    EXCITED!

Just a lil rave... As of this morning, I am officially down my first 50 lbs! I had a 3-week stall 2 weeks after my surgery. I had issues with my skin, with constipation, and this horrible stall. Because it's a revision, my weight loss is incredibly s-l-o-w (compared to virgin surgeries). I was so disappointed, having buyer's remorse, and all that. I've only lost 20 lbs in 45 days, but altogether (including my pre-op dieting) it's 50 whole pounds since May 11th!
  2. For me, it was an easier recovery. No new food aversions. I didn't have any before with the sleeve either. My gerd is gone an that in itself made being able to stay on program much easier due to better sleep, no fake gnawing hunger signals due to excess acid... Etc. It was the best thing I've ever done. I've said this before on quite a few posts but I feel so normal now, like pre-WLS of any kind, and I still have restriction. At first, you will feel that your restriction is gone but it isn't, it's different than the sleeve. Also, like the sleeve, wait until you begin solids because the fluids will just go right through your system. I had a learning curve to determine when I was approaching fullness. With the sleeve it was a runny nose. With the revision, I can feel it more in my stomach. I still get the runny nose but that is far too late for me so I stop before that now. The signals are different. I have not dumped, and the only symptom I have is slight constipation so I take 1 tsp of MiraLAX in my coffee every morning. Some need more, some don't need it. My vitamins are the same, a multi-vitamin patch, and depending upon my blood tests (I take every 6 months), I may take an additional chewable ADEK vitamin.
  3. I did, but I wasn't done with my weight loss when it became obvious I needed to have the revision. I lost 116 pounds in 9 months and was still losing when the complications slammed into me and I was told I had to have the revision. I never would have gotten it and would have continued to work my sleeve, my diet, and my working out had I not had so many insane issues happen.
  4. I would be feeling very insecure right now in your position . I agree with Summerseeker , if you're not on a drip , how can you stay hydrated ? I haven't had a bypass and freely admit I know nothing of them , but I can certainly understand your worry and unhappiness for the situation you are in .Please let us know how you are and I hope you see a doctor soon who will relieve your concerns x
  5. Did you have excess weight to lose before you had your revision? My doctor actually recommended the revision for the extra weight loss
  6. What has your experience been with having the sleeve to bypass revision? How was the recovery? Do you have many more food aversions? More dumping? More severe hair loss? I'm considering the revision due to GERD and I want to hear all the stories before I commit.
  7. Hi I had my lap band (originally inserted 2009) removed and replaced by a gastric bypass yesterday at 11am and sent to ICU here in local hospital. No one told me and I’m losing my ever loving mind here because I haven’t had anything to drink since the tiny bottle of pre-operative body armor drink I was given to drink before my surgery! I was told to do liquid diet 24 hrs before and then nothing after midnight so 12:01 am Tuesday morning I stopped drinking anything, headed to hospital I was told to drink the little bottle of body armor which was about 7 oz. Arrived early taken back and done early and into ICU room by around 2-3 pm Tuesday. Upon waking I immediately asked for some water and was told that I am not allowed to have it! I was shocked and asked when it would be possible and nurse said that I have to wait until the next day and that I have to have a bariatric fluid drink and test before I can have a drink! I’m dying of thirst here and still can’t believe that this is happening! nothing I read anywhere says this!!!! Has anyone else been through this? I have asked when the test will be and they said they will check on the schedule and let me know. I’m also a little frustrated bc they have a catheter in me and I’m pretty much stuck in the bed here, I’d have preferred to have been able to go to the bathroom but they don’t have a real bath in the room either just a toilet and there is literally a door that has a window across the room about 8 feet away… I’m not kidding. I’m really feeling like a prisoner in here and the little prison toilet just ads to it! im thinking of calling the bariatric testing center to see if I can get some answers. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thank you so much for that information! I've been looking for a good protein shake for a while so this is super helpful 🙂 I hope your revision went well!

I had my revision June 21st, original R N Y in 2005. Just remind yourself it is to make sure your liver is smaller to make the surgery less complicated for you! If you haven't tried them yet, bariatric pal has awesome protein shots available. I love the orange. It's like conentrated Tang! 100 calories, 15 grams of protein. Other really good protein shakes that got me through it, Redcon1 Protein shakes are 0 grams of sugar 250 calories and 40 grams of protein. Also KaChava is a good powder shake with alot of protein and super foods in it. I still incorporate these in my diet post surgery and it definately helps. Hope your surgery goes well with no issues!
  10. I’m really struggling lately with head hunger. I’m about 8.5 months post op from mini bypass and the sickness and nausea has subsided (yay) but the restriction has also eased a lot. I find myself wanting to just eat because it tastes good. I know I’m not hungry but I’m really having a hard time with it and looking for any advice on how people handle it. I’ve gained four pounds in about a week. I know I tend to fluctuate at this point but I’m getting nervous that I’m going to mess it all up.
  11. Have your team found out why you lost less than expected OP? It must be so disappointing - I know we all gear ourselves up for 60-70% with the sleeve. Some of us lose less and some more but of course we always want to be the ones who do best. I'm really sorry you're having to go through another procedure and I hope this one helps you get where you want to be. If you sit back and analyse, can you see anything you could have done differently last time? If so then this might be the time to plan ahead so that doesn't happen again. If you were just one of the unlucky ones then I suspect that if you stick rigidly to the plan again you might lose lots more if the bypass suits you better - just a bit more slowly this time as sleevediva said. I wish you all the best. Please let us know how you do xxx
  12. Please don't be embarrassed!! Its life, and things happen! My bestfriend was band to sleeve, and then GERD took over; she just bypassed a few months ago and hasn't had one single day of it again!

