Hope your day goes well. I've got water weight issues too. Just not wanting to drink enough to get what I need right now. Wish we'd get some rain. We need it! I'm glad I'm not the only one that gains when sick. And 3lbs isn't much. You'll take care of that in no time. Actually I think it might still be water weight gain from going of the BP med. I never got rid of that before I got sick. I sleep better when DH is home too. Not as much pressure I guess. I wake up a lot when he's gone. No wonder I'm tired all the time! My rings are tight too. New jeans tho, are a little loose. Go figure! Have fun at lunch. The cleaning can wait. Mine always does! LOL! ~~~~~ Well, 1PM west coast time, tomorrow, I'm getting my hair all cut off! He called me this AM and he had an opening so I took it! Was starting to feel a little better yesterday but woke up this AM feeling horrid again! UGH! I'm supposed to go to the city Thursday for an ultrasound and a fill but I'm thinking of rescheduling everything for the following week, if I can. I'll wait and see how I fell tomorrow. I AM getting my hair cut tho, no matter how bad I feel! LOL!! I haven't told anyone I'm doing it. Oh DH and DD know but that's it! I'm going to have DH take a couple of before pics and then after pics when I get home! If I'm brave enough (I've been leery about posting pics here) and can figure out how to do it, I'll maybe post a couple so you can see too. Need to go. DD needs a snack! BBL.

Jenn-macy has the same project to do with that turkey! Cindy- ICE CREAM.....seriously my downfall. I can attribute my 60 pounds weight gain to BlueBell. I have converted to SF. Shrinking Violets Part 4

Judy-have fun this weekend :tt2: Kat-beautiful baby boy  Love his name too. Jenn-I am so proud of how well you are doing...I really am so happy for you. It gives me renewed hope in myself, thank you! Jane-sorry i missed your call. Call me again when you have time. Terry-I hear you on the falling off the wagon. Sorry for what you are going through. Suzie-an electric blanket? I can not even wrap my head around the idea of one of those right now! lol Guess what everyone...for about 6 hours today I am going to be without any kids!!! How cool is that? The only thing on the agenda is to go buy toilet paper  Monday I go to the ob/gyn for my yearly visit and I love my dr so much and the thought of his disappointment of my weight gain has me kind of down. But, he will be proud that I am still a non-smoker. I will just have to suck it up and tell him i will re-lose it. Have a great day everyone.

    Holiday Challenge!

168 today. Didn't meet my goal but am still super happy to be in the 160's. I am still down and made it through the holidays without a 10+ lbs weight gain like a typical year. Onward to the next challenge. A huge thank you to you Susan???? for running these. These challenges are a huge motivator to stay on track for me ????

    January Surgery Bandsters Group

Hi All! I spent the day yesterday with DH at a medical procedure. Yay! I ate okay, but did not get a work out in yesterday. I was going to get up this morning to work out but just didn't. So I will do something tonight, for sure. We may go to the beach this weekend- it's supposed to rain, but there's a reptile thing at the convention center in Myrtle Beach that dd (7) would love. Not sure if DH will be up to it, so it's up in the air. Sigh. I had a really bad stuck episode at dinner on Monday- really dry fish, I was bad for a good half an hour and pb'ed/slimed like never before. Ick. But then yesterday I ate a grilled chicken sandwich (no bun) and fries, no problem (the hospital cafeteria)- but boy did I take small bites and chewed like crazy. I am up 1 lb, but for the past 2 weeks still down 4.5 lbs, so it's all good. I feel bad for not exercising, but I figure since I'm good MOST of the time I am NOT going to beat myself up for the little bit of time I don't quite make it. Savannah! That is awesome to have lost your vacation weight gain so quickly!! I agree, before LBS I would have kept that on, plus who knows how much! It is nice to be on vay-cay, but good to be back into a routine. And 35 lbs down in 6 months is awesome!!!!! Hi to everyone, I hate to miss a day posting because I get a lot from all of you, so post!! Nicki

Calling all vets- where are you

hello bariatric buds I wrote the above phrase on the previous page on January 29th - fast forward 2+ months..................... new day, new world! funny/sad how things can change. 8 months ago, i started Peritoneal Dialysis- done at night while i sleep, no problems through the procedure, sleep like a log!! (DH says i still snore LOL) dialysis causes a water "situation" . i am now 13.3 lbs over my GOAL of 130. I know its just water weight, but it is gradually effecting my clothes. Life is good - dialysis keeps me going - don't like the water weight gain. It's a trade off. I'm still cute as a button!!🤣 good health is all that its cracked up to be. 7+ years sleeved, I'm still standing!!☺️ kathy

