belladona replied to O2BSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmmm lets see. Im 5 weeks out i have my shakes I eat eggwhite omlettes with mozz, I have grilled chicken breast still poulverize my broccoli like into mashed potatoes or cauliflower I dont know why Im afraid to try it plain steamed with olive oil and salt , but something about the shape ant texture maybe? had a tiny piece of swordfish had a sliver of watermelon but it tasted so sweet to me , I really wasnt liking it. I had a meatballs, tender pork , steak , peanut butter ,crackers with rice flour and guacamole ,also turkey breast coldcut boars head with mayo and alot of decent calorie cheeses nothing over 7 grams of fat per serving. feta, mozz ect. so besides bread I basically eat everything. The only problem I had was day 2 in hospital I couldnt get down pureed food till they shot my iv with anti nausea meds from that point unfortunatelly I can eat everything! which means alot more mental work for me cause I know I can eat. I still shoot for 600 calories a day right now cause I can . We shall see how it goes. Dont be afraid to try things you will be ok. good luck to you, hope this helps. I can get away with it and Im afraid to eat sweets yeay kudos for me thats one good thing going for me. -
Depressed And Desperate For An Answer.
KarissaKhaos posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I am 8 weeks post-op. Absolutely everything I eat causes discomfort and makes me feel like I never want to eat again. It basically feels like nothing wants to go down no matter how moist it is. Everything sits right above the opening to my sleeve even if it's a tiny bite of applesauce. This feeling isn't limited to regular food, it happens with EVERYTHING except for fluids. I can drink a 32oz water in an hour without any discomfort or consequences. And when the food finally drops into ny sleeve, a strong ache pulses through my esophagus and the area below my sternum. For about a half hour after I eat, the food goes up and down ny throat until it finally goes away, not far up enough to feel nauseous or come out of my mouth but enough to annoy me and cause discomfort. I'm beginning to wish I never did this, I can't eat anything and when I do its literally ONE bite and even with one bite it hurts. I don't know what to do anymore, I don't feel like a normal person. Granted I love that I have lost 46lbs and feel great but I have to eat every 2 or 3 hours and I DREAD swallowing anything. Any advice? Am I alone on this? -

Turned away for cheating
honk replied to lashonda23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since you have lost weight probably not. I would however go to Youtube and watch real surgeries so you understand why you need to follow the post op diet requirements. They are not so much about loosing weight but healing your stomach. I would say staying on the post op diet is even more important than the preop diet. You can not "cheat" on the post op diet because it can cause you serious damage. I even read a post on here once that someone like 2 weeks after surgery ate two (yes) 2 Big Macs. -

Week 2, and am I drinking too much too fast?
morgan53 replied to liguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same way my first two weeks but i fought thru it and would drink my water which helped. I do measure faithfully each day even if I want more than then the 1.5 ounces of chicken. you will feel that full feeling once you get to purée stage like everyone . be sure to measure everyday that is important...it has been 6 weeks and I am down 40lbs. It is exciting watching all the pounds dropping off! -
A little discouraged...
LundyLane replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I just did it all: 1. Seminar 2. Appointment with the Lapband Doctor 3. Appointment with a Dietitian 4. Appointment with the Psychologist 5. Appointment with my Family Doctor to get a form filled out that the Lapband doctor requested. Had to do all of this before they would submit it to my insurance then I was told that insurance has up to 30 days to responsed 6. Dr. Teel said I will see him one more time after I get the approval before surgery 7. Then from what the Dietitian said I will have to go to another food class after approved. 8. Pretesting at the hospital a week before surgery Good Luck! Submited to insurance last Wednesday.................... -
Waiting for surgery to be scheduled
carlagovier replied to carlagovier's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for the feedback, I guess I am worried about all of the changes, did you have any problems with the pre-op diet, or the post-op frist four weeks, also do you have problems with excess skin. Thanks for any info you can offer:tongue2: -
I agree- you may be doing too much too soon. I would stick to walking for another couple weeks. You could call your doc.s office and see what they reccomend.

