So I am a day early this week but that's because we're heading out of town tonight after work for a family reunion tomorrow. So for this week today's weigh in for me is on Thursday. But I have good news. The scale reads 355 lbs! I lost 3 pounds this week. Back on track and very happy about it. Of course I am back to walking just haven't gotten back up to the speed I was doing before my groin injury. But that's ok I will get back up to the faster pace. I can still tell there is some tightness in the groin muscle and just needs a little more time before I am back to full pace. Dieting is still going pretty well. The one change I have talked about is eating cereal in the mornings to change things up from just eggs and bacon all the time. So pretty much I rotate now from eggs and bacon one day to FiberOne® cereal the next day. It's actually been pretty nice not having to make breakfast every day and I like the change up in foods. Eggs and bacon can actually get pretty boring after a while. LOL Ok so here are the totals for this week.... This week 3 pounds lost Current Weight - 355 lbs Loss Since Surgery - 87 lbs (32 weeks) Total Weight Loss - 130 lbs

For Slow Losers - Excellent Info

Nope, the band doesn't help at all. But, it did lead me there, because I probably would have never found the Cushing's without it though. I would have been dismissed as "fat and lazy." Forever. But I'm used to doctors dismissing my health concerns becuse I'm fat. I had a collasped lung that they diagnosed as "fat." Part of the biggest problem with Cushing's is that the main symptom is OBESITY. If you are fat, it's your own damn fault, you've been over eating and under excersizing, and you need to take ownership, whatever that means... I was told that it was NORMAL to gain 25 pounds in a week. Sure if you are a pregnant elephant... I gained 50 pounds one summer, and I was told it was because I was upset because my husband was on sea duty. (I didn't change my eating habbits or my excersize) Just because doctors have MD behind their name doesn't mean they know everything. I was in the ER last night for one of my killer headaches. The ER doc basically said I was a lier, and that Cyclical Cushing's doesn't exisit... Well, he's not an Endo, he's not an Endo that specialized in Cushing's and he sure as heck doesn't live in my body. BeecheeGirl, and all you slow losers, FIGHT! DO NOT TAKE THIS LYING DOWN. you know somethings wrong, don't let some fool who's seen you for all of 15 minutes tell you otherwise. Do not go quietly into the dark! -
Good luck, my surgery is also in 4 days. I'm not on a liquid diet this week they just told me to eat light. I am so ready for the next stage!

Ok so I need some advice. Im having trouble deciding when to have this surgery (depending if i get approved of course) My company shuts down between christmas and new years so I wanted to have the surgery Dec 26th so I can go back to work the first week in January. I am so amped to have this. I am truly READY However, I am trying to keep this quiet as only a handful of people know about it and i dont want the holidays to be a problem with my preop diet and all with so many parties going on and stuff (im not so concerned with will power as i am about people making comments and maybe will power a little bit ) I was thinking of doing it January that way i can start my preop after new years...(i know, so cliche) But i have off that week in December I dont want to make my bosses angry. i mean if its surgery they cant do anything about it but i still feel so irresponsible. and i dont want to hear my coworkers make comments about another "vacation" i also am so AMPED for this i dont know if i can wait any longer...even if it is a couple of weeks so my question is, What would YOU do? im having a rough time with this and its weighing on me.... and I know alot of you will say "do whats best for you" but with this particular situation, i dont know what would be best because the end result will still be the same...WEIGHT LOSS!!!

You are not alone!!! I am in my 3rd week post op and some days are worse than others. It is easier when I stay at home for meal times. Going to restaurants is torture! I just keep hoping it ges better in time! -

