I am 7 months post gastric sleeve surgery. I have stopped losing weight. Can I take Victoza for help with weight loss as a way to boost my system into losing more weight? Is it safe to take after having the surgery? I really need some answers and would appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

Oh wow! Ok, I’ll search that. Totally through me off this morning in a panic when I saw my weight had gone up ugggh!! So much to learn here. Thank you! What’s your take on the calorie amount though? Am I where I should be?

Thank you for your reply! Yes, since weight has been a focal point in my life, I’ve been weighing myself daily on every single plan I’ve ever done, from HCG, to Keto etc. I started my current journey many months ago when I was going through the 6 month approval process. I weigh myself each morning, naked…after using the bathroom and before consuming anything to eat or drink. I was completely baffled when it said 226.6 this morning when the last two days it has said a solid 225. Im going to have faith this is just for today lol! The only thing I changed is I added some more calories thinking that would help break the 225 stall. The only other thing that has changed is that for the last few days, I’ve went for 20-30 min walks.

I found this article an interesting explanation of the three week stall. https://www.sagebariatric.com/what-you-can-do-about-weight-loss-stalls/ -
three-week stall. Almost all of us go through our first major stall with the first 4-6 weeks after surgery (we call it the three week stall because it's USUALLY the third week, although not always). If you do a search on this site of the three week stall, you will find about 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding!). Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale for a few days - and know that it'll break and you'll be on your way again. btw - that uptick in weight is almost certainly due to water retention or you have more in your bowels than you did the last time you weighed. There's no way you could gain true weight eating 600 calories. As others have said, fluctations of a couple of pounds are normal. If they play with your head too much, then just start weighing once a week instead of daily.

It happened- I got canceled
chunkarella replied to Tinyhounds's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm sorry to hear this. This happened to me last year. I was like 3 days or so out from my appointment and it was cancelled because of covid and then again because they wanted clearance from a cardiologist before they put me under anesthesia. It's so heartbreaking. I gained weight back and then it was almost cancelled again because it was much higher than my starting weight. If i was any more than 10 lbs over my initial weigh in, they'd cancel it the day of... like someone stated earlier, use this for fuel. Use this time to try to work on and hone your post-surgery skills. I hope this all works out for you! -

Oh and to add… you’re likely in the infamous three week stall. It’s very typical, doesn’t always happen at exactly three weeks but most people experience it to one degree or another. You’re probably losing fat but your body is adjusting to the new food intake and is storing water again as your glycogen levels rise. Here is a great read on that topic: https://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-plateau/ -

Water alone will make your weight fluctuate quite a bit. You should be drinking (at a minimum) four pounds of water a day so that could be the reason for the scale issue. If you’re going to weigh daily (personal choice on whether you can handle the ups and downs) I suggest doing it at the same time and under the same conditions each day. For instance I do weigh daily (always have even before surgery)…. I weigh naked in the morning after my coffee and after my poop/pee. My coffee alone is 0.75lbs so you can see that one small change in pattern will affect it. I only poop every few days (I give it the ol’ college try every day) and I can lose two pounds just from that. Basically what I’m saying is if you weigh daily you are going to have fluctuations that aren’t really related to how much weight you are honestly losing. Stick with the plan, trust the process, and be as consistent as possible with your weigh ins if doing it daily. -
Unless you bumped it up by like 3500 extra calories you did not really gain a pound in a day. Small fluctuations happen on the scale. In a little time it will go back down, probably that pound plus another. That’s how it seems to work for me.

Like catwoman I had lots of excess skin after 140lbs weight loss. It was hide able in clothes, not so much out of clothes. I had surgery to have it removed from my abdomen and arms, and will have my thighs done next year. Even if I couldn’t have had plastic surgery the weight loss was worth it. I’d take loose skin any day over those 140lbs.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
ShoppGirl replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was worried I would lose too much on the pre op as well and I called my surgery center and they said that it’s designed to make you lose weight and that insurance goes by the weight at your last appointment with the surgeon. I would double check that your policy is the same but I bet it’s fine to lose weight at this point if you’ve already had that last appointment. -
What’s your revision story? Was your revision as effective as your first surgery?
JEANMR1 replied to Thisisgonnabegreat!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So far I have had good luck in revision due to weight gain. starting weight for sleeve 254 3 months out 204.5 weight loss of 50.5 ——————————— starting weight for bypass 245.5 3 months out I weigh 199 today (wooo!) weight loss 46.5 So the weight loss has been about the same but it has felt easier. I’m very glad I did the second surgery. -
WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
Mari6985m replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got my surgery on August 4th. My doctor was very happy I lost 14 pounds in the prior 2 weeks. Once you have your insurance approval, your all set..don’t worry…they want us to lose the weight at the end..it helps with shrinking the liver for surgery and helps us with our new lifestyle. It helped me so much and now I’m 21 pounds down since July 19th. Keep up the good work!! -
Revision for regain
JEANMR1 replied to charley27's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had revision due to weight gain a few months ago. I went from a sleeve to bypass. It was covered by my insurance but I still had to go through all the normal hoops to get to it. By the way it’s going very well and I’m happy I’ve done it -
I Hi All! I had surgery on July 15 so I’m just about a month out. I’m panicking because I started out at 250 before my 2 week preop diet. During my preop diet I lost 9 pounds. I went into surgery at 241 pounds. I’m now almost a month later 226 pounds. For the last week it’s been at 225 and today it jumped to 226.6. Last night I had about 600 calories…previously it’s been between 350-500. I decided to jump it up some to see if I could get over my stall and I gained!! Ugggggh…what am I doing wrong? I got this surgery to better my health and to lose weight of course and I feel Im on an up and down cycle again. Please help with advice. I figured adding more calories would help with weight loss…guess my body said nope! Feeling a little defeated!

