4 days post op
emtscott54 replied to sleeved _ Qutie7615's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hospital sends is home with therapeutic pillows. They want you to keep pressure on the incision sites when moving, sneezing, burping, farting, coughing, or pooping. I was lucky and pooped two days post-op. It was a struggle. I had to squeeze the pillow against my main incision while bearing down. Kinda felt like I was playing bag pipes on the potty. I got my sleeve done on Tuesday and everything has gotten easier everyday. I have used no pain meds since the day of surgery. Water water water. Protein protein protein. Walk walk walk. Ps. There is no such thing as tmi. We're all in this together and bodily functions are now considered pleasant conversation. -
My last post "tummy looks small" was supposed to be nice incisions LOL ...drugs .... what can I say? My tummy actually looked like I was 6 months pregnant again and hard.. full of gas they kept saying it will pass soon soon it will pass ...4 days until i finally started getting rid of that gas wow!!! ( TMI - sorry) Now I am at home doing so much better.. it was difficult getting fluids in at first I know logically that it wasn't going to be forever but still emotionally it felt like it was. today I hit my protien target 60g and I drank 2 bottles of water plus ONE of my vitamins ..ha its a start! Getting better every day. Today I even walked down the street and back with my daughter. I know we aren't supposed to weigh in this early but curiosity got the best of me and I am down 5 lbs. Nice.... Follow up on Tuesday.

Post-op dumping on broth?
kmd0235 replied to daveintx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No answers, but I can tell you the exact same thing happened to me. Went to a Mexican restaurant, had the chicken Soup. It had a lot of stuff in there, but I only had about 8 tablespoons of the broth only, and it wasn't spicy. About two hours later, I had a complete blow-out (sorry for the TMI) and was thankful that I was very close to a bathroom when it hit. Frustrating! And makes me nervous about starting mushies in a couple of weeks. -

I would add, in the TMI category, I would like to be able to look down and see my private parts without a belly in the way!!! I also would like to sit on a wooden or metal folding chair without breaking it. After 70# down and almost 3 months, the victories keep coming. I can bend over and weed my garden without getting down on the ground, and when I do get on the ground, I can get up without using something to rise. I actually bought a T-shirt, extra large tall, at JC Penny yesterday, I honestly cannot remember buying a garment in a regular store. Good thread, thanks! -
Hey guys~ well I'm now 9 days post op and today I am soooo tired. Complete lethargy. I haven't been this tired yet. Seems weird because I'm on mushy foods and getting more nutrients than I had the first week post op. My goodness, I'm a walking zombie! I'm also having dull aches in my back, specifically near my kidneys. I'm drinking about 64 oz of water per day but can't kick the dull ache. Any ideas or advice? I currently have heating pad on my back and it's helping a lot!! Oh also, TMI but I'm back to having regular BMs but this morning there were oil drops in the water...??? What is that?!?! I have been very strict on the diet so can't imagine where that's coming from. I am so glad to have you guys to bounce questions and ideas off of. Thank you in advance!!!☺️

Hey laguerr13 my sleeve brother form another surgeon!???? lol. I am so happy to hear how awsome you've been doing I always like reading your post because you really make sence and you keep it real. Mostly cause we were renewed on the same date June 10th! I wish I could say im doing as well with my eating like you seem to be doing. My issue is that I can not tolerate meat at all and believe me I have tried very lean chicken breast, thighs, Beef in several diffrent cuts from tri tip, to T- bone and beyond. Fish ive had sword fish and salmon shrimp and crab meat and even sardines. I have never been a big meat eater to begin with but now since we have to chew our food so thouroghly I have been experiencing this weird thing where I begin to get a mental picture of the meat Im eating and I begin to breakdown it down in my head the texture, the fibereous meat, the layers of fat and the veins and blood even by the time Im done chewing my food (Im sorry TMI) in gaging and can barely swollow what Ive just chewed up! I try not to think about it,i try to distract my thought but I just get so grossed out by meats no matter how its prepared. My fear is that I will never be able to eat meats again and enjoy them. Another thing Im having issues with is im very sensative to certain scents and odors. I cant stand the smell of very strong spices or fried foods cigaretts and for a while a lot of things smelled like onions or vinager to me but no one else!! Its really kind of weird! But to end this on a possative note I have lost 33 lbs since surgery my presurgery weight was 235 and today I weigh 203 lbs I feel great and starting to look pretty good!