I do weigh daily but only record my weight once a week. I sometimess find that if we have done really well eating and exercising for a few days u sort of get a delayed reaction on the scales, not always, and if u have eaten too much it might not show up for a day or two, just one of the mysteries of life i think

Sleeve Forum is wrong about the band
Instyle98 replied to Creekwood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interesting! Yesterday when I went for my second fill, I mentioned this forum to the person who did my fill. She told me that she had been banded for 5 years and in the beginning had come here to check it out and she didn't stay because she said it seemed as if there were a lot of angry people here. Sometimes it certainly seems like that, but I have found a lot of very friendly helpful folks who seem to have their heads in the right place. I think some people are naysayers regardless of what the subject matter is or just like to think they no better than everyone else. The band is not for some people, just like gastric bypass or the sleeve is not for everyone. I think it also depends on where you are at emotionally in your life. I know someone (she's gone from a very close friend to frienemy) who had gastric bypass several years ago and any time an overweight person is having issues in their life (not necessarily weight) or not her response is always, "Why don't you go get weight loss surgery?" She likes to think she knows everything about everything and if everyone listened to her they wouldn't have any problems. Her first question to me after my surgery (I wasn't even a week out) was, "So...have you thrown up yet?" When I asked her why would I do that she responded with some explanation of how she just has to push the limit if she is told she shouldn't do something. Crazy huh? I didn't even bother to explain the differences in her surgery compared to mine. It seemed like a waste of my energy. I'm sure you're wondering how she did with her weight loss - she did good for awhile, but has never been thin and is still considerably overweight. She considers her surgery a success. She's one of the biggest reasons why I decided to try the Lap Band since it was done as an outpatient, is reversible, less costly and doesn't involve re-routing my innards. While the recovery was easier in many ways, the daily living part is a little more difficult since she seems to be less restricted when it comes to what she can eat and of course the weight loss is slower. I don't even know why I posted this! LOL! But I don't really talk to anyone else about my WLS. I have not made it public - except here. I asked her not to tell anyone, but knowing her, someone else out there knows. -
I average 3.5 a week and was told that was way above the expected. Like hatheryomw my surgeon said 1-2 a week. I'm slowing down as I get closer to 6 months so my average may adjust.

Congrats on your progress, my surgery date was 07/28 and I have hit a serious stall, no weight loss in 3 weeks and I am starting to wonder what am I doing wrong. You look amazing, got any good tips on how you are so successful? -
There are a ton of different options for Vitamins out there. I know for me the gummies seem to work okay and I was on them from week one on. I think the first 90/120 days I was taking half of the recommended dosage (1 gummy per day instead of 2). Now I take anywhere from 1 normal dosage up to 2 ( 2 gummies in the am and then 2 in the pm). I have gone back and forth between Men's One a Day, and Vita fusion Men's complete Multivitamin gummies. The Vita Fusion's tend to taste a bit more sweeter to me, which is due I think to the fact that they have a sugary coating on them. They are also my emergency go to vitamins whenever I forget to take my One A Days. I initially was looking at the brands that my surgeon carries in his office, but decided against them when it just came down to cost.

You haven't done anything wrong. I stopped losing after day 8 and then after a week I lost 2 pounds. Try to weigh yourself around the same time and just once a week. remember you weigh more in the afternoon than in the morning. Just keep concentrating on getting in your fluids and then as much protein as you can (at this stage i wasn't able to get in a lot).

Where are the diabetic type 1's
Teachamy replied to Healthy_life2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, the body reacts to stress by releasing hormones that counteract the effects of insulin. It's normal, but different for all of us. I was high for a week or so immediately after surgery, then it was like I was hit with a bomb. Low blood sugars all over the place. Be aware that if you are always taking 7 units of novalog, regardless of carb intake, that will need to change because you won't be eating many carbs. (No bread, Pasta, rice, starchy veggies, crackers, etc.) I do occasionally have a high. the last time was due to a pump malfunction. Yuck. Otherwise, if it peaks after dinner/bedtime snack, I know it will plummet over night. (And it does!) -
Caffiene/alcohol questions
weho replied to lessofme2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I quit both a week before my surgery as I only had to do a one week pre op diet. But if you are a big caffeine drinker you might want to start weaning yourself a little sooner; just my opinion. Good luck to you! -
I am almost 3 weeks out from surgery. This morning I started developing a rash. It started on my arms, by this afternoon my legs and back are covered too. Then I started getting a headache, and I'm feeling very nauseous. I took my temperature and I have a low grade fever (99.9) I don't know if this is even anything tied to the surgery or if I just have some sort of bug. I don't want to take benedryl because I don't think I would be able to keep it down. Should I call my doc, or wait a day or two?

