    Utter regret

that sucks you feel that way. This seems to be your first post. How about some background. Why did you decide on gastric sleeve? what seems to be the issue? First few weeks are the toughest after a major surgery and it takes time to heal so keep at it and it will get better. Did you end up traveling to have the surgery? did it not go well?
  3. I am pre-op and i wanted to ask someone is it normal to feel bloated because i have been feeling this way for about a week now I'm getting a little bit concerned because this has NEVER happened to me before, anyone have any thoughts or solutions to this I'd really appreciate it, thank you and have a great day. Post op necessities

I was allowed tea and coffee from the time I woke up. It would always go cold before I could drink it and I hate cold coffee so I bought a thermos cup. I had my sleeve done in the freezing cold English November. I was so cold all the time so I was glad of a extra duvet for the sofa. I wished I had a recliner chair because I couldn't sleep laying down for 3 weeks, had I known I would have bought one from a charity shop. I have little rice bowls that I used for soup, yogurt and instant porridge. My usual bowls would have been ridiculously large for the tiny amount I could eat in the first weeks. The only other things I bought were lip balm, gummy vitamins and soluble calcium. Good luck
  5. We eat out lunch at least 5 days a week. I just make good choices.
  6. Almost 8 yrs VSG and had severe GERD beforehand. It significantly decreased post op but I've remained on PPI medication the entire time. I was down to 1-2 total doses per week, however I had some regain over the last year and am up to THREE TIMES daily!! It's everything to do with how I carry my weight- all in my middle. While I was quite satisfied with the GERD being almost totally resolved initially, I'm fearful that even IF I lose the current regain it won't go away to the extend that it was in the past. I have been told by my bariatric team that a revision is likely the ONLY way to get the GERD to go away with 100% certainty. That sounds pretty good to me but I am quite fearful of surgery in general because I'm a nurse practitioner and we make terrible patients... I would love to know what the loss pattern was like for those who had the revision and can I plan to see awesome results? I mean, BESIDES the GERD clearing up? I am currently about 40 lbs about my ULTIMATE goal- I never reached that goal with my VSG, stopping about 12 lbs away from it...

    September Surgery Buddies!!

It’s weird. I’m hitting all these milestones now back to back to back. 2kg ago I officially left the “obesity” category of the bmi. Now I’m “just slightly overweight”. I’m 1kg away from being in Onderland, which is insane! 🥰 Then another kg and I’m in the 80 digit (89). Granted I’m cheating by combining metric and imperial weight system’s milestones 🙃 but for the longest time it felt like I was losing weight and losing weight and losing weight and “nothing changed”. I was still viewed as and considered morbidly obese, I felt it too and the clothes I wore were baggy but still okay. Now all of a sudden it’s going super fast and in 12kg I’ll be at the weight I havent been at since 6 years ago. At the beginning of this it felt so insanely daunting (145lb weight loss) and when my surgeon said he thinks I’ll get to somewhere in the 80s I thought he was crazy! I really thought I had “failed” surgery because there were so many stalls and I can eat quite a bit of food. Now I’m just really happy and excited about where this will continue to go, even if it slows down. I will now officially join a gym and get my butt moving again for the first time in 5 years! Kinda nervous. Kinda excited 😊 Sorry for the long post it’s just been on my mind!

Pre Op Liquid Diet starts tomorrow

It gets easier. After a few days your body adapts to fewer calories. My first pre op diet was the most difficult, the second one was easier. I'll let you know how the third goes in a few weeks, lol.

