    Adding semaglutide

Not exactly your circumstance....I was on Victoza. When I first started on Victoza, I lost about 30 lbs. over 6 months. Most of it from nausea and some reduced appetite. The appetite reduction went away. I stayed on Victoza after starting my weight loss prep program and lost about another 20 lbs. That was mostly from healthier eating. Blood sugars were decent. I stopped all diabetic meds on the day of my surgery in December 2020. Have lost 110 since surgery. Sugars remain good.
  2. to be honest, after first couple of months post op, Ive been drinking sips of wine everyday, less than a cup. Hasnt affected my weight too much althou I get dizzy very quickly haha.

    What is your biggest obstacle

My biggest struggle, I guess, would be my inability to get in a wide variety of foods. I feel like I just eat protein, i.e. meat or eggs, and then have no room for anything else like vegetables, dairy, healthy fats or even starch or fruits. I have spoken to my nutritionist before about this and she says that it will change over time and to just concentrate on getting in enough protein for now. That I'm still early in the game. I try but most days I'm lucky if, in addition to the meat (protein source), I get in 4 bites of veggies total for the day. Almost never get dairy unless it's a slice or two of cheese or yogurt or cottage cheese, and rarely get in starch even though that too is suggest for my diet. Fruit I have been really trying hard to get that in at least. I'm sure eventually it will even itself out. I also am finding it hard for exercise. This Summer has been a doozy when it comes to the health of my family. My son had a procedure, then me and my surgery and now my husband had surgery last week (had a defibrillator placed), plus I take care of my 3 grandkids from about 8am until 6pm or later sometimes. Anyway, I'm finding it hard to get time in for me or even a dang walk without anyone needing me or wanting to tag along to slow me down. I wanted to get back to the gym but it's just not possible at this time. I do have an exercise bike and various sizes or bands and free weights but, I'm just no good with coming up with a plan on what I need or should be doing. Can't even seem to find time to do those either. Thankfully I am still losing weight but I'd most definitely like to be toning sh*t up too at the same time. LOL

    Insurance Through Postop

9 months in- my sleeve is officially a full term baby! Weighing in today at 184.6, total weight loss of 154.4 lbs. I lost 8.2 lbs last month, which doesn’t seem like a lot but as I get closer to my goal weight it keeps getting more and more difficult to shed those last pounds! I have less than 20 lbs to go to get to 165. Work has been difficult as we move into another Covid surge, and as my mother’s health is rapidly declining- this may be the first time in my life that I’m not handling stress with overeating. I am still moving forward with losing weight- goal or bust! At this point it is so obvious how to derail a surgery- I can eat pretty much anything. I know I wouldn’t still be losing weight if I was just relying on my surgery for portion control. If you get this surgery you have to take a look at what you are eating and be realistic if it’s only portions that’s causing your weight or if it’s the food too. The surgery helps so much but past the first few months it won’t carry you anymore. You have to be making the right choices. This next month I’m super excited to get into the 170s! It would be awesome if I could reach 175 but anywhere in that range is fine.
  5. Hello everybody. I had a mini gastric bypass probably 20 years ago. I think I lost 50 pounds to 60 pounds over the course of a year. However, I started to regain weight and my diabetes returned for no real reason. However, I’ve been on Ozempic for my diabetes and I have lost significant weight. Probably 50 pounds I weigh 190. originally 270. 230 when I started Ozempic Does anybody else have similar Results if they are on a semaglutide and bypass surgery?
  6. Update for my August revision: I had my revision earlier this month and although it feels the same as VSG physically, it is different in that I am just not hungry at all. After 1 oz of unsweetened applesauce for dinner last night, I just didn't want another bite. Some people got that with their VSG, I never did. It's hard to eat if one has zero appetite. This week my average calories was 296. I have no idea what my goal is for this stage. My surgery water weight gain is finally coming off then I can see where my weight is at but at 296 average a day, I know I lost quite a bit. Luckily, so far, it's been a pretty easy recovery. I do not have any nausea, and have not vomited. I do have off and on diarrhea. I took an Equate equivalent of Imodium, that fixed it. I still have a stitch feeling on the left side though, maybe due to CO2 still in there. I drink with no problem but I still try to sip slowly because if I do drink fast, I just know I will get nauseated. I've slept better than ever because no Gerd. I have good energy due to good sleep. Of course, I'm always worried about future complications though since it is a more serious operation compared to my sleeve.

