    Weight loss

most people have their first major stall within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery. It's USUALLY the third week, but not always. Mine was weeks 2 & 3. Just keep following your plan and stay off the scale - maybe just weigh yourself once a week until the stall breaks - and it WILL break if you stick to your plan. Mine broke during week 4 and I dropped like 6 or 8 lbs within a couple of days.

This is normal. Google the science behind the 3 week stall. It’s the same concept. You had your 2 week diet before surgery (usually) and then you lost a LOT of weight that first week. Your body is balancing out fluids and it will kick back into gear after however many days it takes. Stick to the plan. Don’t cheat. You’re going to see it drop soon. Promise

    Weight loss

I am 2 weeks post op. I lost 12 lbs the first week and only 1 pound the second week. Is this normal? Should I be losing more weight? I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. Hi guys. I’m Vivian new to the app and was shocked when I found this thread. I am scheduled for VSG on April 19th!! I’m pretty much set just trying to prepare myself mentally for this journey. I’m a ball of emotions (excited, nervous, etc…) I start my liquid diet 2 days prior to surgery, my BMI is 35.7 with 2 health conditions. Anyone else scheduled the same week as me?

Have you been having pain since your surgery or is this a recent development? It could be that your stomach is still healing and needs more TLC before it can handle the foods youre throwing at it. Maybe try going back to soft foods or even pureed for a week or so. Also, you could be swallowing too big of pieces. Try slowing down and really chewing your food to that applesauce consistancy.

    7 weeks post op

Hello! Congratulations on your fat loss. I'm 9 weeks out and a little hungry right now. That's ok. Nothing to worry about. If you're eating fewer calories than you're burning, which is almost certainly the cash, you're losing fat every second of the day. Don't worry about the scale - you want to lose fat, not weight, and the scale doesn't measure that.

    7 weeks post op

I had a gastric bypass about 7 weeks ago and while I am down 43 pounds so far I am a bit concerned. I have had a hunger feeling since the day after surgery, I was able to drink without issue post surgery. As my diet progressed I found I was able to tolerate all foods fine and eat and drink as I did prior to surgery without any of the signs and signals others had warned me about such as the foamies, the urge to vomit, nausea, clear full feeling etc. I force myself to stop eating at around 6 ounces of food but I do not feel satisfied after. Also I have found that I am craving sweets which I never really ate pre surgery. And as of this last week the scale stopped going down and I gained back 2.5 pounds while my diet and exercise have remained the same. I am feeling a bit discouraged that something is wrong with me or my surgery.

How are you feeling? Nervous ? Excited ? Has your Dr. Given you your pre and post op diet instructions yet ? I am interested if they differ from my own. Pre Op 1 week liquid diet Post Op 1 week clear liquids 2 week clear liquids only adding protein shakes if tolerated week 3-6 very soft diet week 7 ease into regular textures
  10. They are averages and unfortunately like the rny, band, vsg... Etc. stalls are common for all of us. It depends on so many factors, like some people are not committed and will live on slider foods and their are others who follow their plan, and some in between who are able to find a good balance. From my understanding, it is your starting weight from your most recent surgery that you go by for calculations (not your sleeve surgery). For me, since my revision to RNY (for gerd) in 8/21, it's been faster weight loss. I weigh less than at my lowest with the sleeve and am still losing despite hitting initial goal awhile ago. I find logging my calories, carbs and protein extremely helpful to look for patterns to adjust, to help awareness, especially during emotionally difficult times.

Wow! Excellent job! Kudos to you! I bought the Gatorade zero w protein. I think they have 10gms each so I will definitely drink a lot of those when it’s my time next week. What I’m really nervous about it I will still have to shop and cook for my kids so that will be rough. I sat them down and explained my diet and I may be cranky, etc and they understand but cooking meals when I can’t eat will be a challenge.

