Got stuck for the first time
alilbittyna replied to alilbittyna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really was funny, but thank goodness I was in a closed ladies room stall. LOL. My husband said that it was a good thing I was eating chicken (flapping like a chicken) and not beef or I might have had to moo and stop my hoof!! LOL It worked this time, but I am going to do my damndest not to ever have that happen again! It was painful, scary and I really almost threw up all over my desk! I would have stood there and flapped like a chicken right away if I knew it would have worked right away!!! It was sort of like the last resort type of thing before having to do the finger down the throat thing. -

Females. Is it normal to start menstrating after surgery ?
iggychic replied to beachblondeee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Blood from the abdomen does not drain out the whoo ha. (Quick answer). Blood in your body cavity will be absorbed by the body over time (over a long time if you have severe bleeding) or through a drainage tube if your doctor places one, but it won't be picked up by any female devices known to man or woman kind That said, there are many issues in surgery that effect your cycle. First, rapid weight loss throws your hormone levels into shock. You produce massive levels of estrogen which can trigger a cycle for most, but for some actually have the opposite effect. So changes in your cycle are normal with weight loss. Secondly the effects of the trauma to our bodies can do the same thing. Many people experience this after a major surgery where anesthesia is involved. You might find that your cycle changes a bit for the first six months or more after surgery (depending on how long you see rapid weight loss). I found that my once sporadic cycle regulated while going through IVF and stayed that way for the first time in my life for two years afterwards, but now that I've had the surgery I'm back to the "whenever my body feels the need" cycle, which can be once a month, every few weeks, or I often skip a month. So back to normal weight...back to normal cycles...or abnormal in my case. But rest assured, its not blood from surgery. Just wacky girl germs getting to you -

So far so good!!! Samuel picked me up- very friendly. Speaks great English Marriott is very nice. Way nicer than I expected. They bend over backwards for you. Hotel is nice. Room is nice. The chicken broth was great. Popsicles not so much. Best part was meeting Jeanie and her mom. I have been talking to her about 2 weeks now and we are having surgery same day. I am here alone and her and her mom took me in and we hit it off right away. Feeled blessed to have met them. -
I posted thisin the general section, but have gotten no replies so far, so I thought I would post it here... I have a question about the 6 month medically supervised diet. I just went to my PCP this week and he is supportive of my decision to get the lap band, so I am beginning the 6 month diet. I really would like to lose some weight before the surgery and I am motivated to try and stick to a diet. I am 5'2 and weigh 277, so I have room to lose quite a bit and still be over the required BMI. My question is--say I lose 40 pounds. Will my insurance company deny me because I have proven that I CAN lose weight? Of course, I can lose weight, but keeping it off is a whole other problem!

Hey Reyanne, I am 7 weeks post op and doing great. I feel wonderful (really no different than before). I had lapband and plication so my recovery was about 4-5 days rather than 1-3 but doing great. What they tell you about gas and pain in your shoulder is true, but hang in there and know it will go away (heating pad was my best friend). I walk 2-3 miles everyday and just completed my first 5K. I am 59 yrs old and my kids are grown too. I am now down 45 pounds. Feel free to contact me if you want to talk. I am happy with my band, but follow the docs directions (although the liquid diet is a killer) and you will be happy too - not only pain wise but with your weight loss. I have had one fill and have another on on Friday. Good luck with your surgery and stay in touch.... Melinda

Hell Rayanne I am schedule for my lapband October 10th..... 5 days!!!! I'm getting nervous ready to get this journey started. Of course I have so many people that want to share all the horror story of failure with Lapband , so I guess I want to prove some of those folks wrong. I have had just as many people give me sucess stories. I have two adult daughters and three grandchildren. I would love to be a lapband buddies or just a lapband friend I realize it will be a long process and support from people that know what your feeling and going through is going to be an important tool for sucess. So let me know if you want to be Lapband buddies/friends . Promise you I won't be a Debbie Downer........even though my name is Debbie...LOLLLLL

Before my husband had his band, he was on the Atkins for a while and then Optifast the week just before his surgery. The week before my surgery I too will be on the optifast. (at least I think that is the brand.) The liver will shink with the weight-loss, and the reason for this is that our surgeon wants the most room to be able to do the surgery.

About two months preop i stopped sugar, including pasta, bread and all starch. Plus i stopped caffine and i dud this on my own. My preop diet from my dr was A shake twice a day and then chicken and salad for dinner, for two weeks. Then three days preop clear liquids only. I stuck to it pretty close and never cheated while on liquids. I think it helped prepare me for sure.

I love my FitBit. I got it in September for my Birthday. In October, they came out with a Pink band. If I'd known, I would have told my Boyfriend to wait a few weeks before ordering it. I really want a pink band. I think it was only available in October.

I've been looking to get a FitBit before my surgery (late Dec/early Jan - undecided yet). Any one have experience with this gadget? I love metrics and data, so keeping track with something like this pre/post surgery (maybe 1 or 2 weeks pre) would be interesting. scale that goes with it, but not sure if that's overkill or not. My wife might not go for it, but I could ask Santa ...

