    Please Help, Advice Needed!

Unless you bumped it up by like 3500 extra calories you did not really gain a pound in a day. Small fluctuations happen on the scale. In a little time it will go back down, probably that pound plus another. That’s how it seems to work for me.

    Excess skin?

Like catwoman I had lots of excess skin after 140lbs weight loss. It was hide able in clothes, not so much out of clothes. I had surgery to have it removed from my abdomen and arms, and will have my thighs done next year. Even if I couldn’t have had plastic surgery the weight loss was worth it. I’d take loose skin any day over those 140lbs.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

I was worried I would lose too much on the pre op as well and I called my surgery center and they said that it’s designed to make you lose weight and that insurance goes by the weight at your last appointment with the surgeon. I would double check that your policy is the same but I bet it’s fine to lose weight at this point if you’ve already had that last appointment.
  4. So far I have had good luck in revision due to weight gain. starting weight for sleeve 254 3 months out 204.5 weight loss of 50.5 ——————————— starting weight for bypass 245.5 3 months out I weigh 199 today (wooo!) weight loss 46.5 So the weight loss has been about the same but it has felt easier. I’m very glad I did the second surgery.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

I got my surgery on August 4th. My doctor was very happy I lost 14 pounds in the prior 2 weeks. Once you have your insurance approval, your all set..don’t worry…they want us to lose the weight at the end..it helps with shrinking the liver for surgery and helps us with our new lifestyle. It helped me so much and now I’m 21 pounds down since July 19th. Keep up the good work!!

    Revision for regain

I had revision due to weight gain a few months ago. I went from a sleeve to bypass. It was covered by my insurance but I still had to go through all the normal hoops to get to it. By the way it’s going very well and I’m happy I’ve done it
  7. I Hi All! I had surgery on July 15 so I’m just about a month out. I’m panicking because I started out at 250 before my 2 week preop diet. During my preop diet I lost 9 pounds. I went into surgery at 241 pounds. I’m now almost a month later 226 pounds. For the last week it’s been at 225 and today it jumped to 226.6. Last night I had about 600 calories…previously it’s been between 350-500. I decided to jump it up some to see if I could get over my stall and I gained!! Ugggggh…what am I doing wrong? I got this surgery to better my health and to lose weight of course and I feel Im on an up and down cycle again. Please help with advice. I figured adding more calories would help with weight loss…guess my body said nope! Feeling a little defeated!

    Lost 50 pounds

I know when I felt I stalled or slowed down, I made sure I was exercising, eating my protein, no snacks and drinking water. You did not gain the weight over night and slow progress with get you to your goal. I think you are doing wonderful.👍

    July 2021 Surgery People!

Yup, it's normal. The same thing happened to me around the 2-week mark after losing 25 lbs (Surgery was on 7/14/21). After that my scale stayed the same for almost 2 weeks :-( However, I got approved to start working out and lifting under 20 pounds and I noticed that it broke my stall. Only by a few pounds but anything is better than nothing! I also made a post on another FB support group super frustrated at the time and thinking that I was doing something wrong and many people stated this was a normal part of their journey and usually after this stall and our bodies are fully healed then the weight should start slowly melting off. I'm excited about that part lol, good luck!

    Excess skin?

