    day 7 on optifast

I was on Optifast for 3 weeks and lost about 25lbs. I was able to eat a few veggies but those got old very quickly! You don't want to weigh yourself very often either as you may get discouraged if and when you don't see much weight coming off. Good luck to both of you. This is just the beginning...!

    FRUSTRATED

I meant 5 per week! Sorry. So 25 a month. I know what you're saying. It's just frustrating because I think that in the beginning weight loss will be much quicker than later on...
  4. Before I had my surgery, I was a type 2 diabetic. I had lost 35 lbs and was really watching what I ate, cutting portions, and doing a sugarfree/low carb type diet. I had improvement in my numbers from my new lifestyle and eating, but still kinda high and still Diabetic. I got off my meds to have my surgery, and never had to go back on my Metformin post-op. I was VERY happy about this! I believe these two articles discuss how VSG resolves Type 2 Diabetes as well as RNY and not just because of the weight loss factor. There are probably other articles, I just happened to bookmark these. Good luck!! http://agajournals.wordpress.com/2011/09/08/bariatric-surgery-more-than-expected/ http://www.liebertonline.com/doi/abs/10.1089/dia.2011.0151

wording to use for CIGNA approval

I am in Delaware with Cigna OAP. Through my surgi center we have to: required WLS seminar surgical consultation GI endoscopy w/ surgeon Psych consult (she required me to start weekly sessions with a therapist and see a nutritionist 1 on 1 before she cleared me) Cardiologist consult (EKG and Echo) Pulmonologist consult for a pulmonary function test (I also had to have a sleep study as I never had one before) 3 months of nutrition classes through the joint Weight Loss Institute's program (to satisfy cigna's requirement) 3 life skills classes about the sleeve Blood work Medical clearance with endocrinologist (CLEARED! YAY) Endo submits case findings back to Surgeon's office. Surgeon's insurance case manager creates/compiles case to send to insurance company (ANXIOUSLY AWAITING AN ANSWER FROM CIGNA UGH) Then... Surgical clearance 2 weeks opti-fast I am so afraid I will be denied. My surgeon's office (Christiana Institute of Advanced Surgery) works exclusively with Eugene Dupont Preventative Medicine and Rehab institute. That's where they send you for the visits with the endo, nurse practitioner, psychologist, nutritionist one on one, nutrition classes and life skills classes. So everything stays in one place and is worked on by the same people. I am hoping that will help me get approval. If I have to wait any longer for Cigna to approve me I may explode.

wording to use for CIGNA approval

I truly understand I was trying to do a surgery before and was not able to do so my weight gain is not up significant amounts but it is not going down.. My PCP is working with me ???????? I saw him today as well as my dietitian I have to do the 3 month prep.. I have always thought that we r supposed to be practicing preventive medicine so I feel that the surgery is just that PREVENTIVE Medicine.. GOOD LUCK

    2 yr weight history

So what did you have to do to satisfy the 2 year weight requirement ?
  8. So my advocate called today and said my insurance requires 2 years of weight history. I can only provide 1 year from the dr which is 2018 because I didn’t have a PCP in 2017. So she suggested that I write a letter and send pics explaining my reasons for wanting the surgery. So my question is has anyone submitted pics to the insurance for your 2 weight history? What was your your outcome if you did ?
  9. Hi tct, Kelly and I were sleeved same time. One thing you really should do is start journaling everything you eat. I use myfitnesspal.com, but there are several others. When i look at my intake, i can see patterns like not that many carbs, but most all of them sugars or not enough vitamins, etc. It really helps to see it in print, as it were. I was on glyburide, 2000 mg of metformin and victoza. I am off all now. You are doing great and about same weight loss as me. it will come off, we are all going to be hot mamas.

    Pain on my left side

I had some pain a couple months ago on my left side. Very sharp pains in the middle of the night , could not lay on my left side for about 3 weeks. They did ultrasound as well, could not find anything. But, at the same time I was struggling with a slight overfill, I had gotten a fill which brought me to 9.0 cc in a 10 cc band. I was sliming about everyday, no vomiting, at this point. It was not improving. I looked at my food diary and made a few changes, did not help. So I asked for a tad unfill, he did remove .4cc , brought me back to 8.6 cc I have been fine PAin disappeared. I think the pressure on my port or the tubing shifted around internally and caused that strange pain. I may have eaten a little too much and caused that pressure I have no idea... I have not gained anything or lost anything in the last 8 weeks. I am about 10 lbs from goal, so It may be awhile before he will give me a nother fill in the amount of .2 cc. such a small amt, we will see. Good luck in finding that pain.

