Strangely enough, I'm not as freaked right now as I was 10 minutes ago. Oh wait, here it comes......yep, self-doubt and that horrible feeling in my stomach is back. Ok breathe. In and out, in and out. This is what you've wanted for so long, remember? Just calm down! It's gonna be fine. Molly, you work at the hospital where you have surgery, you've explored all the ins and outs of the surgery, you know what to do and you'll do it. You're super educated about this whole process so, why the freak? Ah yes, that nagging feeling that they're gonna weigh you on the day of surgery and say, "you gained 5 lbs and now you can't have surgery." They probably COULD do that if they wanted to BUT, in my situation I don't think they would. And, I may have gained 5 lbs. I just haven't gotten on the scale in the last 2 weeks since I met my 5% weight loss requirement for surgery. Gulp. My friend who had the sleeve done said that they did weigh her right before surgery in the pre-op area and she had gained 3 lbs but, no one said anything about it. So.....that gives me hope. I mean seriously, what do they expect? I want to stuff my face at every waking moment now. It's terrible, way worse than trying to loose weight. I'm not gonna get to eat most of the junk I'm eating now....well, for a really long time! Ok, I guess that's the point. I had a LARGE piece of red velvet cake at work yesterday. It was so fabulous. I'm really never going to forget it. Or the horrific diarhea after I ate it that looked surprizingly red in the toilet. YUCK!!! TMI!!! I dreamt about Top Ramen last night. I woke up thinking, WTF? I never dream about food!!! Never!!! Am I gonna dream about food now? Oh brother, I sure hope not. I dreamt that I was parked next to another car with 2-3 people in it. When I got out of my car I noticed that they had a large bag of Top Ramen on the shelf that you can see via the back window. I asked them if I could have it. WTF!!!!! LOL In the end, I think it turned out to be cookies and something else instead of Top Ramen. So, I said, "Oh, nevermind, thanks anyways" and I had to leave the bag of whatever with them. Hopefully this is a good sign. Wow, this whole blogging thing is super therapeutic. I'm gonna have to do it more often. Off to work for my last day until October. That is IF they still let me have surgery. lol

TMI I know, but I've had like practically uncontrollable watery diarrhea all day. Is that normal or worth calling the doc about you think? -
3 mos out. OMG! What have I done? Protein makes me nauseous
PGee replied to K33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
K33 I hear you about wrapping your brain around the tiny meals......some days 3 bites are it.....and on those days I can be heard muttering something like "Are you kidding me? Seriously?!?" But it only takes a few seconds to shake it......the benefits of this surgery are totally worth it for me......I am happy with the weight loss, how I look, how I feel, the extra energy, not to mention the sex is great (TMI? sorry).......and hubby is happy, too.....the woman he married is back. I don't have any dietary restrictions....I make a crockpot meal each week, portion it out and freeze it---always have a variety of meals in the freezer in VSG sized portions to choose from, and the Protein is nice and moist.......I eat slow and my meals are tiny, but to reach my protein goals, I have to drink a Protein Drink for Breakfast. Good luck, HTH! -
yep, went home the next day. my blood work was fine, no leaks, and no nausea so they said i could btw, i feel much better now that it's 3 days post op. TMI but I've finally had a few bowel movements and oh are they heavenly lol. passing gas out the other end helps with gas pains as well. now i'm having muscular pain from sleeping, i'm still not comfortable. I sleep on my back, left or right side, but only for about 2 hours at a time. I have some nausea when i take my Vitamins, just threw them back up. called the surgeons office and left a message. but now i can see that it does get better! I'm quite excited now. will be weird introducing new foods in the next few weeks. thanks everyone

Do i need to note this on the quiz?? I just don't wanna go white out my answers and be obvious lol. I don't want to do a sleep study to find out i pee alot

