Do you eat Yogurt? What brand? What sort of toppings do you add to it?
HDBC replied to scarletwitch19's topic in Food and Nutrition
Kroger carries a brand of yogurt called CarbMaster, that comes in a variety of flavors and only has 3 or 4 carbs. -
I'd be sick of the taste too. What kind of Protein shakes are you doing - the prepackaged ones? Have you yet tried the kind you make in your blender with diet milk, fruit, yogurt, and Protein powder? Those are super and taste more like real smoothies.

Roll call all who had surgery JUNE 2015
seesuzyshrink replied to JosieAppleHead's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Things you can do with PB2 that I have tried are: PB2 with Polaner All Fruit, PB2 with sliced apple, PB2 in a smoothie with banana Greek yogurt and almond milk, and PB2 on celery. Yummy! -
Gloria, I had these plateau's a few times in my first year. I would think the weight loss must be over now. Then a couple weeks later I would jump down 5 lbs or more. I wouldn't worry about it at all. As long as you are eating like you know you need to, and not eating between meals, eating junk food, etc. you will lose the weight. As far as Protein, I had a lot of foods that I couldn't tolerate at first. Now I can tolerate much more with no problems. The thing about meat and egg protein, it is more solid and it sits in the pouch longer. Something like yogurt or liquids run right thru and the fullness feeling tells the brain we are DONE eating comes from that pouch being full. Not stuffed, but we still feel stuffed easily. Even now, I find if I am eating solid protein I get full so much faster and stay full longer than when I eat softer foods that are easier to eat. I have had problems with many veggies, especially fresh uncooked ones like brocolli in a salad. I talked to my dietician about that and she said that eating 2 little brocolli "trees" is plenty. I think it has taken a long time to adjust my head to my stomach size. I don't really like most meats but I sure lost alot of weight when I ate them...But you can't eat something you get sick from. Are you really sick or is it more just uncomfortable because you are trying to eat too much of it??? I am out over 2 years now and I still can't finish one regular hamburger. About 3/4 is all I can eat.I will eat one half a bun or I can't eat half. Over time more foods will work easier. Basically it is true that protein first, then some veggie and fruit, and last if you have room, a whole grain carb. Good luck!!!!! You are in the best time of your surgery that first year. It will come off. Tracy

@@justme29 yum yum they are so delicious you are still pre-op right?? @@VSGAnn2014 buys the pre-made in the plastic bottles me too!!! much easier, able to immediately drink more expensive than the powder i figure i'm worth it you are too i drink the swiss chocolate luv, luv, luv it i forgot "they" will give those teeny samples for taste think i'm gonna try that @@Inner Surfer Girl said "Be extremely careful with fruit juices due to the high sugar content." totally true I kindof cringed/gasped when i saw you were adding powder to orange juice STOP IT!!! people have been shot for less you sound very prepared for post op plenty of pureed stocked in freezer way to go keep up the good work with your preperations where were you 3.5 years ago i could have used your expertise can't wait to meet you in sleeveland good luck kathy Yes, glad she told me before I got extremely stuck to that mix. But I'm thinking if I check out the other flavor, I should be fine. My doctor's office has me on all the Vitamins I will take later as well. So, they want to see if people are able to comply with the eating habits we're promising. When I got the new Ninja, I got a little excited. I have some fruit and yogurt smoothies but I know with that, I can't have those right away. I did the puree applesauce in bananas, veggies in broth etc. I was kinda going puree overboard for a couple weeks. For me, I can not tolerate milk so it's not an option to go pre-made. Because I have several shaker bottles now, It's not very much work for me. I even took the applesauce and banana puree with unflavored protein in one of those. It worked fine. It's a very different way of eating. But I am trying to figure it out. When I make a commitment, I like to stick with it. For now, I'm trying to figure out which Proteins will get overstocked! And I know the Isopure Zero Carb Apple Melon will be fully stocked for 2 week liquid diet! I have also finally given in to getting an elliptical, but I'll be starting out with the Les Mills Combat DVD before moving forward. I was given a list of things to do, one was join an excercise program, with my work commute, this will be about as good as I can get to one. I'll let you know how it goes! -
A nutritionist never came to see me before I left either. I did have some yogurt but no one ever told me how much to have a one time either! I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing!