Wow there are so many things I can't wait to stop doing once I lose the weight. Sweating- I currently sweat profusely like all the time! A co worker of mine thinks it's cute to come over and wipe my sweaty face all the time, I feel so embarrassed every time! Being able to bend- I have to either open my legs wide or put my leg out to ben over and get something because my belly is in the way. Chair scoping- When I go anywhere I have to scan the room and decide which chair I think will hold me, be comfortable, and I'll be able to get out of with ease. Shopping at a store- I pretty much do all my shopping online because going to the store is a hassle. Not only because it's hard to feel good in clothes when you don't like your body, but also the sweating when trying on clothes. sleeping anywhere- I snore like a wild animal and I hate falling asleep in front of people because they always need to mention it as if I don't know I snore!! I'm always trying to stay awake on planes and car rides to avoid the embarrassment! Handicap bathrooms- This one makes me feel like an a**hole! I always go to the big stall so I can have enough room to maneuver for cleaning (tmi but true) I'm glad to see so many people saying the sweating problem stopped!! There is hope!! -
They're still here, just deflated haha! I went from a 46DD to a 38DD.....not necessarily because they are still large but they need that much room for all the extra skin. Sorry if its TMI.

Ladies after surgery did you loose your boobs? Sorry if this is TMI. I'm just new to this and started my pre op doctors appointment.

Hi Natalie, I'm doing really well also. I too m getting to the point where I know I need to hit the gym but not trying to be a superhero. I'm still struggling with fatigue hoping it will go away soon. I keep having to remind myself that because of my age I'm not going to bounce back as quickly as some of the youngins lol. I am still struggling with getting all my protein shakes in. So I just ordered a new nectar brand that is only 4 to 6 ounces with 30 grams. I think that's going to help a lot as I really hate the shakes I'm using now. I have been extremely careful I've not eating too fast and chewing my food really really well so have had no issues up until last night I made some tuna and cut up dill pickle slices really tiny like the size of relish. About 10 minutes after eating I felt really nauseous. Not to the point of throwing up but just not feeling good. I also had instant diarrhea but it didn't continue just one time. Sorry for the TMI not sure how else to put that lol. I don't know now whether it was the food or if maybe I ate it too fast. I'm guessing it was a mild mild case of dumping? Really not sure -
My bowels are watery too. It started yesterday and I've gone 3 times since then. I thought it might have been contributed to getting my period. Ugh. TMI! I have an iud and I haven't had a period in months and it is brutal this month. Ive actually had to take my pain meds from cramping. Thank God for the prescription doc gave me. My husband made me fat free cream of chicken soup today and it was fantastic!! I go for my follow up on Tuesday. Today I'm feeling a little lightheaded too.

soCalSue I too had watery bowels. Yuck. It's not TMI , I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I have terrible pain on my right side and I see my dr tomorrow so will ask. I'm not allowed protein shakes or cottage cheese yet I'm also still very swollen! I want it to go away.

June 29th Bypass Surgery
SoCalSue replied to smrogg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope everyone had a great July 4th. I personally had to avoid the social events - I don't think I could have faced any hot dogs or burgers! I admit the smell of food still makes me want to eat... So 6 days out from surgery on 29th, time flies but I am finding it a struggle. My stomach is still very swollen, however I am 4 lbs down from my pre surgery weight. I have a hellish pain on the LH side which feels like a torn muscle but I see my surgeon on Tuesday so I will follow up with him. I have been interested to hear the different nutritional guidance from everyone. My surgeon advised me to start my protein replacement on Thursday, 3 days after surgery. I managed it fine but ended up in the bathroom with very watery diarrhea (sorry if TMI). It is improving but because I also started drinking broth and ate small amounts of cottage cheese - this really helps. Sorry to ask such personal questions but did others find that once their GI tract came back to life(!) they also experienced such an effect? I guess liquids in - liquids out.!! -

so many things...... We now sit in booths again also, Not being SOB with showering or walking to the bathroom and back Painting my own toenails wipe my butt (TMI) I know but it was starting to become an issue Walking into the convience store and embarrased because all I was buying was chips, doughnuts and soda and it was all for me!! Ordering a "normal" size meal and taking 3/4 of it home for 3 additional meals. getting out of a chair without grunting. Any many more -
Tmi but I'm afraid my period will be going for surgery. Will they cancel it??? Praying no.
-
So more TMI - when do you know if you have an impaction and/or should call the dr? This has been a very long miserable day and still not complete relief and of course, now I have hemorrhoids making it way too painful.
-
Same here. Can't wait for thicker liquids! One more day! Yay! LolI had a funny moment today I have to share with y'all. It's definitely TMI but still all of you are probably the only people that can understand this right now. I did a happy dance after I used the restroom today. My urine was orange for the last few days due to dehydration and I was so excited when it was nearly clear that I had to do a little "post-surgery hold my belly while I shake my butt" dance cuz I knew that meant I had gotten in all my fluids today! Yay! Haha Don't think I pulled off all the protein like you did, but I'm aiming for that goal tomorrow too!

