    Tofu & shiritaki noodles?

Can and when can I eat them? Is that a vegetable or a Protein? I'm 3 weeks post op. Just trying to be creative with meals. I'm not a vegetarian, I like variety. Thanks Amanda

At 8 Weeks What Were You Eating?

I am 11 weeks and I was cleared for all foods at 5 week. So far the only thing that hasn't sat well with me is egg salad. All other forms of eggs are fine though, go figure. I just make smart choices, but it is nice to be able to eat anything. Salads are finally easier and I love the unwich from Jimmy Johns. No bread, they wrap the meat and cheese in lettuce. Very good and good for you when you're on the run.

    Mudruns and Crossfit

Hey everyone, My wife is three months post surgery and she's doing phenomenal. I've just scheduled my initial consult with the surgeon, so I'm very early in the process here. I did have some questions/concerns that I'd love some input on. I currently enjoy obstacle races such as Spartan and Tough Mudder. I also do Crossfit 3-4x per week. Post surgery, will I be able to fuel and hydrate myself to handle a 16-mile race on a mountain? I worry with the smaller stomach size, I won't be able to take in enough calories to function, or enough water to keep hydrated. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks! Ray

    1st post-op

Hi Becky, 23lbs!!! That is wonderful. How long has it been since your surgery, I don't recall if you mentioned that already. Since you are still on full fluids, it must have only been 3-4 weeks ago, right? I am glad you are doing so well. I like hearing about your progress, so please keep us informed. Thanks,
  6. I am looking to be sleeved in MX the 2nd week of July. I'm looking at July 11th or 12th, and I should be confirmed soon! I can't wait. I've told a few people, including family members, and everyone is very supportive of this major life decision. My husband is particularly supportive and will be joining me in MX for the surgery! Anyone else being sleeved around July 11th-12th? I'm currently around 230lbs (down from 247 in Jan 2013), and I'm 5'4.

    Potty Talk

In addition to lactose, you may have an issue with artificial sweeteners. Although I used them pre-op, after the surgery I ate a lot more (popsicles, Jello, Protein drinks) and I think that contributed to my "potty" issues. After I eliminated most artificial sweeteners and lactose, I was down to 2-3 poos per day. To get rid of most of the sweeteners, I switched to the unjury chicken Soup Protein powder and drank Water and unsweetened tea. Lynda

1st day of the Liquid Diet...

Jamie! We are on the same schedule. July 21st at 7:30 for me. Lucky me, I get a high protein/low carb diet. Started 7/1. So far, lost 7 pounds. Sounds weird, I have been eating meat and cheese and spinach all week. I feel like a salt lick. Best wishes to you!
  9. Ive been through the first week of my low carb high protein diet. Im drinking the isopure and i can only eat yogurt, sf pudding and jello and unsweetened applesauce. My surgery date is July 16. its tough this first week has been very challenging for me, but i just keep thinking of how this will benefit me in the end and it keeps me motivated. good luck with everything!
  10. Ok so for the past 3 days I still haven't been able to get one full meal down due to what I assume is horrible gas pain. I was banded on 12/13. I've been up walking around being active. It takes a good 3-4 hours before it subsides then I finally get hungry again and try all over. I once again get about 1/4-1/2 cup of protein shake drank before that feeling comes back again. I can't even get down water afterwards. I don't want to get dehydrated and I know I need my nutrients as well but I'm at a loss. What am I doing wrong? Please help!!!

    Taking off a week....

actually might be really helpful. a break every once in a while is a good thing for your routine. don't feel guilty at all. 5 days a week is awesome.
  12. Again like everyone said-who knows what they want. I lost 5 pounds and gained that five pounds back in the 3 months that I went to the doctor. Also, stick with it. You are young and do not want this weight to cause more problems with your health. I was just approved and I can't wait. I am infertile and can't have children due to my weight. So, go through the end of the diet and then go for the approval. Good Luck!!