I'm not really needlephobic, but I think fills are very uncomfortable. However, this last one was done by my surgeon's husband, who is also a surgeon, and it was better than the previous 2. I still have a huge bruise though, two weeks out. I'm working on getting my head on straight and just got some pointers from my doc's nurse about it. Hopefully, I'll make some progress before my next visit.

With the not being able to eat for a day, were you stressed?? I think that when I'm really stressed I can't eat. A friend of mine that's 3.5 years out told me that when your stressed your stomach contracts. And obviously with a normal sized stomach that's not an issue but with a 1/4 of what we used to have for us it is. I know there's no way to eliminate stress from your life, but it helped me a little knowing why I was struggling to get food down and keep it there. I felt like a baby for the first 3 weeks, liquid and puréed food diet and a 2 hour nap everyday lol. I started to perk up at 4 weeks post op also

I am in the same boat with you. I walk a 3 mile loop 5-6 days a week and still haven't been able to loose weight. I just got my referral from my pcp for the vgs and I have my information class schedule on July 12. I have also have documentation of failing to loose weight under a physician care. I am hoping to get things checked off quickly. My bmi is at 40.7. I am excited for you. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
I was thinking it the moment they wheeled me into my room after recovery! LOL. It got more intense when I was getting hungry and not able to eat the foods I really wanted. Now I am perfectly happy with the sleeve and the fact that I can eat most anything is awesome. I feel like a naturally thin person when I eat. I fill up on a small portion and push the plate away. It is awesome. I go to lunch with my mom a couple times a week and we share a meal and sometimes still have food left. She is a light eater so it works out perfect!

By the way the cost is $1,500 double occupancy, for 1 week, ALL inclusive, EXCEPT air fare. It includes my workshops and all activities at the resort which includes two trips a day to the deeper reef for snorkeling. The shallow reef is the resorts backyard. It is so great one week will not seem like enough! Flights leave from Houston and Miami non-stop to Roatan. Continental airlines and I think another one is starting to fly there also) It is a short 11 1/2 hr. flight from there and both airports(HOU and MIA) are easy to fly into from any city in the US. The cost of my flight last year cost around $550 round trip from San Francisco. -
I started in January with a HW 292. I wore a 24 some 26w. 22 was the smallest I owned still and been tucked away in my closet. SW 251 that was 3 weeks ago. Finally decided to go shopping today. Even those too small 24s I swore were cut too small that never fit were too loose. I'm in a 16 jeans and 14/16 top now....Are you kidding me. I haven't seen that since high school and I'm 38. They were a little snug but hey at this rate not for long. I'm so thrilled. Yet I don't see it when I look at me. Tomorrow I try on my wedding dress. It is a 20 but small as wedding dresses are. Getting married in a couple months so I am hoping it's a little small. Sounds weird saying that. Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App

I've just been doing lots of soup (Gardenay), apple juice, and yogurt along with vitamins and clacium supplements. I am hoping that the yogurt will cover my protein needs. Speaking of that, I bought some low-fat sour cream dill dip today. I figure I can do with a break from tzatziki. I am starting to look forward to a week from today when it will be mushie time!

Post Op day 6. Scale hasn't moved an ounce.
pnwguy replied to gohelpyourself's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looking back at my weight tracker, on my day 6 post op, I weighed exactly the same as the day I went in for surgery. Over the next two days, 3 pounds came off. Another week later, and I'm another 7.5 down. - Granted I'm male, so YMMV. -
Did I make a mistake
RestlessMonkey replied to T&tummy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just think you're lucky you get mushies at 10 days! LOL I got clear liquids week one, and then got to add in .... protein shakes! (oh wow) but no I agree with the others; if it didn't hurt and it was per your doc's dietary guidelines, then you're fine. -
I am sorry your discouraged. You are doing the right things, the scale will move. Sounds like you are weighing yourself every day. In my opinion that is too often. Especially since it's discouraging you. Try to stay off the scale but once a week and record your weight. You certainly didn't gain a pound of fat, it's just natural flucuations in weight. Hope this helps!

Well I was banded 6/28/2007 I started off great. In fact with in the first two weeks I lost twenty pounds. Then I was able to eat and I had a slight gain. So I had my first adjustment and lost a couple of pounds but I still felt no restriction. Then a month later I had another and explained to my surgent that I was switching jobs and would be with out insurance for a couple of months but would follow up once I had medical coverage. Well then the holidays came and I was able to eat anything and everything and feeling depressed about it. To make betters worse the new job I took had horriable insurance and I was able to see my surgent untill yesterday 2/12/08 and the last time I was there was 9/2007. Well I gained twenty pounds back! I wasnt true to myself or this process and I do take responsabilty for my down fall however I was so affraid of my surgents responce that I brook down in tears when he came into the room. He said he wasnt suprised since I havent had an adjustment in so long and the first two I had where small ones. We had a good talk and he told me its not to late to get back on track. Unfortunaltly I am switching jobs again to something better with better coverage but I will be with out health coverage for a couple of months again. When I first started reading other post on this page it have me hope to know I wasnt alone. I hope my story will do the same for some one else. I had a big reality check! But most of all it made me realize I had this surgery for a reason and put a lot of money, time and hard work to have it and I wont to continue well. So here I am back to square one BUT I am determined to do it now and do it right!
