  1. Am 35 and the heaviest I have ever been at 190 lbs. I hate the feeling of my fat rolls(as when in my bras and sitting it hurts/discomfort). About 8 years ago I was fit and a size 2 and even then only wore comfy clothes. I am doing this surgery for several reasons: 1. Feel comfortable in clothes 2. Not having to buy new clothes all the time as I can't squeeze into my current 3. My weight is contributing to my back pain. 4. Feel confident again (I've never been vain and shy away from attention even when I was a size 2, but dislike the way some people treat me compared to when I was small). My weight is a hard thing for me as I'm a very successful person with business/home etc except In regards being in control of my body. I've tried Medications that definately help weight loss but I couldn't function in my business life so I had to discontinue. Well I can't wait as my surgery is August 2012 in Puerto Vallarta. Can't wait for the new me.

    My Story

I didn't reply because for some reason, I didn't see it until now. It's true, your starting weight is not much higher than a goal weight that I would see as acceptable! That said, if a person starts at a size 2, then 190 pounds would feel very horrible. It's like me starting at a 14 and getting up to a 30. It's all relative. I could see why you would want this surgery, and I hope it gets you back down to where you feel healthy and happy!
  3. Hi, I had surgery in Toronto 3 years ago. The fill Doctor I was seeing in Winnipeg has since joined the army! Luckily I have not had a fill for almost 2 yrs and have maintained my weight loss until recently. Before I gain any more weight ....I am up 6-8 lbs and really am feeling it! Any way, I need a fill and Winnipeg is closer to me than Toronto....anyone have fills in Winnipeg who've had their surgery elsewhere?? Thanks !!!
  4. I am on the pre op diet. I am on 100 grams of Protein and 100 grams of carbs. I drink 4 protein shakes a day. Slim fast high protein is on my list so I drink those. At lunch I can have a lean protein, 2 veggies and a fruit. Then in between have sugar free Jello and broth. I have gained 4 pounds, is it possible? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. I haven’t had surgery yet but this all sounds wonderful to me! I wasn’t heavy until my 40s (I think I came out of the womb thinking I was) and I’m in my 60s now. Every since high school I’ve made calendars and in later decades spreadsheets figuring out how long it would take me to lose the x pounds I wanted to take off at 1.5-2 pounds a week. I NEVER succeeded. I might get the weight off in the earlier years but never that fast and never permanently. Have heart. You are making beautiful progress!
  6. If you don't like the taste of Water but want to avoid toxic sweeteners and help yourself lose weight by drinking more, I suggest the following additions to your eight-a-day: Organic cucumbers, lemons, and/or sage leaves or peppermint. You can thank me later. Lol
  7. Hey everyone Have you heard of the book "New Rules of Lifting for Women"?? I want to add in weight training into my exercise routine. Right now i'm just doing cardio really, and a few machines (i don't know how to use them, so i've had to take a lot of time to learn each one). I heard about this program through MyFitnessPal and i'm curious to know if anyone here has experience with it? I'm a bit nervous since it apparently uses free weights, but on the other hand following a program would be easier than "winging" it right? Thanks!

    gym work out

You might be able to use light wrist weights while on the tredmill, just a thought. I walk with 3pds in each hand, and 5 pds on each leg. I also have a weight belt. I used to use 5 pd hand weights, too difficult when I bring the puppy with me for power walks. Hope this helps.
  9. Just curious, my Dr. hasn't said anything about a goal weight, do they typically tell you or did you give yourself one?

    Second Thoughts...

I like you am having surgery on May 22nd. I know exactly how you feel because I weighed 278 on May 5th and today I weigh 249. I know of course that it is due to the pre op liquid diet that I have been on for almost two weeks. The thought has gone through my mind several times...." Oh, Andi, you can do this without surgery" but then reality hits me hard and I remember the numerous times that I have lost and gained back plus some.... I am going into this surgery with a positive attitude and I am fully ready for a more permanent change.......we only have a few days to go.......

    Had surgery today

I had my sleeve yesterday and feel great! I had my band removed, hernia repaired and I feel very little pain. The only issue I had was I couldn't urinate after the surgery. We kept waiting - they sent me home with a catheter that I had removed today. Also, I gained 7 lbs since yesterday. A little discouraging but it must be due to all the fluids they gave.

    I Am Starting Over...Fresh!!

Good luck to you! I went back to basics and started losing weight again. I don't do much exercise, so all your walking should be a bit help.

    Emotional eating and food addiction

I agree and disagree with what @jenn1 wrote. These reasons are DEFINITELY important variables and factors in us growing obese. But dang...thinking that food addiction/stress eating/emotional eating/fill-in-the-blank eating wasn't at least one of the variables that brought each of us to the super morbidly obese ball is removing part of our personal responsibility in why we have attendended this ball in the first place. I have a crap ton of medical/metabolic issues that contributed to my broken metabolism. But I assure you, when I was barely eating during chemo/radiation? I still lost weight. I lost weight. While having iv prednisone and super large doses of chemo every 2-3 weeks. IV steroids! But, the SECOND I started eating my normal big portions again, and began eating out of boredom, and to when I was upset, or when I was scared, or hurt, or angry, or just because it was there and looked dandy? I gained it all back. Even though I was no longer on those iv prednisone bags or chemo. Even though I was more active. Blah blah blah. Fact is I loved food. I loved to eat. I NEEDED big portions so that I felt full! I craved that full feeling cuz it meant all was right in my world. And I personally ate myself back up to 287 from 218lbs. I won't lie about that. There's no magic in that. I didn't just "magically" get to be 287 lbs or 325lbs. I did it cuz of poor personal responsibility and choice. And if I DON'T understand that, and change my wicked ways in the future, then I will be doomed to suffer the same fate and regain after this golden shot to be thin and healthy. Just sayin'.

    Emotional eating and food addiction

I'm not an emotional eater, nor do I have a food addiction I know why I'm obese: I make poor food choices, fried chicken vs. grilled chicken, stopping at the drive through vs. going home and eating a Lean Cuisine. Portion sizes are too large (compounded by the unhealthy choices) Bored eating So I do need to make changes, but I agree, I don't need to "redefine my relationship w food" I need to Make a conscience decision to eat healthy, and prioritize my long term goals (being a healthy weight) over the short term pleasure This surgery will help with portion control If I really want to snack, make sure it is a low cal choice, pickles, carrots etc

    Emotional eating and food addiction

It's not always stress/emotional eating or addictions that make you obese. People gain weight when they eat more calories than they burn through activity. This imbalance is the greatest contributor to weight gain. Other factors: poor nutrition education/misinformation Your location : Lack of access to healthy food choices Genetics/family history medical conditions medications life style and habits lack of activity/mobility issues Aggressive food marketing and availability of poor quality food. Even if you don't have the food addiction or stress/emotional eating. You still have to make changes to whatever got you to the point of having surgery. https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/adult/causes.html https://www.nichd.nih.gov/health/topics/obesity/conditioninfo/cause

    Emotional eating and food addiction

Sometimes it's just shitty genetics. If you don't believe this....look at dog breeds. There are damned few obese sight hounds in this world. Most Labradors would eat themselves to death if given unlimited food. Terriers and huskies generally (but not always) can self-regulate a free-feeding arrangement and maintain healthy weight. Try this with dachshunds, bassets, cockers, or pugs...and they'll be round little foot stools in months. Any vet will tell you that some dog breeds are much more prone to obesity, and others are almost universally fit. Sometimes it really is just the luck of the draw.
  17. I underwent RNY on 12/31/13. I started off at 219lbs. Day of surgery, weighed in at 209. Lost weight consistently for the first three months and have been at a plateau ever since. I went to my 3 month appt late (so in May) because I was embarrassed at my low amount of weight loss. I was down 40 lbs from when it all started. Doctor was pleased but I was/am frustrated. I journaled, ate appropriate number of Protein grams, liquids, exercised, and still can't lose the weight. I went in on 5/12 to be exact and I still have not lost weight. I am now considering the HCG diet, since that is also a very low calorie diet. I am so frustrated. I currently weigh 177 and I can't keep losing. The surgeon wants me to get to 131lbs. Any suggestions, assistance would be greatly apprecited. Good news is that I no longer have sleep apnea or diabetes. I know overall I have lost a good amount of weight, but I am frustrated that I do everything right and have not lost anything since March, 2014 (except the 2 lbs that fluctuate). HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hailey50_0