I lost over 200 lbs and had a TON of excess skin. I've since had it removed. It was easy to hide in clothes so no one knew it was there except for me and my husband, but I didn't like the way I looked naked or the way it slapped up against me when I exercised. and no - it is NOT worse than weight loss. I would have taken that loose skin any day of the week over weighing almost 400 lbs again. ANY DAY. here is a picture of me BEFORE I had the skin removed. Do you see it? Nope - easily hidden in the right clothes (long-ish slightly oversized shirt to cover the abdomenal skin, 3/4 length (or longer) sleeves to cover the batwing arms, and a very supportive bra). and no, you are not too old. I am in my 60s.
  11. RNY revision to duodenal switch. I'm a little nervous. I've started this journey in March so I'm ready. I hope to post updates as time goes on. I know God is with me and i feel very positive that this time i will make it to goal weight and keep it off. When i had my original bypass almost 15 yrs. ago, i didn't have as much guidance or knowledge that i do now. Much has changed over the years and I'm so ready. Is anyone else having your revision tomorrow or very soon. I'm here for anyone who wants to chat or vent or contemplating getting a revision done. My best to all of you. God Bless!
  12. Hi ChocoSnowBunny, First, so sorry to hear you had cancer, I can't even imagine how devastating that can be and praying you never have to go through that again. Second, I'm so glad you went for another opinion. My surgeon told me not to be hard on myself because of gaining weight back because it was the surgery that failed not the other way around. Patients with a very high BMI that have the gastric bypass, will most likely gain half or all weight back because it's not the right surgery but back in 2006, even though the duodenal switch was being done, it wasn't as popular as the gastric bypass. I researched this and my doctor was right. My BMI was 55 back then. Don't be hard on yourself anymore and there is nothing wrong with you. I hope you get your appointment soon. My best to you and I'm excited to hear about your journey also.

    Excess skin?

Anyone who has lost a significant amount of weight is going to have at least SOME excess skin. The amount a person has depends on a bunch of different things such as your age (the elasticity of your skin tends to be better the younger you are and thus you're more likely to have less excess skin the younger you are), how long you've been obese, the amount you exercise/your exercise routine, the amount of weight you actually lose, etc. For me, I'm disabled, 34, and had been obese for 20+ years so after losing 210 pounds I have quite a lot of excess skin. However, I'd rather have that excess skin then the fat. I can easily hide the skin beneath clothes, so while I know it's there, everyone else doesn't. In the end, the choice for surgery is very much a personal choice. Just weigh the pro's and con's and do your research. Whatever choice you make is one that you're making for YOU, so make sure it's something that makes you happy.
  14. Hi everyone, I'm from Birmingham UK. I haven't had any surgery yet, just thinking about it but I was wondering if anyone has a problem with excess skin after a huge weight loss? Is it very noticeable? Is it worse than being over weight? Also, I'm 70 in April 2022, am I too old or vain for such a procedure?
  15. Lucylovesnormal if you’re not taking small sips to slow your rate of Water intake, I’d guess that’s a very likely cause of your stomach pains. A gulp of Water hitting your stomach, especially if you’re not careful to eliminate swallowing air, is likely to be too much and cause discomfort. By stretching your stomach out, as it empties your hunger feeling can be more intense as well. Just because you “can” drink water fine, doesn’t mean you should. Plus drinking and eating slower makes it less torturous because you can do it constantly for like 40mins per meal.  Btw I don’t understand you wanting to eat half as much as you did before… you had around 80% of your stomach removed… I don’t know your personal situation but halving your diet is unlikely to be enough to maintain a healthy weight. With this type of surgery our metabolism slows and that means we will forever need to eat significantly less that “normal people” to maintain an identical weight as someone who hasn’t undergone surgery. Your surgical team should have hopefully explained all this
  16. Have you considered other options like the gastric balloon maybe? It’s a temporary change of up to six months and could be a good way to test his personal resolve and commitment to changing his eating habits without surgery. Plus he’ll lose some weight, which might be enough motivation for him to live a healthier lifestyle

    Adding semaglutide

Not exactly your circumstance....I was on Victoza. When I first started on Victoza, I lost about 30 lbs. over 6 months. Most of it from nausea and some reduced appetite. The appetite reduction went away. I stayed on Victoza after starting my weight loss prep program and lost about another 20 lbs. That was mostly from healthier eating. Blood sugars were decent. I stopped all diabetic meds on the day of my surgery in December 2020. Have lost 110 since surgery. Sugars remain good.
  19. to be honest, after first couple of months post op, Ive been drinking sips of wine everyday, less than a cup. Hasnt affected my weight too much althou I get dizzy very quickly haha.