Yes.. 3 weeks sounds crazy to me too.. but if I dont do it.. no surgery.. its standard here in Canada.. most do Optifast.. my only concern is how its going to taste!.. lol.. not worried about the surgery.. I'm so ready for it!.. my weight has been up and down my whole life.. I can't seem to stay down.. so I need this.. my body needs this.. everything is starting to ache.. I also need a knee replacement too.. need to just stay positive..think of all the great things that comes from this.. for me its feeling better, live longer, do more things with my kids, not be the fattest one in the room, not worry about seating, and being able to buy clothing everywhere! I am a stay at home mom.. no need to worry about work.. I also don't drink coffee.. lol.. in fact, Canadas program starts by ween everyone off caffeine before surgery so it's not a problem after surgery.. need to be 2 months clean.. chocolate WAS my biggest hurdle.. but I'm ok now.. i think... lolol

How to Break a Stall (Step by Step instructions)

I have been in a stall for 8 weeks now I was hoping for some advise in this thread but found my smile instead 😀

I havent had surgery yet but one thing i do have in my shopping cart that i am going to buy here this week are those leg massagers that fill with air and massage your legs to prevent blood clots. They put them on you while in the hospital. Amazon has several choices. Gonna wear those for the first couple weeks after surgery while i am sitting or laying down.
  14. A comfortable recliner to sleep in, especially for the first weeks post-surgery (I'm a stomach/side sleeper, so it took a while for me to sleep comfortably on my bed). A sturdy cane was also helpful to me for the first week after surgery because it gave me something to push off on when going from seated to standing (like using the toilet). I seriously underestimated how sore my stomach would be after surgery.
  15. I concur with @lizonaplane. You can eat out, if you do it smart. 1. If you know where you are going to be eating (i.e. a friend is having a birthday party at Restaurant X on Friday), then study the menu in advance. Find the right meal for you. 2. If you are just coming off surgery and don't have a ton of stomach space, order something ala carte. About a month after my surgery, my wife and I went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast. I ordered a single scrambled egg and a small side dish of grits. Also, don't be afraid to order off the kids menu, especially if it is a restaurant that offers healthy kids options (like grilled chicken). 3. Always eat your protein first, followed by veggies. 4. Again, lizonaplane is right: make the substitutions work for you. If they charge extra for it, Tim Ferriss says that you should consider those charges as your Six Pack Tax (the tax you willingly pay to develop a six pack).
  16. Yes, you can't control what goes in your food when you eat in restaurants, but you can still GUESTIMATE your calories and track them in MyFitnessPal. No, it won't be as accurate as if you cook at home, but this has to be for the rest of our lives! It's not reasonable to expect us to never go out with friends, on dates, travel, etc. Stalls are a b***h. Drink your water, count calories so you know you're getting enough/not too much, and be patient!
  17. My doc told me the same thing. Don't eat out, cook at home. I think so I could control what goes in it?? How cute. I am alone, I work 40 hours a week, and do NOT feel like cooking and cleanup after. And often I get nauseous at smells, so the crock pot does not cut it. I do the best I can and right now, I am in a stall.....

    ONEderland!

How funny that you say that, Holly! I'm getting ready to go on vacation/trip, next week, and of course I had to go buy some new clothes and YES....I'm wearing XL now instead of XXL in Old Navy's shirts (I'm a fan of Old Navy). It's such a great feeling! Thank you for your kind words! ♥

