    Hospital stay ???'s

For my surgeon and hospital it was to be a 2-3 day stay. I stayed for 3 because the doctor didnt want me to drive the 3 hours home until he was sure I was fine.

    Protein Problems

I'm about 6 weeks out and just last week was able to hold 4 oz of solid Protein (but not dense) for a meal. What tpes of Proteins are you taking? If you're using whey isolate proteins that are lactose free, but still bothering you, you might want to switch to your nutrisionist about a different protein base. WPI is one of the best for us, but if you aren't tolerating it you should still have some options. Milk proteins can sneak into a lot of products, including things like flavorings, toothpaste, etc. But it's a little unusual (IMO) that you're having reactions to lactose-free products. Do "dairy-free" products bother you as well?
  3. So I've been lacking in fiber, as most of us probably are. I've decided to start having 'green' drinks for breakfast. I had one yesterday and another today. Strawberries, raspberries, 1/2 banana, and spinach. I'm going to pick up some Chia seeds this weekend to start adding them as well. I created 3 recipes that are high in fiber and acceptable calories for a meal. I'm already feeling a little better having them the past 2 days. Anyone try these or have smoothie recipes to share?

    Surgery Date

Hi. We should exchange email address so we can keep up with each others progress. Mine is sheila.pinkney@shaw.ca Luckily I do not have to do any pre-op dieting like the liquid diet. I have been doing nothing but pre-op dieting since November 30 and I have lost more than the required 10% and I am still following the 1 cup of food 3 times a day. Although I do cheat now and then. My surgeon said that changing to this diet from the very beginning helps to train you to prepare for life post surgery. Anyway, hang in there, our day will be here before we know it. Sheila

    Old Things in New Ways

I do mostly eggs, but I was just wanting something different. Thanks for the advice. I have Stevia, so I will use it more. This is so weird for me because I am (almost) 3 weeks and I have entered the 'paranoid' stage where I don't want to mess up my progress or eat the wrong thing, but I am tired of eating the SAME things all the time! I know this sounds whiney, so I apologize in advance.

    Recovery?

Thanks Don. We have an evening out planned (well sort of but I can get out of it) a week after my surgery... so not sure if I'll be able to sit for say 3 hours to enjoy it.... I've also managed to put off having any house guests (the draw of living in Spain with the warm weather and a pool usually brings them over in the summer!!) until 3 weeks out, and then its my best friend who knows about the surgery. I'm glad you're recovering well - enjoy being at home... I know I hate being in hospital so will look forward to returning home next weekend after the event! Good luck with your recovery Kathy

    Wendy's Chili

My dr said to just eat what we are supposed to eat and not over fill the sleeve. I know at 7 months out I am able to eat too much. I have to stop myself from doing that. Check with your nut to see if you should eat that much at one time. Christie at 7 weeks you definitely should not be eating over 1/2 cup at a meal.

    Missing something from my diet.

i dont see how i can though. food isnt sitting well and neither are protein shakes and i get so tired at work which slows me down. Honestly, i would be surprised if i dropped alot this week because of how i feel. i guess i thought i would feel more energy but i am feeling less.

  10. If I was your husband the 85% divorse rate after you loose the weight would be more of a concern, or not? 60% is the statistic used to describe how much excess weight is lost by the average person that under goes this surgery. It has nothing to do with remission back to your current weight. Have you husband actually read the statistics. In my case, at 2 weeks out I was off all medications. At 7 weeks my knees no longer hurt when walking up or down stairs. The fatality rate is close to having a tooth pulled at .01%. Complications are low if you go to a good surgeon. My surgeon has had one leak and no deaths. He has been doing bariatric surgery for over 10 years at about 500 surgeries in the last year alone. This surgery is all about you. Dont let others interfer if its your decision.
  11. This is very normal. I chose once a week as my official weigh in - every monday. I kept a log of weights and progress. I might have sometimes weighed other days, but Monday was my official weight of record..haha. Some people do it monthly.
  12. I had stalls when I gained weight so I expect them when I lose. I remember times when I was eating horribly and thinking, "wow, I haven't even gained", then wham 10 pound gain.
  13. My pre op diet was the same as yours...except it was 16 days long. My liver was pretty crazy in size with lots of little arms coming out of it...so I had to do my pre op diet a lot longer. I took a ton of hot baths during dinner time at the beginning....if I was stuck in the tub I wouldn't think about the food as much. Once I hit day 4 or 5, I was better fkr sure. The first 3 or 4 days your body is detoxing from all the sugar, flour and processed foods. Day 4 or 5 you'll most likely turn a corner. Water up as much as you can and do what pdxman said...get out and move. It'll naturally make your body feel better. We've almost all felt the same way...many have walked before you..and were all pulling for you!

