Hi viictoriiaa. I am in the process of losing weight too. I don't have to lose nearly as much as you but I will share what I am doing... my Dr only asked me to lose 6 lbs to show I am able to change my eating habits. However, I am 2 months in and have just now started to lose. The first month I gained 2 lbs. I had been telling myself 6 lbs was nothing and that I only had to change little things like eat slower, and less. Boy was I wrong. This month after dragging my feet for the first week I started drinking Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch and continue to eat a normal dinner. I find if I know ahead of time that is my lunch and dinner somehow it makes my day easier. If I get hungry I will eat a pickle or some olives, or a slice of lunch meat, tomatoes or even a small salad. It's hard some days, but I found a a shake I really like. I really drink a lot of Water too. I make sure I get at least 64 oz. I often tell myself "food is only fuel". It does help but it's not easy. I believe it's preparing me for life after surgery, at least that's what I hope. If you do lose your weight in the 3 months we might be having our surgery around the same time! Good luck. You got this.

Horrible taste
AZDesertRose76 replied to AuntieLala83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Colds can definitely hose up your senses of taste and smell. I haven't noticed this yet myself, but a lot of the people in my bariatric support group have mentioned their tastes in food changing after surgery, so that might also be a culprit. Is it a metallic taste in your mouth? That could be a result of being in ketosis, which is generally good for weight loss but does leave a funky taste in one's mouth. I hope you get over the cold soon. Best wishes! -
Ok well im officially under 500 lbs now. Day of surgery my weight was 486.... I felt incredible hearing that number.

I have to start my liquid diet now, even before I have a surgery date because I gained 3 pounds since April. I think mostly from quitting smoking. I have everything done, just an ultrasound because they found gallstones when they did my upper GI. I am really dreading it, but hopefully I can get through it. I am waiting my doctor is sending my paperwork to get approval from the ins company, BCBS of Mass. Does anyone have experience with being denied because of a weight gain? Even just 3 pounds? Dr. Didn't seem to be too concerned, but I have to go to the nutritionist to start my liquid diet now, even before getting a surgery date, who she said could be November!! Don't think I can last that long on a liquid diet!!!

The liquid diet is crazy difficult. I felt overwhelmed by sweets (shakes) and we even thought about what it would be like to have baked potato shakes! haha I remember reading on my paperwork if I gained more than 5lbs they would cancel. I thought that was awkward but I guess they have to start someplace. Hang in there

Hi Carole! I'm being banded on 12/17, and I'm also a SAHM of 3. Mine are 9, 6, and 2. I have about 80-90 lbs to lose, and have been battling weight issues since college. I'd love to follow your progress and keep in touch with you. Julie

I agree with ivoryangel. liquid diet was by far the most difficult part of my weight loss. However I found the hunger subsided more and more the longer I was on the liquid diet. First days are the hardest. I remember threatening my surgeon before I went under the knife, that f I was hungry when I woke up, he would pay. Needless to say I wasn't. I wasn't for a few days in fact. Good luck with your surgery twinderful. It will change your life and you won't regret it.

Even though I had surgery before you2/4/19... I lost 25 lbs between my March 21st check up and yesterday.. with a few days when the scale showed a gain here and there and a few stalls... do t beat yourself up!!! You got this !!! You are doing well..
-
So as most of you know I had me sleeve done 3-20-19. This was the best decision I made for myself. Since my surgery I have only lost 25 lbs. I have been doing everything they have asked, just can't lose it. I work out, get my protein and water. I'm not gaining just don't know what else to do. I'm so scary this will not work for me after I went through a year and a half working for it. The one day of the week that I don't go to the gym I feel guilty about it At first I was thinking this is a stall but come on I'm in week 9. I just don't know what to do anymore, hoping this wasn't a waste of time. Sent from my Moto E (4) using BariatricPal mobile app

I slowed down significantly in the 7th month after surgery. It turns out that I was very iron anemic. My journey has been to find the sweet spot of eating/exercising just enough but not too much. When I keep my iron levels up I still loose about 1-1/2 lbs per month 2 years out. I’m almost done loosing I think because it doesn’t take much effort to stay where I’m at currently, but I’d have to WORK to get and stay at a lower weight. It’s all about your sweet spot. Keep working your plan, there’s more losses coming, just slower, in fits and starts.

Just beginning the insurance battle for lap band.
TiffTom posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, I have IEHP Medical insurance and just found out that they will cover lap band surgery if they deem it to be medically necessary. I'm 28 year old 5' 7 and weigh 267lbs. My BMI is 40.3 and I have chronic high blood pressure, a pace maker and have had congestive heart failure. I have an appointment with my general practitioner this week and will begin Weight Watchers as my 6 months of medically supervised weight loss program. I really want to be approved and don't want to mess anything up. Can anyone who's been banded tell me more about the insurance approval process and if there's anything I can do to ensure I get approved? -
Absolutely! The more weight I lost, the healthier I ate, and the more activity I participate in the more energy I have.

