    RNY 12/21/2017

My Story I had RNY 12/21/17 starting weight 230 and Surgery weight 218. Lowest weight was in May 2017 at 173. I bounced between 173-175. Since then I’ve creeped up to 180. I’ve gotten off track. I don’t eat much in a sitting bc of the restriction. But I find nothing I eat affects me negatively (no dumping etc) so I will eat bread items and sugar and I have gotten back into the habit of drinking coke again. Even if it’s just to have a couple of sips. I need to buckle down and get back on track. My goal weight is 140. Anyone else in the same space as me?

    GOAL ACHIEVED!

Congratulations blizair09 on reaching your goal, and on dropping a staggering amount of weight in the process! You are an inspiration to us all, and a reminder that it is possible to achieve your goals, no matter how much you have to lose. Keep up the good work, and don't drop off. I know a lot of people tend to move on to bigger and brighter things once they reach goal, and weight loss ceases to become a big part of their lives. We want and need to hear from you veterans that have lost the weight, and kept it off. Your input is invaluable for us that are in the shoes that you once wore. Congratulations again!
  5. Hi - Just found this group. I had uterus removed prior to sleeve surgery (ovaries intact). I am in mid 50's and did well with sleeve surgery, but lost focus and had about 40 lbs. re-gain. It definitely improved my blood pressure. I am struggling with losing the re-gain .... I am on doctor supervised liquid diet & not having the success that the other re-gainers in my support group are having. I'm chalking it up to PCOS metabolism. I see the dietician in a couple weeks & hope to get some additional help/advice.
  6. I really feel for you @GradyCat on this one. My fear is the same so I got rid of my scale. Now I only weigh in at Dr. appointments. I have at least one appointment every couple months until next year, so I know I will be weighed each time. I think spacing out measurements is going to help me with my obsession over this. It was definitely becoming a problem and now getting rid of the scale feels like a weight off my shoulders, no pun intended...

    Energy Levels

Thanks, Judy. That's what I was thinking, but of course there is no way for anyone to know how your going to feel after the surgery. I would only assume that after losing weight the energy level would increase, but thought I would check. I'm hoping I will be successful in losing the weight I need to, but more importantly (and like you said) doing it slowly. I do not want to have the loose skin issue that many people have when the weight loss is too rapid. Keeping my fingers crossed!

    Energy Levels

Bill-I'm not sure if I truly have any sleep disorder, but I have thought of it. I have not seen anyone about this becuase I haven't seen any "signs". I am hopeful I am this way just because of the strain my additional 100 lbs. puts on, but I guess we'll just have to see. After I lose some major weight, if I still feel this way I will go to a sleep study. Thanks for the info.

    Energy Levels

YES it will...I was the same way. After you loose about 25 lbs. your energy level goes up. Plus it is a necessity to exercise. YOU HAVE TO! We all start out walking, then increase the intensity as you progress. Listen to spunky music that will keep you moving at a fast pace. Walk with a friend, do what ever it takes. The more you walk the better you feel and the easier it gets. After a while you look forward to it. I am at the Fittness center stage. I have a physcially demanding job, I'm on my feet all day, and walking, lifting, pulling etc. When I get off work I'm really tired. But I have to go to the fittness center because it's the ONLY time I have for exercise. Believe it or not, I feel BETTER after a work out. Monday Water aerobics, weight lifting, Tuesday treadmill and Zumba class (dance aerobics). Wednesday OFF, Thrusday light weight lifting, water aerobics, Friday 2 mile treadmill, Zumba class. Weekends off ! By the weekend your need a break from Work and Work outs. But It's working, I'm loosing inches, and weight slowly. But that is how I want to loose it, not fast, slowly and keep toned as much as I can. You can DO IT !!!
  10. You are quite welcome sofianoemi! And if you are of child-bearing age, just think of the healthy choices you will be instilling in your children! You are breaking a cycle! And BTW, veteran sleevers just don't eat to survive...we enjoy our food very much! Maybe even more now because it isn't so mindless and we don't deal with the guilt of overeating afterwards....in fact we enjoy everything more because food and weight are not on our minds constantly any more. Just think how you will be feeling by next summer! Keep us posted.

    P90X Anyone?

Anyone else doing P90X post-surgery? I am now in week 4 (had a VSG on June 17th so I started around 4 weeks post op) and liking the results. I did a few of the 90 days sessions 3 years go and had good results, but the weight came back on after i stopped. This time it's for good as well as building more muscle. Anyone want to join me?

    Central CT sleevers?

Hi - I live in Branford and work in Berlin, so could certainly connect with Cheshire and Waterbury easily. Had my sleeve surgery on August 13. Everything went really well -- no problems at all and loosing weight steadily, now that I am over a very long stall. Ellen

I Think I Am Eating Too Much

Wow thats amazing I am almost 23 weeks out and I still can only eat 1/2C. I understand the size of the new stomach is different with each surgeon. The hunger feeling can be from gas some of the others have mentioned gas feels like hunger so I got gasX and it helped squash that feeling. You really have a great weight loss already hope you have continued success.

Question about amount of weight loss

You could lose more or less than predicted by your surgeon. There are many factors other than initial BMI, including but not limited to: age (younger=greater loss), sex (male=greater loss), eating habits (junk food & grazing=lower loss, high odds of regaining), regular exercise (more=greater loss, less regain), and lipo/plastics after loss (yes=less regain). Of course, the above is a just general guide and there will always be exceptions to these rules. We've all read about that person who gets away with grazing on junk food and that person who 'does everything right' but doesn't lose much. Total weight loss and maintenance depend largely, not exclusively, on habits and choices after surgery. Accurately calculating exactly how much weight you will lose is impossible.

