I can agree with this as well. The smell of fast food makes me feel nauseous. And I loved, I mean LOVED fast food before surgery. I don't crave it. No bread or pasta cravings either. The thing i miss the most right now. Is Salads. And I'm craving raw veggies like crazy. I still have a month or two before i can try to introduce those. I cant wait.

Got my surgery date....10 days to go!
chumashlady posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm a newbie here and thought I'd share my excitement. I just got my surgery date, 7/25/11 and since then, everything seems as if it's going in fast-motion. I've started my pre-op diet yesterday and so far, so good. I'm reading all the posts I can on here and trying to get a feel as to everyone's experience so far. My daughter is getting married in December, so I'm already envisioning a great looking mother-of-the-bride's dress. Did anyone have any unrealistic expectations prior to surgery? -
Family Dinners
finallyncontrol replied to NewMrs.Smith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started from day one..well as soon as I was allowed food after surgery we all ate the same food. I never thought of this as a diet...it is a lifestyle change. I didn't want to think of this as a diet or eat only certain foods because if I ate that way that once I hit my goal and started eating other foods I would gain the weight back. Plus I feel that we all need to be eating healthy. Since being banded I cook 95% of all of our meals. We enjoy family time so much more now. We vote on the meals to see if we want to make them again or never again or maybe once in a great while. We still have fast food night every so often...Wendy's works...I can order chili and they can get whatever they want...we also do Taco Bell. I have found deserts to make that has no calories that are very good. As I said me doing this has helped us in so many ways...much better homemade meals...I may eat less than they do but we all eat the same thing. I hope you can do the same...it would make your life so much easier. Good luck!!! -
What to eat what not to eat That is the question!
beccaboolane posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 4 days ago and am going crazy!! I was told I need to be on a liquid diet for the first week and then start adding in thicker liquids and then soft food. Any advice on this?? I have been living on soup and jello. I went to Jamba Juice today and that was like Heaven. What else can I do? Do I really need to be worried that I will throw up if I drink too fast?? That is my biggest fear!! -
I am currently finishing up all the things my insurance is requiring me to do. I had to do six consecutive months of doctor visits for weight lost attempts, and Thursday well be my last one. Does anyone know how fast this process will move after that?

Newbie starting the journey
LuminousLisa replied to ThomasWifey76's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Samantha! I'm new here too Best of luck to you on your journey - do you have any estimation of when you'll be banded? I'm hoping to be by the end of September. It feels so far away, but from what I read on here, it will go by fast! -
Discomfort when swallowing @ 4 wks post op

@@Pegasus012587 I have a follow up next week. I will let you know what my surgeon says. (I'm assuming that I'm eating too fast - even though it doesn't seem that way to me - or something like that. -
You say you lack the energy to be an exercise partner. I know personally the one thing I would love to have more than anything is a walking partner! Walking is good exercise, you should not walk so fast that you can't carry on a conversation so it's a great social time and it costs nothing to do...in these financial times, something free that's good is not to be sniffed at! Okay, you say, but I don't think I can do that. Well, tell her you will walk with her until you feel that must turn around. Every time you go out, try to walk a little further. You will benefit from this AND SO WILL SHE. You will get stronger, and she will feel that you are making a big effort for her and that should inspire her, too! Do you cook at all? You can cook simple meals and surprise her and provide meals that are within "the plan" and maybe even provide some leftovers that can then provide a healthy lunch the next day. Example? Grill chicken, steak or lean pork OR FISH. There is a flat thingie with small holes to put fish on on top of the grill grid. Spray it with PAM so the fish doesn't stick. Grill vegetables! Some fruits even taste better grilled because it intensifies the flavor! Experiment. A little leftover steak can be added to salad greens with some sauteed mushrooms and low fat or fat free salad dressing. Instant lunch. Support isn't complicated. Reward her with a surprise now and then. There's a thread here somewhere about rewarding yourself. I suggested a nice (though certainly not ostentatious) piece of jewelry at 50 pounds. Maybe a silver (or gold, if you can afford it) charm bracelet with just one charm on it. Then add to it every 5 or 10 pounds. Silver would make more frequent charms more affordable. And what a nice surprise to have you pick these out for her! Love is the best support of all, my friend!

I'm 7 weeks out and eat strawberries almost every day. They're in season her in California so I go with it. No problems. So far I've had grapefruit, oranges, strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, raspberries, blackberries, pineapple, avocado and bananas. I use the fresh stuff as Snacks and throw the frozen ones into my Protein shakes. Keep in mind I had an Iron stomach before surgery and seem to have an iron sleeve. Nothing bothers it unless I eat dense protein too fast. Yes, there are the carbs, but as Meg said, these are healthy ones. I guess the idea is to not overdo it and eat some protein along with the fruit. I like cheese with mine :-)

I ate a piece of broccoli and I didn't chew enough and now I'm stuck. To make matters worse I'm traveling for work so not close to my doc and it's 9:30 pm so I can't even call. I've thrown up a bit but it still feels like something is there. I tried to drink a very small sip of water and it came back up. It's been 2 1/2 hours and I'm worried and at this point I think sleeping is not in my future tonight. Any suggestions?????