    Post op necessities

I bought a ton of stuff, most of which I didn't use. I bought those little 2 oz disposable cups and didn't use a single one. Here is what I found helpful: 1. Use a salad plate instead of a huge dinner plate 2. I have some small (like 1 cup) freezer/dishwasher/microwave safe containers for portioning food into - many people swear by Souper cubes, but those are really expensive and don't seem very flexible when you have just one or two servings of something to freeze. 3. I sometimes use the toddler silverware, but it doesn't matter much 4. I use a regular glass, but I found that keeping a bottle of water with me on the couch right after surgery (right in my hand) really helped me drink more. I switched the bottles out every few hours so they would stay ice cold (some people prefer room temp liquids after surgery, but I needed iced cold) 5. Many people love sugar free ice pops, but it wasn't for me 6. Before you go in for surgery, clean your home, do your laundry and dishes, and get some protein drinks in the fridge. You won't be able to do these things easily for the first few days after surgery. Best of luck!
  20. humm I don't eat bread very often, and they do advise us to stay away from rice as it will fill you very quickly and has very little nutritional value. Try to eat more protein for example eat your chicken thigh first if you still have room veggies or salad next and rice last. processed foods are very easy to eat and I found don't fill me at all for example the other day I had a hotdog on 2 slices of toasted bread with grilled cheese I was able to eat all of it the pace I could pre surgery and felt I could have eaten more, but I didn't . Pasta is the same with me it doesn't always sit well. Don't listen to the people around you. I had a work mate say to me "oh for god sake will you eat something you are getting to skinny" well I still have a belly and have another 10kg to loose so don't listen. I did notice your BMI is low but you are a small build to going by your height. increase your protein that will help reduce muscle loss and help build it back up. Get in touch with your dietian if you had one if you don't have one look one up that has bariatric experience they should be able to help you with food choices etc . My Appetite was like yours at the start but once I hit 6 months my snacking urges kicked back in and I am currently having a hard time keeping that under check and I have put on a kilo this week and I have also been in a 6 week stall so that's dishearten for me. someone posted a youtube video from a bariatric dr advising against exercise in the first year of surgery but each to his own I guess depending on how much you exercise maybe give it a break until you feel better. Hope you do feel better soon.
  21. So, I see a lot of people and nutritionists and surgeons saying you must cook all your food at home and restaurant meals are terrible etc. Well, sure, in an ideal world you would be a gourmet health cook and have an extra three hours a day for meal prep and exercise, but that's just not reality. I travel 4-7 days a week for work, so I eat out almost every meal. I'm down 110 lbs total and 60 since surgery. Here are some suggestions for traveling/eating out: 1. Get a protein drink for breakfast, like Core Power, which can be bought at drug stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, and even some airports. This gets you a good chunk of your protein for not too many calories 2. Go to the grocery store when you can to buy things like deli meat, sugar free Greek yogurt, washed/chopped veggies and fruit, etc. 3. Watch those coffee drinks! I love me some Starbucks/Dunkin' but I limit it to just iced coffee with milk (2% if possible) and Splenda. No syrup, whipped cream, sugar, etc. I actually find that coffee and hot tea help keep me full. 4. Protein first: I've heard from lots of bariatric people that even years after surgery, if they start with low fat protein, their restriction kicks in and they can't eat too much. I try to order a protein forward meal, like grilled fish or shrimp. Sometimes I eat other kinds of meat, but I find I can't eat as much and I am more likely to get hungry later 5. Fill up on veggies. I have been hungry since right after surgery, but even if you lost your hunger, it will come back. Then, eat veggies with your protein. The fiber will keep you full. Salad is hard for me, but I still eat it because it just tastes so darn good 6. Figure out what your go-to restaurant meals are. These are things that you can get easily, like at chain restaurants. I like Chipotle bowls (no rice, beans, barbacoa, cheese, sour cream, and lettuce, with a bit of hot sauce), chili from just about anywhere, cheese burgers with no bun (I don't like the lettuce wraps; I just eat them with a fork and knife), etc. Ask for what you need. Want double veggies/no rice? Ask for it. You might get charged a dollar. If you feel like you will eat the carb if it's put on your plate, ask for them not to bring it. You're the customer. Be nice, but you're allowed to have the meal work for you. And tip well! 7. Don't try to be perfect. Just aim for doing a good job 80-90% of the time. I eat occasional sweets, but small amounts and not every day. The other day I ate a biscuit with JAM!!!

Yikes 3 weeks is a long time. That will be difficult I’m sure. Do they give you a discount for the prescription on your Optifast ? It sounds expensive ! I was curious.. lol… I went and read about the Optifast. That sounds like a really good product.

    Eating too much?

Thank you so much. I feel better reading this. I feel like it was from me eating too fast and too much. For two weeks, I’ve just “sipped”. My “meals” take about 2 hours to finish. I got carried away today.

Thank you🤗 I’m hoping that this is the week I hear something! I only started thinking about this is January so it hasn’t really been that long, but I am so ready to GO! You sound very disciplined! Good for you! The waiting is easier to handle during the week because I’m at school. I AM concerned that Cigna might ding me with 3 months of weight loss management BUT that would put recovery for me over the summer, and I think I can handle the disappointment. Good luck and thank you for the encouragement. ❤️