    Intimacy

As long as there's now swinging from the chandeliers, I think 2 weeks should be a long enough wait. Take it easy and no hand stands for at least a month.
  16. Before I go in, has anyone ever gotten results for something over the phone? I am usually told to come in for results because its against HIPPA* policy, okay I get that, but yet in the past I have either gotten a letter and at least one time been told over the phone. Anywho.. My surgeons assistant was suppose to call me today to let me know if my H Pylori was cleared or not. She reassured me that she would, but I decided to call and see since I hadnt heard. Well, she left for the day the time I called (earlier than her normal leave time.) My surgery is scheduled for the 30th. My PCP new of my H pylori since June, but didnt give me anything to treat it. She made it seem like it wasn't a big deal. She only decided to treat it after I questioned her to make sure everything was right on my 6th and final visit with her earlier this month. Honestly, I think she went to ask someone if it should be treated (she's a resident.) So I give the paper work to my surgeons administrative assistant on the 5th. She calls me days later to tell me that with the positive H pylori she cant put in my paperwork and I have to wait until I took the meds, retest and come back with a negative H.Pylori result. I sent in the sample earlier this week. I called the lab today, the results are there but they wont disclose to me, so I have to wait until Monday or have to go in. So I'm steamed because if I have to push my surgery back, not only will I have to wait until winter session to return to school, but the plans I had for the upcoming week are in limbo which includes my liquid diet (to lose 5 lbs my surgeon NOW tells me I should lose,) and travel plans. Nothing I can do really, but it does suck when you're patient with staff at the hospital and you wait, but realize in cases like this you have to take life by the balls. If it wasn't for the surgeon I would be having surgery at a different hospital.

    ugh!! Quitting Smoking!!!

I quit smoking in preparation for surgery, and have been quit for two months now. My surgery will be sometime around the end of May or in June, so I will have 3 months cigarette-free by that point. I did it cold turkey. I've tried a number of other times, but every time I thought I could have "just one" I fell off the wagon. Now I realize the secret to staying quit (for me) is to avoid thinking I can have "just one." I still think about smoking from time to time, but it's not automatic like it used to be. I plan to remain smoke free, God willing.

    Iron question

It's not hard to get 60 grams a day if you eat each meal and snack. I'm not going to lie. I don't always get all my Protein but getting all my fluids is a bigger problem for me. A sample of my menu is as follows: Breakfast: 4 oz low fat cottage cheese-------13 grams of protein 1 Dole pineapple fruit cup Snack 8oz skim milk-------8 grams of protein lunch Kashi pizza 1/3---------15 grams of protein Snack Strawberries dinner 6oz Talapia--------32 grams of protein---no way I can finish it 1/4 C Kashi Pilaf----7 grams any mushy veggie Dessert something chocolate like fudgesicle or pudding Other option I like are Kashi frozen dinners, shrimp, flatout bread with cream cheese or refried Beans

    Pissed!

You've lost .57 lbs a day average which is great! Stalls happen (for me a lot) and they suck but your skin & stuff is adjusting during that and as long as you are drinking water and eating mostly protein you will lose. I started at 310 the first week of May, 285 on surgery day 5/25, and this morning was 188.6. 8 full months, 121.4 down.
  20. I weigh 1x a month at my dr visit.the rest of the month I let my clothes weigh me,they are more accurate then the scale and I haven't seen a stall yet!dont be a slave to the scale,it puts you on a roller coaster ,not good.i figure when I get to goal I will weigh weekly.
  21. @@Stevehud - I weight everyday, as well. I went for my first 2 1/2 weeks losing a pound a day. Then the "dreaded stall". I stalled for 4 days straight. UGH!!! I didn't get upset, other that I couldn't say that I've lost a pound a day anymore! With the sleeve, you KNOW it's not gonna just stop! You WILL loose it, probably a couple! Guys are so lucky! Good luck on your journey!!!
  22. I agree 100%. I noticed the same thing with a few other products especially cold medicine. I'm a coupon clipping, frugal, very thrifty shopper so saving $3-$4 bucks in my mind is a gallon of gas in my vehicle, right? I have "tested" the generic theory on several things, and for those items that the generic just didn't add up (Mucinex, and Nyquil) are 2 that come up in my mind, I'll clip a coupon to save the cash vs. going generic.

    New here

Just continue following the instructions your bariatric team gave you and it will happen. My hair loss started at about 5 months and continued for about 3 months. Luckily, I had a lot of hair to start with.

    Today I have realized...

This thread is exactly what I’m looking for. I’ve always battled depression with appropriate treatments, but this is a new level I haven’t experienced. I think what is so bad is the weakness/fatigue I have daily even with getting in vitamins and short walk around the house. But, I’m also struggling with the soft food stage. I’ve only been able to tolerate cottage cheese and a super tiny amount of wet ground beef with cheese. Everything else comes up even if I chew to apple sauce consistency. (I can tolerate apple sauce though). :/. I’m 5 weeks post GS and would appreciate hearing similar stories and/or encouragement.
  25. Go on vacation 2 weeks after getting the VSG? I'm planning to go to Hawaii 2 weeks after surgery for my friend's wedding. It's a 15+hr flight duration from the East Coast! Any survival tips? How did you feel 2 weeks after surgery?