Still weigh more than surgery day!

I was bloated for over a week. Do measure as the others have said because I too remember being able to eat more than I should a couple of times and I ended up with the slimeys! I was permitted to have greek yogurt thinned out at 2 weeks I think -
I had RNY on June 4. I am sure I could try potato chips but it is a trigger food for me so I don't even want to try. In the way of crunchy, the only thing I have had since surgery is 1 pork rind and 2 crackers. While they both went down OK, I am having enough trouble with getting in protein from real food (especially meats) that I don't really have space to get in chips or other carbs. Solid foods are still giving me a but of trouble so I am sticking with soft/pureed foods for a while longer. I can generally eat anywhere from 1/8 cup (2 tablespoons) to 1/3 cup (just over 5 tablespoons) at any one time. Really depends in what it is. With something thin like soup or yogurt I can get in a bit more but I only portion out no more than 1/2 cup and stop eating at 20 to 30 minutes even if not full so I don't overeat.

Please tell me what you are/were consuming 16 days or so after surgery…I am hungry, I have a plain yogurt mixed with a blended fruit one, a Protein shake or 2 a Soup or 2 probably 6-800 calories but hungry all the time and I feel like I am having too much. I have lost about 13-16 pounds since surgery day and feel the scale is not moving. WED will be 3 weeks since surgery.

Although not as good a protein source as Greek yogurt I also like carbmaster! -
When you are approved for things like fruit, maybe berries or other high-fiber, low carb fruit. However, my advice would be to limit or avoid fruit, especially in smoothies. It's just an efficient way to pump more sugar, calories, and carbs into your body, and running it through the blender even destroys a lot of the fiber, which would be one of the few benefits to eating fruit. I wasn't allowed any fruit until two months after surgery, and even then, whatever I ate had to fit within my daily carb limits (no more than 60 total carbs per day). I preferred to "spend" my carbs on items that are high in protein like beans and yogurt.

I popped a couple Bariatric Advantage Essential Multi's this morning after my Breakfast of plain Greek yogurt. First time taking them post-op. It wasn't a minute before the nausea started, then I was running to the toilet. I "heaved" for a few minutes but nothing came up, which I thought was weird. I think I'm okay now. Wtf? If there's one thing in the world I hate it's nausea and especially vomiting. I doubt I'll have the courage to try that Vitamin again. But I don't have any others...

Three months out and yogurt isn't allowed until six months out on my instructions. Wish I could have it but am willing to wait. -

Measure, measure, measure. You really need to stick to about 1/4 cup right now. I am almost 8 weeks out and still only eat 1/4 cup of yogurt every morning. -
Still weigh more than surgery day!
Bufflehead replied to valcatlett4's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If the scale is bothering you, stay off it. It's completely normal to still be bloated up with all those surgery fluids for up to a week - 10 days. The nerves in your stomach were cut and they are still healing. They cannot reliably tell you whether or not you are full. That runny nose you got is a signal that you overate. This is why it is so important to measure out a small portion and stick to that, and not wait for a physical "full" feeling (which is a bad cue to wait for anyway -- you want "satisfied," not "full,"). IMO there is no reason to eat a full carton of yogurt. Did your plan come with guidelines as to how much to eat for each meal? Mine didn't allow more than 3 tablespoons of food per meal when I was limited to things like yogurt. In any event, measure your portions, keep them small, and you will do great. Good luck! -
I am 5 days post op and I still weigh more than the day of surgery. I have had no trouble getting my fluids or protein in. I have had minimal pain and feel pretty good. I can not tell if I am full. I've had a full carton of yogurt that ended with a runny nose but I did not feel full. Help !!