    May 2023 surgeries

Well my Sh:t Show continues, on Tpn 12 hrs a day, and now saline iv 1 a week to make sure i stay hydrated.. Met with docs again.. they still keep saying give it time, it should improve...My GS was May 8th how much more time? and the doc wont give a timeline. i am now taking 5 different meds for nausea, puking and acid reflux.. even with all that I still struggle every day.. I am tempted to have revision and have them do a bypass to see if it will stops all this. Wish i could find someone who this happened or happening too,, and i pray no one has to go though this, it is exhausting,
  15. I had to have a revision for other reasons, but I can tell you that you lose a lot less with it than the initial surgery. I'm 5 weeks post op, and I've lost 16 pounds. This time last year, I had lost 30. So you lose roughly half as much with a revision as you do from the initial surgery. Revisions tend to be worth it more if you have complications from the initial surgery (like I did). Additional weight loss isn't really a huge reason since you lose slower and less than the original surgery.

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

I should have mentioned in my initial post that I had a sleeve in 2018. Had horrible GERD since and also never lost the most weight that my surgeon said I could possibly lose. Fast forward through COVID, loss of a family member, major job change l, etc etc - I actually gained almost ALL of the weight back. It very embarrassing. I would have never thought that I would gain it all back - ever. As the day goes, never say never. I have a new surgeon now and she is amazing and did not make me feel like a loser. Since I have GERD and never lost to my potential, and have the hiatal hernia, I am having a revision to gastric bypass on 8/11. My highest weight was 250 and my lowest weight after sleeve was 169. I’m 5’4”. To say that this second chance means everything to me is an understatement. I haven’t even told anyone (besides my husband) that I’m doing the revision because I’m so embarrassed.
  17. I had the sleeve done and only lost 30% of my excess body weight. Typically they like to see you at 60% of your excess body weight. They had me on wegovy and that didn’t work so I’m now scheduled for a bypass revision. For people in the same boat that lost some but not a lot the first time, how much did you lose after revision? I’m hoping because I have so much weight to lose that it will come off the way it should have the first time

    GERD/Gastritis with Gastric Sleeve

I had the sleeve in 2016 and never had Gerd until the surgery. Got bypass in September of 2022, and it feels so good not to have Gerd and take nothing, and I have reached my goal weight....Go for the bypass.. Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

Hello! My surgery is Tuesday! Has anyone else had a sleeve to sleeve revision?
  21. Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to reach out and ask about your experiences during the first week after gastric bypass surgery. I had mine on July 24th, so it's been 6 days since the procedure, and I've been feeling a bit concerned about my eating progress. I had my surgery in Belgium, where I'm from cause it's free there! Unlike most of you, we don't have to stick to liquids only for an extended period. After the first 2 days, we can move on to puree and soft foods, which is a relief. However, I can't help but feel like I'm eating too much already. Today, for breakfast, I managed to eat 2 small french toasts and 1 egg in one sitting. While I did feel some restriction afterwards, I can't shake the feeling that it's still a lot of food for this early stage. I've been consuming around 900 - 1100 calories a day, and it's making me worry that the surgery might not work effectively for me. Additionally, I've been having trouble staying hydrated, which is something I never struggled with before. I would really appreciate hearing your experiences and any advice you might have. Thanks a bunch!

    240lbs down and still single

I am very impressed by your journey did you have any complications with your revision
  25. Day 4 post-op. I'm more sore than expected, especially from my upper right quadrant (abdomen). I did have a liver biopsy so I wonder if that is adding to it. I had the gastric bypass. I also have HORRIBLE hives on abdomen because I'm allergic to the scrub, benzoin...you name it. That alone is miserable. I gained 9 lbs (nine!) immediately after surgery. I'm sure it's from all the IV fluids. But I've lost most of that. Also, I am required to give myself injections in my belly for 2 weeks to decrease the risk of blood clots. Continuing another 2 weeks of clear liquid diet w/protein drinks; I'm ready to advance this diet, that's for sure. All in all, I'm glad I did this and the surgery is behind me. Anyone else experience right upper quadrant pain or discomfort? How long did it last?
