  1. I’m a finance director. I had surgery on 10/10/18 and I go back to work this Thursday. That will be 4 weeks off. I could have gone back sooner but my surgeon recommended 4 weeks and my employer is paying me so I followed my doctor’s advice. I am looking forward to going back to work but I’m worried about being tired!
  2. Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't responded. Just an update...I went back to my therapist on 10/30/18 and we're going to start sessions again. I used to see him pre-surgery and he specializes in eating disorders and OCD. I'm hopeful and will keep you posted. Thank you so much for all the feedback

    October 2018 Sleevers

I had my surgery 10/15 so I will be on soft foods for Thanksgiving. I'm going to my aunt's house and I told her about my surgery because she's nice and non judgemental. I may eat a yogurt, whatever, I don't really care what I eat, I just want to see her. I'm having a weird experience today. This is the start of my week 4 and I feel very cold and weak. Like maybe I am in ketosis or need more calories? I'm having some Isopure water now.

So yesterday I tried a fat free sugar free vanilla pudding and in a matter of 10 minutes I had the worst BM ever! I was glad because I hadn't had a BM for 7 days but till this morning I still had bad diarrhea and am wondering if any of you had the same issue with puddings or jello.

I too was sleeved on 10/30 and went to bed last night at the sounds of my stomach hahaha. I had a protein shake this morning and now I am feeling hungry. I think the sounds should stop once we reach the puree or solid food stage where we can eat more.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Myhorseisfattoo- My bestie is going thru Hershey Medical Center. Is that the same as PS Health? My mom has her bypass at HMC in 1987/88 era. Still doing wonderfully! Should have listened to her first go-around and just had the bypass. Doc said 10 years ago that I didn’t qualify for bypass. Best of luck and keep in touch!!

    November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

It's 14 day total I am on day 10. I think scheduling broth for lunch and dinner helped. Plus I bought protein water and I could have up to 5 protein shakes a day. Dr said to get lower protein ones to make easier cuz you could have more vs 30g ones and limit you to 3 e day. I also am using a caramel protein shake as creamer for decaf. Trying to keep days as normal as possible. SW 306.6 CW 284.8 GW 135

FlyAwayFree I had my surgery on 10/29 as well. I was on an emotional rollercoaster for the past 2 days. I got out the hospital on the 31st. I was fine but I couldn't get the 64 fl ozs of liquid in. I felt like a failure. I thought I was getting dehydrated and I was going to need to go back to the hospital. I didn't want to tell anyone how I was feeling because I didn't want them to look at me as a failure as well. So yesterday I had a talk with myself that I know I got this and I know I can do it. After my last drink of water before bed last night i drank 81.5 fl ozs of water......yay. Hopefully the talk with myself fixed me. And hopefully my emotions are back in check. Did you get nausea medications? I wasn't taking mine but I did yesterday. No nausea now. It's so hard for me to drink just water. I made myself drink 1.5 bottles because my urine was getting so dark. This group is such a life saver. I love it. So don't ever feel alone just bring it to the group. We can all help each other. You got this FlyAwayFree. They took my drain out the day of discharge on 10/29. I was told not to put ointments on it. They said to just let it dry out. I did wash and pat dry. I was told I didn't have to cover it back up after I took their bandages off. My drain incision is completely closed with a scab now and its only been a few days Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Hey guys! I'm 10 days post-op and am now on the full liquids stage. I've been having the shakes, clear soups and blending some of the chunkier soups I have ( chicken, pumpkin and chowder) but I was wondering if any of you tried silken-tofu at this stage? Is it okay to have it in miso soup? Unblended? I mean it breaks down pretty easily as it's super soft but was wondering if this is okay. I've heard people blend it in shakes for some extra protein too but was wondering how it reacts to your new sleeves both blended and unblended? Thank you!

With 28 pages, hard to read them all or remember what I’ve read. Do I have a November 19 surgery twin on topic?

    December 2018 Sleevers!

December 3rd, 2018!! So excited. I had a lapband 10 years ago and lost over 100lbs. Sadly it slipped severely, HAD to be removed 2+ years ago. I’m back to 300 lbs now and so ready for my sleeve!!!

    Food funerals?

Oooh I see you have had your surgery now, the day after mine! I did the same thing with my food lol. How I controlled it (and the money I was flinging at food), was to drink a shake for breakfast and lunch, then whatever I wanted for dinner. Surprisingly, it worked. I didn't gain weight, didn't lose either lol, and it made the liquid diet sooo much easier to stick to! I lost 24 pounds in 10 days lol. I won't ever regret those things I ate... it was sooo good!

I had my surgery 10/17 and just made my first meal. I’m happy my stomach was pleased. 😊 Baked Tilapia with lime juice. I risked it with some Cajun spices- but not too spicy! (This is enough for three meals. I ate 1/3)

    November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

Just got my date for Nov 19; it’s starting to get real now. Ordered protein water from amazon. Stocked up on broth and jello. Ultrasound of the gall bladder and upper endoscopy and pre/op this week. Start diet next. Yeah!
  19. Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible that insurance could decide not to cover gastric bipass surgery if BMI falls below 40 on the day of surgery? I'm approved for Gastric Bypass and my surgery is scheduled for December 3rd but I'm worried about loosing weight before my surgery. I'm 5'4''; current weight is 240; BMI 41.2, no comorbidities. Without any comorbidities, my insurance only approves the procedure if BMI is 40 or over (which I believe is typical for most insurance). I'm worried about losing weight during the 2-week pre-op liquid diet, because I've read that some people will lose 10-15 lbs as a result. If I lose 10-15 lbs during the pre-op liquid diet, that will put my weight at 225-230lbs and BMI at 38.6 - 39.5. Is there a risk that the insurance will decide not to cover the surgery if my BMI is below 40 on the day of surgery? I have an appointment in 2 weeks to see my surgeon again and will likely ask him about that, but wanted to know if anyone has any experience with that?

    Stalled since week 2

I had lost 26 lbs by day 10 and my surgeon said that my percentage then is what we expects out of 6 week PO patients. Day 11 I started just losing .2lbs a day and now I’m at a complete stall. With the high, quick loss I’m expecting this plateaue to last a bit.
  21. I’m 3 1/2 weeks out from sleeve surgery (10/10/18). My nutritionist and diet allow chicken salad with lite mayo and it allows avocado too. Other than the bread I don’t see what’s wrong with what you ate (depending on your nutritionist’s recommendation). I’m glad it went down well! I have tried chicken but it didn’t agree with me. I’ll try again in a few weeks.

Sorry you feel that way! Don't feel alone we are here for you, with you! You can pm me anytime!!! I was sleeved 10/23 so we aren't too far apart. The nausea is absolutely the worst; worse than any pain, imho. I had it super bad as well. For me I wasn't able to start vitamins until the soup stage at 2 weeks. Even this week I have had occasional nausea and had to take a pill for it. The soup was such a relief from the gross sickly sweet protein shake,..BLAH!!! I am looking forward to my soup time, lol. Hang in there things will get better everyday. Hugs to you.
  24. I woke up in recovery in severe pain. I kept calling for a nurse and after what seemed like forever they gave me something. I woke up when I got to my room and i got into my bed myself. I was pretty out of it. My cath hurt so they took it out that night and I got to the bathroom with help. I was in a lot of pain that night and kept hitting my pain pump but it didn’t help. I thought morphine would have been better. The day after I woke up and felt much better. Did my swallow study and started with water. Started walking that day. I came home on 10/31 and I feel like my pain hasn’t improved. I do a lot of walking and wonder if I’m doing too much.

Sleeve 10/29. Lunch today - 4 oz TJ's tomato/feta soup with 4 oz water. Put in a blender, then strained through a sieve and heated up. Yum! Unfortunately, the first time I tried this, I tried to add a little protein powder and it clumped. Anyone know how to incorporate protein powder into soup without it becoming a gross clumpy mess? Question - I'm walking a couple times a day. I was measuring by the laps around my row of townhomes. I've now put on my fitbit, but not sure if I should set step goals or what they should be. How is everyone setting their walking goals after surgery (I'm not yet a week out). Thanks!