I love the EAS Advantage low carb protein drinks! I eat a lot of roasted chicken and grilled shrimp. I also eat a lot of greek yogurt. I love Colby Jack Cheese cut into squares. I can eat 3-4 squares of that with 2 or 3 ritz crackers. I find that with most of my meals I am really focused on the protein part. I don't mind having a little potato salad, etc on the side because I am good about eating my protein first and then maybe one or two small bites of a side.

Hello everyone, I'm a month post op and I could drink one whole protein shake in less than ten minutes. I also get this hungry feeling maybe 2 hours after I had lunch. I usually have low fat greek yogurt. Should I be feeling hungry. I have read other don't get hungry or forget to eat sometimes. Has anyone been through this like me.
-
I usually eat yogurt or cottage cheese. Sometimes I'll throw a few blueberries on the cottage cheese (like maybe 10 of them)
-
I was also sleeved on 7/17. The first 3 or 4 days were very difficult, but it has gotten better each day. I now have no problem taking in 64+ oz of fluids and 64g of Protein, including lots of yogurt meals.. I'm pretty much back to normal. Just waiting for the day I can once again eat real food, just in much smaller portions.

Cheated on liquid diet

I am on day 2 and I keep getting this heartburn and indigestion. I am eating yogurt and protein shakes and broth as part of my diet. I don't know what could be causing it. -
Post-Op Panic - They Can Reattach It, Right?
BarrySue replied to LemonMarie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your ability to tolerate liquids will increase. If Protein shakes are giving you trouble, check with your doctor for other options (For a couple days I refused to eat anything because I HATED the shakes). He switched me to greek yogurts and a special low carb/high protein milk to replace the shakes, and I felt better. Don't be afraid to collaborate with your doctor to find a successful plan for you (just make sure it's with your doc, not solely with random internet posters). Also, breathe. It gets better, I promise. -
I did awful on every Protein shake/powder I ever tried (to the point where I preferred not to eat at all), so now I live on a carefully cobbled-together diet of random things: Frozen greek yogurt bar in the morning (low cal, low carb, 7g protein, I need something sweet in the AM) Fairlife skim milk (LOVE this! Ultra-filtered high protein, high Calcium, low carb/low cal milk) Sugarfree strawberry syrup or diet cocoa mix for my Fairlife milk Low fat string cheese (7g protein, nice little snack!) Couple tablespoons of cottage cheese with a tiny bit of tomato Soup on it (tastes like lasagna ricotta!) I use the opurity bariatric Vitamin (vitamin made specifically for sleeve patients) so that I only have one supplement a day to take. Originally, I was supposed to take calcium as well, but the Fairlife milk has so much in it that my doc gave me the go-ahead to hold off on it and do a bloodwork check next month to see if I can go without it. Honestly, I didn't buy special blenders, plates, etc. Sometimes I feel like we try to hype ourselves up through unnecessary purchases, lol. I keep it simple and try to stick to food prep/diet that I can sustain. It's a marathon, not a race.

So today is my first day on puréed! I am wondering if I should have a protein shake later for an"snack" as I have not really gotten my protein in today...for breakfast I had a little less than 1/4 cup cream of wheat made with milk and sprinkled with protein powder, lunch 1/4 cup-probably less of cottage cheese and 3 raspberries. Dinner I had made chili and picked out the beans and small meat and sprinkled a tiny amount of cheese-I measured out 1/4 c and ate maybe half and then measured out 1/4 c Greek yogurt that I added a little scoop of protein powder too but could only get in about three bites before being full. My sleeve seems to be very restrictive as I am never really hungry and can't get much in...not sure what to do??

Flavored Yogurt During Full Liquids Period
BarrySue replied to JohnT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On my doc's nutrition guide, he wanted all protein shakes. But when I had bloating/nausea with them, he said greek yogurt was okay. Generally, carbs should be under a set amount for a day, but realistically, it is okay to have a few if it helps you meet your protein goals. Eventually, you will have to integrate healthy carbs back into your diet, so I wouldn't get this rabid NO CARBS EVER mantra stuck in your head. I value learning to have a healthy relationship with food over religiously sticking to a diet that might not be working for me.