4 Months Out - First Major stuck episode
BandedCandace posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all just a quick update of how I have been doing..I am down to 365.6 I was 417 the day of my pre op diet Jan 31st. Total loss of 51.4. I have been walking 3 miles every day training for a 60 mile walk I am doing in November..I havent stopped any of my medicine..but I have noticed my monthly becoming regular (TMI for some folks I know) and I have had no knee pain which is very unusual! Ok now on to my stuck episode for today. This morning I decided I wanted a bite of a donut and my band said HELL NO..It was the first time I couldnt get it to pass for 5 minutes and truly felt like I was about to fall out or throw up..It hurt so bad!! I never want to even see donut forEVER! I have ate other stuff that was too big of a bite and it took a minute to pass but I just felt the tightness I never felt sick and wow today I just knew I was going to throw up..but I didnt..It finally just passed through and I knew the second that it passed because it was a huge relief. Anyway..Loving my band and it is still by far the best decision I have made for myself. I go back to the doctor on July 17th and I Hope to get a minor fill. I think I am close to my restriction because I dont feel like I am in bandster hell...but its still not where I need to be I believe. Thats it for now -
Does anyone have issues with the meal replacements
PaulaWodzisz replied to Anxious2beme's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am guessing it is your body adjusting to the change in diet. You are getting a lot more of your nutrition through fluids than you probably were before. I had the same thing on the liquid diet (which seems to last forever). I am just now starting to get my system somewhat back to where it was, but my poop is still not as solid as it used to be (TMI I know). Good luck to you. -
Sorry Maybe Tmi But I Need To Know!

Had maybe a week of normal stool and now bam! horrible gas pains and diarreah for two days! I had the chills and i thought i was gonna throw up at the same time (thankfully i didnt) ..anyone else go thru this? is it normal? -
I'm now 17 1/2 months post-op, and my periods seem to be getting heavier & heavier! Like huge clots heavier! Should I address this with my dr? my superpower is......

I had a different surgery then you, but you're drinking more than I did so that's a plus! I was really weak for the first three weeks or so and, yes, had diarrhea (mostly due to my type of surgery as it's common) and was in quite a bit of pain from where they took the majority of my stomach out... it hurt to get up, to sit, and to just move in general. But things DO get better. Of course I had some weird things happen too (tmi, but constipation is NOT supposed to happen with my surgery and it happened TWICE! I had to cut my iron out for a week both times and then wean myself back on it) and I have dizziness issues that my doctor is currently trying to figure out because other than my potassium, I'm not deficient on anything else (and my potassium apparently isn't low enough that it would be causing me the issues I'm having). I don't regret my surgery, though in the beginning I did question if I'd made the right choice and I think it's completely normal to ask "Did I just make the worst mistake?" Things WILL get better! Remember why you did the surgery in the first place and just try and give yourself a pep talk to push through. It worked for me!

4 weeks post-op...still having diarrhea!
cortneyhughes posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it normal to still be having diarrhea nearly a month after surgery? Sorry, I know this is a little TMI, but I am getting concerned. I am eating solid foods, and had my first fill last week. I am losing weight on schedule and everything else is great, but the sudden diarrhea is getting REALLY old! Please tell me this will pass soon! -
I was banded Tuesday and now that it is Sunday my stomach is finally retreating. I knew I was bloated, but I kept it to myself. I kept thinking dear Lord am I pregnant and did they miss the baby? Needless to say I had a few moments of the gas easing out last evening-no it was not violent and tummy is going down. I hope that this is not tmi, but I have had my firs b-movement since surgery this morning. I was not too worried about it because I was on clear liquids 10 days pre-op through to yesterday. The tightness around the repaired hernia is gone. I am so happy and blessed.