    15-year-old with a BMI about 40. ESG

If he has never tried any other method for weight loss you may want to try something like Weight Watchers. I did it for years before I finally had surgery and saw that the younger kids were actually pretty successful. That would give you an idea of how dedicated he is to changing his eating habits and lifestyle. Sometimes that's all kids need is to eat right and exercise. Whatever decision he makes is going to be a lot of work and I wish him great success...and you too as you direct him through this.

    Weightloss surgery

I'm in the UK so I don't know the process if the insurance is the same my bmi is 46 I have struggled with my weight since having my children and I've exhausted every possible way I could can do and have never seen any significant change in my weight I'm at higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes due to having gestational diabetes with both my children for the last 3 years I've been on lots of different diet plans being more active attending gym at least 3 times a week and seeing no results physically or even feeling good normal day to day tasks are a real struggle I feel as though my body has just given up and have been struggling to stay positive thinking if I just keep going I will see a change but in 3 years I've seen no change just feeling more and more useless Sent from my SM-G991B using Tapatalk

    Weightloss surgery

It very much depends on your insurance requirements as ShoppGirl mentioned. My insurance required 6 months of monitored weight loss, 3 months of nutrition, lung clearance, heart clearance, nutrition classes, surgical classes, psyche clearance, etc. The whole process took approximately 8 months from my first appointment until the day I had my surgery. I was also able to lose 68 pounds in that time so I was at least productive during that time lol.
  10. I am not sure an ESG is a good option for a younger person with a higher BMI. I had an ESG which is now converted to a standard surgical option. Unless the doctor is extremely expericenced in doing ESG the sutures have a high rate of loosening or coming loose all together. About 15 months or so after my ESG an endoscopy showed that had happened to me. Put this together with a young person who may not be so compliant with food volumes etc - eating more than a specified volume amount (consistently) could also cause the sutures to come undone or loosen. ESG leaves a stomach with a bigger volume than the surgical options so average weight loss is less than the surgical options. I believe the ESG average rate of loss of excess weight is 20%. Some people will lose more, some will lose less. I chose the ESG because it was minimally invasive, quicker recovery etc...but after going through the surgical option later, I wish I hadn't let those things sway me.
  11. This is kind of silly, but I always looked forward to things like going to concerts and being able to buy concert t-shirts. Back when I was a teenager in the 80s I wore a size large, but that wasn't as common to find, when I got older I wore between 2x to 5x at my highest weight, and they never had that size. My husband and I went to see my favorite band the other day, and I went to buy a t-shirt. I have been wearing XL, but they only had large left, and I decided to buy it anyway since I plan to lose more anyway. Well IT FITS!!! So I can fit into the size I wore in high school now AND I got my first concert t-shirt! It's these kind of things I always looked forward to! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sleeved November 2019

Hiya! I was sleeved 11/6/19. Surgery weight was 310, lowest I got was 187. I’m sitting at 210 right now but have been working out A LOT and building muscle.
  13. Thank you for your response. This is how I approached him. I asked him if there was one thing I could change about him with a magic wand and it would change instantly what would it be? He could’ve answered with any response. His answer was… “I would like to change how I am physically and I want to change the bad habits that got me this way” I was able to get him to see his problem without pointing it out to him It was then that I brought up all the options that were available to him to help him lose weight from diet and exercise to medication to surgery. It’s just me and him together. I am willing to do the work that he’s going to need to help him be a success with his surgery. I had mini gastric bypass 20 years ago. I know what patient go through and I warned him that the psychological part is going to be the hardest part for him. Anyway, thank you for your reply
  14. What does he say? Is he ready to lose weight? Does he think he needs to lose weight? Because if he isn’t ready yet, there is absolutely no point in having this surgery, if you can find a surgeon to do it. This is A LOT of work and if you don’t want to do that work, you’ll find ways around the sleeve or pouch.

