long term because they lower pressure on the esophagus, but many people still have their older bands and are still doing well. Good luck!

    Eating

800 calories a day is great at 4 weeks. I was able to start getting that high once I was on solid foods. I pushed hard to get up to around 1100 calories a day when I started intense workouts and spent most of my weight loss phase at about 1400-1500 a day. Sounds like you are doing well!

    7 month slowdown/stall ?

I hit numerous stalls! Surgery was June 2015 so I don't remember all the details but I was 20lbs down at one month, 50lbs down at 6 months, and I stayed there for a while, give or take five pounds, then was down 65 pounds at my one year. I gained 15ish back after putting my dog to sleep (I would have put on 40 pre surgery) and now I'm working on taking it off before my two year appointment. After that I'd like to lose another ten but will be ok if I don't. I try to focus on how far I've come, live with the plateaus, stay positive and not beat myself up. I feel better physically and emotionally when I'm doing the right things, and lousy when I don't. The subsequent weight loss or gain is secondary. I hope this helps!
  18. Hello all, My journey began last October, while in nursing school(LVN Nursing) I realized that if I am going to do the job I plan for, I needed to lose a lot of weight. At the end of a 10 hour clinical day my back and hips hurt! So I contacted Kaiser, and they signed me up for the Bariatric program. After 12 weeks of attending their night classes during my lunch break from school, I finally completed the program last March. I scheduled my surgery for the first available date, April 14th. I took my NCLEX test while on the liquid pre-op diet required for surgery. I'm glad to say that I was still able to pass my test, even with the tummy distraction:) Anyways, the week before surgery I began to get sick, and woke up the day before with a temperature of 102. So I had to call my surgeon, and he cancelled my surgery. I took some time to think the surgery over and try to lose weight on my own like my family begged me to do. Then I saw the pictures of the girl had her surgery a few days before mine was scheduled to be. She had lost 50 lbs. and looked amazing, healthy, and happy. As I looked at her pictures, I was reminded of why I want this for myself. So I called my surgeon and met with him. Set my surgery for the soonest available date (Sept. 8). Well, my husband's birthday is September 4th, and he wanted a Harley. We went to pick it up August 28th, so we could go on one Harley ride before surgery. Well, I wanted to get on and take a picture with it, and burned my leg. I didn't think anything of it for a few days. August 30th I woke up because of a pain in my leg. The blister from my burn had come off, and it was a painful red mess. I just put a bandaid on it and went back to bed. The next morning, I could tell it was infected. I cleaned and bandaged it, and yesterday(Sept. 1) it was finally starting to look better. Went to my obgyn today, and she noticed my bandage, so she asked to take a look. She said it still looked like a very slight infection. She notified my surgeon, and now he is thinking of cancelling my surgery. I am so disappointed. I will not know until next Wednesday if I'm having surgery or not. I have an appointment scheduled then so he can take another look at it. If this is cancelled, it will be my second surgery cancelled for unrelated acute medical conditions. LAME!! Praying that it heals up well by Wednesday. Thanks for letting me vent. Sarah
  19. One of the stipulations of my insurance (BCBS of AL) is that the qualifying BMI (35) has been persistent for 3 years. I called my PCP and got my weights from 2011-2014 and I have 1 weight that wouldn't qualify...all the others are no problem. The other part that sucks is that the low weight/BMI was from 2013, so if I can't get approved now, then it will be several years. I found this out yesterday and had the biggest pity party, complete with crying for a good 30 minutes lol. After I got my composure, I started trying to think of a solution. I am wondering if I went back further than 3 years that it would be enough to document my history. Would a letter from my PCP help my chances of getting approved? A letter from me? I'm going to email the insurance coordinator for my surgeon on Monday to see if she thinks any of this will help. Any suggestions or advice from you all would be much appreciated!
  20. call them. i have them (live in nh but insured in ma). they did not have anything additional to what the hospital running the program had. i am currently awaiting their review and hopefully approval. i had 1 general info session, 1 nurse meeting, 1 social worker meeting, 2 nutritionist meetings, 3 group nutrition meetings and had to lose 5% of my weight. good luck! 21. Well, hopefully by the time you feel comfy enough to get down n dirty with someone you feel comfy enough to talk about your weight loss n how you're a lil insecure about being naked in front of someone.. Munky
  22. I just started seeing someone new... first date was about a month post op, we decided to become "official" last week (a bit over 2 months). I told him I had a surgery and that I've lost a large amount of weight, but I didn't tell him it was WLS and I feel a bit guilty about it. I told him I had laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery instead, which isn't necessarily untrue, because that was part of what my surgeon did while I was cut open... it just wasn't the main surgery I got haha. It works for now because the dietary restrictions are believable and the scars are the same but I'm worried what will happen down the road when I still have dietary restrictions and weigh like 60lbs less and am covered in saggy skin Is it weird I'm more concerned about the skin than the fat? He doesn't seem to mind the fat but who knows about the skin. Anyways, I wish I had been 100% honest about it, I wasn't expecting it to go anywhere when I initially told him about it. I know it's a bit different, since for me it's still very obvious I am/was fat--but I'd probably tell him if I were you if only for your own peace of mind. The uncertainty is the worst. If he's worth anything he won't mind.

    Weight History Cigna

I have BCBS Federal and they required a 2 year weight history as well except I was rarely sick so I didnt have 2 full years. I had data from 2008 and data from 2011. I wasnt as heavy in that data, but still obese and they had no problem accepting the data with a gap in it. I dont know how Cigna works but that was the one thing that I was most worried about when my information was submitted for approval. Good luck to you.

    Shaky?

Yes it sounds like ur iron or sugar is low like mine. I have not lost much weight at all. I had my band removed in December 2013 and sleeved March 2014 and only lost 34 pds and gained back 13 pds. Now I've learned I'm battling hypoglycemia. I worked out hard over the past few years watched my fat intake and now I'm told I'm not getting enough fat in and to stop working out. Been battling dehydration for over year. I get headaches and acid feeling from my stomach which triggers headaches. I really regret this surgery. All of them
