    I fit in the bath!

I hear you. A bath is such a pleasure for me. One of my big NSVs post-op was the day I was able to get back down into and back UP OUT OF the bathtub. (My knees / legs were so weak after being heavy for so long it took a while for their increasing post-op strength to match my decreasing post-op weight.)

What kind of nsv is this?

When you said 'fell into bed for a nap and clearly there was something poking me in the belly/chest.' My first thought was 'crikey, her husband is a bit forward, isn't he?!' Clearly I need to seek therapy... Congrats on your NSV though. It's awesome

    6 MONTHS out...

its good to hear from you all and know that I am not alone in this journey... I understand what you are all saying... and yes working the sleeve... and keeping a food diary is important, and exercise no matter if the weather is turning cold and the days short... I bought a treadmill for $50... lol it works fine so I am going to give that a whirl when the days are too cold and too short... I was at 184.9 ... what a tease this morning... I weigh only once a week... I am going to try to up my protein and cool it on those foods that go down so easy... usually carbs... I too struggle with the denser meats.... I have lots and lots of NSV... I think if I reach a size 10 I will def. have broken my sabotaging ways... lol never been below a 14 in my life.... so I am treading new ground...
  4. Monday marks 4 weeks post-op for me. I have only lost 10 pounds. I am struggling to not focus on the number of the scale, but it is really hard. I want progress so badly. I get my first fill on Tuesday so that gives me something to look forward to. I guess I keep feeling like I am having good days and bad days. Since I have been on solid foods I haven't lost anything, even if I do not eat very much. The only NSV I have had is fitting in to a pair of jeans that I couldn't wear a month ago. But that doesn't feel like a victory because that pair is the same size as most of my clothes - it is just that I had to buy one pair a size up since nothing was fitting quite right. The new ones feel huge, my 'old' ones feel normal. Ugh. so frustrating. When does the pace pick up a little?? Even just one pound a week would feel like progress.
  5. How exciting! That is most certainly a wonderful NSV

    Managing stress

Excellent observations melandoll!!! I recognize that very zone you described. I too was shocked SHOCKED I tell you, to discover how effectively eating/OVEReating had become my own Journey to Morbid Obisity. Identifiying and recognizeing those very points helps tremendously in preparing for the next phase into the 'Days of our Desires' in a non-food way. Somehow along the way I discoverd LBT and learned to find other activies. ONE thing that really helped, was to list a new discovery every time I made one, such as "I can walk to the mail box without my knee exploding".....a form of NSV --Non scale Victories....which after a few bouts of "WHAT have I done to myself ", suddenly all sorts of NSVs began multiplying. Another sudden activity, was to start the boxing up of clothing no longer SMALL ENOUGH to fit!! What excitement! Suddenly, in stead of boxes of stuff that was too small or too tight, there was some of my old favorites that in themselves I had put away to wear a some glorious future time where I could somehow slip back into them....but I was disappointed, as now they too was JUST TOO LARGE!!!! Discovering each week my size crept closer to the ultimate shock (WARNING---this is TOUGH).....there were entire stores out there, that didn't even have the XXXXL sizes....and I was being sent to them by my old fat-boy clerks....the pain of rejection somehow bumped me out of some of my preoccupaiton with food choices. Along the way I discovered I was more preoccupied with not 'hunger' but instead the FEAR of becomeing 'hungry'... Then I discovered 'satiety' was REAL....and that the approach of 'hunger' was enjoyable in the way s pleasant summer swale that cooled the heat of the day and restored the comfort of just admiring the approaching 'hunger' ...which I could easily modify with a few bites instead of laboring under entire bread loaves and bags-o-burgers. etc. So YOU can DO IT TOO!!! Cheers in your journey.
  9. LOL!!! Those are really great NSV's!! Keep on sleeve brother before you know it those ladies are gonna be bustin down your door!
  10. So, just a couple of short NSV's from Saturday night! I was out for dinner with some friends, and I was walking through our local Red Robin (note: the Ensenada chicken Platter is fairly sleeve-friendly; high Protein, not ENORMOUS portion sizes), and a couple of nice things happened in quick succession. First, I had my hands in my jeans pockets. Now, non-obese people probably wouldn't understand, but you guys might: my jeans fit me well these days (not giant and baggy, and not skin tight) and I noticed that having my hands in my jeans pockets felt... comfortable! I didn't feel like my hands were going to be severed at the wrists. I didn't feel like I had to bow my arms out over a huge gut. I didn't feel like my jeans were going to fall off and I had to "hold them up" with my hands. Everything just fit... right... and my hands felt comfortable! That was nice! Second, I noticed a couple of the waitresses there "checking me out." This was a nice ego boost since I'm 40 and I'd wager that the average age of the wait staff was 21-25. Now I"m no Brad Pitt and I never will be, but it's nice to feel at least "average" in appearance again, isn't it? Even if you don't intend to DO anything about it, it's nice to get "checked out" by the opposite sex once in a while! Just a couple of NSV's there that I figured I'd share!