I was sleeved April 23rd and have pretty much had a steady decline with the exception of one stall. I have started running and lifting weights, I am still only eating around 750 calories a day and all of a sudden a gain 1.5lbs. Maybe TMi, haven't gone #2 in a week, getting all my water. What am I doing wrong?

Question about dumping
QuilterGal replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have several food allergies so dumping syndrome (I call it IBS-D) is not new for me. One of my worst episodes was at the Magic Kingdom when I drank a fruit smoothie. I was trying to avoid dairy, which is a major trigger for me. But it was LOADED with sugar. I started to sweat heavily, get dizzy, cramp up, and had to run to the restroom. TMI Warning: I had explosive diarreah. After about 30 minutes in the bathroom, I thought it was safe to walk across the park to first aid to get some Immodium. I finally felt better about an hour later. I've also experienced something similar when I eat MSG, which is in a lot of chinese food. Within 10-15 minutes, I'm running to the bathroom. -
@@haleylhs I'm only just shy of a day out from surgery and still in the hospital so I'm not sure I can comfort you much. I actually feel pretty good. I haven't had to push my Diluadid button much. The most pain I've had is from the gas but this morning (it's 4am) my stomach is much less distended and even though I haven't had a BM yet I am feeling much better. (Exciting TMI moment for me: I just barely farted for the first time and it was A-mazing! LOL) I also have a really bad migraine but I get those normally anyway and we're working on fixing it. I have just barely started keeping ice chips down. Yesterday I threw even a couple pieces of ice up everytime. My mouth is very dry and it's annoying but I keep at it. My nurse said I could chew on gum but upon looking in my purse I realized I had none. So, husband will be bringing some when he gets here after dropping the kids off at daycare. I think that'll help a lot. So, you're right you won't be drinking for a bit, but really in the whole scheme of things it was very minor and plus yes you are hooked up to the IV. As for the drain coming out of you - that is Dr specific I've noticed. My doc said only his RNY and DS patients had drains. I don't have one but to tell you the truth it probably would've been better than just dripping from the big hole where they removed my stomach. I had quite a lot of Fluid come out yesterday and got me wet enough to change my gown and bedding. They put a gauze pad over it and it's been ok now though. A drain isn't too bad though - I've had them with previous surgeries - and its no big deal, in my opinion. Lastly, I don't feel like I just got hit by a bus. I feel like I just had another c/section or my hysterectomy. The pain from the gas yesterday was annoying but the pain meds helped knock me out so I didn't care. I got all 4 of my walks in and that really did help. So far I am not having second thoughts. I can tell you I did start freaking out the day before surgery but this isn't so bad... yet. LOL Hang in there! You can do this!

It's been rough, to be honest. I'm not sleeping well and it took me a very long time to come out of anesthesia. I have lots of gas and diarrhea. Sorry, TMI.
-
Ohhh my surgery was 4 hours. Started at 1 on Tuesday and was not done until 6 with the hour of recovery. It has not been easy guys. Anesthesia was hard on me. It took me a long time to come out of. Even still I didn't get any sleep Tuesday night. Anesthesia had me very itchy and gave me weird dreams. The beds are so tough to sleep in too. I have had broth and water but cannot tell when I'm full. I wonder if my pain is hunger or internal incision pain. I was not able to walk until Wednesday morning which was tough!!!! I feel very lightheaded. I also have a lot of gas and diarrhea. Yikes. Tmi, sorry.

I was sleeved one week ago and I've only lost 6 pounds. Ordinarily this would be good, but if these are my reeks during rapid weight loss, then this is going to be an impossibly long journey. Note that I was 402 on my surgery date. I'm getting my protein in and adequate fluids. I have a bowl movement daily (tmi), and I walk. Any ideas of what else I can do?