At first, he didn't want me to. He was so nervous id get sad and depressed which sure, I did but it came and went. He actually has been staying away from sugars/ breads/fast food etc since my surgery day which has been a God send for my recovery and new lifestyle. He's determined to lose some pounds and have this lifestyle together. This was his big 30 so I did want to do something special. He has been very expressive and very grateful. It's nice when people see how hard this is for us especially in the beginning. He didn't get popcorn either! I was going to really struggle if he did. Haha!!! Over all, I woke up today and yeah, I didn't get steak but I'm doin okay! Lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Venting - So Mad!
beggingtobehealthy replied to Brenda Sherwood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took 2 weeks to get auth through my insurance and that was considered FAST. On another note, you still have a little time. I am only taking 5 days off post op since my position is mostly sedentary -

Is this restriction, eating too fast or food doesn't agree with me????
Forensikchic replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am four weeks out and I get that feeling when I eat too. Most of the time I get it when I eat too fast. If I slow down and take small bites, wait in between for a minute or two, I dont get it as much. You are right... if that is the new full feeling, its WAY different than the full stomach feeling we all know and love. I am just trying to learn mine too and I hope this helps some. I think if we slow down some, measure the food if we need to and take smaller bites, it will be easier to tell when we are satisfied, not full. -
Is this restriction, eating too fast or food doesn't agree with me????
Sunny702 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After a few bites I feel this cramping, tightening feeling in my chest ... it feels like its right at the bottom of my esophagus. I never feel "full/satisfied" in what I remember to be my stomach. Is this what satisfied feels like? Or is this the feeling when you eat too fast? Or... is this what it feels like when the food doesn't agree with you?? Confused .... looking FORWARD to "figuring this sleeve thing out". -
I was banded with plication 7/27/11, While I was in the pre-op holding area, I went all clammy, thought I was gonna hyperventilate--it was so strange because I've had several surgeries over the years and I have never reacted that way. My hubby got the nurse; she checked me over then asked, "Do you feel like you want to bolt?" A "YES!" flew out of my mouth pretty fast. The nurse gave me some IV Versed, and all was well after that. Perhaps your doctor would give you something to take for anxiety next time? A four hour wait is just too long so maybe next time they could schedule you as the first surgical case? Good luck! Scuffy

6 months pre op diet Fail
Sosewsue61 replied to starshine123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do your best. I used a free app called Baritastic to track my food. The pre-op is mainly to make you aware of your food choices, to examine your relationship with food, teach you nutrition, and for you to gradually stop bad habits. You have to look at how you use food - are you hungry or bored, anxious, stressed, etc so you can change from using food to solving those issues to solving them without food. It's hard, but your head needs fixing first or you will resort to these behaviors after the surgery. Stopping junk carbs will keep the cravings down, if you keep going back to them it just starts all over again. Give up one thing each week and build on that - I quit soda 1st thing - none, not even diet. Then - no fast food - none, zero. Then gradually let go of starchy carbs - no rice, etc. You may lose a few pounds, or stay the same. The most important thing is to realize food is just food, it will always be there, there is plenty of it, you will have a bite or two of your favorite foods during maintenance. This diligence is forever. You can do it. -
I had the surgery in Feb. I haven't had problems with vomiting either. If I eat too fast or too much I have the same problem. This has been really acute in the past few weeks. I'm learning that the instant I feel that wierd "pressure" when I'm eating I need to stop. It doesn't matter how much has gone in. I've heard this happens to many sleevers. Hope it gets better.

I was on the aggresive side requesting restriction. I got it. We did not sneak up to it. There are good and bad things that can be said about that. I am loosing because I am dieting and exercising. But I know my band is there to help me stay within my limits and on track. I have a 10cc band, and am not interested in playing the .5cc until we find some restriction... I have 3cc's now, and think that it can be too much sometimes. But I am working with it, and learning the lessons I need to learn. Hang in there. Getting the restriction is frustrating, and while I decided to take the fast track to it, I am still glad I did.

January 21 for me. I am weaning off my trigger foods and starting my day three times a week with a slim fast. I figured I might just start now so I will be used to going all liquid two weeks before the surgery. I am also figuring out which flavors I am going to stock up on. I know I can't stand the strawberry slim fast.

My band is pretty tight in the morning so I keep drinking the same protein shake over and over... 4 oz. chocolate light soy, 4 oz. water, 1/2 banana, 1 TB pb, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder. I love it, but I am afraid I'm going to get sick of it. So what liquid do you have for breakfast? I wouldn't mind trying some of the low carb Slim Fast shakes, but I want to call my doctor's office first and ask their opinion. I have seen the shake recipes on here. Some of the flavored syrups and powders are hard to find. A few I've tried I just don't really care for. Thanks for any advice! I really appreciate it :w00t:

It only happens to me when I eat. Probably related to the same thing others have said -- I ate one too many bites, or ate too fast. I used to always get hiccups eating fried rice... which I always ate too much of, too fast. =)

I am now 11 weeks out and going into my second month of a stall. I work in a doctor's office and we have reps bring lunch a couple times a week. There is usually always something I can eat: grilled chicken, green Beans, salad, etc. Today the rep brought boxed lunches: sandwich, chips, chocolate brownie, banana. I was so disappointed and for a minute regretted what I had done to myself. I couldn't take a box and waste everything except the sandwich innards and half a banana. So I went to the cafeteria and got a burger patty. And I was feeling sorry for myself the whole way there. I lost so much so fast at the beginning that I didn't regret not being able to eat much. I could see pounds coming off every day. Now here I am having not lost a single pound since June 16. It's so hot here that I can't stand walking. When I get home from work it is still in the high 80s/low 90s with a ridiculous heat index. (Tennessee swelters in the summer.) I had been doing the Wii Fit, but it just doesn't seem to be pushing me. So last night I bought The Biggest Loser Challenge for my Wii. I'm going to start on it tonight. Anybody tried it? If doing this new exercise routine doesn't get things moving in the next couple weeks, I am going to back track to purees. I lost quite a bit during that phase, but the variety of things to puree kept my appetite in check.