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

What I say to people who think they have to be perfect to start running is don't wait, start now and do the best you can a little bit better each time. This response is not directed at you lessofmeismore, but your response prompted me to share. I do not tell too many folks, but I was afraid of running due to a long term foot injury that will never be fully repaired. You see, I got in a terrible car accident 3 years ago (other driver t boned me at 60 MPH at an intersection- they ran light) and broke my arms, legs and crushed all the bones in my left foot. I was just arriving at the airport to return the rental car before getting on the plane. Rushed to the ER and ended up flying home coach 3 days later to see a foot surgeon near Seattle. That, my friends, was the longest and most painful flight ever. My left foot was absurdly destroyed and it took 8 months before I could even walk on it again and a year of PT after that. I was just getting to where I could walk 1 mile without bad foot inflammation when I had VSG surgery july 2012. To this day my wife and I joke about my franken foot, named that way because of 2 very long scars spanning the top of the foot. The sad part is I just bought the treadmill before going on vacation. It was never used until 3 years later. Being disabled and off my feet for such a long time was the contributing factor to a large weight gain and mental depression. For the first 5 months post op, I was afraid of my treadmill (sat for 3 years since accident) and running in general because of the inflammation pain in my foot. I get a lot of inflammation from arthritis, especially when the barometric pressure changes. BTB finally motivated me indirectly with his c25k posts 3 months ago to put the fear aside and just do it. I am glad I did. Running has been not only beneficial to dropping weight, but also to really living life and mental health. VSG and running has made me into a completely new person; I enjoy life, food and people! I started out running a 5 k and was not meaning to at all. I had just wanted to get on the treadmill and see what it was all about. Needless to say, I have progressively worked on improving my 5k and 10 k times over the last couple months and feel pretty good about the progress. I am absolutely thrilled that some of the other runners have reached out to answer my questions about training, running shoes, clothes, what is best to eat before and after running, etc. I will definitely return the favor and help others who are just starting out their running. It is a great forum where we all help each other. So, long story short: Do not let fear stop you from trying something out physically. You may actually be quite good at it over time. Start slow and you will get better at it as our bodies are truly miraculous in their potential.

    October sleevers?

I've just started my liquid diet today. My surgery date is October 5th. I am at my highest weight at 225. I am 59 years old. Can’t stay like this much longer. I realize that I have to make some serious changes in my life. I’ve decided to write a sort of journal of my experience of going through this time in my life. I admit that I am somewhat scared and anxious but it is something that I want very much. I want to feel HEALTHY again. Just had my first shake. Not so bad. Probably won’t say that after a few days of these drinks. I’m nervous and I don’t know why. I realize that I have to do this for 2 weeks. Will I succeed? I will really try my best. To come this far. I must push myself like I never have before. I have all the co-morbidities that go with the weight gain such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, joint, back pain and sleep apnea. Very dangerous combination.

    May 2007 Banders

Hi all! Been quite a while since I've been on here... Was doing well with the weight loss... Even started running! Then I suffered a back injury... Had surgery 3.5 weeks ago. The back issue lead to depression which lead to more weight gain... And so on.... Hoping the surgery was a success so I can get back on the right track!
  11. I followed every rule pre and post-op and can't understand why people are/were so indisciplined that for a few weeks they couldn't be compliant. Isn't a lack of self control the reason we had surgery in the first place. Hey, if someone wants to cheat that is on them. I chose not. I did not have surgery to see the disappointed look on the faces of my family because for a few months I couldn't control myself and ate the same things that made me morbidly obese. I need to have healthy eating and a lifestyle become a habit before I sabotage myself. Will I have a little something unhealthy in the future maybe or maybe not. The sleeve as I have heard continuously is a tool to help us get on track, not something to be ignored and pushed to the side as we decide. For all of those with no self control, think of it this way. Would you break and arm again after it has healed because you couldn't control yourself? I will not deprive myself of going our socially with friends or family, but I will make smart choices each time. I have cooked things my family wanted like fried chicken and pork chops. I have made cookies with my family after being sleeved. However, not once did I even take a bite. I have helped my wife in the bakery she owns, but did not sample like I did in the past. Remember significant weight gain can be in the future of all who don't practice sound judgement and self control.

    Questions for Alcohol Drinkers ONLY!

