  1. Started the preop diet today and am not nearly as hungry as I thought I would be. Thank goodness. I do the Syntrax Fuzzy Navel in the morning and premier protein at lunch. Had an apple as a snack and have a low-fat yogurt to eat before my hair appointment. Then for dinner we are supposed to have 4 oz of lean meat and a cup of non-starchy vegetables. I was going to cook those ahead and just heat them up but was lazy on Sunday and didn't. Now I have to go home and cook - but oh well. Two weeks from today is my surgery - August 11th. Amazing that it is finally almost here as I started this process in July of 2014. Long time but I think I needed that time to get psychologically ready. I'm ready now.

    3-month update

Yesterday marked 3 months since my band-to-sleeve revision. I feel good! I have lost 32lbs so far. I am starting to do some jogging on my walks and am determined to be a runner someday. I just think runners seem so free and I love that idea! My weight loss has not been easy.... slow and stall prone. I re-evaluate every day. I use Fitbit and myFitnessPal which have been helpful. Today, I was I reviewing my food journal and noticed that my carbs are too high. I am not a huge meat eater so my protein choices are typically cheese, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, beans and protein shakes. I posted on the forum today requesting ideas for better protein options and plan on shopping this evening!
  3. I have noticed lately that my carb count is high even when I try to make wise Protein choices. My diet consists of Protein shakes, greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I need to move away from these, at least in part. I am not good at cooking... I hate it. I am on a mission this evening to shop for quick go-to protein items that are low in carbs. As a band-to-sleeve revision, my weight loss is much slower than my roommates (went to Mexico on same date). Also, I have hypothyroidism and I just want to ensure success! I am down 32lbs in 3 months and have 45 to go to goal. Suggestions please!!

    Headaches

Hi, Tomorrow will be 3 weeks post op, I have had a great experience so far, I am very hard on myself and get on the scale all the time, I am down 17 pounds since surgery and almost 30 since 2 week post op, just FYI to help others the scale did not move for 3 days but then dropped 4 pounds so if you are experiencing this hang in there! I am now starting to get hungry, last night i woke up in the middle of the night starving! I am still mainly having plain yogurt mixed with a bit of fruit (blended) and either the primer shakes 30g protein 160 calories or shakes from Dietician. I am experiencing headaches that feel like hunger headaches, The surgeon said only a little liquid tylenol. I am having 650-800 a lories most days and more than the 64 of water. What di you do for headaches, also and I know ppl feel this way a lot…How many calories are did you have or are having at 3-4 weeks out and what kind of foods? i had some tuna with cottage cheese and it went down fine but it sat in tummy ,too soon? thanks.
  5. Yes we do have this!! I just realized this might be combined with a sinus headace and just took a Claritin. Eating yogurt and feeling better.

    OCTOBER 2014

Can't remember if I've told you all my new favorite Breakfast. I was getting really tired of eggs, although they keep me nice and full all morning. So I'm switching it up to this: I bought frozen blueberries and frozen sliced strawberries. I put about 3/4 of a cup of them in a bowl in the frig at night. Then in the morning add about 1/2-3/4 cup of plain ( I know, nasty by itself) greek yogurt. I got the Chobani (?) Only 6g of sugar, no fat, (that's for a full serving, which I don't have, so less than 6g of sugar) I'm never ready to eat right away, so I bring this bowl of half frozen fruit & yogurt to work. Then about 8:15-8:30 the fruit has de-frosted and it leaves a super yummy syrup in the yogurt. Stir it up well and you have naturally flavored greek yogurt! Then for a little crunch, I sprinkle on about 2TBS of dry steel cut oats! More protein! It is SO yummy!!! I can usually eat about 1/2-3/4 of it, so the rest I save for a little snack later on in the day if I need one.