I know when I felt I stalled or slowed down, I made sure I was exercising, eating my protein, no snacks and drinking water. You did not gain the weight over night and slow progress with get you to your goal. I think you are doing wonderful.👍

July 2021 Surgery People!
Monique1123 replied to Sammys_VSG_Evolution's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yup, it's normal. The same thing happened to me around the 2-week mark after losing 25 lbs (Surgery was on 7/14/21). After that my scale stayed the same for almost 2 weeks :-( However, I got approved to start working out and lifting under 20 pounds and I noticed that it broke my stall. Only by a few pounds but anything is better than nothing! I also made a post on another FB support group super frustrated at the time and thinking that I was doing something wrong and many people stated this was a normal part of their journey and usually after this stall and our bodies are fully healed then the weight should start slowly melting off. I'm excited about that part lol, good luck! -
I lost over 200 lbs and had a TON of excess skin. I've since had it removed. It was easy to hide in clothes so no one knew it was there except for me and my husband, but I didn't like the way I looked naked or the way it slapped up against me when I exercised. and no - it is NOT worse than weight loss. I would have taken that loose skin any day of the week over weighing almost 400 lbs again. ANY DAY. here is a picture of me BEFORE I had the skin removed. Do you see it? Nope - easily hidden in the right clothes (long-ish slightly oversized shirt to cover the abdomenal skin, 3/4 length (or longer) sleeves to cover the batwing arms, and a very supportive bra). and no, you are not too old. I am in my 60s.

RNY revision to duodenal switch. I'm a little nervous. I've started this journey in March so I'm ready. I hope to post updates as time goes on. I know God is with me and i feel very positive that this time i will make it to goal weight and keep it off. When i had my original bypass almost 15 yrs. ago, i didn't have as much guidance or knowledge that i do now. Much has changed over the years and I'm so ready. Is anyone else having your revision tomorrow or very soon. I'm here for anyone who wants to chat or vent or contemplating getting a revision done. My best to all of you. God Bless!

RNY revision to Duodenal Switch
kcoffey60 replied to kcoffey60's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi ChocoSnowBunny, First, so sorry to hear you had cancer, I can't even imagine how devastating that can be and praying you never have to go through that again. Second, I'm so glad you went for another opinion. My surgeon told me not to be hard on myself because of gaining weight back because it was the surgery that failed not the other way around. Patients with a very high BMI that have the gastric bypass, will most likely gain half or all weight back because it's not the right surgery but back in 2006, even though the duodenal switch was being done, it wasn't as popular as the gastric bypass. I researched this and my doctor was right. My BMI was 55 back then. Don't be hard on yourself anymore and there is nothing wrong with you. I hope you get your appointment soon. My best to you and I'm excited to hear about your journey also. -
Anyone who has lost a significant amount of weight is going to have at least SOME excess skin. The amount a person has depends on a bunch of different things such as your age (the elasticity of your skin tends to be better the younger you are and thus you're more likely to have less excess skin the younger you are), how long you've been obese, the amount you exercise/your exercise routine, the amount of weight you actually lose, etc. For me, I'm disabled, 34, and had been obese for 20+ years so after losing 210 pounds I have quite a lot of excess skin. However, I'd rather have that excess skin then the fat. I can easily hide the skin beneath clothes, so while I know it's there, everyone else doesn't. In the end, the choice for surgery is very much a personal choice. Just weigh the pro's and con's and do your research. Whatever choice you make is one that you're making for YOU, so make sure it's something that makes you happy.

Hi everyone, I'm from Birmingham UK. I haven't had any surgery yet, just thinking about it but I was wondering if anyone has a problem with excess skin after a huge weight loss? Is it very noticeable? Is it worse than being over weight? Also, I'm 70 in April 2022, am I too old or vain for such a procedure?

Discomfort when eating or drinking.
PrincessPeach replied to SarahMae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lucylovesnormal if you’re not taking small sips to slow your rate of Water intake, I’d guess that’s a very likely cause of your stomach pains. A gulp of Water hitting your stomach, especially if you’re not careful to eliminate swallowing air, is likely to be too much and cause discomfort. By stretching your stomach out, as it empties your hunger feeling can be more intense as well. Just because you “can” drink water fine, doesn’t mean you should. Plus drinking and eating slower makes it less torturous because you can do it constantly for like 40mins per meal. Btw I don’t understand you wanting to eat half as much as you did before… you had around 80% of your stomach removed… I don’t know your personal situation but halving your diet is unlikely to be enough to maintain a healthy weight. With this type of surgery our metabolism slows and that means we will forever need to eat significantly less that “normal people” to maintain an identical weight as someone who hasn’t undergone surgery. Your surgical team should have hopefully explained all this -
15-year-old with a BMI about 40. ESG
PrincessPeach replied to Jon1rene's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Have you considered other options like the gastric balloon maybe? It’s a temporary change of up to six months and could be a good way to test his personal resolve and commitment to changing his eating habits without surgery. Plus he’ll lose some weight, which might be enough motivation for him to live a healthier lifestyle -