I had a toast (just a sip of champagne) 2 months after surgery. About 3 months out, I started having a glass of wine every now and then. It's never had any adverse affects on me at all, I didn't get "tipsy" as quickly as some, it was pretty much like it was before surgery. I may have 1 glass of wine a couple of times a month............ so no weight gain because of it, no problems at all

    January Bandsters???

Congrats on your new baby! Thats is exciting! Also, don't stress of the weight gain, I know that if you are taking meds it can cause a slight water gain. So, take care of yourself and doctor your cold!

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I was on metformin at one time, but it made me violently sick and passed out several times while on it, so I'll never agree to be put on it again. It also caused an issue with my pancreas (already had an issue, but it enflamed it?) I can't do keto/low carb because I literally stop losing weight, but my diet is mostly protein/veg with a little bit of sweet potato or a couple of tbsp of quinoa or brown jasmine rice, depends on the meal. I've noticed the 2 weeks I was below 35g carbs after surgery I not only had issues with low blood sugar, but I also didn't lose any weight during that time. I was low carb for years and never lost weight, no one can really explain why since my blood work does show insulin resistance. I don't take any medicine for hashimotos. Many people with hashimotos thyroiditis get put on thyroid medicine. I was on Leothyronine (NP thyroid did not work for me, caused major weight gain), but since surgery we've done the labs 3xs and my provider said not to take it and we will re-test in 90 days unless my weight loss stops completely. Hopefully that means I won't need it at all in the future. I'm still AIP-ish in eating, which is what helps the most with hashis symptoms. Luckily, eggs don't cause a flareup and most fermented dairy doesn't either. However, milk-based products and casein does.
  15. I think I developed it with my first daughter as I have a lot of fluid retention throughout my body and just the sudden weight gain in the pregnancy yes I've been told that having the hernia repaired is going to change my life around I can't wait😁😁😁

We all hit bumps in the road - you acknowledged your slip so don't beat yourself up (weight gain is punishment enough!) get back to your plan and stay faithful!!! You got this
  19. What I've found with these surgeries is that after the initial rapid weight loss, the weight loss for most actually evens out to more 'average' rates of loss like with conventional diets. Mine wasn't fast by any means. I also found when my weight loss would stall, increasing calories would not only break the stall, but jump start my weight loss again. I did that periodically the first year until I was at 1200 calories and hit my goal weight. To maintain my weight, I then upped my calories to 1300. Doing that also helped set my metabolic thermostat so I wasn't stuck having to eat 800 calories for the rest of my life. I've said it before, but I really think these surgeries mess with our physiology. The 'ol "calories in/calories out" adage seems to go out the window, and most of the time in the losing phase INCREASING calories is the key to steady, healthier weight loss. Once our metabolism adjusts, then things seem to go back to normal when too many calories will result in weight gain. That being said, from the hundreds of posts I've seen and in my own experience, there is little to nothing we can do to prevent hair loss and most loose skin. Sure exercise, age, heredity etc has a lot to do with skin elasticity, but once certain areas are stretched out, there's just no going back without surgery. And hair loss is truly the luck of the draw.

    January Bandsters???

Marjon and Audree (and anyone else), you really *need* to stop this. Here is why...any type of rapid weight gain causes your liver to enlarge. Your surgeon has to *pick up* your liver and move it out of the way in order to reach the stomach to place the band. There HAVE been cases where a surgeon refuses to do surgery because of weight gain and/or during the procedure, decide that the liver is too unhealthy to continue. So in a very real way, you're putting getting banded at risk...and I don't think anyone wants to do that. I did a very small amount of last supper eating prior to banding. I did not have a pre-op diet at all. Mainly, I ate a few more things here and there that I knew wouldn't work well with a band...such as pizza. But I also knew that getting banded does NOT mean never eating these foods again. I've had pizza since banding...and doughnuts...and cake...and pasta...rice...bread...can you tell I'm not a "perfect" bandster? But I had those things early in my banding. NOT during the 6 weeks of healing, but at various times before fills or when my band was particularly loose. So if you stop thinking that this is the last time you'll eat "X," then you won't feel so desperate to eat it all now. You also know that you're not doing yourself any favors by having more weight to lose. If you need guidelines, then tell yourself that you're going to practice eating like a bandster now. Put small portions of protein and produce on your plate, take very small bites, and eat very slowly. If you do that and you're still hungry, then get more protein and produce...but better yet, get up from the table and take a walk. I really DO know how you're feeling. I struggled with the same things this time last year. I remember telling myself that *this* week I'd give up sweet tea...and then it was the next...and the next. I never did make any serious dietary changes pre-banding...but I also didn't go crazy in the other direction either. Cindy