The Moment of Truth--and good news!!
dave601 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, it's been a while since I posted (I've been posting on the weight specific boards), and my surgery is tomorrow May 24th @ 8:30. I am on the last day of my pre-op diet...it's been rough! Well, as I said before, I weighed 619 when I went in for my consult about a month ago. Because of the pre-op diet, I'm down to 561. I can't believe I dropped 58 lbs in 3 weeks!! Tomorrow morning is my surgery, so I would appreciate any of you saying a prayer for me. Thanks in advance! Dave -
High bmi with no co-morbidities insurance approval?
Harsha replied to leliwhoaoh's topic in Insurance & Financing
Hey... I had the same exact worry! Besides being overweight, I'm 100% "healthy". I just got my approval yesterday!! My insurance bases it on either 40 + BMI OR less than 40 BMI but have to have I believe three Comorbities. -
High bmi with no co-morbidities insurance approval?
peaceout replied to leliwhoaoh's topic in Insurance & Financing
I had the same fears, even though my surgeon's office kept assuring me that we didn't have to go looking for any co-morbidities if my BMI was over 40. The one thing I will say, is be careful during the 6-month program and the 1-2 week pre-op diet. My surgeon did warn me that if my BMI dropped below 40 on the morning of surgery, technically my approval could be reversed. I have no idea how true that is, but I can't imagine he'd go out of his way to shorten my liver-shrinking diet just to make sure I stayed above 40 if it wasn't a real concern he had. -
How did you feel a week after surgery?
blizair09 replied to HRHMKB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a follow-up appointment with my NP one week post-op. I remember feeling pretty good that day. My parents had been with my partner and me since the day before the surgery and they headed home that afternoon. The next day, I began my walking routines (outside of walking up and down the hallway in my building) and started going to the spa every day. I was still a little sore, VERY TIRED all of the time, and already pretty much over liquids, but I knew that had another 5 weeks off from work to devote to my recovery so I embraced it! -
Turned away for cheating
WrenBird replied to lashonda23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Um... A doctor can see if their liver hasn't shrunk enough. People get turned away all the time because they can't opperate because of that. Read this thread and a majority of people know that. Optifast makes your liver shrink and if you follow the diet correctly you can't help but lose weight because you lose weight from your liver. Unless you've had some strange allergic reaction to something in Optifast, that makes you put on weight from non-existant calories and your liver then retains Water from it, I find it all very hard to believe. Maybe you need to exercise more. I don'tt hink you should put down Optifast when it helps a lot of people before surgery shrink their livers and make it easier to opperate. Telling them that a pre-op diet isn't important is ignorant and I think you're only doing this to disagree with me, once again. I also find it hard to believe that you'd stick to a very hard to follow diet for a month when you're not losing any weight. This gives me reason to believe that you've never been on Optifast and you continuously state that you have to prove me wrong from a disagreement we had 3 weeks ago. Optifast isn't just a 'diet', it's used to shrink your liver before surgery. That's why people go on those diets before surgery. Get over it. We have different opinions. You shouldn't lie in order to convince people you know what you're talking about. I also think you shouldn't lie about your weight loss in your signature - it's a little off putting to be honest. -
I too had pain after surgery but it was gone by day 4. The gas is the worst thing and walking it off is the key. Obviously no one can make the final decision but you but I am so happy with the sleeve/surgery. It is the best thing I have EVER done for myself. 9 weeks out and 52lbs down, able to move, bend over without strain, started running on treadmill and workout 4-5 days a week. I feel incredibly good now and can't really remember the pain after surgery...kinda like forgetting the pain from having a baby Good luck to you on whatever you decide.