During the liquid phase I used pre made shakes by premier Protein. I did not have any Popsicles what so ever and i ate regular Yoplait yogurt which was recommended by my nut. Because you eat so little of it at any one time the sugar did not bother me at all nor did the fat. I cannot tolerate any sugar substitutes so I just tried to choose things without sugar. I lived on homemade chicken broth, 1percent cottage cheese, yogurt and creamed Soups through the liquid phase and then ended up living on it through the puréed stage as well. I did not do well with puréed meats and I don't eat Beans. If you do that is a very good source of protein. I could not and still cannot tolerate eggs after trying them puréed. That is the only thing that made me vomit. I am still bummed about that because I used to love eggs. Every few weeks I will try eggs again to see if I can handle it but they weigh very heavy in my pouch and make me uncomfortable. Also, in the first few months after I even found myself lactose intolerant from the sugar in milk. That finally did go away. I also did not even like the taste of anything sweet or greasy. I ended up buying Kozy Shack chocolate pudding at about 4 months because it is not overly sweet. Prior to that I did not even touch pudding. That is about the only sweet thing I actually eat at this point and I do eat it fairly often. I never had full on dumping syndrome. I am not sure why but I am very happy about it. I am down 114lbs in 10 months with 31 to go until goal.

    OCTOBER 2014

@@Luna222 You have been busy in the dating game. I would be suspicious of the Fitness dude too. If you are dating someone you shouldn't be trying to sell them something, right? That's a huge red flag. Even if he is the most wonderful person, he is guilty of poor emotional intelligence. I am glad you and your BF are trying to make changes. Life is too short to be unhappy. However, I must agree finding a good guy is hard. Finding a good "anything" is such hard work. Even a good pair of shoes is hard to find. I am glad your scope is fine. I am sure you probably just need to work towards balance in the foods you eat. Sometimes I have to be very careful. I am taking two weeks of Omeprozole (same as Protonix) and now I feel much better. I think my issue was stomach acid. I had some Protein oatmeal that was too large of a portion. It was the Quaker Oatmeal little packages but it did not agree with me. I am also trying to be more careful with food. I make sure I eat slowly again (surprise, surprise) and always eat something with my pills. I was getting a little lax with my regimen. Still eating all the right stuff but lunch was happening at 2:00 Pm and my pills were not taken at the right times. I get distracted. I am also more sensitive to sugar then I used to be. I could eat a cookie and be fine. Now, not so much. Even a pear or a banana is too much sugar. I always have to eat it with some other food first and then only one bite. I had two spoons of a pudding like dessert for dinner and my heart was racing within 10 minutes. I was also feeling so hot, I had to turn on a fan and lay down. Blueberries are the perfect food because there is a little sugar but not too much. Even a sweet salad dressing is too risky. I think anything sweet that gets absorbed too quickly is bad. My NUT told me a long time ago you can train your palate to a degree of sweetness that's acceptable. Like finding your sweet threshold and using those things as you sweet treat. I also have in the back of my mind that 10 grams of sugar per serving are the max. In yogurt and other foods I check for that. My favorite dessert right now is Yoplait Greek 100 Cheesecake or Blueberry flavor. So yummy! I would seriously suffer if those went out of production, lol.

Pre op and post op shopping

    1. I would have a shake for breakfast, a Protein bar as a snack, shake for lunch, Protein Bar, and for dinner a lean meat with a vegetable and starch. 2. I have only tried isopure post op and I didn't like it, mango peach I think. My issue with it was that it tasted like juice with some whey protein mixed it. (Probably not a helpful answer for you, sorry). 3. The only things that I brought that I really needed was the pillow, sandals for walking around the hospital, and my 6 foot iPhone charger. 4. Post op diet: the first week I lived on watered down juice, Water, sugar free creamsicles/Popsicles/fudge pops, and soup (I love egg drop soup and the cream chicken and wild rice from panera). I bought a whole case of premier Protein shakes before surgery and ended up drinking it all before hand. It was a good thing because I no longer tolerate premier, or any of the flavored stuff for that matter. I bought an unflavored powder that I add to smoothies. I also go to Jamba Juice, get a small smoothie with a shot of protein and it takes me a day to drink that. I have tried Peanut Butter (no Bueno but it was my own fault), yogurt didn't do well, I was okay with grits and oatmeal, refried Beans were okay, baby food was also a good one for me because that comes in so many flavors. eggs are a work in progress, I love them but I feel like they sit in my throat for hours and it's uncomfortable so I currently avoid them. I am currently working on eating 3 meals a day; I eat probably once a day and it's because I don't fee like eating or when I do I just drink water and the feeling goes away. Honestly, I would much rather drink than eat.