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I take opioids too. I have 5 bulging discs and have had back pain my whole adult life. I literally can not bend even a little without holding on to something. It's very debilitating. I thought it would get better with weightloss and I could get off the pain meds but no such luck. In my experience I think they contributed to my weight gain. Right now I'm dealing with struggling to stay on track. I've dabbled a little in forbidden foods, but not excessively. Last night for the first time I ate 4 cookies and it had 280 calories. I don't know what I was thinking. I have 85 pounds to lose and it is such a struggle now that I can eat more. Wishing you the best!

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I’ll be honest I was confused when I look at these two pictures because I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to be looking for in the first picture. You look so different!!! I know you’re frustrated but maybe it is some muscle weight gain? You look great!
  24. Maybe you just didn't recognize MB? How old is she now? She probably has more wrinkles than me, even! hahahaha! Wooohoooo and we all know you Ken is anatomically correct!!!! Bonus! And speaking of Ken, how is that whole "thang" goin? What's the latest and greatest news? Anything? ((hugs)) Boobs as the price of magic. But so glad Santa is bringing you a couple of "whole new bags" ! What a Christmas pressie! Right? And I think your weight really looks beautiful on your body. You have a gorgeous figure. And you know, down the road if regain "does happen to us all" that you would likely settle around 140ish pounds. So this may not be your forever body--but as a temp, it's a smokin' hot one. Right? And yes, you know, I really don't know where I would be without you guys! This journey would have been filled with uncertainty, unknown, loneliness from lack of commonality, and ungrounded. This forum shows me that there is hope in Veteranville--that it is possible to maintain this weight longterm and that weight gain doesn't "arbitrarily" happen for the most part. It is almost 100% caused by some level of recidivism in our choices. But with tight observance of our weight/diet and having a weight window, any little mishaps can be dealt with at the 2-5lb range. I think you said, "Never again spending a year on weight loss?" Or maybe it was @Biddy zz 🏳️🌈 who said that? But it resonates with me and keeps it in perspective. And I wouldn't have it if it wasn't for this forum!!! So glad your business meetings/dinings are going easier for you and that you are still in solid maintenance because of it!!! When you say 4oz of semi solid food, is that volume or scale measurement? And I'm assuming 3oz solid protein is by scale? You know me...always trying to make sure I don't have a football sized pouch! Cheers to your diet soda. I thought about you yesterday. We were out at the park all day at a festival and I had 2 Mich Ultras for the day. I raised a bottle to you. Did you see me? *snort*
  25. I started IF cuz I'm a follower of @GreenTealael and @sillykitty hehe. Seriously though, I used to do IF a long time ago and it helped my insulin resistance tremendously and helped me lose weight in addition to my low carb lifestyle. FF to today and even though I've had surgery and am losing, every pound lost is hard won. I was eating between 600-800 (about) and if I went up closer to 800/day for an extended period, I either stalled or gained. I also know my insulin is still higher than I'm comfortable with. I am on a wonderful anti-cancer drug that shuts down my hormones and puts me in super menopause. It works, but the side effect is no hormones and weight gain. So I decided to try IF again. I do know of the great metabolic and health benefits of IF from reading many books/studies about the subject. But even more importantly, I've experienced these improved health benefits in myself: improved asthma, better/deeper uninterrupted sleep, less pain/inflammation and fewer lymphedema events, lower bp, lower A1c, lower bgs, weight loss. And in the past couple of years it has gained momentum and popularity. I want to have days where I can eat 1200 calories without gaining 2-6lbs! I want to have days where I can eat 1200 cals and not stall. I want to speed up my loses. Recently I've gone down to losing about 4-6lbs per month. That makes weight loss very difficult for me from a compliance stand point because one meal could conceivably wipe out an entire month of effort and so it really reduces my motivation levels! So I just chose to go back to the kind of IF I'm used to doing and that is Dr. Johnson's regimine of alternating DDs and UDs. Edited to Add: I weight daily--sometimes thrice daily. hehe. I was crazy long before I started this practice, but it keeps me honest. I am recording my weight here weekly on Mondays cuz it's gonna happen that the day after an UD I will be up on the scale and the day after a DD, I will or should usually be down or the same...