    What is your biggest obstacle

My biggest struggle, I guess, would be my inability to get in a wide variety of foods. I feel like I just eat protein, i.e. meat or eggs, and then have no room for anything else like vegetables, dairy, healthy fats or even starch or fruits. I have spoken to my nutritionist before about this and she says that it will change over time and to just concentrate on getting in enough protein for now. That I'm still early in the game. I try but most days I'm lucky if, in addition to the meat (protein source), I get in 4 bites of veggies total for the day. Almost never get dairy unless it's a slice or two of cheese or yogurt or cottage cheese, and rarely get in starch even though that too is suggest for my diet. Fruit I have been really trying hard to get that in at least. I'm sure eventually it will even itself out. I also am finding it hard for exercise. This Summer has been a doozy when it comes to the health of my family. My son had a procedure, then me and my surgery and now my husband had surgery last week (had a defibrillator placed), plus I take care of my 3 grandkids from about 8am until 6pm or later sometimes. Anyway, I'm finding it hard to get time in for me or even a dang walk without anyone needing me or wanting to tag along to slow me down. I wanted to get back to the gym but it's just not possible at this time. I do have an exercise bike and various sizes or bands and free weights but, I'm just no good with coming up with a plan on what I need or should be doing. Can't even seem to find time to do those either. Thankfully I am still losing weight but I'd most definitely like to be toning sh*t up too at the same time. LOL

    Insurance Through Postop

9 months in- my sleeve is officially a full term baby! Weighing in today at 184.6, total weight loss of 154.4 lbs. I lost 8.2 lbs last month, which doesn’t seem like a lot but as I get closer to my goal weight it keeps getting more and more difficult to shed those last pounds! I have less than 20 lbs to go to get to 165. Work has been difficult as we move into another Covid surge, and as my mother’s health is rapidly declining- this may be the first time in my life that I’m not handling stress with overeating. I am still moving forward with losing weight- goal or bust! At this point it is so obvious how to derail a surgery- I can eat pretty much anything. I know I wouldn’t still be losing weight if I was just relying on my surgery for portion control. If you get this surgery you have to take a look at what you are eating and be realistic if it’s only portions that’s causing your weight or if it’s the food too. The surgery helps so much but past the first few months it won’t carry you anymore. You have to be making the right choices. This next month I’m super excited to get into the 170s! It would be awesome if I could reach 175 but anywhere in that range is fine.
  22. Hello everybody. I had a mini gastric bypass probably 20 years ago. I think I lost 50 pounds to 60 pounds over the course of a year. However, I started to regain weight and my diabetes returned for no real reason. However, I’ve been on Ozempic for my diabetes and I have lost significant weight. Probably 50 pounds I weigh 190. originally 270. 230 when I started Ozempic Does anybody else have similar Results if they are on a semaglutide and bypass surgery?
  23. Update for my August revision: I had my revision earlier this month and although it feels the same as VSG physically, it is different in that I am just not hungry at all. After 1 oz of unsweetened applesauce for dinner last night, I just didn't want another bite. Some people got that with their VSG, I never did. It's hard to eat if one has zero appetite. This week my average calories was 296. I have no idea what my goal is for this stage. My surgery water weight gain is finally coming off then I can see where my weight is at but at 296 average a day, I know I lost quite a bit. Luckily, so far, it's been a pretty easy recovery. I do not have any nausea, and have not vomited. I do have off and on diarrhea. I took an Equate equivalent of Imodium, that fixed it. I still have a stitch feeling on the left side though, maybe due to CO2 still in there. I drink with no problem but I still try to sip slowly because if I do drink fast, I just know I will get nauseated. I've slept better than ever because no Gerd. I have good energy due to good sleep. Of course, I'm always worried about future complications though since it is a more serious operation compared to my sleeve.

    15-year-old with a BMI about 40. ESG

If he has never tried any other method for weight loss you may want to try something like Weight Watchers. I did it for years before I finally had surgery and saw that the younger kids were actually pretty successful. That would give you an idea of how dedicated he is to changing his eating habits and lifestyle. Sometimes that's all kids need is to eat right and exercise. Whatever decision he makes is going to be a lot of work and I wish him great success...and you too as you direct him through this.