    Having one of 'those' days

All that you wrote in your post is normal, and I can write that I also had that same post op discussion with myself. The weight loss journey with your band does require your participation with diet, lifestyle compliance, and understanding that your band is only a very useful and self empowering tool for weight loss. You will be successful if you are motivated and committed to change your relationship with food and your lifestyle to eat to live and not live to eat. Fear of failure is common, but if you chose to follow the instructions you were given by your surgeon, you will be successful. As you travel this journey there will be "NSV's" along the way that will affirm your progress and strengthen your resolve for success. This forum has many members who have been successful and will be supportive of your efforts to succeed. Believe in yourself...you can and will do this...if YOU want to! Best wishes for a successful journey...
  12. Single digit jeans! I made a last minute stop to Marshalls and I thought to myself I've been having a crappy week (work related) I need a new pair of jeans. I was rummaging through the 10s. But the 10s I have now we're getting a little bit loose, so I picked up a pair of 8s and thought if they don't fit now they may fit in few weeks. Came home tried them on and they fit! Like a glove and I can't believe it. I have not been in the single digits since maybe my freshman year of high school! I'm down 83lbs. Current weight 173.
  13. Good Afternoon All, This week I had a great NSV. I called my mom up to see if I could get some shirts from her because all of mine are to big, trying not to spend to much on replacing clothing. So she says yes she does and I'm all set to go to her house and raid her closet (I love shopping her a closet she has expensive taste and good quality clothing). I get a call back from her she says lets go to the mall and I'll buy you some stuff. I'm like sure thanks Mom (loves her so much). We go in Macy Plus size department don't like anything in there , not my style. I knew I could fit a 16w in plus size, so my mom is like you could probably fit things in teh Missy Department so we go upstairs in the Missy department and guess what I could fit thing in there. I got a dress in X-large not a 1x but an X-large. Than we go into JcPenny Missy department and guess what I was able to shop there to I got two pair of size 18 regular pants. I'm in the dressing room like regular pants. These are regular pants no "W" after the number. I am so excited. I'm going down baby!! Sorry for the long winded story but I'm so excited. Thanks for reading!!

    NSV

Wow, that is definitely an awesome NSV. And, I am sure he is so proud of you. Sent from my iPad using VST
  15. I went shopping with my mom this past weekend and every top I bought was either a Medium or a Large in women's- not a 1x or 2x or 3x. How I just realized that- IDK lol. They either fit perfectly or lose lol. Just thought I'd share
  16. That is a NSV to shout from the rooftops! Congrats!
  17. I learned the value of NSVs. Sometiimes the scales refuse to show how much progress we're making but there are other ways to see we're headed in the right direction. Too tight pants that are now too big or a compliment from an unexpected source. #3 is where I've failed before so I've already bought my serving containers to freeze meals that I can then pop into the microwave later in the week.
  18. My wife brought in a picture today of my brothers wedding, where I was standing near the top at around 17 years old. We were pointing and talking about the best man in the center. And then I point over a couple to the right and say quite certainly that I do not remember that person. My wife breaks out laughing and can't stop. I don't get it and am like what's so funny. She says that person standing there is you, silly. Now what is the point and how does this relate to a possible NSV you ask? Well, there have been a number of posts that say their mind has not caught up with their body after losing weight. In this case, I have already mentally accepted my new body sans 150 lb later. Granted I was probably about 240 and shorter in the picture, but still, it got me thinking. I am ready to be a thin person staring back in the mirror because my mind no longer recognizes the fat person staring back in photos.

Great NSV Mary Way to go! Im having a mammogram next month.
  20. This is a huge NSV for me. I've always had big feet for a girl. Kind of embarrassed about it especially because I'm only 5'6 ish. My brother used to make fun of me and call me Saskwatch!! So mean ???????????? Anyway, at a size 9.5 my feet were already above average. When I gained weight, they grew to a size 10.5!!! ????????????????. Almost 11!! Oh. My. God. The horror!! Anyway. I've lost 130 pounds. And I now wear a size 9!!!!! Yes!!!! Thank you vsg for saving my feet. And no foot pain either!! What did your feet do?

    NSV: Size 36 jeans

Definitely at NSV!! I know that while the scale may "measure" our loss, its harder to see our bodies shrinking until we do something like put on a pair of jeans that we have long outgrown. Such a great feeling! Congrats! :thumb:
