  1. I am almost a month out since my surgery. I lost almost 20 lbs the first two weeks. I only lost a pound this week. Should I be worried I’m eating too much?
  2. I am an RN and also have type 1 diabetes with an insulin pump. I have had an insulin pump for over 5 years and love having one. It is by far the best treatment plan I have utilized in treating my diabetes. I have lost over 120 pounds since getting my band last year in September. What I did to control low blood sugars was to set my temporary basal rate to hardly anything for about an hour. I checked my blood sugar sometimes 15 times per day or more if I needed to. I found my basal needs to have dropped by half and most importantly I am using a night basal rate which is much lower than before. Definitely keep some type of juice around for lows. I also had low blood pressure issues for several weeks to months post op. I found that I really could not tolerate any my blood pressure medications and they needed to be stopped altogether. I would not be discouraged by the postings you read. I have found the band to work as long as you are willing to do what it takes to make it work.

    What I miss most

So beyond bread, guess what food I miss most. You are never going to guess. Its prunes. I really want to eat a few dried prunes. I started eating them about 3 months before surgery. They kept me full (and regular) and also gave me energy. When is it ok to have prunes after sleeve surgery?
  4. Had the VSG on 10/24. Was doing fine, until today. Woke up with severe reflux. Eating yogurt didn't help. Drinking water made it worse. Spoke to surgeon's assistant, finally, and was told -- ready for this -- I'm not eating enough. First time in my life I've been told that. I've been "eating" Greek yogurt, about 4 teaspoonfuls at a time; drinking protein shakes, about two hours to get down 4 ounces; a little bit of chicken broth; and water. Anyone have any ideas what more I can try to eat at this point. I don't get to introduce food until around Thanksgiving.

    hair loss

Hi -- I am allergic to any type of seafood so of course fish oil scares me to death! I found a gummy omega 3 vitamin in my grocery store. It tastes great.

    Disappointing Weight Loss

10 pounds in six weeks! I would be ecstatic! That's 1 and half pounds a week. Keep up the good work

    So very tired

Had my follow up appt. with surgeon's NP. She could quickly see how exhausted I was. I had a temp of 100.5. She said if it went over 101.5 I was to head for the ER. We ran tests for white cell count, etc. She also noted I was impacted. I have take Benifiber and Muralax but sadly they have to been effective. So, next step was the dreaded E word. Luckily my daughter is a NP and came over last night to do the honors. That helped a bit, but she said most is still to high up so she put me on Duralax to get more movement. With all this mess I am in, it is clear I am not getting enough fluids in. Keep in mind that for every softener you take you need to compensate with MORE liquid! Today I feel a bit better but certainly not where I was a week after surgery. I am supposed to be progressing not regressing! Just don't want to end up in the hospital!

    Zumba

ALL exercise DVD's work- you just have to stick with them and do them 4-7 days a week! I don't like Zumba because I can't keep up with the dance moves...its too fast pace for me but if you love to do dance then I'm sure its for you. You just need to find your favorite one. I do Walk Away the Pounds and that's perfect for me! I haven't even had surgery yet and I've lost all kinds of weight from it...and my body has firmed and toned soo much, I get compliments from EVERYBODY and I still haven't had the band! Next week though!!!
  10. So I'm thinking about giving up on my insurance fight and just switching to self-pay. I had a slipped band over a year ago. It took 6 months to get the insurance company (Fed BCBS) to finally agree to remove the band but they denied a revision to VSG stating it wasn't medically necessary because my BMI was under 35. I submitted an appeal to the Federal Office of Personnel Management in October for what was supposed to be a 60 day appeal. They "lost" my case and had to start over. Then they closed it because they didn't understand I was asking for a revision and not some sort of random partial gastrectomy. They finally sent it out for review but it sounds like they didn't select a bariatric surgeon because the answer last week came back that it isn't medically necessary because my weight isn't over a 40 BMI. The told my attorney to wait for the report and then call and talk to the nurse but I haven't heard back yet. At this point it's been almost 7 months since I submitted the appeal. This has been going on for so long I'm almost back to my original weight. If I had it to do over again I'd have done a self-pay revision with Dr. Aceves right from the start. Heck, I'd be at my goal weight by now. I just don't have it in me to keep this up. I went ahead and requested a surgery date with Dr. Aceves and put first-class airline tickets on hold on my miles. I can't think what hoops the insurance company would have next. They just don't get that the standard of care for a revision doesn't require you to regain all your weight first. I could go forward with the surgery and then sue them after the fact but I'm not sure it's worth the mental energy after all this. I had some old Microsoft stock lying around and it's almost enough for the surgery. I'm thinking that I'll never miss the money and can just get on with my life. I don't want to self-pay up here because it's really expensive and they don't cover complications like Dr. Aceves does. I could be down there next weekend having this done and just moving on. Thoughts? I could use some additional input... Thanks! Britt
  11. Any suggestions on a jump start or way to kind of "cleanse"? I've been bad for 2 weeks and ready to get back at it! I've come too far!

    Constipated!

I use Fiber Choice. I just looked online, CVS carries it online for about $15 for 90 gummies (45 servings of 3 gram fiber) and shows out of stock locally. Similar but higher prices on Amazon BJ's wholesale online does not show Fiber Choice, but does show Vitafusion Fiber gummies of 110 servings of 5 grams fiber for $18. It does work. I don't crap literal bricks that clog the toilet anymore and I am out of hemmoroid danger. Not joking, I was closing the toilet with my bricks. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I completed my last diet visit today those 6 moths flew by now the wait begins they said 3 to 15 business days
  14. Hi Brielle! Big big hugs Listen, the first month or so, your body is adjusting to its new tummy -- it's still healing, you might still be swollen. And, a lot of people (including me) have had stalls around the 3rd week or so. Not a biggie. Stalls happen -- it's our body's way of adjusting to the fast weight loss -- most human beings lose weight in kind of a stair step way. Lose, stay the same, lose, stay the same. So, that said, I don't think you had the surgery at too young an age -- I think you're just going through the normal process that most of us have gone through. Keep on doing the good work with the food -- that's the most important thing -- we all need to change our approach to food and exercise -- if we can do that, then we WILL definitely lose the weight The sleeve is just a tool that makes it easier to do that Hang in there!! I'm rooting for you!! I KNOW you'll make it!

    hungry?

Today I'm 4 weeks post-op. Still no Protein drinks. But I'm eating food... I can basically eat anything except breads... although I've noticed that I get bad reflux with Hamburg meat. So I try to stay away from that
  16. I don't feel hungry. But I do feel weak. Im working on getting in my Protein and fluids. I'm doing okay with the liquid diet, Im just tired of it already and have never liked shakes and smoothies,... so I sometimes just don't have them. I freee them into pops though and I can have them that way. It's a battle any way you slice it, as we all know. My doctor was never specific on any of this, but it is really bothering me. im supposed to sip all day between meals, but if I can only hold a few oz, how is that okay? also, when do I stop eating? I can eat about 4 oz before I really just dont want any more. i am not full sick, or sick at all, i just cant bare to take another bite. is that mental? is that my body telling me im full without a physical sign but a mental one? there are no signs that i am full, but at about 4 oz, i just shut off i guess? head hunger is hard. i had a few bites of cooked ricotta cheese and sauce from the lasagna i made today. (i'm on fll liquids and doc okayed easing into soft foods, so technically not a "cheat" but i feel guilty) it was yummy, but i feel guilty. when am i supposed to eat? i wasnt given a meal plan. i dont want to eat a "meal" because i want something to do. i need a schedule but i dont know what is appropriate. the nutritionist didnt give me a post op example for the 600 calorie diet, only the 1 year post op diet. for example today i ate 2 oz of a Protein shake, then three hours later, 4 oz of yogurt, then two hours later, 2 oz of sauce, then three hours later 3 oz of Soup. it was about 250 calories. obviously that is not 600-800 a day. am i supposed to eat more?
  17. Im a week out from surgery, starving, anxious and terrified. And to top it off, the man Im supposed to marry is talking to his exgirlfriend and is completely shutting me out. Im so confused. Im so heartbroken and alone... Idk what to do.
  18. So, I've just been cleared to go back to Zumba. I'm 2 weeks post op. My Dr told me to push it as hard as I can because the first 3 months will be the majority loss, next 3 months the weight stops falling off, but still good weight loss. I should be near or at my goal by the end of the first 6 months. However, I'm tired after just going for a walk for 30 minutes. Any advice on getting that energy again? I'm meeting my protein and fluid goals everyday.
  19. Hi Everyone - I'm having trouble with the order in which I'm supposed to eat my foods. I'm four weeks post-op and am eating 3 regular meals now, with no problems. Even bread (uh-oh) is going down fine with no sticking. My dietician says my meals must be eaten in the following sequence, to ensure I stay full: 1. Protein 2. veggies 3. fruit 4. bread products (if necessary, they'd prefer you limit this) So, does that mean a sandwich is permanently off-limits? For instance, today I was in an airport and ordered the only thing that seemed diet-friendly: a grilled chicken snack wrap at McD's. I removed the chicken and ate that separately, then had some fruit, and then picked at the tortilla (which was by that point cold and not so tasty). All I really wanted to do was take a bite out of the snack-wrap, chicken & tortilla together! I hate this "dividing up" of the food into categories!! Does anyone else struggle with this? I should add my first fill isn't for a couple of weeks, and I have no restriction yet. Maybe that's the issue.... Thanks for any advice!