Anyone NOT lose weight post op

Well, one thing that will be different and should help is that you will only be taking in anywhere from 600-1,000 calories max during the weight loss phase. After that, maintenance phase will get up to 1,200-1,400 calories daily range, depending upon where you find your body begins putting weight on and is no longer losing is what will determine the magic number for you to maintain. I know, this 600-1,000 cal daily sounds impossible, and prior to WLS it would have been for me. Your smaller pouch helps restrict you, as well as fewer hunger pangs. Congratulations on your 24lb weight loss! We’re same height and that’s better than I did pre-op. You can do this!!

    Newbie here from Manchester, England

Hi Yes i am very pleased with my decision as i know i won't put the weight back on. At the moment I am hungry as i don't have my first fill until March so its my willpower at the moment which is hard. I have only lost 12lbs up to now in the 3wks, but have noticed i have lost loads of inches, which is great!!

    What is the deal?

I dont know if its a good idea but I am going in for the lap band on Tuesday the 16th and after reading a lot of your posts I have decided not to weigh myself every day and maybe just look at the scale every 2 weeks or so. That way I will surely have lost weight and it will make me feel good about myself. If I got back on the scale and saw an increase I am afraid I would really get depressed. Just Food for thought.

    Too many calories?

First of all, congratulations! 22 lbs is something to celebrate! Everyone's body responds differently, but I wouldn't think of your loss as slow. I'd say your weight loss is at the high end of normal for someone at your starting weight and in our age group, based on the reports I've read here over the last year or so. The ideas vary over how many calories are too much. Some subscribe to keeping it around 500-600 for the first few months, but others subscribe to the concept that you have to eat a bit more than that to really keep your metabolism rolling. Your best bet is to consult with your NUT as you suggested, though.

    Hi All!

My name is Mike. I am currently almost a week past my surgery. Surgery date: 3/25 I have a YouTube Vlog and have decided to actually be upfront with my viewers about what I have done and my process. It took me a year and a half to get to the point of scheduling my sleeve but I got it and am now just patiently waiting for stage 3 haha. I wasn't going to join this forum, but after reading and seeing how nice you all are, I figured why not! I am 32 years old, married, and a professional that travels and is always on the go. I did this because I want to have kids in the future and need to be at a healthy weight to chase them. I guess I just wanted to post on here to say Hi and I hope I can join in this and we can all each other together. Cheers to making the choice to do it. I miss food but love the feeling that I am never going to be heavier than I am today. Here is a link to my Vlog on YouTube. YouTube.com/BigMikeLittleWorld Check me out. I bring my viewers through my surgery day in my newest Vlog. Tomorrow I am posting an update. :-) Tty all soon! :-)

    Im in a rut!

Hi everyone! I am new to the board but am in need of some support and encouragement. I had the gastric sleeve on 4/29/13. Since then I have lost 96 lbs. however it seems as if lately I have lost my motivation. I have had trouble remembering my vitamins as well as cooking meals and eating snacks that are good for me. I've gained 2 lbs and I am scared to pieces that I am going to return to the old me. I am signing up for a gym and have really got to force myself into healthy habits. Has anyone gone through this? Have any recipe suggestions? What have you done to get yourself out of a rut? Help!

    Im in a rut!

The further out we get, the harder the new lifestyle is to maintain. That's why the sleeve is a tool, not a cure. That being said, I think you already know it's ultimately all about will power. You've come so far, accomplished so much. I know you don't want to slip back into old habits. Don't beat yourself up over the 2 lbs - keeping weight off can be a lot harder than losing it - but it's definitely time to implement changes in your routine and diet to get back down to your goals. Recipe-wise: I'm a big fan of the recipes on Skinnytaste.com, EmilyBites.com, and The World According to Eggface. I make Protein dense, tasty meals and if I want something extra, I eat salad or cut up veggies. Exercise: Good for you for joining a gym. Build yourself up slowly and mix up the cardio and strength-building routines. Challenge yourself but not to the point of injury. You CAN do this!!