Fist Time On The Scale Post-Op

Congrats! The portion of stomach they removed doesn't weight to much. The 9 lbs u lost is mostly all the IV fluids they pumped you full of. Lol. Wish you the best. ! •Highest Weight - 240 •Surgery Weight 8/3 -230 •Current Weight 8/31 -203

    Question for revisions

OMG...I feel a little bit better.I had my band removed and had the sleeve for the same reason.I was 150 pounds one month prior to my revision and gained 23 pounds in one month once the took out all my fluid. So my starting weight from the time i had the sleeve was 173.Had the surgery on Feb 3.Here is what im feeling though.I only lost 13 pounds and getting very disappointed.I just really thought i would have lost a little more weight then this.Any suggestions.Im Now at 161 and i im at a total stall for 2 weeks
  14. Because when I had revision back in 2012 my BMI was 62 now I believe is like 47 or something now, and he thinks because I've been at the same weight for 6 months my body may have lost all it could with the sleeve procedure... He told me to give it my all the next 3 months and if I still cannot break the stall then we may need to explore me revising to DS... I really dont want another procedure, but I've heard good things about the DS....but ultimately the only way I will get it is with insurance approval, I had to pay out of pocket for the revision to sleeve, I honestly cant afford another procedure... So, I am going to give it my all the next couple of months and pray I can break this stall, which is now 8 months and counting

    Gallstones

I think that they remove the gallbladder if the stones are bad enough or are recurring. I have heard many people say that gallstones can be a side effect of rapid massive weight loss. Good luck and congrats on your success
  16. Ontario... I can work with that. The biggest clinic in Ontario is the Surgical Weight Loss Centre in Mississauga and it has a very good reputation. It's probably your best bet because of its size. LAP-BAND®® Surgery Clinic | Weight Loss & Gastric Balloon in Toronto, Canada I go to CIBO in Toronto. Overall I give it a meh. I am not terribly disappointed but I'm not stunningly thrilled. LAP-BAND® Surgery Weight Loss Surgery Clinic Toronto | CIBO There are two other clinics in Toronto. Nobody I know has gone to the Yorkville one downtown and I haven't heard anything good about Slimband. Laparoscopic Band Surgery – (Gastric Band – Slimband) Again though, if you're just looking for fills you may have different priorities.

Do I Need A Lap Band Fill?

i think you should go as long as you can without a fill. Ask your doctor what he/she thinks but there are many people on this board who have lost a lot weight without a fill. I am not so lucky i have had 4 fills and i think i need one more tweak to get to the green zone Good luck and great job losing 24 pounds

    Quick Question

Welcome & you can lose as much weight as you want according to my surgeon.
  19. I'm new here and I like to introduce myself. My name is Andrea and I live in Switzerland. Today I had my first appointment with my Adipositas Doctor, he does all the testing. He told me that with my age (42) and my weight (360 lbs) most people can only drop about 150 lbs. Does anybody have any expiriance with that?

    plateau...

I had my WLS on 10/1/12 and to date have only lost 63#. I know I have eaten a few things I am not supposed to but have been back on track for a month now and still no weight loss. I haven't gained any but no weight loss is upsetting any ideas?
  21. I just had to share about my appointment yesterday!! Everything was good, good and good!! Doc was happy with my progress, and all my blood work came back great!! When they told me that my blood work showed NO signs at all of diabetes or being pre diabetic I started to cry. It came out of nowhere, but all I could think is I guess that worrying about getting diabetes bothered me so much more than I thought. My grandpa on my dad's side and my dad both got late on set diabetes so with my weight I just assumed I would get it at some point. It was such a relief to hear that now I will not. We also set up a date to have my ventral hernia removed from my lower right abdomen and I am so happy to be getting rid of that. Herman (as we refer to him in our house) needs to go, he was the reason I started this WLS journey and now with my weight loss so far he shows and is paining me more then ever. Good Riddance Herman!! Now onto my next goal of reaching 175lbs. Doc feels I should have no problem achieving this and so do I!! I attached a pic of me taken at my docs pre op appointment and one my hubby took me of my yesterday!!
  22. I felt the exact same way. I'm almost 4 weeks post op, and at the same point you are I was really discouraged. Especially when I was able to start puréed food (1 week post op). I felt the the tiny amount I was eating was keeping me from losing. But I stuck with it and my doctors instructions and the weight is coming off now. Good luck to you and hang in there it will get better soon!

    Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield Approval!!!

Thank you Valzie! I am going to press on with my surgery on Monday (July 2nd) and keep my faith that all will work out with Cigna. It's not about loosing the weight but it's about loosing the depression that is caused by the weight. Please keep me in your prayers as I seek to live a better life. I hope all is going well for you with your Quest to be happier and more self confident in life!

    Wow

I am loving my band. Never before have I been able to lose weight and KEEP it off! Thats the greatest thing! I'm at -70 pds now, down to 210. I feel SO much better. I'm thinking that i need to cut back on my BP meds cause i'm having lite headedness - have a call in to the dr to see about that. Anyway - thats much an update. :bounce:
  25. I did have to see a cardiologist, but that was because I have a heart murmer and aortic insufficiency - the valve in my heart leaks. It doesn't cause any big problems, yet, but they wanted to be sure. It made my anesthesiologist feel a lot better..... Plus, my cardiologist helped me get my approval by writing a letter of support for the procedure. He felt that a reduction in weight would put less stress on my heart, reduce my blood pressure, and alleviate some chest pain from the leaky valve. Which it has already. If you have any heart defects or problems, no matter how insignificant, I would see your cardiologist. They won't want any surprises in surgery....