    What I miss most

Haha, you are the only person I have heard who says they miss prunes. I tried those little prunes that come individually packaged in the little plastic jar and I gotta say, yuck! My mom loves them though so maybe it's just an acquired taste. You can have them again as soon as you are back on regular foods. A few more weeks and it's prunes for you! I won't ask you to save me any.

    I am banded!

Thanks for asking! I would love to hear from you as well. I am loving this band. I love my doctor but I wish he wanted to go a little faster. I started with about 3 ccs and he added .5 ccs with my fill on 11/4/08 and told me that with the weight I had already lost he didn't want to do another fill until January. I am feeling very little restriction and losing very little weight; maybe I am just discouraged because this week is PMS and I always have lots of water weight gain. On a brighter note, I have lost about 30 pounds and when I exercise, I am still losing. I am so glad I did this! I am never going back only down! I have not really had any problems. I have had a couple of experiences with "nothing" going down but when it happens, I can tell you exactly what I did wrong. My hair and nails are not in good shape but I think it is just because I need to work harder at getting protiens and eat less carbs. I am eating prunes or taking fiber every day. I started a challenge for New Year's. I really want to weigh 225 by New Year's. If you look under "August 08 Bandsters", you can see that. Lots of people of joined me in this challenge with their own goals of course. I have got to be serious about what I eat from now until December if I am going to do this but I really would like to. Rachelle
  22. This is what I went through last week and I went back and they took only a small amount out and it made all the difference in the world. I'm not losing 8 pounds a week like I did the week before when it was too tight but I am still losing and I feel so much better. I'd go back and have the Dr.'s take a look. I know it's scary that you may not still lose but if they take some out, they can always put a little in at a time to get you to the proper 'sweet spot'.

    Puree suggestions

I'm hoping the chili and soups do it for me. I'm a bit worried about it. Right now, it's a consistency thing. A full bodied soup full of veggies and meat, I love, but something like cream of broccoli, or broth, I have a hard to stomaching. I'm hoping things like chicken salad in a food processor work for me, but I'm not too excited about going through these two weeks before I get to soft foods.
  24. I bought a hawaiian shave ice maker at Target for $25. I also got 3 bottles of assorted sugar free flavorings. Omg. So good. For those of us who are still on clears or full liquid this is a Godsend. I am in heaven and my kid loves it too!
  25. I'm 6 weeks post op. I get very dizzy & light headed when I stand up. Just started a week ago. Anyone else experience anything similar ? I have an appt to see my primary tomorrow but this forum has such a wealth of answers I had to ask.
