Vitamins and Proteins... what are your go-to's?
sc09 replied to Pistol_Annie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I got my vitamins through my surgeon. She called them into nutrition direct. $25 and I get them all delivered to my house once a month. Super easy. The protein shakes I use is the premier protein chocolate, vanilla and caramel. I also got the Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel (I tried the grape and the Caribbean Cooler and the fuzzy navel was the best to me). I didn't notice a change in my taste. I had used the pure protein banana cream and still don't have an issue with the taste. It's the thickness I couldn't deal with. I'm 6 weeks post op and may try it again and see how it is. -

I took 3 weeks and I really wanted to be off longer but the Dr said no. I work in a office so it is not hard work. I just wanted more time to focus on myself. -

Whey protein on clear liquid diet
suez1105 replied to suez1105's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So it's ok in my first week to have a protein powder that has milk and soy in it as long as I mix it with water right?? -
Thank you ladies! I've made it from scratch before as well and I wish I had thought of that when I was in there. I may call my nurse Monday and ask her what she thinks. She's had the sleeve as well. I'm going to continue with what I've been doing. I've lost 61 pounds and I'm heading into week 11 next week. I will request not to have that same nut again...ever. I also had her as a pre op and she was just as rash, rude and unhappy. Must be her thing. And i get that she sees people that fail at the sleeve. But i am in therapy every 4 weeks and have lost 43% or 61 pounds at 10.5 weeks post op. I'd say I'm making good choices or else I wouldn't be losing like this.

Has anyones doctors ok'd them to add a banana to the protein shake? I know some say u can have mashed bananas during pureed stage but I read its best to avoid fruit for a month. My NUT never said that

I need a thigh lift. I am more terrified of this than the tummy tuck. Did you have an incision down the innner thigh? Did you also get lipo on the inner and outer thigh? What was your recovery time? I am thinking 2 weeks off of work, is that realistic? How much was the cost? I heard it was very painful so I'm pretty scared. How was your experience? How much did you lose, from what size, how much fat, etc. Sorry for all the questions!

pre-op and post op diet...
BlueTattoo replied to BlueTattoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well i made a few calls for local docotrs did some research on line and did a lil research via word of mouth from people that had it done. I called my insurance company they said they would cover it. I'd have to pay 1300 out of pocket but they'd foot the rest of the bill. I have to go t a siminare on thursday to meet with the doctors again and turn in all my insurance information. So after the siminare it's the waiting game to hear back from the doctor for the approval he said 1-3 weeks for that. then i'll come in and have another meeting with them to schedual my pre-op stuff and schedual my banding. I'm nervous and scared about it at the same time but i know it's for the better. I'm also worried about the excess skin , i've sent a few pm's to people about it and they had body lifts or tummy tucks... something the insurance wont cover i dont think. Seems more cosmetic. but it wont hurt to ask them. I've been putting off the back surgery for about 3 years now because i'm just too scared to do it . They want to put spacers in my spine because i have no cartlige in the lower 4 L sections of the spine. which causes lots of pain and arthritis. I'm like a walking weather girl i know when it's gonna rain and i know when it's gonna get COLD! Lol . i 've been searching through the before and after pictures and OMG those people are so inspiring . It's like i can't wait to do that too. Today tho i hit a low . Because i'm surrounded by beautiful skinny woman who work with me. Makes me jealous then i feel bad because i envy them. Working in a casino surrounded by beautiful people and you are one of the "fat" people just brings your heart down but i keep telling myself one day i'll be thin too and it makes me feel somewhat better not alot but a enough to get through my shift. -
I am new to this, but I have done three weeks of pre-op liquids/shakes and am waiting anxiously for my band date! This forum has been a blessing to me and can't wait to be able to post my progress on here as well. Good luck everyone.

I'm on day 4 and I'm the same way. I don't feel any restriction on liquids but from what I have read, that is pretty normal. The restriction starts when you get to actual food in the next few weeks. I'm just plugging along.

Thanks all! Finally, relief today! I too had Reglan and patch in addition to Zofran. Hope you are all doing well! That was a week of hell for me, feeling good now.

My surgery was on 3 days ago, and ever since I've been having bloody noses. Not running blood, but when I blow blood comes out with the mucus. Anyone else have issues like this? Is it just a dehydration thing?

Hi im new and it has been abit worrying what i have been reading, my Dr hasn't really explained anything to me it wasn't until 3 days ago i realised i had no saline in band ( had surgrey 2 weeks ago), i have to have liquid food for 1 month (not like your 2 weeks) i read the lapbanding book and haven't gotten half things explain happen to me like no xray to see if band is right no diet advise except a vague photocopy that said ring the hospital kitchen for more info ( and if you knew what the kitchen ladies in this hospital are like you wouldn't ring them either) and then all the media hipe about the band i get a phone call at least once a day with people seeing people dying from this, people bursting from this yada yada yada and all in all its getting scary im glad i found this site it has helped me i was wondering why i am feeling hungry more often now i know thank you to all that have inputs to share with us new banders.

I'm almost 6 weeks post op and I am having a really bad time with constipation. My PCP told me to take mineral oil. Has anyone else taken this? Any advise would be helpful.:help:

Tolerances after surgery can vary widely, and for various lengths of time. Our program's general rule of thumb was to try new foods one at a time to test for tolerance - if it goes OK, great, if not, try again in a couple weeks. Meats can also vary in tolerability depending upon the cut. Dark meat poultry is often better tolerated than white meat - the extra fat helps it go down easier, while white meat is often dry. Likewise different cuts of beef will vary - our surgeon suggested filet to my wife when she was having problems with ground beef (which are usually really cheap cuts ground up) and he was right. Also, gravies and sauces (aka meat lube) can help.

I’ve been able to eat chicken, but very, very slowly. Shrimp has gone down extremely easily so I eat that nearly every day. Good thing I’m in southern Louisiana! Weirdly (for me) I have not been able to eat canned tuna. I liked it before surgery but now I can’t keep it down. I think it’s the smell rather than the texture. I developed a super sensitive sense of smell since my surgery 6 weeks ago which seems to be linked to my taste. It’s faded some, but I sure hope it fades more.

Two Weeks Out And Smack Into A Wall..
Red597 replied to oconnell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, I'm in the same boat. Just at 3 weeks out, and stalled at 25 lbs lost. But for some reason, I'm not stressed about it. I know that the scale will move again (why did that sound so ala Scarlett O'Hara?!) And I know that I'm not getting all of my protein or fluids in, but am working on it everyday. It's a process and a journey... -

HELP Wedding two weeks after surgery
NicksWife22 replied to chickatee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't been banded yet but I have had laproscopic surgery and I think 2 weeks recovery is enough time to be able to walk down an aisle for a wedding! (my opinion) Make sure you bring someone along to help with your girls, tho! I agree with the girls on here about no girdle. It just seems like it would hurt you. At bridal stores they have those 2-piece formal dresses that are slimming. They are like a matching long skirt and top. Or get a loose dress and some support hose. Since you've already made up your mind - have fun!