Hi everybody, i had my sleeve surgery last week (09/06). It thankfully went perfectly and no hassles except what was to be expected. I am losing weight, but have a small concern. Until two or three days ago when I was on clear liquid diet and stomach was healing and swollen, I could barely swallow and keep up with the dietary needs. But last couple of days, I feel that I can drink a decent quantity of full liquids without any problems. E.g. I can down a 32 oz ninja blender cup of Protein smoothie over about one hour easily. One week out of surgery is that normal. I am not going to get cocky and indulge in real food for the next 4 weeks as my surgeon told me to, but is there anyone who had the same experience. I mean being able to down a 24 to 32 oz protein smoothie over one hour and take big sips, one week out of surgery. Thanks and please share. Jilani

Bypass. Just my opinion, but statistically bypass better helps resolve the diabetes and other systemic issues. It also helps you lose more weight faster. If weight was the only factor, VSG would be a good choice, but with the comorbidities, I'd opt for bypass, which is exactly what I'm doing.

At the beginning the only thing I was able to do was a recumbent elliptical at the YMCA. I could not even do 20 minutes on the treadmill due to such horrible knee pain. I lived on Advil. As the weight came off I was diligent about increasing my exercise. My first class was Body Pump at the YMCA. This is a weight lifting class. I started with 2.5 lb weights, I now lift 20 pounds. I still do this class once or twice a week. Now I also do a Turbo Kick class and my favorite is Zumba, both of which I do twice a week. I also walk everyday at lunch, about a two mile walk in about 45 minutes. One thing that really worked for me was to increase my exercise whenever my weight loss began to stall. Believe me, I am nobody special. If I can do this so can you! Keep moving forward, it really is worth it! Carol

I wanted VSG, but my surgeon strongly suggested the band. He does all surgeries, but he tries to match the patient to the safest procedure. I had the band, and so far no problems. I wish the weight would come off faster; but for elective surgeries many surgeons prefer to be cautious. Good luck, all of WLS seem to yield good results.

That's a lot of weight gain! Hopefully, as everyone's life gets back to normal they can lose it.

Othello, your concern is valid. I stalled for 3 weeks at the same weight. I was so upset to get on the scale and see it hadn't changed. I cried, because it wasnt moving. I'm now losing slow, but have lost 14 more lbs since then. Dont feel afraid to say you are concerned! Best to you!

shrinking pains?
FrankyG replied to crazyplantlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your back and abdomen muscles have been working hard holding up you as a fat person and your keeping your center of gravity stable. As you lose weight in a faster manner due to the surgery, your center of gravity is going to shift, and your back muscles and alternatively abdomen muscles may been stressed out from the adjusted weight differences and posture changes. This is also one of the reasons you might experience losing balance much more easily; you're used to carrying much heavier weight, so you can overestimate how much effort you need to stand up, sit, walk... basically your core muscles are going to likely be in serious misalignment due to the fact that they'd been used to one or the other set doing the heavy lifting while you moved. -
Complications
winning_by_losing replied to MBM1Forever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Not to take away from the original post, but my program considers bariatric surgery elective as do those from everyone I've spoken to about it at both of the support groups I attend. Regardless of the classification, my insurance covered part of the cost, though I had to pay a great deal out of pocket. All of that said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat, regardless of cost. After getting to the point I am so far (still 19 pounds from my goal) I've been given a new lease on life and even if I were forced to pay hundreds of thousands (instead of just tens) I'd do it again without question. It took me a little longer than SugarFreeMe to get from Obese to Overweight, but then again I started my journey at almost double her weight. I'll never get into the "healthy" category according to the BMI calculators, but without a doubt I definitely feel and act healthy. I'm now able to do many physical things I would never have been able to dream of the last 15 years. -
Hey all, I've spent the past 12 months reading blogs and posts in preparation for my own sleeve surgery. It's been an intetesting time and I've taken in a lot. This is my first contribution. I'd love it to be funny and lighthearted but its a kinda dull past, but the future looks so much brighter. I've struggled with my weight since teen years. It's felt like my life has been one seesaw between gaining and losing weight. Try as hard as I can to play the "it doesn't bother me" part, but of course it does. Always slightly out of place and awkward. I'm 47 and making changes. Look out! My start weight was 135kgs. I was sleeved on 4 March by Dr Ramsay in Coffs Harbour Australia. I did a two week pre op optifast diet (punishment for years of personsl health offence) and lost 7kgs - good start, and have lost another 8kgs since my surgery - woohoo still smiling . I learnt very quickly that nearly everyone on the forums are supportive and informative and there are many of us. Although we share common experiences, we're all on our own journey and shouldn't compare or be negatively affected by what others have to say. I've been lucky and had an easy recovery but feel that the hard work is still ahead. For now I feel no hunger and can resist temptations without the mental anguish. How great would it be to have that for the rest of my life. And then to get to the point where I love exercise (I've been told it can happen??). I can only hope in another 12 months time I am able to post that I'm still smiling, getting near my goal weight and it's been an easy year. So glad I'm on this ride. Wishing a safe, happy and successful journey to all.