    A little down today

Hi Jodie I had the same problem at first - I even wished I had never had the surgery it was so bad at times. But, honesty, it does get better! Just keep reminding yourself of that. I think it's part of our food addiction - obsessing with food even though we can't eat much any more, dreaming about eating all the wrong things. I like Amy's idea - find something else to fill the time - take up knitting, get a library card and start reading like crazy, watch old movies etc. Better yet add some exercise - go for a walk etc. : ) Good luck - just remember it does get better. I'm 12 weeks out now and I'm into a routine of eating healthy food. I have bad days - but it's so much better - I'm losing weight and my Diabetes has resolved. Think positive!

    HELP, STALLED? CONFUSED!

I love tomato soup. I would make one small can with milk instead of Water almost daily. I would heat it up and pour it in a large coffee mug and sip it like coffee. I think that you are worrying too much about weight loss right now. I am not even exercising and I am averaging 10 lbs per month. I am retired so I can afford to do nothing all day long now, and a back problem prevents me from doing really good aerobics, so my weight loss is going to be slower than most, but I am happy with it so far. When you get to start eating real food again in a few more weeks, you will feel more satisfied and less hungry, I think. The sleeve will start working. Stick with the post-surgery meal plan. Relax and try to feel happy.

    Band to plication

I've not done well at all with GPS weight loss-wise (I just don't have much restriction), but if reflux is the main issue then it should help as this is a variant of the fundoplication which is specifically for reflux. I never had reflux post op (or pre op) and I haven't vomited once since surgery either. You check your surgeon WRT GPS and reflux as I don't know how far it varies from the fundoplication (I guess you end up with a smaller sleeve).
  19. I was just wondering how many calories a day people were told by their doctor to consume. I wasn't really given a target calorie amount, just told to eat good food and get full on that and that was pretty much it. I have lost 140 pounds since being banded over 4 years ago but have been pretty much at the same weight for the last 18 months or so by eating what I want. Obviously this isn't the best thing for my weight loss but for the most part I am happy. I am ready to just get rid of the rest of my weight now though and want some guidelines. I've looked at daily food diaries to get an idea of what you guys are eating but do you count calories too? I exercise every day also, sometimes more intense than other days so not sure if that affects the caloric intake. I was 360 and now weigh 220. My goal weight is 160 so to just get rid of the last 60 pounds, any pointers?!! Thanks much. :crying:
  20. Liz1531

    How many calories a day?

I wasn't given a target either. I am following Weight Watchers so my goal is 24 points per day. I'm losing VERY slowly doing this. It's taken me six months to lose 20lb.
  21. It's been a few months since I posted; however, I remember reading the pregnancy threads with interest as a pre-op. Prior to my surgery, I had been infertile due to PCOS for many years, to the point of having less than 5 horrible, irregular periods each year. I had my sleeve done April 16, 2012, my weight on surgery day was 296 (down from 312 before preop dieting). By March 1St of this year, I had been holding steady at 180lbs since Christmas, with not much luck in losing more. I am 5`8 for reference. Around 220lbs, without medication, my periods returned with clocklike regularity - to the point of starting during the same two hour timeframe in the morning. Wow! In late March, I started losing weight without any other changes....and then found out I was pregnant. I knew within about a week of conception due to the onset of gutwrenching morning (read: all day) sickness, followed by crushing fatigue. This has been a total change from previous pregnancies at higher weights, which were much less symptomatic. As I had a major, life-threatening portal vein thrombosis after my sleeve surgery last year, requiring hospitalization on a Heparin drip, I called my hematologist with confirmation of pregnancy at 4 weeks. He placed me on Lovenox injections to be continued through my entire pregnancy and for a handful of months post delivery. Finding a OB who would take me on as a post Bariatric patient was a challenge. My normal OB chastised me, staying bariatric patients are incapable of carrying healthy pregnancies (which is patently false, by the way), and refused to care for me. After many interviews, including one with a midwife who told me I was fat and shouldn't gain more than 10lbs through my pregnancy, I found an intelligent OB who is attentive and knowledgeable regarding the unique needs of expecting post bariatric moms. I am currently 11 weeks, and pregnancy has not been kind to me. I have been on prescription antiemetics in order to stop vomiting, now IV Iron infusions due to anemia. I've lost a few lbs, now holding at 174. My injections had to be doubled due to already forming a clot in my leg. However, that being said....I yearly believe my sleeve gave me a chance for one last pregnancy. A chance I wouldn't have had otherwise.
  22. Hi all. I am in my final phase prior to insurance approval for VSG in August. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early 20s. I had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis and adenomyosis in 2009 at age 34 , then my left ovary removed in 2012. They left what I consider a "garbage" ovary. It's temperamental and cystic bit seems to work well enough that I don't have to take hormones. Would likes to hear more from those who have had hysterectomy or oopherectomy (ovary removal) and their experience losing weight with VSG. Thanks! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T817A using Tapatalk

Add the oatmeal, protein powder, and Splenda and mix well. (If needed, you can add a little bit of water to make it easier to mix) Roll into walnut sized balls, refrigerate. Store in fridge in zip-lock baggies. This recipe makes 20-24 balls. It's important to note that this is not a low-calorie meal. This was yummy, but I would not add the brownie bites in the future -- they add 100 calories and 14g of carbs, which isn't worth it for the minimal flavor boost. Also, I typically use ff Lactaid milk, but dh brought home reduced fat and I didn't realize it. So, the reduced fat milk has 130 calories per cup, versus only 80 for the ff version. The caramel syrup has no nutritional value for a 1-oz. serving.