    Aspartame

I don't eat artificial sweeteners so during the liquid phase for me I lived on my chocolate Protein powder which has stevia, Soups, yogurt, v8 juice, Water and a couple days of gatorade when i wasn't able to get enough calories. It was a rough couple of weeks especially the 2nd week but once i got my routine down it wasn't bad. A variety of soups helped.

Something I posted on another similar topic... "For my 2 week pre and post op I made my own Popsicles using vitamin water zero. I also made my own jello using Kool Aid packets and Stevia. Google Kool aid jello and then just substitute stevia for however much sugar the recipe calls for. I also made my own pudding using Greek yogurt (check what sweeteners in ingredients) and unsweetened cocoa powder. It's more work than just buying everything pre made but it was worth it for me."
  14. I'm not. I can't handle regular meat yet. Tried a turkey burger the other day (no bun) and on the second bite I had to puke. I can tolerate ground chicken so I've been making buffalo chicken meatballs and I can only eat one and a half. Today I tried Triscuits with hummus and that sat well. I can actually feel full when I eat two other than that it's Greek yogurt and scrambled eggs. I'm going to try tuna fish with cucumber slices this week. Oh!! I did have two pieces of shrimp tempura sushi and I was fine with that and OMG YUM!

For my post op liquid diet I can only have milk, yogurts, protein drinks, and broth. Its a very boring diet. Im starting to hate protein drinks.
  17. I was sleeved on July 8th as well. I am doing great. Today was my first day back at work and it went well. I am still on soft foods right now (eggs, Greek yogurt etc.). It is still a challenge for me to get all of my water in for the day. Yogurt is my go to first thing in the morning because it soothes my reflux. My weight coming off gradually. I've lost 20 pounds since surgery. No regrets at all!! Loving my sleeve!! ????

For the liquid preop diet I can have SF jello and pudding, light yogurt, stage 1 baby food, and strained soups. Plus protein drinks.

Still weigh more than surgery day!

Yeah I think in the beginning I had greek yogurt and then cut it out too. I do keep a little to mix with my tuna though instead of mayo. This is just my experience but I have tried lower carbs and tried upping carbs trying to break a stall and I will say that lowering the carbs did work. Not sure if it's coincidence or it really does work. I am just starting my 8th week So it really is trial and error and learning from those that are farther out.
  20. I go on August 5th t set up surgery and the group I use the pre-diet is FULL liquid for 7 days-- you can have all the Soups you want minus the meat, noddles, veggies..just the broth.. All the sugar free popsicles..yogurt..pudding..ect.. The. Last 3 days clear liquid only