The band is working well for me. I am losing about 2 to 2.5 pounds a week so around 10 pounds a month. I need to work on exercise. I sit at a computer all day and come home and sit some more. Today I told hubby I'm going to exercise no matter what. Regarding my eating I limit bread and steak which doesn't agree with my band. Everything else I eat small portions of. I track using My Fitness Pal. I'm working hard to be consistent with my healthy eating. Thanks for asking. I hope you are doing well. Lap-banded and love it! -
When I was at Hospital Angeles in Tijuana I wrote a little blog on paper that morning that I wanted to share. My last thoughts before surgery..... Dec. 5th, 2008 - 4 am Just a few hours left before my surgery. I feel really good about it. The hospital is very clean. It reminds me a lot of Jupiter Medical Center back home. The staff have all been very nice and accommodating. Not very many of them speak English but there usually is someone around that does. I met with Dr. Peterson yesterday for my medical history and his exam. He was pleased with how small my live feels. First Goal Accomplished!!! So today is surgery. I am Dr. Kuri's first patient of the day. Then the three gals who came for surgery too. Everyone is just so nice. Saara and her friend Leisha are a lot of fun to be around and talk to. I met Saara on the forums. Judy, Saara, Leisha, and I all actually met at the airport and have shared this trip together. This should be exciting to see how things turn out in the long run. In the last few moments before surgery I have been thinking a lot about Karen and Nicholas. I love them both so much. I can't wait to get home to them so that I can really be the husband and the father that they deserve to have. They truly are the reason that I push forward with this and with this dedication. I know Karen worries that I will get thin and then no longer be attracted to her but that is just not so. She is my best friend. She is my lover. She is the best thing that God has given/put into my life in a long long time. She belongs in my life and deserves my love, dedication, devotion, and respect. I love you Karen with all my heart and sole. Today after my surgery they want us up and walking within 2 hours. I intend to do it too. I know that is one of the many keys to success for this. That specifically was why I started walking again just over a month ago. I really want to get to where I can go running again. I used to love running in the morning and hope to be there once again. Well my final weigh in yesterday morning was 442.2 lbs. Never again will I weigh this much. This I swear to you with my sole. BRING ON THE BAND!

It's been a good week. I stepped on the scale this morning and really could not remember what I weighed last week. So I got my weight and figured I would look at my blog to see how much I had lost in the last week. To my surprise I lost 4 pounds. This last week I have been going for a power walk in the mornings. I also have been watching my food a little closer and not eating as much between meals. I know I am suppose to have 4 small meals a day but it's hard to make that work and so I think I was snacking more then actually planning the 4th meal out. The power walks in the morning are so refreshing. They really help me wake up and get my day started. Unfortunately today I won't be doing my walk. I have been hit pretty hard with allergies or a cold and am staying home from work today too. So I guess I should get to the totals This week 4 pound lost Current Weight - 372 lbs Loss Since Surgery - 70 lbs (23 weeks) Total Weight Loss - 113 lbs

I got dates!! It finally seems real!! Some questions for all of you..
mel_25 replied to LynneB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats!! That's awesome. I have my 1st appt. with the surgeon on Jan 16, so I'm really excited like you. They are gonna do the psych evaluation and nutrition thing that same day, so I should have a surgery date next week. Yay!! Anyway, I don't know if you've seen it before, but there's a really good checklist on this forum. You go to the main page on this site and click on "FAQs and references." Then there's a sticky for post op checklist. It's really good. I think there are things on there for what to do before-hand also. Anyway, congrats! Hope that helps! -
I am excited to say that I have lost 16 pounds. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks. I cannot have a fill for another 3 weeks, per my Dr.'s advice. I can eat anything. Is the normal fill after surgery 6 weeks?

I had my first appointment scheduled with a bariatric surgeon on Tuesday, January 9th. This particular bariatric center was highly recommended by my brother in law, and they provide services to our local area and surrounding cities. The one problem though is that I have had difficulties getting appointments at the clinic in my city, although there always seem to be openings in the surrounding areas, so really it wasn't too bad. There is another bariatric clinic in our area and I decided to give them a call, just to get a vibe. I figured that I would chat with them, and perhaps meet with both clinics to see which was a better fit. To my surprise, the new clinic was so much more involved, especially in the educational process before the surgery. We scheduled an appointment on Monday already, to start the program. They also provided me with a personal website that I can use to track documents needed for insurance, required classes, vitamins, etc. Right away, I felt so welcomed and so excited. They had a series of 5 videos that I had to watch before the appointment on Monday, so I watched those today and they were very informing. I am also required to attend a series of 6 educational classes with them, before my surgery. Those classes consist of pre-surgery nutrition, post-surgery nutrition, vitamins and supplements, and exercise. I will also have my regular psych. appointments and other appointments as needed for the surgery. The thing that really made me feel good about them though was reading the glowing reviews online. I think the choice was pretty clear at that point. I am so excited to get this all going. I start a three-month supervised diet on Friday, so when I think about it, there is a lot to do in those three months. Time is going to fly by!