    Weightloss surgery

It most likely depends on your insurance to a large degree. Many insurance companies require either a 3 or 6 month supervised weight loss (they usually accept doctors notes from other doctors for all or part of this). It will also depend on what tests and mandatory requirements your surgeon wants. If you are over 40 BMI you most likely do not need to prove a comorbidity but 35-40 you will most likely be sent for tests for fatty liver and sleep apnea And possibly some others as they apply to your symptoms to prove you need surgery. The doctor may also require some tests to make sure you are fit for surgery like on your heart. Finally, Most doctors also require a visit with a nutritionist to go over the pre and post op diet and a psyc evaluation to make sure you are ready for surgery. All of this can sound overwhelming but in most cases you have three to six months to get it all done and not all doctors require everything. I just had to see nutritionist and psychiatrist and do typical pre op labs but I had already been diagnosed with joint issues so I didn’t need to prove a comorbidity and I had a lower BMI, plus he had access to all my other annual exams and other doctors notes so he didn’t require the pre surgery tests on my heart and all that that some are required to do. My supervised weight loss was six VISITS not six months and I had one already with primary doctor so I had to do five visits with the surgery center which took me 4 months and my surgery was two weeks later (right after a two weeks pre op diet). Best decision I ever made. Well worth all the steps!!

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Hey there, I'm just like you when it comes to having a love of working out. Post surgery, it's never been a problem to do at least 5 workouts a week. Really enjoying Reformer Pilates because it gives me cardio and weight training at the same time yet its low impact on my knees. My goal is to return to tennis but I have to make sure that I've taken enough weight off and don't blow out another knee. I also need to work on the water and protein intake. Maybe that is why I am in a stall now. You seem to be doing pretty good. Keep up the great work. Where water is concerned, I noticed that when I add lemon juice and drink without a straw, I consume more than without those two elements. Take care and congrats on your successful journey so far... Trish
  17. Just picked up my Walmart order and I added on some raw veggies after your post earlier. I haven’t been buying cause I was eating such small quantities but I can eat a bit more now and I guess If I have to waste a little I just have to. Better than gaining weight cause I eat something else. Thanks for the tip.

    What is your biggest obstacle

I'm still pre-op... I'm dreading/fearing the emotional changes because I have bipolar disorder and my meds are totally stable but I know this will be throwing me a curve ball as my hormones go crazy when I'm losing weight. I'm also dreading/fearing possible diarrhea from eating random things. I spent years with IBS/diarrhea from my meds and it's so terrible to not know when you'll need to find a bathroom IMMEDIATELY.
  19. Update: I heard back from the surgery coordinator and they have submitted the prior authorization with a weight that has a BMI of about 43, so I'm cleared to lose weight again! Yay! Now, if only I hadn't bought that tub of ice cream...

    Kaiser So Cal BMI 39.8

I just posted about this because I've lost a lot of weight during the process of getting ready for surgery and I got two suggestions: wear ankle weights and slouch while they're taking your height. Unfortunately those won't work for me since I won't get weighed till I check in for surgery and my height was just recorded by my PCP who is in the same system. I've just resorted to overeating, which feels pretty gross, but I'm not sure what else to do.
  23. Having not bad any medical issues as a result of my weight except joint pain I can’t say I know exactly how you feel but I having dealt with most other prejudices due to my weight I can certainly empathize. I don’t think the doctors do it on purpose. I think it’s because they work on the “rule out” theory. If someone has this, rule out x cause and it must be y. Well they can’t “rule out” weight as a cause unless you can lose the weight and still have the issue. I think an even better question would be if I came to you tomorrow 50 or 100 or whatever pounds lighter with the same issue what would you be considering. I’m sorry that you are so upset that you haven’t been able to ask that question. Perhaps losing the weight will take care of the issues but if not, at least the doctor will look for less common causes after the weight is no longer an issue. What’s sad is they they all are aware of prejudices that obese patients face and that it is a huge issue in the medical field yet they have done very little to change it other than some people just try to ignore our weight alltogether and all the issues it does cause neglecting things rather than talk about it which may seem polite but isn’t the answer either. I am glad we won’t have to deal with this much longer but am still hopeful that someone comes up with a solution for those who haven’t lost the weight.
  24. most companies use the weight that was recorded when you first started the program (although not all). Hopefully yours does..

What are you looking forward to ?

10 years ago when I smoked and was fat, the doctors always said, deal with the smoking first, your weight is secondary to that. Now all the problems that they blamed on my smoking are now because of my weight .... I gave up smoking and in the last 10 years have gained 80 pounds. I gradually stopped going to see them unless its an emergency. Why should we be treated so differently. Is it a power trip for them because they know we have zero confidence from years of abuse ? lizonaplane and candace76 I know your hurt