Pre op and post op shopping

My requirements were a little different than yours, I did a full liquid diet 10 days prior to surgery (had mine July 16) I start doing a RTD Protein drinks (muscle milk pro vanilla or strawberry 32g protein - or Premier Protein vanilla or strawberry 30g protein) for Breakfast, and another for lunch. (sometimes I did a third one in the evening) For dinner I would get a Soup from somewhere, hot n sour soup, broccoli n cheese soup etc and mix some unflavored protein until that unflavored protein started making me feel sick on the stomach and just started having the soup by itself (I also did broths). For Snacks, I did greek yogurt or SF Jello. Drank Water, Gatorade G2 and Propel water. Hot herbal tea (rasbery zinger, no caffeine) with no sweetner at work during the day. At the Hospital, I brought some shower shoes (flip flops) but I didn't use them because they gave me those hospital socks, then I just wore my regular shoes when I went walking. I waited till I got home to shower (My surgery was at 3 and I was discharged at 12 the next day). I also bought my toothbrush and toothpaste, gasx strips, my ipad and chargers for my phone and ipad. I used my ipad for about an hour before I was discharged (watched Ferris Beullers day off on Netflix) didn't need anything else. I just relaxed, walked and slept the whole time I was there.
  22. @@Hipigrl welcome to sleeveland sorry about all your physical issues/surgeries with your back, foot etc they should improve gradually as you loose more weight initial 50 lb pre-op weight loss is/was great another 24 lbs post op!! you are doing great!!! continue to read the board and you will get more and more good suggestions (Vitamins etc) at the end of the only listen to your NUT!!! (me too of course) i take the bariatric vitamins these are "horse" pills, but i manage no problem some others take chewable vitamins (flinstones)?? ask your NUT for help, suggestion on what vitamins to buy ask for help with Protein choices too "vegetarian not a vegan" don't know the difference Peanut Butter eggs (can you eat?) glad you eat/like yogurt i love Fage 0% plain greek yogurt 100 calories (5 3/4 oz) i add in one sweet and low 8 blueberries (yes i count them ) mix everything together, yum yum this gives my 18 gr of protein many others eat light and fit dannon yogurt cottage cheese ever popular Protein Bars many buy the Quest bars they are very good 20 gr of protein but they can be addicting (to me, they are so yummy) calories about 180-200 cheese is great for protein is fish ok for you?? tuna fish, baked haddock?? there are probably others here that are vegatarians i always used milk with my Protein shake pre-made (with milk) a shake has 20 gr of protein my GNC has 25 gr protein but.......you can mix the powdered shake with Water i've heard you can also add some powdered protein into various foods (i don't remember what "they" said - cuz i never did that) but it sounds like a good idea helping to get more protein in if you are allowed to drink coffee - some people put in you are to a great start keep it up for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life having your beautiful baby is a great motivator to get/stay healthy good luck kathy

    Cheated on liquid diet

My diet plan includes 3 protein shakes, 1cup of creamy soup or broth, 1 light yogurt and SF FF drinks, jello, pudding or popsicles.
  24. The sheer value of food commercials is annoying. But then, if it's not a food commercial it's a dating commercial or for medication of some sort; all equally as annoying. Heck, in just this 4 minute commercial break I have watched: -Medical insurance, -Greek yogurt, -Toilet paper -Medication of some sort, -Hillshire Farm (2 commercials), -Granola bar, -Hotel commercial, -cheese commercial While food does not really seem appealing to my tummy right now, my head still thinks that pizza, ice cream, and (certain) cheeseburger commercials look yummy.
  25. The answer to this question really depends on where you are in the post op cycle. I'll give you my typical day from the 2 years post op view, but you may be looking for something more immediate. Not sure.... Breakfast - Protein oatmeal most mornings from bariwise, and of course coffee. OR iced caramel latte (small) with skim milk and sugar free syrup (but not both the oatmeal and the latte....that would be way too many carbs) Nothing between breakfast and lunch Lunch - Usually a version of a salad with grilled chicken, maybe a hard boiled egg chopped up with it for extra protein,, and a fat free dressing. I always eat the chicken off first and then have just a little room for salad after that. Something else that I like, depending on whether our cafe at work is open or not, is a scoop of chicken salad, a tiny salad, and 2 saltine crackers to scoop the chicken salad up with. Afternoon - I usually have a snack of some sort - either a snack sized protein shake, a greek yogurt, a fat free cheese stick, peanuts, etc. dinner - Usually whatever I make for my family, just in smaller portion and I eat the protein part of the meal first. If they are having Pasta, I avoid that altogether (or pizza) and saute up some shrimp with lite soy sauce. That's a quick and easy go-to single serving meal for me. I throw in a few pieces of frozen broccoli and it's delicious. Evening Snack - I try to avoid this altogether, but sometimes my family is snacking and I just can't resist. I keep sugar free popsicles, protein pudding from bariwise, peanuts, fat-free cheese stick, or sugar free Jello on hand for these kinds of cravings.