How long did it take for you to be able to lay on your stomach?

I'm not sure about stomach surgery but after I had a lung biopsy I was lying on my side about a week after, maybe leave it a week or 2 just to be sure, your stomach actually needs 6 weeks to recover from any surgery so it would be best to wait that amount of time.

Not as much restriction as expected!

Hello I am a revision as well. Often as having a revision, we compare restriction with the band as I did. Having our type of surgery as I did in the same surgery (revision) having scar tissue plays a part in that. The Sleeve is a sterner master and I was worried when I could eat more after a month. Liquids do go down quicker and each food type has the ability to have different type of restriction. Liquids= no restriction/ Soft food= moderate restriction/ Solid foods depending on what kind= restriction. I am 2 months out and have been a slow loser with the 3 week stall and for my age and pre-menopause, taking BP pills ALL have played a part in my weight lost. Not to forget your "bougie" size, the measuring device used to measure your new stomach size. ALL of these factors play a part. Drink plenty of Water, Protein a must and watch slider foods that will not support your weight lost. The sleeve works you just have to work with it and not compare yourself with others. Remember this is no the band , thank God and we have a new stomach that we have to get use to. I have restriction and I weight out my food and STOP willfully when I feel the full signal, Over eating with the sleeve is out of bounds as it is nothing like the band, as stated this is sterner master and will not allow you to get away with eating around it. Work the Sleeve it is truly a great tool! I remember being angry as I was 2 months out and only 15lb loss. Well since then I have lost 4lbs and it just came off.

Anyone else scared of the gym???

My husband is in the military. Our base is covered with fit people. Our gym is free. The first time i walked in I was nervous, but did my best to look like i owned the place...i've been going M-F and some weekends for 2 months now and all of the employees know me and as well as regular gym goers. The first week I acutally had a guy tap me on myshoulder and tell me to keep up the great work. That I ispire him to keep going even when he doesn't want it. Sure there are times when I'm doing an ab workout on the side of the football field where they are running for PT tests, but that passes over, because no one can fault me for being at the gym...I even have a trainer that offered to train me at no cost...so i guess it pays to look out of place sometimes! lol:thumbup:

Anyone else scared of the gym???

Ok I went and did fine, 1 mile on tred mill and 2 mile on bike. felt good and I was there for one hour. I will go 4 days a week.....
  20. I think your weight loss total is awesome. Stalls are mentally so hard! My nutritionist gets me to do screenshots from a bariatric app that I use to track my meals etc. She looks at the time between eating, what I'm eating etc and it's shocking what she picks up that i never would. I imagine you have a nutritionist on your recovery team maybe do the same and just get them to look it over for you.

    FF Coffeemate

I am going to be sleeved on May 23 and I am on the liquid pre-op diet. I can have 3 or 4 sf instant breakfast shakes, sf jello, sf popsicles, broth and non carbonated caffeine free sugar free drinks. Do you think a little FF coffeemate in my decaf would be OK? Skim milk just tastes horrible in coffee. There is so much great info in these forums! Thanks to all of you!

    Is my band too tight?

Damn, how I am hoping to find that sweet spot.. I have only had one fill, and my doctor wants me on two days of Clear Liquids followed by 2 days of full liquids after a fill. I abbreviate it to 3 days of Protein shakes.. LOL Also, I guess your stomach may have swollen slightly, so taking it a little easier for a day or two might help.. keep well, good luck k

    I’m SCARED!! Stalling after 1 month Post-op?!?

Are you drinking the same protein drink the whole 2-3 months? Try switching if they aren't settling well. Also with chicken and tuna, I had to make them really moist and juicy for me to be able to swallow without gagging when I was able to actually have pureed/soft foods. It was horrible until I figured it out. The most important thing is you are losing and have lost a lot. We are all different in how our surgeries work and how fast. Keep your head up and doing what's right and your body will lose the weight how fast your body is supposed to lose weight.

    Can't Focus?

When I was on the 2 week pre-op liquid diet, I got scatterbrained too. I don't think the diet had alot to do with it. I think the problem was that I was so single-mindedly focused on what I needed to do to keep my head in the game that all other things went to the back burner. Not to worry.....it will get better after surgery