I'm on day 11 of my 2 week liquid diet. The first week was the absolute worst. After the second week or so, it started to get easier. I think my body started to get accustomed to having less calories. The trick for me has been to have something to eat (drink) regularly throughout the day, like every hour or two. When it gets really hard I've been relying on the sugar free ice pops. They give me a little bit of sweet and I really enjoy them. In the evenings I've been making broth out of half a cube of bullion (only half since there is so much salt in those) A huge helper has been the Gatorade Zero. That is enjoyable and does a good job of making me feel full. I haven't cheated because I don't want to ruin the progress I've made so far. It would probably be like starting all over. I've lost 12 pounds since I started so far and I still have another 3-4 days. My surgery is on Monday. Almost there now. You can do it, stay strong and when you are feeling hungry, don't ignore it. Have the next item you are allowed for the day.

Cranky is completely normal...so is wanting to eat your arm for the first 3-4 days. 😲 It's the sugar withdrawal, the lack of carbs, and it sucks. 😂🤣😂😆Try not to think about it. 🤣😂🤣😂➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️↩️ ➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️WORST ADVICE EVER!!!!!⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️ It's a kind of 'take it an hour at a time or even 15 minutes at a time. The negative crap will pass - soon as the withdrawal is finished. You can do this! (THAT'S pretty worthless, too....I know!)

I am 9 weeks p/o and experiencing this as well. It feels like the hunger pain you feels after not eating all day but I have eaten. Any ideas?

I’m cranky just thinking about it I start the diet next week. I really don’t know what else to say besides just keep your eye on the prize! And I think feeling cranky is quite normal

Interesting!! I am 3 weeks post op and I had hives on my wrist and hand this week. I'm not sure what caused it or why - and thankfully they went away. But what a curious question !

I’m 2 weeks PO sleeve and I’ve had hives for a week and a half. No spotting but very itchy. My mom had sleeve done 3 years ago and said she had the same thing. It could be left over anesthesia, food intolerance, or lack of water consumption!

BariNation is a paid community. Its equal parts forum/social media and education. They have several support groups each week tailed for different needs (pre-op, post-op, regain, men's & women's, etc.), monthly presentations from experts (dieticians, therapists, and so on), and they do live and virtual meet ups. Its much more comprehensive than just a forum and, because its paid, there are ZERO keyboard warriors/internet trolls and everyone in the community is invested.

I got my surgery postponed too and it really hurt. I am terrible at waiting, its been a problem all my life. The hospital had its Bariatric procedures reviewed and I had to wait a extra 5 weeks. What can you do ? Nothing but wait. It passed very slowly. I really feel for you. As every week passed I would torture myself by thinking - I could have been at this stage now ..... ! Have some meals out and take a ways and enjoy every mouthful.

Be grateful it’s only 7 days I would love that! Everyone in our practice has to do the same 2 week liquid diet regardless of starting weight. Good luck you are almost there!!

    Weight gain or standstill

Oh that's because in the hospital they fill you up with tons of water so you don't get dehydrated. Looks like they gave you plenty. It will slowly leave you in the next week or two. Just try and stay off the scales, I know its hard but it does help. You will feel on top of the world when the weight drops but you will get a stall soon too, be prepared. Put ' 3 week stall ' in the search box, it will save you some more worry and disappointment when it happens to you. Keep the faith, this works, it worked for all these others on this forum, you will be fine if you stick fairly close to your recommendations.
  23. Hello! I have had gastric sleeve surgery (2013) and brain surgery to remove a meningioma (8 weeks ago). At the time of bariatric surgery, I was taking lamictal for bipolar. I’m now taking it post-brain surgery for seizures. In other words, I had the same surgeries in the opposite order! You might ask your doctor or pharmacist about getting a short-term script for lamictal that dissolves on your tongue. That’s what my doc gave me back in 2013. I was glad for it because I find lamictal pills to be hard to swallow even on my best days. Good luck! If you did brain surgery, bariatric surgery will be a piece of cake (pun intended)!

    liquid diet :( lol

I have a friend who was sleeved in October. She didn’t do two week liquid diet, and she didn’t give up caffeine. She was 221 lbs at surgery. She has dropped 80 lbs as of today. Her entire procedure was uneventful and her recovery was easy and without incident.