Post sleeve and head hunger -- what is it like for you?
danaevett replied to Skywalker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am one month post op and I do have hunger. It seems to be real hunger because I can tell the difference between head hunger and real hunger. Apparently I'm not one of the lucky ones who doesn't experience hunger anymore. Oh well. It hasn't slowed me down any. I've lost 23 pounds so far. The biggest problem I've had so far is over eating. I can't eat very much but my head thinks I can. I find myself putting way too much on my plate. (Just like pre-op.) I am learning to recognize the feeling of me starting to get full. If I take it slow, and only take small bites, I can manage pretty well. If I don't, and I get too full, it feels like the food has filled up my stomach as well as my lower esophagus. That is not a pleasant feeling. Several times my mouth has started watering profusely and I have had to throw up. It's interesting though, I only throw up a small amount and it seems to only be the food in my lower esophagus. It doesn't empty my stomach. Just enough that I feel better. Sorry for the TMI. Hope this helps. -
Hello Everyone! I have been lurking around here for a couple of weeks now and am now ready to join the ranks here I am in the beginning stages of this journey, currently in the 6 month dietary program required by insurance. One month down almost. Tomorrow I have my first consult with whom I hope will be my surgeon. I am feeling excited/nervous about it. Its' almost like being excited for the first day of school as a kid. I haven't felt like that in a loooong time. Two years ago I started researching the lapband. My weight at that time was 272 which is my current weight. I didn't have any co morbidities but did have a qualifying BMI. I went to a seminar and there were only 10 people there, which was nice because we all got to speak with the surgeon individually. He told me that I would have to under go a year long medically supervised diet (all out of pocket) required by my insurance at that time. I asked him what would happen if I lost weight to the point where I was not at a qualifying BMI. He gave me a smug look and said, "that's not going to happen." Whether he meant it or not I took it as a put down. I left the seminar determined to lose weight on my own and I did. I joined a Biggest loser competition at work lost 30 lbs and got an honorable mention. For the next year and a half I was up and down the same 40 lbs. Fast forward to 3/5/11. I went and saw a podiatrist. I had been experiencing terrible pain in both feet for about six months, I am on my feet a lot at work. I just accepted that because I was so overweight that they would hurt. Turns out one of my toes on one foot had a stress fracture and I had plantar fasciitis in the other. I was given a cortisone injection for the PF and insoles for my shoes which helped a lot. That was a turning point for me. I realized how out of tune I was with my body and that all of these aches and pains were real and valid and that something needed to be done. I have been overweight since childhood and have tried many diets, I was always successful in the short term but could never keep the weight off. I started thinking about WLS again. I was considering the band since that was covered by my insurance and seemed to be the safer option. At the seminar 2years ago the doctor talked about the Sleeve but said insurance companies considered it experimental and didn't cover it. Summer of last year a coworker got sleeved in Mexico since our insurance didn't cover it. She has had amazing results with it. I called my insurance to see what my benefits were and turns out they now cover it 95%! Since then I have enrolled in the insurance required 6 months of appointments with a nutritionist, went to a seminar with a different surgeon and have an appt for a consult tomorrow:) Sorry for the long post. They will be shorter in the future. I just want to thank everyone who posts here. This forum has been an invaluable resource for me (I have done other research as well). I do appreciate the TMI things by the way. I feel confident, that I know what to expect and how to prepare myself for the steps ahead of me. Thank you all!!!

yesterdayyyyy all my troules seemed so far awayyyy
shmack replied to shmack's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Nawww thanks laffy :blushing: Last night I had a REALLY bad night... I was up until about midnight because my bf and his bro were 'hanging out' = lots of booze and stupid computer games lol... Anyways, being the one not drinking I was designated driver to maccas for a mighty angus meal at 11.30pm at night. Got home after the boys were talking about cochroaches in the car (dont ask how they got onto that topic) and all of a sudden I had the urge to be sick... TMI but I even started the whole sliming process and knew if I didn't lay down straight away I would be dry heaving in no time and at risk of slipping the band... Luckily the moment I laid on my back the pain and feeling went away... then I stood up again and it was back again... I'm wondering whether it could be because I had a big day and maybe the drag on my skin/stomach from the port cord could have been a bit much??? Any ideas? This morning I have a very sensetive incision in one spot.. i feel a bit bruised up and when I stand I can feel a bit of a drag.. probably normal as everything else so far has been...but you know the story.. waiting for my bad luck to return lol:unsure: -
I'm also 5 days out and I've felt mucus accumulating in my throat also. Tmi, but I've been spitting it out to get rid of it.
-
I was also banded on the 19th. I am doing very well with very little pain, just sore. I can say that I AM hungry..... I still haven't had a BM....... sorry if TMI....LOL:ohmy:

Ok, totally a tmi question, so you don't have to answer lol, but does your significant other feel it?