I had my revision surgery (band to sleeve) on 8/11/2015. It took about 6 weeks before the large incision stopped hurting. A couple of my incisions are a little tender if I press on them, but at this point, they don't hurt. My surgeon sent me home with something called On-Q, which is a local anesthetic pain pump. This thing was GREAT! It kept my abdomen numb for the first several days. I was discharge on Friday. On Sunday, it was time to remove it. Some may be a bit squeamish about it, but it was very simple. I just had to pull the two catheters out and put a Band-Aid on the incision. Even after the removal of On-Q, I stayed numb for about 2 more days. Sorry for the tangent! Best wishes to you on your journey!

Brandy - I don't feel food going through my band. My 10cc band was completely filled and then my doctor put in an extra .2 (for pressure he said). I was fine for about 6 weeks ... it was great because I finally felt the restriction that everyone was talking about .... then, I don't know why, but all of a sudden I couldn't keep any food down and had to have an unfill - my doctor took out 1.2 ccs and I gained back 5 pounds in two months. Yesterday he put a little fill back and I'm hoping the same thing doesn't happen again. You're probably already doing this, but for the tightness in your throat, maybe you have to eat a lot less at each sitting, but eat more often to make sure you get enough nutrition. My doctor told me that if you eat too much volume, it sits in your esophagus. Don't know if that's the case with you, but just thought I'd mention it as a possibility. I hope everything works out well for you.

This is on a different topic. I see you were banded by Dr. Kuri in 05 and then re-banded in 06. Can you please share why you needed to be re-banded? I'm scheduled for Dr. Kuri next week. Thanks

It's a touchy subject, but I was wondering if anyone else has suffered from bloating and gas issues. I'm 11 months out from surgery (8/26/09) and for the past week or so no matter what i eat i seem to have nasty smelly gas and am very bloated. Any ideas of what I can do? It is rather embarassing having this problem. Seems to come on more at night. Help!

Fish Oil, Vit E for dry skin and hair? Is it helpful?
CrazyJaney replied to CrazyJaney's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
If I'm vain about anything, it's my hair. It's thick and I can stand to lose a little. But the lackluster/dryness of it is worrisome. I've been taking Biotin 5000 since before surgery. I'm starting to shed at 9 weeks. But, my nails are the strongest they've ever been. It definitly had a good effect on my nails. I've been through the shedding before with both my pregnancies. It comes back and I have plenty to spare but I'm just hoping it's not more severe. It's just "frizzy" and dry. It definitly wasn't dry after pregnancy. And my skin has never been dry. I'll look for the oil. My skin is soooo dry, especially in the looser areas. -
No, it's not mine but one of my good friends rang me last week to say she is getting married in June. Boy, what an incentive to lose as much as I can between now and then. So far I haven't done any exercise apart from work (I'm on my feet all day walking around). I went and ordered my treadmill yesterday and gets delivered Tuesday. I think I'll handcuff myself to it like the woman on A Current Affair. That'll be interesting to watch tonight. Also I'm starting back at Curves next week. Now my health is pretty much under control I can start going again - 4 operations in 5 months has kept me from doing much of anything. So, it'll be the big countdown to the big day and be interesting to see what happens between now and then. I'll let you all know what happens in the next 7 weeks with the exercise thing.

Well it's more than a week later but here I am to say that I've actually lost 1.5 lbs... not much by some people's standards but I'm very happy because I'm finally losing weight again. :blushing:

I had a question about sagging skin I'm 21 and 225 pounds and I'm having gastric sleeve in a little over a week and I wanted to know everyone's experience with their skin and if it started to sag or not or not . I was told that my skin probably wouldn't because I'm young and with weight training it should be find . ( mostly concerned with my arms )

Haven't eaten in three weeks
Lizzy Fu replied to Lizzy Fu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much! I think you're right, it is my body, and I am doing this to get healthy! I don't know if it's that healthy to go 3 weeks with 1 grams of protein each day. I think I'm going to start drinking my shakes at least. You know, we trust our doctors. I just assume that she's telling me not to eat or a reason, you know. I assumed that having the shakes would somehow compromise my surgery, but it hasn't hurt anyone else. to have protein shakes. I'm so confused about her reasoning behind it. -
I started dieting about 3 weeks before surgery and I decided to keep it simple. I did 3 things every day: 1. Cut out the booze. 2. Eat off a side plate. 3. Replace 1 meal a day with a protein drink. It got me used to life post-op and I lost about 20lbs.