When Was Your First Bm Post Op?
theoldmusicbox replied to TiredOfChubRub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not go #2 for 11-12 days post-op. Dr said not to worry, but if I was concerned take 1 low dose stool softener every other day or fiber supplement until it happened. However (tmi) that first one I would say was the closest I could come to giving birth. I almost cried, and when I saw it, was not really surprised since it was almost 2 weeks of number 2 all at once. Now, if I haven't went for 2 days, I start the low dose softener, and all s well. -
When Was Your First Bm Post Op?
cantwaittolose replied to TiredOfChubRub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well here's some TMI.....day 7 and it was very painful and bloody and then after that it's been soft, a little runs but not bad. When I went in for my post op with Dr. he asked about BM and before I could even tell him he said "a little consipated? and was there blood"....apparently this is "normal". Anyway, all is fine and no more pain, it was only that 1 time. -
Hey sis ...one u share ur new bday with my daughter!!! Congrats. My hospital stay was five days also and ran into complications. I wanted to tell u I'm five years out and night before last I had made beets and spinach noodles and my stomach talked from 9pm until 3pm the next day. I woukdnt call what I had diarrhea bc it was more like pure Water. It was so bad I actually recorded it from my cell phone and let my bf listen to it. Mine wasn't painful but (this gonna be tmi) I knew if I passed gas I'd use the bathroom so everytime I had to do that I had to hop out of bed run to the bathroom and do it and I believe I couldve made the guiness books for those ..wow. I took immodium and pepto all night and then it quit. I figured what's causing it and I'm on a prednisone pack right now for a severe sinus infection. I'm sure with ur pneumonia ur on antibiotics and that is where all this gas and diarrhea is coming from I'm willing to bet on it. There's nothing u can do bc u need that to get rid of the pneumonia.. just hang in there and msg me if u need too. Lots of love

My first month as a sleever...........
uni2424 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted to share my first month experience! The good, bad and TMI also!! All in all my recovery was very easy. No nausea or vomiting. I am able to eat most things by now (still haven't introduced beef or raw veggies). I don't crave many things. I am surprised at how much I can eat but still not eating much in a day. Sometimes I can eat more than others, don't really know why. When you eat too much you will know and be miserable! Walk it out! I am getting down over 100 grams of Protein per day, how you say? I add an extra scoop of unflavored Protein powder to my Advocare Protein Drink so I am getting 54 grams in 1 shake and I am drinking 2 of those per day most days. I am walking a lot! Get a Fitbit, it really helps you get those steps in per day! I am off on Fridays and walked 7 miles that day-not all at once but there were 90 active minutes! I still cannot lift without feeling some strain so I don't do it yet! My weight was stalled for 2.5 weeks (very frustrating for a new sleever) but one morning I woke up and 5 pounds gone just like that and now a couple of more! I have not experienced dumping but I will say what I experience is more like a cleansing! There is a sense of urgency but plenty of time to find a bathroom! It is usually very welcome because it make the bloating go away! I wake up with a flat stomach (compared to what it was) but once I eat or drink anything my stomach does bloat. I am urinating so much less (which is nice) and urine is clear so I know I am still getting plenty of fluids! I have saved a lot of money not going out to eat anymore. Some of my incisions are still open but healing. I have not experienced in excessive hair loss. My first period out after surgery was long and heavy, doctor said that was normal. I have lost 20 lbs yet no one has said anything about it yet except my husband! Could be because I am still wearing the same clothes! I have a lot more energy!! The ugly is that I have been really moody, my family can attest! I don't know if this is from the changes or the building a house and current house in disarray and long work hours! Either way, my family has been very patient and I hope it goes away!! Very pleased that I did this, wish I would have done it sooner!
